கேன உபனிஷத்³ - த்ருதீய: க²ண்ட:³ ப்³ரஹ்ம ஹ தே³வேப்⁴யோ விஜிக்³யே தஸ்ய ஹ ப்³ரஹ்மணோ விஜயே தே³வா அமஹீயந்த ॥ 1॥ It is said that Brahman once helped the gods by vanquishing the demons. The gods thought that they had won the victory themselves, and the credit was theirs. த ஐக்ஷந்தாஸ்மாகமேவாயம் விஜயோஸ்மாகமேவாயம் மஹிமேதி । தத்³தை⁴ஷாம் விஜஜ்ஞௌ தேப்⁴யோ ஹ ப்ராது³ர்ப³பூ⁴வ தன்ன வ்யஜானத கிமித³ம் யக்ஷமிதி ॥ 2॥ Brahman knew their vain thoughts and appeared before them. தேக்³னிமப்³ருவஞ்ஜாதவேத³ ஏதத்³விஜானீஹி கிமித³ம் யக்ஷமிதி ததே²தி ॥ 3॥ The gods asked Agni to find out who the adorabale Spirit was, and Agni agreed. தத³ப்⁴யத்³ரவத்தமப்⁴யவத³த்கோஸீத்யக்³னிர்வா அஹமஸ்மீத்யப்³ரவீஜ்ஜாதவேதா³ வா அஹமஸ்மீதி ॥ 4॥ Agni went to the Spirit, who asked him who he was. Agni replied, "I am Agni, the All-Knowing from birth" தஸ்மின்ஸ்த்வயி கிம் வீர்யமித்யபீதꣳ³ ஸர்வம் த³ஹேயம் யதி³த³ம் ப்ருதி²வ்யாமிதி ॥ 5॥ The Spirit asked Agni what power he possessed. Agni said he could burn up whatever there was on earth. தஸ்மை த்ருணம் நித³தா⁴வேதத்³த³ஹேதி । தது³பப்ரேயாய ஸர்வஜவேன தன்ன ஶஶாக த³க்³து⁴ம் ஸ தத ஏவ நிவவ்ருதே நைதத³ஶகம் விஜ்ஞாதும் யதே³தத்³யக்ஷமிதி ॥ 6॥ The Spirit placed a straw before him and said "Burn it". Agni strived with all his might but failed. He returned to the Gods and said he could not find out who that adorable Spirit was. அத² வாயுமப்³ருவன்வாயவேதத்³விஜானீஹி கிமேதத்³யக்ஷமிதி ததே²தி ॥ 7॥ Then the gods said to Vayu, "O Vayu, find out who this adorable Spirit is" . Vayu agreed. தத³ப்⁴யத்³ரவத்தமப்⁴யவத³த்கோஸீதி வாயுர்வா அஹமஸ்மீத்யப்³ரவீன்மாதரிஶ்வா வா அஹமஸ்மீதி ॥ 8॥ Vayu went before the Spirit who asked him who he was. Vayu replied that he was Vayu, the king of the air. தஸ்மின்ஸ்த்வயி கிம் வீர்யமித்யபீத³ம் ஸர்வமாத³தீ³ய யதி³த³ம் ப்ருதி²வ்யாமிதி ॥ 9॥ The Spirit asked what power he possessed, and Vayu replied that he could blow away anything on earth. தஸ்மை த்ருணம் நித³தா⁴வேததா³த³த்ஸ்வேதி தது³பப்ரேயாய ஸர்வஜவேன தன்ன ஶஶாகாதா³தும் ஸ தத ஏவ நிவவ்ருதே நைதத³ஶகம் விஜ்ஞாதும் யதே³தத்³யக்ஷமிதி ॥ 1௦॥ The Spirit placed a straw before Vayu and asked him to blow it away. Vayu tried but failed. He returned to the gods and said he could not find out who the adorable Spirit was. அதே²ந்த்³ரமப்³ருவன்மக⁴வன்னேதத்³விஜானீஹி கிமேதத்³யக்ஷமிதி ததே²தி தத³ப்⁴யத்³ரவத்தஸ்மாத்திரோத³தே⁴ ॥ 11॥ Then the gods said to Indra, the chief of the gods, "O Meghavan, find out who this adorable Spirit is". Indra agreed and went to see the Spirit. But the Spirit disappeared from view. ஸ தஸ்மின்னேவாகாஶே ஸ்த்ரியமாஜகா³ம ப³ஹுஶோப⁴மானாமுமாம் ஹைமவதீம் தாக்³ம்ஹோவாச கிமேதத்³யக்ஷமிதி ॥ 12॥ At that spot, he found Uma, the beautiful daughter of the Mountain Himavat. He asked her "Who was this adorable Spirit?" ॥ இதி கேனோபனிஷதி³ த்ருதீய: க²ண்ட:³ ॥ Thus ends the third part of கேனோபனிஷத்³.
