Kena Upanishad - Part 2

yadi manyasē suvēdēti daharamēvāpi
nūnaṃ tvaṃ vēttha brahmaṇō rūpam ।
yadasya tvaṃ yadasya dēvēṣvatha nu
mīmāmsyamēva tē manyē viditam ॥ 1॥

Teacher: If you think, "I have known Brahman well enough", then you know little, for the form of Brahman you see as conditioned in living beings and deities is little. Therefore, you should enquire further about Brahman.

Disciple (after reflecting further and realizing Brahman): I think I have known Brahman.

nāhaṃ manyē suvēdēti nō na vēdēti vēda cha ।
yō nastadvēda tadvēda nō na vēdēti vēda cha ॥ 2॥

I do not think I know well. Yet I do not think I do not know. He who comprehends It both as Known and Unknown, knows It.

yasyāmataṃ tasya mataṃ mataṃ yasya na vēda saḥ ।
avijñātaṃ vijānatāṃ vijñātamavijānatām ॥ 3॥

Teacher: He who understands It does not conceive It. And he does not understand It, who conceives It. To the wise it is unknown and to the ignorant it is known.

pratibōdhaviditaṃ matamamṛtatvaṃ hi vindatē ।
ātmanā vindatē vīryaṃ vidyayā vindatē'mṛtam ॥ 4॥

He who understands it by intuition, through every mental state, obtains strength from the Atman, and through knowledge, he attains immortality.

iha chēdavēdīdatha satyamasti
na chēdihāvēdīnmahatī vinaṣṭiḥ ।
bhūtēṣu bhūtēṣu vichitya dhīrāḥ
prētyāsmāllōkādamṛtā bhavanti ॥ 5॥

He who has realized It here in this world, is liberated here itself . He who has not realized suffers a great loss. Seeing the Atman in every being, the wise one rises above a life bound by the senses and attains immortality.

॥ iti kēnōpaniṣadi dvitīyaḥ khaṇḍaḥ ॥

Thus ends the second part of kēnōpaniṣad.
