ಗತ್ವಾ ಸಾಂದೀಪನಿಮಥ ಚತುಷ್ಷಷ್ಟಿಮಾತ್ರೈರಹೋಭಿಃ
ಸರ್ವಜ್ಞಸ್ತ್ವಂ ಸಹ ಮುಸಲಿನಾ ಸರ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾ ಗೃಹೀತ್ವಾ ।
ಪುತ್ರಂ ನಷ್ಟಂ ಯಮನಿಲಯನಾದಾಹೃತಂ ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾರ್ಥಂ
ದತ್ವಾ ತಸ್ಮೈ ನಿಜಪುರಮಗಾ ನಾದಯನ್ ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯಮ್ ॥1॥
Meaning
ಗತ್ವಾ ಸಾಂದೀಪನಿಂ-ಅಥ - going to the sage Saandipani, then; ಚತುಃ-ಷಷ್ಟಿ-ಮಾತ್ರೈಃ-ಅಹೋಭಿಃ - in 64 days only; ಸರ್ವಜ್ಞಃ-ತ್ವಂ - Omniscient Thou; ಸಹ ಮುಸಲಿನಾ - along with Balaraama; ಸರ್ವ-ವಿದ್ಯಾ ಗೃಹೀತ್ವಾ - all knowledge mastering; ಪುತ್ರಂ ನಷ್ಟಂ - the dead son; ಯಮ-ನಿಲಯನಾತ್-ಆಹೃತಂ - from Yama's abode bringing; ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾ-ಅರ್ಥಂ - by way of dakshinaa (to the teacher Sandipini); ದತ್ವಾ ತಸ್ಮೈ - giving him; ನಿಜ-ಪುರಂ-ಅಗಾ - to Thy city went back; ನಾದಯನ್ ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯಂ - sounding the conch Paanchajanya;
Translation
Along with Balaraama Thou went to sage Sandipani's aashram and mastered all knowledge in just 64 days. Thou brought back Thy guru Sandipani's dead son from Yama's abode and gave him by way of Guru-dakshinaa. Thou then went back to Thy city sounding the conch Paanchajanya.

ಸ್ಮೃತ್ವಾ ಸ್ಮೃತ್ವಾ ಪಶುಪಸುದೃಶಃ ಪ್ರೇಮಭಾರಪ್ರಣುನ್ನಾಃ
ಕಾರುಣ್ಯೇನ ತ್ವಮಪಿ ವಿವಶಃ ಪ್ರಾಹಿಣೋರುದ್ಧವಂ ತಮ್ ।
ಕಿಂಚಾಮುಷ್ಮೈ ಪರಮಸುಹೃದೇ ಭಕ್ತವರ್ಯಾಯ ತಾಸಾಂ
ಭಕ್ತ್ಯುದ್ರೇಕಂ ಸಕಲಭುವನೇ ದುರ್ಲಭಂ ದರ್ಶಯಿಷ್ಯನ್ ॥2॥
Meaning
ಸ್ಮೃತ್ವಾ ಸ್ಮೃತ್ವಾ - remembering again and again; ಪಶುಪ-ಸುದೃಶಃ - the beautiful Gopikas; ಪ್ರೇಮ-ಭಾರ-ಪ್ರಣುನ್ನಾಃ - who were overwhelmed with love for Thee; ಕಾರುಣ್ಯೇನ - with compassion; ತ್ವಂ-ಅಪಿ ವಿವಶಃ - Thou also were overcome; ಪ್ರಾಹಿಣೋಃ-ಉದ್ಧವಂ ತಂ - (Thou) sent that Uddhava; ಕಿಂ-ಚ-ಅಮುಷ್ಮೈ - and besides to him; ಪರಮ-ಸುಹೃದೇ - (Thy) very dear friend; ಭಕ್ತವರ್ಯಾಯ ತಾಸಾಂ - those great devotees; ಭಕ್ತಿ-ಉದ್ರೇಕಂ - intense devotion; ಸ್ಕಲ-ಭುವನೇ ದುರ್ಲಭಂ - rare in the whole world; ದರ್ಶಯಿಷ್ಯನ್ - wishing to show;
Translation
Again and again Thou remembered the overwhelming love of the beautiful Gopikas for Thee. Thou were also overpowered with compassion for them. Thou sent Thy very dear friend Uddhava to them with a message. Also with the desire to demonstrate to him the intense devotion of those great devotees which was rare in the whole world.

ತ್ವನ್ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯಪ್ರಥಿಮಪಿಶುನಂ ಗೋಕುಲಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ ಸಾಯಂ

ತ್ವತ್-ಮಾಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯ- - Thy greatness (and); ಪ್ರಥಿಮ-ಪಿಶುನಂ - magnitude indicating; ಗೋಕುಲಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ ಸಾಯಂ - to Gokula reaching in the evening; ತ್ವತ್-ವಾರ್ತಾಭಿಃ-ಬಹು - with Thy many news; ಸ ರಮಯಾಮಾಸ - he (Uddhava) delighted; ನಂದಂ ಯಶೋದಾಂ - Nanda and Yashodaa; ಪ್ರಾತಃ-ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ - in the morning seeing; ಮಣಿಮಯ-ರಥಂ - the bejewelled chariot; ಶಂಕಿತಾಃ ಪಂಕಜಾಕ್ಷ್ಯಃ - suspecting, the lotus eyed women; ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಂ - hearing (that) had come; ಭವತ್-ಅನುಚರಂ - Thy emissary (follower); ತ್ಯಕ್ತ-ಕಾರ್ಯಾಃ - abandoning their work; ಸಮೀಯುಃ - gathered;
Translation
Gokula's prosperity was an indication of the magnitude of Thy greatness. Reaching there in the evening, Uddhava delighted Nanda and Yashodaa with Thy many news. In the morning the lotus eyed women of Gokula saw the bejewelled chariot and suspected Thy arrival. They came to know that one of Thy emissaries had come. Abandoning their work, they gathered at the house of Nandagopa.

ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಚೈನಂ ತ್ವದುಪಮಲಸದ್ವೇಷಭೂಷಾಭಿರಾಮಂ

Meaning
ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಚ-ಏನಂ - and seeing him; ತ್ವತ್-ಉಪಮ- - similar to Thee; ಲಸತ್-ವೇಷ-ಭೂಷಾ-ಅಭಿರಾಮಂ - donning clothes and ornaments charming; ಸ್ಮೃತ್ವಾ ಸ್ಮೃತ್ವಾ - remembering again and again; ತವ ವಿಲಸಿತಾನಿ- - Thy various deeds; ಉಚ್ಚಕೈಃ-ತಾನಿ ತಾನಿ - thoroughly all of them; ರುದ್ಧ-ಆಲಾಪಾಃ - choking for words; ಕಥಂ-ಅಪಿ - somehow; ಪುನಃ-ಗದ್ಗದಾಂ - again with faltering; ವಾಚಂ-ಊಚುಃ - words spoke; ಸೌಜನ್ಯ-ಆದೀನ್ - behaviour etc.,; ನಿಜ-ಪರ-ಭಿದಾಂ- - self and others' difference; ಅಪಿ-ಅಲಂ - also completely; ವಿಸ್ಮರಂತ್ಯಃ - forgetting;
Translation
The Gopikas saw Uddhava donning charming clothes and ornaments similar to Thine. They remembered Thee again and again and Thy various deeds and sports very thoroughly. They were full of emotions and were choking for words, and somehow managed to speak to Uddhava with faltering words. They had forgotten to observe the norms of behaviour and courtesies, and the differences between themselves and others.

ಮುನ್ಮಾದಾನಾಂ ಕುಹಕವಚಸಾಂ ವಿಸ್ಮರೇತ್ ಕಾಂತ ಕಾ ವಾ ॥5॥
Meaning
ಶ್ರೀಮಾನ್ ಕಿಂ ತ್ವಂ - O Sir! Is it (that) you; ಪಿತೃಜನ-ಕೃತೇ - for the sake of the parents; ಪ್ರೇಷಿತಃ ನಿರ್ದಯೇನ - are sent by the heart-less one; ಕ್ವ-ಅಸೌ ಕಾಂತಃ - where is that (Krishna) beloved; ನಗರ-ಸುದೃಶಾಂ - of the city beauties; ಹಾ ಹರೇ ನಾಥ ಪಾಯಾಃ - O Hari! O Lord! protect us; ಆಶ್ಲೇಷಾಣಾಂ- - of the embraces; ಅಮೃತ-ವಪುಷಃ - of that nectarine form; ಹಂತ ತೇ - alas! Of Thee; ಚುಂಬನಾನಾಂ - the kisses; ಉನ್ಮಾದಾನಾಂ - the intense love; ಕುಹಕ-ವಚಸಾಂ - and sly words; ವಿಸ್ಮರೇತ್ ಕಾಂತ - will forget O beloved; ಕಾ ವಾ - which one (woman);
Translation
O Sir! Is it that you are sent by the heartless Krishna for the sake of his parents? Where is the beloved one of the beauties of the city? O Lord! O Hari! Protect us. Alas which one of us women can forget the embrace of the nectarine form, the kisses of intense love and the frolicsome words of the beloved one?'

ರಾಸ-ಕ್ರೀಡಾ - during the Raasa dance; ಲುಲಿತ-ಲಲಿತಂ - which was done up, the beautiful; ವಿಶ್ಲಥತ್-ಕೇಶ-ಪಾಶಂ - dishevelled untied (loosened) hair; ಮಂದ-ಉದ್ಭಿನ್ನ- - the slight appearance (of); ಶ್ರಮಜಲ-ಕಣಂ - of the sweat drops due to exertion; ಲೋಭನೀಯಂ ತ್ವತ್-ಅಂಗಂ - enchanting Thy form; ಕಾರುಣ್ಯ-ಅಬ್ಧೇ - O Ocean of Compassion!; ಸಕೃತ್-ಅಪಿ - at least once; ಸಮಾಲಿಂಗಿತುಂ ದರ್ಶಯ- - to embrace (kindly) show; ಇತಿ ಪ್ರೇಮ-ಉನ್ಮಾದಾತ್- - thus out of intense love; ಭುವನಮದನ - O Enchanter of all the worlds!; ತ್ವತ್-ಪ್ರಿಯಾಃ- - Thy dear ones; ತ್ವಾಂ ವಿಲೇಪುಃ - implored Thee;
Translation
During the Raasa dance the done up beautiful hair which were dishevelled and had loosened, and with the appearance of sweat drops, Thy form was rendered enchanting. O Ocean of Compassion! Reveal to us once that form, so that we may once more embrace that form of Thee! O Enchanter of all the worlds!', thus Thy dear ones implored Thee out of intense love.

Meaning
ಏವಂ-ಪ್ರಾಯೈಃ- - of such kind; ವಿವಶ-ವಚನೈಃ- - of despairful words; ಆಕುಲಾಃ ಗೋಪಿಕಾಃ-ತಾಃ- - overwhelmed with grief, those Gopikaas; ತ್ವತ್-ಸಂದೇಶೈಃ - with Thy messages (of deep knowledge); ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಂ-ಅನಯತ್ - came to their own selves (became normal); ಸಃ-ಅಥ - he (Uddhava) then; ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ-ಗರ್ಭೈಃ - with knowledge of self full of; ಭೂಯಃ- - thereafter; ತಾಭಿಃ-ಮುದಿತಮತಿಭಿಃ- - with them who were delighted; ತ್ವತ್-ಮಯೀಭಿಃ-ವಧೂಭಿಃ- - and who were absorbed in Thee, with (those) women; ತತ್-ತತ್-ವಾರ್ತಾ- - all those tales; ಸರಸಂ-ಅನಯತ್ - happily narrating spent; ಕಾನಿಚಿತ್-ವಾಸರಾಣಿ - some days;
Translation
The Gopikas bemoaned their fate with such words of despair and were overwhelmed with grief. Uddhava comforted them with Thy message of deep spiritual import. They came to their normal selves and thereafter experienced Thy inner presence. Uddhava spent some days with the totally devoted Gopikas joyfully and happily narrating various incidents about Thee.

ತ್ವತ್ಪ್ರೋದ್ಗಾನೈಃ ಸಹಿತಮನಿಶಂ ಸರ್ವತೋ ಗೇಹಕೃತ್ಯಂ

ತ್ವತ್-ಪ್ರೋದ್ಗಾನೈಃ ಸಹಿತಂ- - with songs about Thee; ಅನಿಶಂ ಸರ್ವತಃ - always everywhere; ಗೇಹ-ಕೃತ್ಯಂ - household chores; ತ್ವತ್-ವಾರ್ತಾ-ಏವ - Thy tale alone; ಪ್ರಸರತಿ - goes on; ಮಿಥಃ ಸಾ-ಏವ - amongst them that alone; ಚ-ಉತ್ಸ್ವ-ಅಪಲಾಪಾಃ - in dreams speaking; ಚೇಷ್ಟಾಃ ಪ್ರಾಯಃ- - actions mostly; ತ್ವತ್-ಅನುಕೃತಯಃ- - were Thy imitations; ತ್ವತ್-ಮಯಂ - Thyself personified; ಸರ್ವಂ-ಏವಂ - everything altogether; ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ತತ್ರ - seeing there; ವ್ಯಮುಹತ್-ಅಧಿಕಂ - was stunned very greatly; ವಿಸ್ಮಯಾತ್-ಉದ್ಧವಃ-ಅಯಂ - with wonder.that Uddhava;
Translation
The Gopikas always sang songs about Thee. Everywhere while doing their household chores, they narrated Thine tales, amongst themselves. They even spoke about Thee in their dreams.Their actions were mostly imitations of Thy actions as they tried to personify Thee. Everything that there, was permeated by Thy presence. Observing all this that great devotee Uddhava was wonderstruck and left stunned.

ರಾಧಾಯಾ ಮೇ ಪ್ರಿಯತಮಮಿದಂ ಮತ್ಪ್ರಿಯೈವಂ ಬ್ರವೀತಿ
ತ್ವಂ ಕಿಂ ಮೌನಂ ಕಲಯಸಿ ಸಖೇ ಮಾನಿನೀಮತ್ಪ್ರಿಯೇವ।
ಇತ್ಯಾದ್ಯೇವ ಪ್ರವದತಿ ಸಖಿ ತ್ವತ್ಪ್ರಿಯೋ ನಿರ್ಜನೇ ಮಾ-
ಮಿತ್ಥಂವಾದೈರರಮದಯಂ ತ್ವತ್ಪ್ರಿಯಾಮುತ್ಪಲಾಕ್ಷೀಮ್ ॥9॥

ರಾಧಾಯಾಃ ಮೇ - for Raadhaa of Mine; ಪ್ರಿಯತಮಂ-ಇದಂ - this is the favourite; ಮತ್-ಪ್ರಿಯಾ-ಏವಂ ಬ್ರವೀತಿ - my dear one speaks like this; ತ್ವಂ ಕಿಂ ಮೌನಂ ಕಲಯಸಿ - you are why silence maintaining; ಸಖೇ - Oh! Friend; ಮಾನಿನೀ-ಮತ್-ಪ್ರಿಯಾ-ಇವ - like my dear and proud one (Raadhaa); ಇತಿ-ಆದಿ-ಏವ - in this way only; ಪ್ರವದತಿ ಸಖಿ - says O friend (Raadhaa); ತ್ವತ್-ಪ್ರಿಯಃ - your beloved (Krishna); ನಿರ್ಜನೇ ಮಾಂ- - when alone, to me; ಇತ್ಥಂ-ವಾದೈಃ- - with such words; ಅರಮತ್-ಅಯಂ - gladdened he (Uddhava); ತ್ವತ್-ಪ್ರಿಯಾಂ- - Thy dear one (Raadhaa); ಉತ್ಪಲ-ಆಕ್ಷೀಂ - the lotus eyed;
Translation
This is my Raadhaa's favourite. My dear one speaks like this. My dear friend! Why are you silent like my dear proud one (Raadhaa)?' 'In this way O dear friend (Raadhaa) your beloved (Krishna) speaks to me when we are alone.' With these words Uddhava gladdened Thy dear lotus eyed Raadhaa.

ಸ್ತುಲ್ಯೋ ವಃ ಸ್ಯಾದಿತಿ ತವ ಗಿರಾ ಸೋಽಕರೋನ್ನಿರ್ವ್ಯಥಾಸ್ತಾಃ ॥10॥

ಏಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ದ್ರಾಕ್- - I will come soon; ಅನುಪಗಮನಂ - (my) not coming is; ಕೇವಲಂ ಕಾರ್ಯಭಾರಾತ್- - only due to work pressure; ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷೇ-ಅಪಿ - in separation also; ಸ್ಮರಣ-ದೃಢತಾ-ಸಂಭವಾತ್- - because of firm remembrance; ಮಾ-ಅಸ್ತು ಖೇದಃ - let there be no grief; ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾನಂದೇ ಮಿಲತಿ - when Brahmaananda is attained; ನ-ಚಿರಾತ್ - without long (soon); ಸಂಗಮಃ ವಾ ವಿಯೋಗಃ- - meeting or separation; ತುಲ್ಯಃ ವಃ ಸ್ಯಾತ್- - same for you will be; ಇತಿ ತವ ಗಿರಾ - thus by Thy words; ಸಃ-ಅಕರೋತ್- - he made; ನಿರ್ವ್ಯಥಾಃ-ತಾಃ - them free of sorrow;
Translation
I shall come soon. My not coming is only due to work pressure. When there is firm remembrance, in separation also there is no grief. Before long when Brahmaananda is attained, you will experience the separation and union equally blissful.' By such words of Thine Uddhava appeased them.

ಏವಂ ಭಕ್ತಿಃ - such devotion; ಸಕಲ-ಭುವನೇ - in the whole world; ನ-ಈಕ್ಷಿತಾ - is not seen; ನ ಶ್ರುತಾ ವಾ - or is not heard of; ಕಿಂ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ-ಔಘೈಃ - of what use are so many scriptures; ಕಿಂ-ಇಹ ತಪಸಾ - of what use here is penance; ಗೋಪಿಕಾಭ್ಯಃ ನಮಃ-ಅಸ್ತು - for the Gopikaasa may there be salutations; ಇತಿ-ಆದಿ- - thus and so; ಆನಂದ-ಆಕುಲಂ- - overwhelmed with joy; ಉಪಗತಂ ಗೋಕುಲಾತ್- - who had returned from Gokula; ಉದ್ಧವಂ ತಂ - that Uddhava; ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಹೃಷ್ಟಃ - seeing, very happy (Thou); ಗುರುಪುರಪತೇ ಪಾಹಿ - O Lord of Guruvaayur! Save me; ಮಾಂ-ಆಮಯ-ಔಘಾತ್ - from my so many afflictions;
Translation
Such devotion is neither seen nor heard of in the whole world. Of what use is the study of so many scriptures and the practices there in. And what is the use here of all penances. May there be salutations to the Gopikaas.' Thus Uddhava joyfully exclaimed when he returned from Gokula and met Thee. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Who were happy to see Uddhava, save me from so many of my afflictions.
