𑌚𑌾𑌣𑌕𑍍𑌯 𑌨𑍀𑌤𑌿 - 𑌦𑌶𑌮𑍋𑌽𑌧𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌯𑌃

𑌧𑌨𑌹𑍀𑌨𑍋 𑌨 𑌹𑍀𑌨𑌶𑍍𑌚 𑌧𑌨𑌿𑌕𑌃 𑌸 𑌸𑍁𑌨𑌿𑌶𑍍𑌚𑌯𑌃 ।
𑌵𑌿𑌦𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌰𑌤𑍍𑌨𑍇𑌨 𑌹𑍀𑌨𑍋 𑌯𑌃 𑌸 𑌹𑍀𑌨𑌃 𑌸𑌰𑍍𑌵𑌵𑌸𑍍𑌤𑍁𑌷𑍁 ॥ 01 ॥

One destitute of wealth is not destitute, he is indeed rich (if he is learned); but the man devoid of learning is destitute in every way.

𑌦𑍃𑌷𑍍𑌟𑌿𑌪𑍂𑌤𑌂 𑌨𑍍𑌯𑌸𑍇𑌤𑍍𑌪𑌾𑌦𑌂 𑌵𑌸𑍍𑌤𑍍𑌰𑌪𑍂𑌤𑌂 𑌪𑌿𑌬𑍇𑌜𑍍𑌜𑌲𑌮𑍍 ।
𑌶𑌾𑌸𑍍𑌤𑍍𑌰𑌪𑍂𑌤𑌂 𑌵𑌦𑍇𑌦𑍍𑌵𑌾𑌕𑍍𑌯𑌃 𑌮𑌨𑌃𑌪𑍂𑌤𑌂 𑌸𑌮𑌾𑌚𑌰𑍇𑌤𑍍 ॥ 02 ॥

We should carefully scrutinise that place upon which we step (having it ascertained to be free from filth and living creatures like insects, etc.); we should drink water which has been filtered (through a clean cloth); we should speak only those words which have the sanction of the satras; and do that act which we have carefully considered.

𑌸𑍁𑌖𑌾𑌰𑍍𑌥𑍀 𑌚𑍇𑌤𑍍𑌤𑍍𑌯𑌜𑍇𑌦𑍍𑌵𑌿𑌦𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌂 𑌵𑌿𑌦𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌰𑍍𑌥𑍀 𑌚𑍇𑌤𑍍𑌤𑍍𑌯𑌜𑍇𑌤𑍍𑌸𑍁𑌖𑌮𑍍 ।
𑌸𑍁𑌖𑌾𑌰𑍍𑌥𑌿𑌨𑌃 𑌕𑍁𑌤𑍋 𑌵𑌿𑌦𑍍𑌯𑌾 𑌸𑍁𑌖𑌂 𑌵𑌿𑌦𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌰𑍍𑌥𑌿𑌨𑌃 𑌕𑍁𑌤𑌃 ॥ 03 ॥

He who desires sense gratification must give up all thoughts of acquiring knowledge; and he who seeks knowledge must not hope for sense gratification. How can he who seeks sense gratification acquire knowledge, and he who possesses knowledge enjoy mundane sense pleasure?

𑌕𑌵𑌯𑌃 𑌕𑌿𑌂 𑌨 𑌪𑌶𑍍𑌯𑌂𑌤𑌿 𑌕𑌿𑌂 𑌨 𑌭𑌕𑍍𑌷𑌂𑌤𑌿 𑌵𑌾𑌯𑌸𑌾𑌃 ।
𑌮𑌦𑍍𑌯𑌪𑌾𑌃 𑌕𑌿𑌂 𑌨 𑌜𑌲𑍍𑌪𑌂𑌤𑌿 𑌕𑌿𑌂 𑌨 𑌕𑍁𑌰𑍍𑌵𑌂𑌤𑌿 𑌯𑍋𑌷𑌿𑌤𑌃 ॥ 04 ॥

What is it that escapes the observation of poets? What is that act women are incapable of doing? What will drunken people not prate? What will not a crow eat?

𑌰𑌂𑌕𑌂 𑌕𑌰𑍋𑌤𑌿 𑌰𑌾𑌜𑌾𑌨𑌂 𑌰𑌾𑌜𑌾𑌨𑌂 𑌰𑌂𑌕𑌮𑍇𑌵 𑌚 ।
𑌧𑌨𑌿𑌨𑌂 𑌨𑌿𑌰𑍍𑌧𑌨𑌂 𑌚𑍈𑌵 𑌨𑌿𑌰𑍍𑌧𑌨𑌂 𑌧𑌨𑌿𑌨𑌂 𑌵𑌿𑌧𑌿𑌃 ॥ 05 ॥

Fate makes a beggar a king and a king a beggar. He makes a rich man poor and a poor man rich.

𑌲𑍁𑌬𑍍𑌧𑌾𑌨𑌾𑌂 𑌯𑌾𑌚𑌕𑌃 𑌶𑌤𑍍𑌰𑍁𑌰𑍍𑌮𑍂𑌰𑍍𑌖𑌾𑌨𑌾𑌂 𑌬𑍋𑌧𑌕𑍋 𑌰𑌿𑌪𑍁𑌃 ।
𑌜𑌾𑌰𑌸𑍍𑌤𑍍𑌰𑍀𑌣𑌾𑌂 𑌪𑌤𑌿𑌃 𑌶𑌤𑍍𑌰𑍁𑌶𑍍𑌚𑍌𑌰𑌾𑌣𑌾𑌂 𑌚𑌂𑌦𑍍𑌰𑌮𑌾 𑌰𑌿𑌪𑍁𑌃 ॥ 06 ॥

The beggar is a miser's enemy; the wise counsellor is the fool's enemy; her husband is an adulterous wife's enemy; and the moon is the enemy of the thief.

𑌯𑍇𑌷𑌾𑌂 𑌨 𑌵𑌿𑌦𑍍𑌯𑌾 𑌨 𑌤𑌪𑍋 𑌨 𑌦𑌾𑌨𑌂
𑌜𑍍𑌞𑌾𑌨𑌂 𑌨 𑌶𑍀𑌲𑌾𑌂 𑌨 𑌗𑍁𑌣𑍋 𑌨 𑌧𑌰𑍍𑌮𑌃 ।
𑌤𑍇 𑌮𑌰𑍍𑌤𑍍𑌯𑌲𑍋𑌕𑍇 𑌭𑍁𑌵𑌿 𑌭𑌾𑌰𑌭𑍂𑌤𑌾
𑌮𑌨𑍁𑌷𑍍𑌯𑌰𑍂𑌪𑍇𑌣 𑌮𑍃𑌗𑌾𑌶𑍍𑌚𑌰𑌂𑌤𑌿 ॥ 0𑍭 ॥

Those who are destitute of learning, penance, knowledge, good disposition, virtue and benevolence are brutes wandering the earth in the form of men. They are burdensome to the earth.

𑌅𑌂𑌤𑌃𑌸𑌾𑌰𑌵𑌿𑌹𑍀𑌨𑌾𑌨𑌾𑌮𑍁𑌪𑌦𑍇𑌶𑍋 𑌨 𑌜𑌾𑌯𑌤𑍇 ।
𑌮𑌲𑌯𑌾𑌚𑌲𑌸𑌂𑌸𑌰𑍍𑌗𑌾𑌨𑍍𑌨 𑌵𑍇𑌣𑍁𑌶𑍍𑌚𑌂𑌦𑌨𑌾𑌯𑌤𑍇 ॥ 0𑍮 ॥

Those that are empty-minded cannot be benefited by instruction. Bamboo does not acquire the quality of sandalwood by being associated with the Malaya Mountain.

𑌯𑌸𑍍𑌯 𑌨𑌾𑌸𑍍𑌤𑌿 𑌸𑍍𑌵𑌯𑌂 𑌪𑍍𑌰𑌜𑍍𑌞𑌾 𑌶𑌾𑌸𑍍𑌤𑍍𑌰𑌂 𑌤𑌸𑍍𑌯 𑌕𑌰𑍋𑌤𑌿 𑌕𑌿𑌮𑍍 ।
𑌲𑍋𑌚𑌨𑌾𑌭𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌂 𑌵𑌿𑌹𑍀𑌨𑌸𑍍𑌯 𑌦𑌰𑍍𑌪𑌣𑌃 𑌕𑌿𑌂 𑌕𑌰𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌯𑌤𑌿 ॥ 0𑍯 ॥

What good can the scriptures do to a man who has no sense of his own? Of what use is as mirror to a blind man?

𑌦𑍁𑌰𑍍𑌜𑌨𑌂 𑌸𑌜𑍍𑌜𑌨𑌂 𑌕𑌰𑍍𑌤𑍁𑌮𑍁𑌪𑌾𑌯𑍋 𑌨𑌹𑌿 𑌭𑍂𑌤𑌲𑍇 ।
𑌅𑌪𑌾𑌨𑌂 𑌶𑌾𑌤𑌧𑌾 𑌧𑍌𑌤𑌂 𑌨 𑌶𑍍𑌰𑍇𑌷𑍍𑌠𑌮𑌿𑌂𑌦𑍍𑌰𑌿𑌯𑌂 𑌭𑌵𑍇𑌤𑍍 ॥ 10 ॥

Nothing can reform a bad man, just as the posterious cannot become a superior part of the body though washed one hundred times.

𑌆𑌪𑍍𑌤𑌦𑍍𑌵𑍇𑌷𑌾𑌦𑍍𑌭𑌵𑍇𑌨𑍍𑌮𑍃𑌤𑍍𑌯𑍁𑌃 𑌪𑌰𑌦𑍍𑌵𑍇𑌷𑌾𑌦𑍍𑌧𑌨𑌕𑍍𑌷𑌯𑌃 ।
𑌰𑌾𑌜𑌦𑍍𑌵𑍇𑌷𑌾𑌦𑍍𑌭𑌵𑍇𑌨𑍍𑌨𑌾𑌶𑍋 𑌬𑍍𑌰𑌹𑍍𑌮𑌦𑍍𑌵𑍇𑌷𑌾𑌤𑍍𑌕𑍁𑌲𑌕𑍍𑌷𑌯𑌃 ॥ 11 ॥

By offending a kinsman, life is lost; by offending others, wealth is lost; by offending the king, everything is lost; and by offending a brahmana one's whole family is ruined.

𑌵𑌰𑌂 𑌵𑌨𑌂 𑌵𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌘𑍍𑌰𑌗𑌜𑍇𑌂𑌦𑍍𑌰𑌸𑍇𑌵𑌿𑌤𑌂
𑌦𑍍𑌰𑍁𑌮𑌾𑌲𑌯𑌂 𑌪𑌤𑍍𑌰𑌫𑌲𑌾𑌂𑌬𑍁𑌸𑍇𑌵𑌨𑌮𑍍 ।
𑌤𑍃𑌣𑍇𑌷𑍁 𑌶𑌯𑍍𑌯𑌾 𑌶𑌤𑌜𑍀𑌰𑍍𑌣𑌵𑌲𑍍𑌕𑌲𑌂
𑌨 𑌬𑌂𑌧𑍁𑌮𑌧𑍍𑌯𑍇 𑌧𑌨𑌹𑍀𑌨𑌜𑍀𑌵𑌨𑌮𑍍 ॥ 12 ॥

It is better to live under a tree in a jungle inhabited by tigers and elephants, to maintain oneself in such a place with ripe fruits and spring water, to lie down on grass and to wear the ragged barks of trees than to live amongst one's relations when reduced to poverty.

𑌵𑌿𑌪𑍍𑌰𑍋 𑌵𑍃𑌕𑍍𑌷𑌸𑍍𑌤𑌸𑍍𑌯 𑌮𑍂𑌲𑌂 𑌚 𑌸𑌂𑌧𑍍𑌯𑌾
𑌵𑍇𑌦𑌃 𑌶𑌾𑌖𑌾 𑌧𑌰𑍍𑌮𑌕𑌰𑍍𑌮𑌾𑌣𑌿 𑌪𑌤𑍍𑌰𑌮𑍍 ।
𑌤𑌸𑍍𑌮𑌾𑌨𑍍𑌮𑍂𑌲𑌂 𑌯𑌤𑍍𑌨𑌤𑍋 𑌰𑌕𑍍𑌷𑌣𑍀𑌯𑌂
𑌛𑌿𑌨𑍍𑌨𑍇 𑌮𑍂𑌲𑍇 𑌨𑍈𑌵 𑌶𑌾𑌖𑌾 𑌨 𑌪𑌤𑍍𑌰𑌮𑍍 ॥ 13 ॥

The 𑌬𑍍𑌰𑌾𑌹𑍍𑌮𑌣 is like tree; his prayers are the roots, his chanting of the Vedas are the branches, and his religious act are the leaves. Consequently effort should be made to preserve his roots for if the roots are destroyed there can be no branches or leaves.

𑌮𑌾𑌤𑌾 𑌚 𑌕𑌮𑌲𑌾 𑌦𑍇𑌵𑍀 𑌪𑌿𑌤𑌾 𑌦𑍇𑌵𑍋 𑌜𑌨𑌾𑌰𑍍𑌦𑌨𑌃 ।
𑌬𑌾𑌂𑌧𑌵𑌾 𑌵𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌣𑍁𑌭𑌕𑍍𑌤𑌾𑌶𑍍𑌚 𑌸𑍍𑌵𑌦𑍇𑌶𑍋 𑌭𑍁𑌵𑌨𑌤𑍍𑌰𑌯𑌮𑍍 ॥ 14 ॥

My mother is 𑌕𑌮𑌲𑌾 𑌦𑍇𑌵𑍀 (𑌲𑌕𑍍𑌷𑍍𑌮𑍀), my father is Lord 𑌜𑌨𑌾𑌰𑍍𑌦𑌨 (𑌵𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌣𑍁), my kinsmen are the devotees of 𑌵𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌣𑍁 and, my homeland is all the three worlds.

𑌏𑌕𑌵𑍃𑌕𑍍𑌷𑌸𑌮𑌾𑌰𑍂𑌢𑌾 𑌨𑌾𑌨𑌾𑌵𑌰𑍍𑌣𑌾 𑌵𑌿𑌹𑌂𑌗𑌮𑌾𑌃 ।
𑌪𑍍𑌰𑌭𑌾𑌤𑍇 𑌦𑌿𑌕𑍍𑌷𑍁 𑌦𑌶𑌸𑍁 𑌯𑌾𑌂𑌤𑌿 𑌕𑌾 𑌤𑌤𑍍𑌰 𑌵𑍇𑌦𑌨𑌾 ॥ 15 ॥

(Through the night) a great many kinds of birds perch(Sit and rest) on a tree but in the morning they fly in all the ten directions. Why should we lament (Expression of sorrow) for that? (Similarly, we should not grieve when we must inevitably part company from our dear ones).

𑌬𑍁𑌦𑍍𑌧𑌿𑌰𑍍𑌯𑌸𑍍𑌯 𑌬𑌲𑌂 𑌤𑌸𑍍𑌯 𑌨𑌿𑌰𑍍𑌬𑍁𑌦𑍍𑌧𑍇𑌶𑍍𑌚 𑌕𑍁𑌤𑍋 𑌬𑌲𑌮𑍍 ।
𑌵𑌨𑍇 𑌸𑌿𑌂𑌹𑍋 𑌯𑌦𑍋𑌨𑍍𑌮𑌤𑍍𑌤𑌃 𑌮𑌶𑌕𑍇𑌨 𑌨𑌿𑌪𑌾𑌤𑌿𑌤𑌃 ॥ 16 ॥

He who possesses intelligence is strong; how can the man that is unintelligent be powerful? The elephant of the forest having lost his senses by intoxication was tricked into a lake by a small rabbit. (this verse refers to a famous story from the niti-sastra called 𑌪𑌂𑌚𑌤𑌂𑌤𑍍𑌰 compiled by the pandit 𑌵𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌣𑍁𑌶𑌰𑍍𑌮).

𑌕𑌾 𑌚𑌿𑌂𑌤𑌾 𑌮𑌮 𑌜𑍀𑌵𑌨𑍇 𑌯𑌦𑌿 𑌹𑌰𑌿𑌰𑍍𑌵𑌿𑌶𑍍𑌵𑌂𑌭𑌰𑍋 𑌗𑍀𑌯𑌤𑍇
𑌨𑍋 𑌚𑍇𑌦𑌰𑍍𑌭𑌕𑌜𑍀𑌵𑌨𑌾𑌯 𑌜𑌨𑌨𑍀𑌸𑍍𑌤𑌨𑍍𑌯𑌂 𑌕𑌥𑌂 𑌨𑌿𑌰𑍍𑌮𑌮𑍇 ।
𑌇𑌤𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌲𑍋𑌚𑍍𑌯 𑌮𑍁𑌹𑍁𑌰𑍍𑌮𑍁𑌹𑍁𑌰𑍍𑌯𑌦𑍁𑌪𑌤𑍇 𑌲𑌕𑍍𑌷𑍍𑌮𑍀𑌪𑌤𑍇 𑌕𑍇𑌵𑌲𑌂
𑌤𑍍𑌵𑌤𑍍𑌪𑌾𑌦𑌾𑌂𑌬𑍁𑌜𑌸𑍇𑌵𑌨𑍇𑌨 𑌸𑌤𑌤𑌂 𑌕𑌾𑌲𑍋 𑌮𑌯𑌾 𑌨𑍀𑌯𑌤𑍇 ॥ 1𑍭 ॥

Why should I be concerned for my maintenance while absorbed in praising the glories of Lord 𑌵𑌿𑌶𑍍𑌵𑌂𑌭𑌰 (𑌵𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌣𑍁), the supporter of all. Without the grace of Lord Hari, how could milk flow from a mother's breast for a child's nourishment? Repeatedly thinking only in this way, O Lord of the Yadavas, O husband of 𑌲𑌕𑍍𑌷𑍍𑌮𑍀, all my time is spent in serving Your lotus feet.

𑌗𑍀𑌰𑍍𑌵𑌾𑌣𑌵𑌾𑌣𑍀𑌷𑍁 𑌵𑌿𑌶𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌟𑌬𑍁𑌦𑍍𑌧𑌿-
𑌸𑍍𑌤𑌥𑌾𑌪𑌿 𑌭𑌾𑌷𑌾𑌂𑌤𑌰𑌲𑍋𑌲𑍁𑌪𑍋𑌽𑌹𑌮𑍍 ।
𑌯𑌥𑌾 𑌸𑍁𑌧𑌾𑌯𑌾𑌮𑌮𑌰𑍇𑌷𑍁 𑌸𑌤𑍍𑌯𑌾𑌂
𑌸𑍍𑌵𑌰𑍍𑌗𑌾𑌂𑌗𑌨𑌾𑌨𑌾𑌮𑌧𑌰𑌾𑌸𑌵𑍇 𑌰𑍁𑌚𑌿𑌃 ॥ 1𑍮 ॥
𑌚𑌾𑌣𑌕𑍍𑌯 is referring to himself in this verse. I am extremely knowledgeable in 𑌸𑌂𑌸𑍍𑌕𑍃𑌤𑌮𑍍 language. Like the Devas who were not satisfied even with 𑌅𑌮𑍃𑌤𑌮𑍍 or nector and who still desire for the nector from the lips of 𑌅𑌪𑍍𑌸𑌰s, I still desire for other languages.

𑌅𑌨𑍍𑌨𑌾𑌦𑍍𑌦𑌶𑌗𑍁𑌣𑌂 𑌪𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌟𑌂 𑌪𑌿𑌷𑍍𑌟𑌾𑌦𑍍𑌦𑌶𑌗𑍁𑌣𑌂 𑌪𑌯𑌃 ।
𑌪𑌯𑌸𑍋𑌽𑌷𑍍𑌟𑌗𑍁𑌣𑌂 𑌮𑌾𑌂𑌸𑌾𑌂 𑌮𑌾𑌂𑌸𑌾𑌦𑍍𑌦𑌶𑌗𑍁𑌣𑌂 𑌘𑍃𑌤𑌮𑍍 ॥ 1𑍯 ॥

Flour has ten times the essence than rice. Milk has ten times the essence than flour. Meat has ten times essence than milk. Ghee has ten times the essence than meat.

𑌶𑍋𑌕𑍇𑌨 𑌰𑍋𑌗𑌾 𑌵𑌰𑍍𑌧𑌂𑌤𑍇 𑌪𑌯𑌸𑌾 𑌵𑌰𑍍𑌧𑌤𑍇 𑌤𑌨𑍁𑌃 ।
𑌘𑍃𑌤𑍇𑌨 𑌵𑌰𑍍𑌧𑌤𑍇 𑌵𑍀𑌰𑍍𑌯𑌂 𑌮𑌾𑌂𑌸𑌾𑌨𑍍𑌮𑌾𑌂𑌸𑌂 𑌪𑍍𑌰𑌵𑌰𑍍𑌧𑌤𑍇 ॥ 20 ॥

Sickness increases through worries, body becomes healthier through milk, virility and energy increases through ghee, meat becomes stronger through meat (by consuming meat, meat may become stronger, but the full body becomes healthier only through eating vegetables).
