ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಾನುವಾಚ
ಇದಂ ತು ತೇ ಗುಹ್ಯತಮಂ ಪ್ರವಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಮ್ಯನಸೂಯವೇ ।
ಜ್ಞಾನಂ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಸಹಿತಂ ಯಜ್ಜ್ಞಾತ್ವಾ ಮೋಕ್ಷ್ಯಸೇಽಶಉಭಾತ್ ॥ 1 ॥
Meaning
ಶ್ರೀ-ಭಗವಾನ್ ಉವಾಚ — the Supreme Personality of Godhead said; ಇದಂ — this; ತು — but; ತೇ — unto you; ಗುಹ್ಯ-ತಮಂ — the most confidential; ಪ್ರವಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಮಿ — I am speaking; ಅನಸೂಯವೇ — to the nonenvious; ಜ್ಞಾನಂ — knowledge; ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ — realized knowledge; ಸಹಿತಂ — with; ಯತ್ — which; ಜ್ಞಾತ್ವಾ — knowing; ಮೋಕ್ಷ್ಯಸೇ — you will be released; ಅಶುಭಾತ್ — from this miserable material existence.
Translation
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most confidential knowledge and realization, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ರಾಜವಿದ್ಯಾ ರಾಜಗುಹ್ಯಂ ಪವಿತ್ರಮಿದಮುತ್ತಮಮ್ ।
ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷಾವಗಮಂ ಧರ್ಮ್ಯಂ ಸುಸುಖಂ ಕರ್ತುಮವ್ಯಯಮ್ ॥ 2 ॥
Meaning
ರಾಜ-ವಿದ್ಯಾ — the king of education; ರಾಜ-ಗುಹ್ಯಂ — the king of confidential knowledge; ಪವಿತ್ರಂ — the purest; ಇದಂ — this; ಉತ್ತಮಂ — transcendental; ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷ — by direct experience; ಅವಗಮಂ — understood; ಧರ್ಮ್ಯಂ — the principle of religion; ಸು-ಸುಖಂ — very happy; ಕರ್ತುಂ — to execute; ಅವ್ಯಯಂ — everlasting.
Translation
This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅಶ್ರದ್ದಧಾನಾಃ ಪುರುಷಾ ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಯಾಸ್ಯ ಪರಂತಪ ।
ಅಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ ಮಾಂ ನಿವರ್ತಂತೇ ಮೃತ್ಯುಸಂಸಾರವರ್ತ್ಮನಿ ॥ 3 ॥
Meaning
ಅಶ್ರದ್ದಧಾನಾಃ — those who are faithless; ಪುರುಷಾಃ — such persons; ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಯ — toward the process of religion; ಅಸ್ಯ — this; ಪರಂ-ತಪ — O killer of the enemies; ಅಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ — without obtaining; ಮಾಂ — Me; ನಿವರ್ತಂತೇ — come back; ಮೃತ್ಯು — of death; ಸಂಸಾರ — in material existence; ವರ್ತ್ಮನಿ — on the path.
Translation
Those who are not faithful in this devotional service cannot attain Me, O conqueror of enemies. Therefore they return to the path of birth and death in this material world.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಮಯಾ ತತಮಿದಂ ಸರ್ವಂ ಜಗದವ್ಯಕ್ತಮೂರ್ತಿನಾ ।
ಮತ್ಸ್ಥಾನಿ ಸರ್ವಭೂತಾನಿ ನ ಚಾಹಂ ತೇಷ್ವವಸ್ಥಿತಃ ॥ 4 ॥
Meaning
ಮಯಾ — by Me; ತತಂ — pervaded; ಇದಂ — this; ಸರ್ವಂ — all; ಜಗತ್ — cosmic manifestation; ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತ-ಮೂರ್ತಿನಾ — by the unmanifested form; ಮತ್-ಸ್ಥಾನಿ — in Me; ಸರ್ವ-ಭೂತಾನಿ — all living entities; ನ — not; ಚ — also; ಅಹಂ — I; ತೇಷು — in them; ಅವಸ್ಥಿತಃ — situated.
Translation
By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ನ ಚ ಮತ್ಸ್ಥಾನಿ ಭೂತಾನಿ ಪಶ್ಯ ಮೇ ಯೋಗಮೈಶ್ವರಮ್ ।
ಭೂತಭೃನ್ನ ಚ ಭೂತಸ್ಥೋ ಮಮಾತ್ಮಾ ಭೂತಭಾವನಃ ॥ 5 ॥
Meaning
ನ — never; ಚ — also; ಮತ್-ಸ್ಥಾನಿ — situated in Me; ಭೂತಾನಿ — all creation; ಪಶ್ಯ — just see; ಮೇ — My; ಯೋಗಂ ಐಶ್ವರಂ — inconceivable mystic power; ಭೂತ-ಭೃತ್ — the maintainer of all living entities; ನ — never; ಚ — also; ಭೂತ-ಸ್ಥಃ — in the cosmic manifestation; ಮಮ — My; ಆತ್ಮಾ — Self; ಭೂತ-ಭಾವನಃ — the source of all manifestations.
Translation
And yet everything that is created does not rest in Me. Behold My mystic opulence! Although I am the maintainer of all living entities and although I am everywhere, I am not a part of this cosmic manifestation, for My Self is the very source of creation.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಯಥಾಕಾಶಸ್ಥಿತೋ ನಿತ್ಯಂ ವಾಯುಃ ಸರ್ವತ್ರಗೋ ಮಹಾನ್ ।
ತಥಾ ಸರ್ವಾಣಿ ಭೂತಾನಿ ಮತ್ಸ್ಥಾನೀತ್ಯುಪಧಾರಯ ॥ 6 ॥
Meaning
ಯಥಾ — just as; ಆಕಾಶ-ಸ್ಥಿತಃ — situated in the sky; ನಿತ್ಯಂ — always; ವಾಯುಃ — the wind; ಸರ್ವತ್ರ-ಗಃ — blowing everywhere; ಮಹಾನ್ — great; ತಥಾ — similarly; ಸರ್ವಾಣಿ ಭೂತಾನಿ — all created beings; ಮತ್-ಸ್ಥಾನಿ — situated in Me; ಇತಿ — thus; ಉಪಧಾರಯ — try to understand.
Translation
Understand that as the mighty wind, blowing everywhere, rests always in the sky, all created beings rest in Me.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಸರ್ವಭೂತಾನಿ ಕೌಂತೇಯ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಂ ಯಾಂತಿ ಮಾಮಿಕಾಮ್ ।
ಕಲ್ಪಕ್ಷಯೇ ಪುನಸ್ತಾನಿ ಕಲ್ಪಾದೌ ವಿಸೃಜಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ॥ 7 ॥
Meaning
ಸರ್ವ-ಭೂತಾನಿ — all created entities; ಕೌಂತೇಯ — O son of Kuntī; ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಂ — nature; ಯಾಂತಿ — enter; ಮಾಮಿಕಾಂ — My; ಕಲ್ಪ-ಕ್ಷಯೇ — at the end of the millennium; ಪುನಃ — again; ತಾನಿ — all those; ಕಲ್ಪ-ಆದೌ — in the beginning of the millennium; ವಿಸೃಜಾಮಿ — create; ಅಹಂ — I.
Translation
O son of Kuntī, at the end of the millennium all material manifestations enter into My nature, and at the beginning of another millennium, by My potency, I create them again.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಂ ಸ್ವಾಮವಷ್ಟಭ್ಯ ವಿಸೃಜಾಮಿ ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ ।
ಭೂತಗ್ರಾಮಮಿಮಂ ಕೃತ್ಸ್ನಮವಶಂ ಪ್ರಕೃತೇರ್ವಶಾತ್ ॥ 8 ॥
Meaning
ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಂ — the material nature; ಸ್ವಾಂ — of My personal Self; ಅವಷ್ಟಭ್ಯ — entering into; ವಿಸೃಜಾಮಿ — I create; ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ — again and again; ಭೂತ-ಗ್ರಾಮಂ — all the cosmic manifestations; ಇಮಂ — these; ಕೃತ್ಸ್ನಂ — in total; ಅವಶಂ — automatically; ಪ್ರಕೃತೇಃ — of the force of nature; ವಶಾತ್ — under obligation.
Translation
The whole cosmic order is under Me. Under My will it is automatically manifested again and again, and under My will it is annihilated at the end.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ನ ಚ ಮಾಂ ತಾನಿ ಕರ್ಮಾಣಿ ನಿಬಧ್ನಂತಿ ಧನಂಜಯ ।
ಉದಾಸೀನವದಾಸೀನಮಸಕ್ತಂ ತೇಷು ಕರ್ಮಸು ॥ 9 ॥
Meaning
ನ — never; ಚ — also; ಮಾಂ — Me; ತಾನಿ — all those; ಕರ್ಮಾಣಿ — activities; ನಿಬಧ್ನಂತಿ — bind; ಧನಂ-ಜಯ — O conqueror of riches; ಉದಾಸೀನ-ವತ್ — as neutral; ಆಸೀನಂ — situated; ಅಸಕ್ತಂ — without attraction; ತೇಷು — for those; ಕರ್ಮಸು — activities.
Translation
O Dhanañjaya, all this work cannot bind Me. I am ever detached from all these material activities, seated as though neutral.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಮಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೇಣ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಃ ಸೂಯತೇ ಸಚರಾಚರಮ್ ।
ಹೇತುನಾನೇನ ಕೌಂತೇಯ ಜಗದ್ವಿಪರಿವರ್ತತೇ ॥ 10 ॥
Meaning
ಮಯಾ — by Me; ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೇಣ — by superintendence; ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಃ — material nature; ಸೂಯತೇ — manifests; ಸ — both; ಚರ-ಅಚರಂ — the moving and the nonmoving; ಹೇತುನಾ — for the reason; ಅನೇನ — this; ಕೌಂತೇಯ — O son of Kuntī; ಜಗತ್ — the cosmic manifestation; ವಿಪರಿವರ್ತತೇ — is working.
Translation
This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kuntī, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅವಜಾನಂತಿ ಮಾಂ ಮೂಢಾ ಮಾನುಷೀಂ ತನುಮಾಶ್ರಿತಮ್ ।
ಪರಂ ಭಾವಮಜಾನಂತೋ ಮಮ ಭೂತಮಹೇಶ್ವರಮ್ ॥ 11 ॥
Meaning
ಅವಜಾನಂತಿ — deride; ಮಾಂ — Me; ಮೂಢಾಃ — foolish men; ಮಾನುಷೀಂ — in a human form; ತನುಂ — a body; ಆಶ್ರಿತಂ — assuming; ಪರಂ — transcendental; ಭಾವಂ — nature; ಅಜಾನಂತಃ — not knowing; ಮಮ — My; ಭೂತ — of everything that be; ಮಹಾ-ಈಶ್ವರಂ — the supreme proprietor.
Translation
Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature as the Supreme Lord of all that be.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಮೋಘಾಶಾ ಮೋಘಕರ್ಮಾಣೋ ಮೋಘಜ್ಞಾನಾ ವಿಚೇತಸಃ ।
ರಾಕ್ಷಸೀಮಾಸುರೀಂ ಚೈವ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಂ ಮೋಹಿನೀಂ ಶ್ರಿತಾಃ ॥ 12 ॥
Meaning
ಮೋಘ-ಆಶಾಃ — baffled in their hopes; ಮೋಘ-ಕರ್ಮಾಣಃ — baffled in fruitive activities; ಮೋಘ-ಜ್ಞಾನಾಃ — baffled in knowledge; ವಿಚೇತಸಃ — bewildered; ರಾಕ್ಷಸೀಂ — demonic; ಆಸುರೀಂ — atheistic; ಚ — and; ಏವ — certainly; ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಂ — nature; ಮೋಹಿನೀಂ — bewildering; ಶ್ರಿತಾಃ — taking shelter of.
Translation
Those who are thus bewildered are attracted by demonic and atheistic views. In that deluded condition, their hopes for liberation, their fruitive activities, and their culture of knowledge are all defeated.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾನಸ್ತು ಮಾಂ ಪಾರ್ಥ ದೈವೀಂ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಮಾಶ್ರಿತಾಃ ।
ಭಜಂತ್ಯನನ್ಯಮನಸೋ ಜ್ಞಾತ್ವಾ ಭೂತಾದಿಮವ್ಯಯಮ್ ॥ 13 ॥
Meaning
ಮಹಾ-ಆತ್ಮಾನಃ — the great souls; ತು — but; ಮಾಂ — unto Me; ಪಾರ್ಥ — O son of Prithā; ದೈವೀಂ — divine; ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಂ — nature; ಆಶ್ರಿತಾಃ — having taken shelter of; ಭಜಂತಿ — render service; ಅನನ್ಯ-ಮನಸಃ — without deviation of the mind; ಜ್ಞಾತ್ವಾ — knowing; ಭೂತ — of creation; ಆದಿಂ — the origin; ಅವ್ಯಯಂ — inexhaustible.
Translation
O son of Prithā, those who are not deluded, the great souls, are under the protection of the divine nature. They are fully engaged in devotional service because they know Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, original and inexhaustible.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಸತತಂ ಕೀರ್ತಯಂತೋ ಮಾಂ ಯತಂತಶ್ಚ ದೃಢವ್ರತಾಃ ।
ನಮಸ್ಯಂತಶ್ಚ ಮಾಂ ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಆ ನಿತ್ಯಯುಕ್ತಾ ಉಪಾಸತೇ ॥ 14 ॥
Meaning
ಸತತಂ — always; ಕೀರ್ತಯಂತಃ — chanting; ಮಾಂ — about Me; ಯತಂತಃ — fully endeavoring; ಚ — also; ದೃಢ-ವ್ರತಾಃ — with determination; ನಮಸ್ಯಂತಃ — offering obeisances; ಚ — and; ಮಾಂ — Me; ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಾ — in devotion; ನಿತ್ಯ-ಯುಕ್ತಾಃ — perpetually engaged; ಉಪಾಸತೇ — worship.
Translation
Always chanting My glories, endeavoring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship Me with devotion.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಜ್ಞಾನಯಜ್ಞೇನ ಚಾಪ್ಯನ್ಯೇ ಯಜಂತೋ ಮಾಮುಪಾಸತೇ ।
ಏಕತ್ವೇನ ಪೃಥಕ್ತ್ವೇನ ಬಹುಧಾ ವಿಶ್ವತೋಮುಖಮ್ ॥ 15 ॥
Meaning
ಜ್ಞಾನ-ಯಜ್ಞೇನ — by cultivation of knowledge; ಚ — also; ಅಪಿ — certainly; ಅನ್ಯೇ — others; ಯಜಂತಃ — sacrificing; ಮಾಂ — Me; ಉಪಾಸತೇ — worship; ಏಕತ್ವೇನ — in oneness; ಪೃಥಕ್ತ್ವೇನ — in duality; ಬಹುಧಾ — in diversity; ವಿಶ್ವತಃ-ಮುಖಂ — and in the universal form.
Translation
Others, who engage in sacrifice by the cultivation of knowledge, worship the Supreme Lord as the one without a second, as diverse in many, and in the universal form.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅಹಂ ಕ್ರತುರಹಂ ಯಜ್ಞಃ ಸ್ವಧಾಹಮಹಮೌಷಧಮ್ ।
ಮನ್ತ್ರೋಽಹಮಹಮೇವಾಜ್ಯಮಹಮಗ್ನಇರಹಂ ಹುತಮ್ ॥ 16 ॥
Meaning
ಅಹಂ — I; ಕ್ರತುಃ — Vedic ritual; ಅಹಂ — I; ಯಜ್ಞಃ — smriti sacrifice; ಸ್ವಧಾ — oblation; ಅಹಂ — I; ಅಹಂ — I; ಔಷಧಂ — healing herb; ಮಂತ್ರಃ — transcendental chant; ಅಹಂ — I; ಅಹಂ — I; ಏವ — certainly; ಆಜ್ಯಂ — melted butter; ಅಹಂ — I; ಅಗ್ನಿಃ — fire; ಅಹಂ — I; ಹುತಂ — offering.
Translation
But it is I who am the ritual, I the sacrifice, the offering to the ancestors, the healing herb, the transcendental chant. I am the butter and the fire and the offering.

ಪಿತಾಹಮಸ್ಯ ಜಗತೋ ಮಾತಾ ಧಾತಾ ಪಿತಾಮಹಃ ।
ವೇದ್ಯಂ ಪವಿತ್ರಂ ಓಂಕಾರ ಋಕ್ ಸಾಮ ಯಜುರೇವ ಚ ॥ 17 ॥
Meaning
ಪಿತಾ — father; ಅಹಂ — I; ಅಸ್ಯ — of this; ಜಗತಃ — universe; ಮಾತಾ — mother; ಧಾತಾ — supporter; ಪಿತಾಮಹಃ — grandfather; ವೇದ್ಯಂ — what is to be known; ಪವಿತ್ರಂ — that which purifies; ಓಂ-ಕಾರ — the syllable oM; ಋಕ್ — the rig Veda; ಸಾಮ — the Sāma Veda; ಯಜುಃ — the Yajur Veda; ಏವ — certainly; ಚ — and.
Translation
I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable oM. I am also the rig, the Sāma and the Yajur Vedas.

ಗತಿರ್ಭರ್ತಾ ಪ್ರಭುಃ ಸಾಕ್ಷೀ ನಿವಾಸಃ ಶರಣಂ ಸುಹೃತ್ ।
ಪ್ರಭವಃ ಪ್ರಲಯಃ ಸ್ಥಾನಂ ನಿಧಾನಂ ಬೀಜಮವ್ಯಯಮ್ ॥ 18 ॥
Meaning
ಗತಿಃ — goal; ಭರ್ತಾ — sustainer; ಪ್ರಭುಃ — Lord; ಸಾಕ್ಷೀ — witness; ನಿವಾಸಃ — abode; ಶರಣಂ — refuge; ಸು-ಹೃತ್ — most intimate friend; ಪ್ರಭವಃ — creation; ಪ್ರಲಯಃ — dissolution; ಸ್ಥಾನಂ — ground; ನಿಧಾನಂ — resting place; ಬೀಜಂ — seed; ಅವ್ಯಯಂ — imperishable.
Translation
I am the goal, the sustainer, the master, the witness, the abode, the refuge and the most dear friend. I am the creation and the annihilation, the basis of everything, the resting place and the eternal seed.

ತಪಾಮ್ಯಹಮಹಂ ವರ್ಷಂ ನಿಗೃಹ್ಣಾಮ್ಯುತ್ಸೃಜಾಮಿ ಚ ।
ಅಮೃತಂ ಚೈವ ಮೃತ್ಯುಶ್ಚ ಸದಸಚ್ಚಆಹಮರ್ಜುನ ॥ 19 ॥
Meaning
ತಪಾಮಿ — give heat; ಅಹಂ — I; ಅಹಂ — I; ವರ್ಷಂ — rain; ನಿಗೃಹ್ಣಾಮಿ — withhold; ಉತ್ಸೃಜಾಮಿ — send forth; ಚ — and; ಅಮೃತಂ — immortality; ಚ — and; ಏವ — certainly; ಮೃತ್ಯುಃ — death; ಚ — and; ಸತ್ — spirit; ಅಸತ್ — matter; ಚ — and; ಅಹಂ — I; ಅರ್ಜುನ — O Arjuna.
Translation
O Arjuna, I give heat, and I withhold and send forth the rain. I am immortality, and I am also death personified. Both spirit and matter are in Me.

ತ್ರೈವಿದ್ಯಾ ಮಾಂ ಸೋಮಪಾಃ ಪೂತಪಾಪಾ
ಯಜ್ಞೈರಿಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಸ್ವರ್ಗತಿಂ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಂತೇ ।
ತೇ ಪುಣ್ಯಮಾಸಾದ್ಯ ಸುರೇಂದ್ರಲೋಕ-
ಮಶ್ನಂತಿ ದಿವ್ಯಾಂದಿವಿ ದೇವಭೋಗಾನ್ ॥ 20 ॥
Meaning
ತ್ರೈ-ವಿದ್ಯಾಃ — the knowers of the three Vedas; ಮಾಂ — Me; ಸೋಮ-ಪಾಃ — drinkers of soma juice; ಪೂತ — purified; ಪಾಪಾಃ — of sins; ಯಜ್ಞೈಃ — with sacrifices; ಇಷ್ಟ್ವಾ — worshiping; ಸ್ವಃ-ಗತಿಂ — passage to heaven; ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಂತೇ — pray for; ತೇ — they; ಪುಣ್ಯಂ — pious; ಆಸಾದ್ಯ — attaining; ಸುರ-ಇಂದ್ರ — of Indra; ಲೋಕಂ — the world; ಅಶ್ನಂತಿ — enjoy; ದಿವ್ಯಾನ್ — celestial; ದಿವಿ — in heaven; ದೇವ-ಭೋಗಾನ್ — the pleasures of the gods.
Translation
Those who study the Vedas and drink the soma juice, seeking the heavenly planets, worship Me indirectly. Purified of sinful reactions, they take birth on the pious, heavenly planet of Indra, where they enjoy godly delights.

ತೇ ತಂ ಭುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಲೋಕಂ ವಿಶಾಲಂ
ಕ್ಷೀಣೇ ಪುಣ್ಯೇ ಮರ್ತ್ಯಲೋಕಂ ವಿಶಂತಿ ।
ಏವಂ ತ್ರಯೀಧರ್ಮಮನುಪ್ರಪನ್ನಾ
ಗತಾಗತಂ ಕಾಮಕಾಮಾ ಲಭಂತೇ ॥ 21 ॥
Meaning

Translation
When they have thus enjoyed vast heavenly sense pleasure and the results of their pious activities are exhausted, they return to this mortal planet again. Thus those who seek sense enjoyment by adhering to the principles of the three Vedas achieve only repeated birth and death.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅನನ್ಯಾಶ್ಚಿಂತಯಂತೋ ಮಾಂ ಯೇ ಜನಾಃ ಪರ್ಯುಪಾಸತೇ ।
ತೇಷಾಂ ನಿತ್ಯಾಭಿಯುಕ್ತಾನಾಂ ಯೋಗಕ್ಷೇಮಂ ವಹಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ॥ 22 ॥
Meaning
ಅನನ್ಯಾಃ — having no other object; ಚಿಂತಯಂತಃ — concentrating; ಮಾಂ — on Me; ಯೇ — those who; ಜನಾಃ — persons; ಪರ್ಯುಪಾಸತೇ — properly worship; ತೇಷಾಂ — of them; ನಿತ್ಯ — always; ಅಭಿಯುಕ್ತಾನಾಂ — fixed in devotion; ಯೋಗ — requirements; ಕ್ಷೇಮಂ — protection; ವಹಾಮಿ — carry; ಅಹಂ — I.
Translation
But those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form – to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಯೇಽಪ್ಯನ್ಯದೇವತಾಭಕ್ತಾ ಯಜಂತೇ ಶ್ರದ್ಧಯಾನ್ವಿತಾಃ ।
ತೇಽಪಿ ಮಾಮೇವ ಕೌಂತೇಯ ಯಜಂತ್ಯವಿಧಿಪೂರ್ವಕಮ್ ॥ 23 ॥
Meaning
ಯೇ — those who; ಅಪಿ — also; ಅನ್ಯ — of other; ದೇವತಾ — gods; ಭಕ್ತಾಃ — devotees; ಯಜಂತೇ — worship; ಶ್ರದ್ಧಯಾ ಅನ್ವಿತಾಃ — with faith; ತೇ — they; ಅಪಿ — also; ಮಾಂ — Me; ಏವ — only; ಕೌಂತೇಯ — O son of Kuntī; ಯಜಂತಿ — they worship; ಅವಿಧಿ-ಪೂರ್ವಕಂ — in a wrong way.
Translation
Those who are devotees of other gods and who worship them with faith actually worship only Me, O son of Kuntī, but they do so in a wrong way.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅಹಂ ಹಿ ಸರ್ವಯಜ್ಞಾನಾಂ ಭೋಕ್ತಾ ಚ ಪ್ರಭುರೇವ ಚ ।
ನ ತು ಮಾಮಭಿಜಾನಂತಿ ತತ್ತ್ವೇನಾತಶ್ಚ್ಯವಂತಿ ತೇ ॥ 24 ॥
Meaning
ಅಹಂ — I; ಹಿ — surely; ಸರ್ವ — of all; ಯಜ್ಞಾನಾಂ — sacrifices; ಭೋಕ್ತಾ — the enjoyer; ಚ — and; ಪ್ರಭುಃ — the Lord; ಏವ — also; ಚ — and; ನ — not; ತು — but; ಮಾಂ — Me; ಅಭಿಜಾನಂತಿ — they know; ತತ್ತ್ವೇನ — in reality; ಅತಃ — therefore; ಚ್ಯವಂತಿ — fall down; ತೇ — they.
Translation
I am the only enjoyer and master of all sacrifices. Therefore, those who do not recognize My true transcendental nature fall down.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಯಾಂತಿ ದೇವವ್ರತಾ ದೇವಾನ್ಪಿತೄನ್ಯಾಂತಿ ಪಿತೃವ್ರತಾಃ ।
ಭೂತಾನಿ ಯಾಂತಿ ಭೂತೇಜ್ಯಾ ಯಾಂತಿ ಮದ್ಯಾಜಿನೋಽಪಿ ಮಾಮ್ ॥ 25 ॥

ಯಾಂತಿ — go; ದೇವ-ವ್ರತಾಃ — worshipers of demigods; ದೇವಾನ್ — to the demigods; ಪಿತೄನ್ — to the ancestors; ಯಾಂತಿ — go; ಪಿತೃ-ವ್ರತಾಃ — worshipers of ancestors; ಭೂತಾನಿ — to the ghosts and spirits; ಯಾಂತಿ — go; ಭೂತ-ಇಜ್ಯಾಃ — worshipers of ghosts and spirits; ಯಾಂತಿ — go; ಮತ್ — My; ಯಾಜಿನಃ — devotees; ಅಪಿ — but; ಮಾಂ — unto Me.
Translation
Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods; those who worship the ancestors go to the ancestors; those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; and those who worship Me will live with Me.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಪತ್ರಂ ಪುಷ್ಪಂ ಫಲಂ ತೋಯಂ ಯೋ ಮೇ ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಆ ಪ್ರಯಚ್ಛತಿ ।
ತದಹಂ ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಉಪಹೃತಮಶ್ನಆಮಿ ಪ್ರಯತಾತ್ಮನಃ ॥ 26 ॥
Meaning
ಪತ್ರಂ — a leaf; ಪುಷ್ಪಂ — a flower; ಫಲಂ — a fruit; ತೋಯಂ — water; ಯಃ — whoever; ಮೇ — unto Me; ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಾ — with devotion; ಪ್ರಯಚ್ಚತಿ — offers; ತತ್ — that; ಅಹಂ — I; ಭಕ್ತಿ-ಉಪಹೃತಂ — offered in devotion; ಅಶ್ನಾಮಿ — accept; ಪ್ರಯತ-ಆತ್ಮನಃ — from one in pure consciousness.
Translation
If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I will accept it.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಯತ್ಕರೋಷಿ ಯದಶ್ನಆಸಿ ಯಜ್ಜಉಹೋಷಿ ದದಾಸಿ ಯತ್ ।
ಯತ್ತಪಸ್ಯಸಿ ಕೌಂತೇಯ ತತ್ಕುರುಷ್ವ ಮದರ್ಪಣಮ್ ॥ 27 ॥
Meaning
ಯತ್ — whatever; ಕರೋಷಿ — you do; ಯತ್ — whatever; ಅಶ್ನಾಸಿ — you eat; ಯತ್ — whatever; ಜುಹೋಷಿ — you offer; ದದಾಸಿ — you give away; ಯತ್ — whatever; ಯತ್ — whatever; ತಪಸ್ಯಸಿ — austerities you perform; ಕೌಂತೇಯ — O son of Kuntī; ತತ್ — that; ಕುರುಷ್ವ — do; ಮತ್ — unto Me; ಅರ್ಪಣಂ — as an offering.
Translation
Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform – do that, O son of Kuntī, as an offering to Me.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಶಉಭಾಶಉಭಫಲೈರೇವಂ ಮೋಕ್ಷ್ಯಸೇ ಕರ್ಮಬಂಧನೈಃ ।
ಸನ್ನ್ಯಾಸಯೋಗಯುಕ್ತಾತ್ಮಾ ವಿಮುಕ್ತೋ ಮಾಮುಪೈಷ್ಯಸಿ ॥ 28 ॥
Meaning
ಶುಭ — from auspicious; ಅಶುಭ — and inauspicious; ಫಲೈಃ — results; ಏವಂ — thus; ಮೋಕ್ಷ್ಯಸೇ — you will become free; ಕರ್ಮ — of work; ಬಂಧನೈಃ — from the bondage; ಸನ್ನ್ಯಾಸ — of renunciation; ಯೋಗ — the yoga; ಯುಕ್ತ-ಆತ್ಮಾ — having the mind firmly set on; ವಿಮುಕ್ತಃ — liberated; ಮಾಂ — to Me; ಉಪೈಷ್ಯಸಿ — you will attain.
Translation
In this way you will be freed from bondage to work and its auspicious and inauspicious results. With your mind fixed on Me in this principle of renunciation, you will be liberated and come to Me.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಸಮೋಽಹಂ ಸರ್ವಭೂತೇಷು ನ ಮೇ ದ್ವೇಷ್ಯೋಽಸ್ತಿ ನ ಪ್ರಿಯಃ ।
ಯೇ ಭಜಂತಿ ತು ಮಾಂ ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಆ ಮಯಿ ತೇ ತೇಷು ಚಾಪ್ಯಹಮ್ ॥ 29 ॥
Meaning
ಸಮಃ — equally disposed; ಅಹಂ — I; ಸರ್ವ-ಭೂತೇಷು — to all living entities; ನ — no one; ಮೇ — to Me; ದ್ವೇಷ್ಯಃ — hateful; ಅಸ್ತಿ — is; ನ — nor; ಪ್ರಿಯಃ — dear; ಯೇ — those who; ಭಜಂತಿ — render transcendental service; ತು — but; ಮಾಂ — unto Me; ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಾ — in devotion; ಮಯಿ — are in Me; ತೇ — such persons; ತೇಷು — in them; ಚ — also; ಅಪಿ — certainly; ಅಹಂ — I.
Translation
I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him.

ಅಪಿ ಚೇತ್ಸುದುರಾಚಾರೋ ಭಜತೇ ಮಾಮನನ್ಯಭಾಕ್ ।
ಸಾಧುರೇವ ಸ ಮಂತವ್ಯಃ ಸಮ್ಯಗ್ವ್ಯವಸಿತೋ ಹಿ ಸಃ ॥ 30 ॥
Meaning
ಅಪಿ — even; ಚೇತ್ — if; ಸು-ದುರಾಚಾರಃ — one committing the most abominable actions; ಭಜತೇ — is engaged in devotional service; ಮಾಂ — unto Me; ಅನನ್ಯ-ಭಾಕ್ — without deviation; ಸಾಧುಃ — a saint; ಏವ — certainly; ಸಃ — he; ಮಂತವ್ಯಃ — is to be considered; ಸಮ್ಯಕ್ — completely; ವ್ಯವಸಿತಃ — situated in determination; ಹಿ — certainly; ಸಃ — he.
Translation
Even if one commits the most abominable action, if he is engaged in devotional service he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated in his determination.

ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಂ ಭವತಿ ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾ ಶಶ್ವಚ್ಛಾಂತಿಂ ನಿಗಚ್ಛತಿ ।
ಕೌಂತೇಯ ಪ್ರತಿಜಾನೀಹಿ ನ ಮೇ ಭಕ್ತಃ ಪ್ರಣಶ್ಯತಿ ॥ 31 ॥
Meaning
ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಂ — very soon; ಭವತಿ — becomes; ಧರ್ಮ-ಆತ್ಮಾ — righteous; ಶಶ್ವತ್-ಶಾಂತಿಂ — lasting peace; ನಿಗಚ್ಚತಿ — attains; ಕೌಂತೇಯ — O son of Kuntī; ಪ್ರತಿಜಾನೀಹಿ — declare; ನ — never; ಮೇ — My; ಭಕ್ತಃ — devotee; ಪ್ರಣಶ್ಯತಿ — perishes.
Translation
He quickly becomes righteous and attains lasting peace. O son of Kuntī, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes.

ಮಾಂ ಹಿ ಪಾರ್ಥ ವ್ಯಪಾಶ್ರಿತ್ಯ ಯೇಽಪಿ ಸ್ಯುಃ ಪಾಪಯೋನಯಃ ।
ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯೋ ವೈಶ್ಯಾಸ್ತಥಾ ಶಊದ್ರಾಸ್ತೇಽಪಿ ಯಾಂತಿ ಪರಾಂ ಗತಿಮ್ ॥ 32 ॥
Meaning
ಮಾಂ — of Me; ಹಿ — certainly; ಪಾರ್ಥ — O son of Prithā; ವ್ಯಪಾಶ್ರಿತ್ಯ — particularly taking shelter; ಯೇ — those who; ಅಪಿ — also; ಸ್ಯುಃ — are; ಪಾಪ-ಯೋನಯಃ — born of a lower family; ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ — women; ವೈಶ್ಯಾಃ — mercantile people; ತಥಾ — also; ಶೂದ್ರಾಃ — lower-class men; ತೇ ಅಪಿ — even they; ಯಾಂತಿ — go; ಪರಾಂ — to the supreme; ಗತಿಂ — destination.
Translation
O son of Prithā, those who take shelter in Me, though they be of lower birth – women, vaiśyas [merchants] and śūdras [workers] – can attain the supreme destination.

ಕಿಂ — how much; ಪುನಃ — again; ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಾಃ — brāhmaṇas; ಪುಣ್ಯಾಃ — righteous; ಭಕ್ತಾಃ — devotees; ರಾಜ-ಋಷಯಃ — saintly kings; ತಥಾ — also; ಅನಿತ್ಯಂ — temporary; ಅಸುಖಂ — full of miseries; ಲೋಕಂ — planet; ಇಮಂ — this; ಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ — gaining; ಭಜಸ್ವ — be engaged in loving service; ಮಾಂ — unto Me.
Translation
How much more this is so of the righteous brāhmaṇas, the devotees and the saintly kings. Therefore, having come to this temporary, miserable world, engage in loving service unto Me.

ಮನ್ಮನಾ ಭವ ಮದ್ಭಕ್ತೋ ಮದ್ಯಾಜೀ ಮಾಂ ನಮಸ್ಕುರು ।
ಮಾಮೇವೈಷ್ಯಸಿ ಯುಕ್ತ್ವೈವಮಾತ್ಮಾನಂ ಮತ್ಪರಾಯಣಃ ॥ 34 ॥

ಮತ್-ಮನಾಃ — always thinking of Me; ಭವ — become; ಮತ್ — My; ಭಕ್ತಃ — devotee; ಮತ್ — My; ಯಾಜೀ — worshiper; ಮಾಂ — unto Me; ನಮಸ್-ಕುರು — offer obeisances; ಮಾಂ — unto Me; ಏವ — completely; ಏಷ್ಯಸಿ — you will come; ಯುಕ್ತ್ವಾ — being absorbed; ಏವಂ — thus; ಆತ್ಮಾನಂ — your soul; ಮತ್-ಪರಾಯಣಃ — devoted to Me.
Translation
Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.
