ತ್ವಯಿ ವಿಹರಣಲೋಲೇ ಬಾಲಜಾಲೈಃ ಪ್ರಲಮ್ಬ-
ಪ್ರಮಥನಸವಿಲಮ್ಬೇ ಧೇನವಃ ಸ್ವೈರಚಾರಾಃ ।
ತೃಣಕುತುಕನಿವಿಷ್ಟಾ ದೂರದೂರಂ ಚರನ್ತ್ಯಃ
ಕಿಮಪಿ ವಿಪಿನಮೈಷೀಕಾಖ್ಯಮೀಷಾಮ್ಬಭೂವುಃ ॥1॥
Meaning
ತ್ವಯಿ ವಿಹರಣ-ಲೋಲೇ - (when) Thou (were) engaged in playing; ಬಾಲ-ಜಾಲೈಃ - with the boys' group; ಪ್ರಲಮ್ಬ-ಪ್ರಮಥನ- - in the Pralambaasura killing; ಸವಿಲಮ್ಬೇ - (and) were delayed; ಧೇನವಃ ಸ್ವೈರ-ಚಾರಾಃ - the cows of their own will; ತೃಣ-ಕುತುಕ-ನಿವಿಷ್ಟಾ - eager to eat grass; ದೂರ-ದೂರಂ ಚರನ್ತ್ಯಃ - far and far moving; ಕಿಮಪಿ ವಿಪಿನಮ್- - (to) some forest; ಐಷೀಕ-ಆಖ್ಯಮ್- - Aishika (also a grass) named; ಈಷಾಂ ಬಭೂವುಃ - came near;
Translation
As Thou were engaged in playing with the group of boys and were held up in the destruction of Pralambaasura, the cows moved far ahead in their eagerness to eat grass. They reached a nearby forest named Aishika.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅನಧಿಗತನಿದಾಘಕ್ರೌರ್ಯವೃನ್ದಾವನಾನ್ತಾತ್
ಬಹಿರಿದಮುಪಯಾತಾಃ ಕಾನನಂ ಧೇನವಸ್ತಾಃ ।
ತವ ವಿರಹವಿಷಣ್ಣಾ ಊಷ್ಮಲಗ್ರೀಷ್ಮತಾಪ-
ಪ್ರಸರವಿಸರದಮ್ಭಸ್ಯಾಕುಲಾಃ ಸ್ತಮ್ಭಮಾಪುಃ ॥2॥
Meaning
ಅನಧಿಗತ - (which was) not felt; ನಿದಾಘ-ಕ್ರೌರ್ಯಂ- - the summer heat cruel (intensity); ವೃನ್ದಾವನ-ಅನ್ತಾತ್ - at Vrindaavana's outer end; ಬಹಿಃ-ಇದಮ್-ಉಪಯಾತಾಃ - outside this (who had) reached; ಕಾನನಂ ಧೇನವಃ-ತಾಃ - the forest, those cows; ತವ ವಿರಹ-ವಿಷಣ್ಣಾ - (by) Thy separation tormented; ಊಷ್ಮಲ-ಗ್ರೀಷ್ಮ-ತಾಪ- - (and) the intensely hot the summer heat; ಪ್ರಸರ-ವಿಸರತ್- - increasing and spreading; ಅಮ್ಭಸ್ಯ-ಆಕುಲಾಃ - for want of water suffering; ಸ್ತಮ್ಭಮ್-ಆಪುಃ - motionless became;
Translation
The cruel summer heat was not felt in the Vrindaavana forest. But when the cows reached the outskirts of the forest, they were tormented by the intensely hot summer heat which was increasing and spreading. Exhausted by the heat and for the want of water and also out of grief at the separation from Thee, they stood stunned and motionless.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ತದನು ಸಹ ಸಹಾಯೈರ್ದೂರಮನ್ವಿಷ್ಯ ಶೌರೇ
ಗಲಿತಸರಣಿಮುಞ್ಜಾರಣ್ಯಸಞ್ಜಾತಖೇದಮ್ ।
ಪಶುಕುಲಮಭಿವೀಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಮಾನೇತುಮಾರಾ-
ತ್ತ್ವಯಿ ಗತವತಿ ಹೀ ಹೀ ಸರ್ವತೋಽಗ್ನಿರ್ಜಜೃಮ್ಭೇ ॥3॥
Meaning
ತದನು ಸಹ ಸಹಾಯೈಃ- - then with Thy helpers; ದೂರಮ್-ಅನ್ವಿಷ್ಯ - till far searching; ಶೌರೇ - O Krishna; ಗಲಿತ-ಸರಣಿ- - loosing the way; ಮುಞ್ಜ-ಅರಣ್ಯ- - (reaching) the Munja forest; ಸಞಾತ-ಖೇದಮ್ - overcome by exhaustion; ಪಶುಕುಲಮ್-ಅಭಿವೀಕ್ಷ್ಯ - the cattle seeing; ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಮ್-ಆನೇತುಮ್- - quickly to bring; ಆರಾತ್-ತ್ವಯಿ ಗತವತಿ - near (when) Thou went; ಹೀ ಹೀ ಸರ್ವತಃ- - alas, alas, all around; ಅಗ್ನಿ;-ಜಜೃಮ್ಭೇ - a fire broke out;
Translation
O Krishna! Along with Thy mates, Thou ventured far in search of the cattle and having lost the way, Thou reached the Munja forest. There Thou discovered the cows standing in distress and as Thou were nearing them to bring them back, alas a wild fire broke out and spread.
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಸಕಲಹರಿತಿ ದೀಪ್ತೇ ಘೋರಭಾಙ್ಕಾರಭೀಮೇ
ಶಿಖಿನಿ ವಿಹತಮಾರ್ಗಾ ಅರ್ಧದಗ್ಧಾ ಇವಾರ್ತಾಃ ।
ಅಹಹ ಭುವನಬನ್ಧೋ ಪಾಹಿ ಪಾಹೀತಿ ಸರ್ವೇ
ಶರಣಮುಪಗತಾಸ್ತ್ವಾಂ ತಾಪಹರ್ತಾರಮೇಕಮ್ ॥4॥
Meaning
ಸಕಲ-ಹರಿತಿ ದೀಪ್ತೇ - (when) all the directions were blazing; ಘೋರ-ಭಾಙ್ಕಾರ-ಭೀಮೇ - (with) terrific roars frightening; ಶಿಖಿನಿ - the fire; ವಿಹತ-ಮಾರ್ಗಾ - obstructed the ways; ಅರ್ಧ-ದಗ್ಧಾಃ - half burnt; ಇವ-ಆರ್ತಾಃ - like tormented; ಅಹಹ ಭುವನಬನ್ಧೋ - O Friend of all!; ಪಾಹಿ ಪಾಹಿ-ಇತಿ - save, save us, thus; ಸರ್ವೇ ಶರಣಮ್-ಉಪಗತಾಃ- - all of them took refuge; ತ್ವಾಂ ತಾಪ-ಹರ್ತಾರಮ್-ಏಕಮ್ - in Thee, from all sorrows the saviour, the Only One;
Translation
All the directions were blazing with the outrageous fire and its terrific frightening roars. All the escape routes were obstructed and all the boys and cows were so tormented as if they were half burnt. They all took refuge in Thee who are a friend of all and called Thee saying, ' O The Only One saviour from all sorrows , save us, save us.'
ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅಲಮಲಮತಿಭೀತ್ಯಾ ಸರ್ವತೋ ಮೀಲಯಧ್ವಂ
ದೃಶಮಿತಿ ತವ ವಾಚಾ ಮೀಲಿತಾಕ್ಷೇಷು ತೇಷು ।
ಕ್ವ ನು ದವದಹನೋಽಸೌ ಕುತ್ರ ಮುಞ್ಜಾಟವೀ ಸಾ
ಸಪದಿ ವವೃತಿರೇ ತೇ ಹನ್ತ ಭಾಣ್ಡೀರದೇಶೇ ॥5॥
Meaning
ಅಲಮ್-ಅಲಮ್- - enough enough; ಅತಿ-ಭೀತ್ಯಾ - of so much fright; ಸರ್ವತಃ ಮೀಲಯಧ್ವಂ - all of you close; ದೃಶಮ್-ಇತಿ - the eyes, thus; ತವ ವಾಚಾ - by Thy words; ಮೀಲಿತ-ಅಕ್ಷೇಷು - (when they) had closed the eyes; ತೇಷು ಕ್ವ ನು - when they, where indeed (was); ದವ-ದಹನಃ-ಅಸೌ - forest fire that; ಕುತ್ರ ಮುಞ್ಜಾ-ಅಟವೀ ಸಾ - where (was) Munja forest that; ಸಪದಿ ವವೃತಿರೇ ತೇ - at once found themselves they; ಹನ್ತ ಭಾಣ್ಡೀರ-ದೇಶೇ - how wonderful, in Bhaandeera land;
Translation
Enough, enough of so much fright. Let all completely close their eyes.' Thus on Thy instruction when they had all closed their eyes, where indeed was the forest fire and where was the Munja forest? They instantly found themselves in the Bhaandeera area inside Vrindaavana. How wonderful!

ಜಯ ಜಯ ತವ ಮಾಯಾ ಕೇಯಮೀಶೇತಿ ತೇಷಾಂ
ನುತಿಭಿರುದಿತಹಾಸೋ ಬದ್ಧನಾನಾವಿಲಾಸಃ ।
ಪುನರಪಿ ವಿಪಿನಾನ್ತೇ ಪ್ರಾಚರಃ ಪಾಟಲಾದಿ-
ಪ್ರಸವನಿಕರಮಾತ್ರಗ್ರಾಹ್ಯಘರ್ಮಾನುಭಾವೇ ॥6॥
Meaning
ಜಯ ಜಯ - hail hail; ತವ ಮಾಯಾ - Thy mysterious ways; ಕಾ-ಇಯಮ್ - what is it; ಈಶ- - O Lord; ಇತಿ ತೇಷಾಂ - thus by them (the cowherds); ನುತಿಭಿಃ-ಉದಿತಹಾಸಃ - being praised, smilingly; ಬದ್ಧ-ನಾನಾ-ವಿಲಾಸಃ - in various ways sporting; ಪುನಃ-ಅಪಿ - again also; ವಿಪಿನ-ಅನ್ತೇ - in the forest's end; ಪ್ರಾಚರಃ ಪಾಟಲಾದಿ- - Thou roamed about, (where) the Paatala etc; ಪ್ರಸವ-ನಿಕರ- - (flowers) blooming in bunches; ಮಾತ್ರ-ಗ್ರಾಹ್ಯ- - (were the) only indication; ಘರ್ಮ-ಅನುಭಾವೇ - summer season's presence;
Translation
Hail, hail, Thy mysterious ways, unfathomable, O Lord!' Thus Thou were smilingly praised by them. Thou continued to roam about and sport in various ways, where the Paatala flowers blooming in bunches, were the only indication of the presence of the summer season.

ತ್ವಯಿ ವಿಮುಖಮಿವೋಚ್ಚೈಸ್ತಾಪಭಾರಂ ವಹನ್ತಂ

ತವ ಭುಜವದುದಞ್ಚದ್ಭೂರಿತೇಜಃಪ್ರವಾಹಂ
ತಪಸಮಯಮನೈಷೀರ್ಯಾಮುನೇಷು ಸ್ಥಲೇಷು ॥7॥
Meaning
ತ್ವಯಿ ವಿಮುಖಮ್- - (when) unto Thee, (one is) indifferent; ಇವ-ಉಚ್ಚೈಃ- - like that, very intense; ತಾಪಭಾರಂ ವಹನ್ತಮ್ - the weight of heat, carrying; ತವ ಭಜನ-ವದನ್ತಃ - Thy praises speaking (worshipping); ಪಙ್ಕಮ್- - the mud/slush; ಉಚ್ಛೋಷಯನ್ತಮ್ - drying up; ತವ ಭುಜ-ವತ್- - Thy two arms like; ಉದಞ್ಚತ್- - emitting; ಭೂರಿ-ತೇಜ-ಪ್ರವಾಹಂ - a great brilliance flow; ತಪ-ಸಮಯಮ್- - the summer time; ಅನೈಷೀಃ - Thou spend; ಯಾಮುನೇಷು ಸ್ಥಲೇಷು - on the Yamunaa banks;
Translation
The intense heat of the summer time was like the weight of the heat of passion that people carry in their minds who are indifferent to Thee. It was like the heat which is created by worshipping Thee, which dries up all the mud and slush of Thy devotees. It was like the brilliance flowing from Thy two arms. Such a summer time Thou spent on the banks of the river Yamunaa.

ಸಕಲಭುವನಭಾಜಾಂ ಹರ್ಷದಾಂ ವರ್ಷವೇಲಾಂ
ಕ್ಷಿತಿಧರಕುಹರೇಷು ಸ್ವೈರವಾಸೀ ವ್ಯನೈಷೀಃ ॥8॥
Meaning
ತದನು ಜಲದ-ಜಾಲೈಃ- - then with the cloud clusters; ತ್ವತ್-ವಪುಃ- - Thy body; ತುಲ್ಯ-ಭಾಭಿಃ- - like splendorous; ವಿಕಸತ್-ಅಮಲ- - shining pure; ವಿದ್ಯುತ್-ಪೀತವಾಸಃ- - lightening (like Thy) yellow garment; ವಿಲಾಸೈಃ - beautifully; ಸಕಲ-ಭುವನ-ಭಾಜಾಂ - (to) all the world's inhabitants; ಹರ್ಷದಾಂ ವರ್ಷವೇಲಾಂ - joy giving, the rainy season; ಕ್ಷಿತಿಧರ-ಕುಹರೇಷು - (in) the mountain caves; ಸ್ವೈರವಾಸೀ ವ್ಯನೈಷೀಃ - at will residing Thou spend;
Translation
Then, the clusters of clouds in the rainy season were like the hue of Thy splendorous body, the lightening shining was like the luster of Thy beautiful yellow garment. It gave joy to all the inhabitants of the world. Such a rainy season Thou spent, sporting at will, in the caves of the mountain (Govardhana).

ಕುಹರತಲನಿವಿಷ್ಟಂ ತ್ವಾಂ ಗರಿಷ್ಠಂ ಗಿರೀನ್ದ್ರಃ
ಶಿಖಿಕುಲನವಕೇಕಾಕಾಕುಭಿಃ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರಕಾರೀ ।
ಸ್ಫುಟಕುಟಜಕದಮ್ಬಸ್ತೋಮಪುಷ್ಪಾಞ್ಜಲಿಂ ಚ
ಪ್ರವಿದಧದನುಭೇಜೇ ದೇವ ಗೋವರ್ಧನೋಽಸೌ ॥9॥
Meaning
ಕುಹರತಲ-ನಿವಿಷ್ಟಂ - in the caves residing; ತ್ವಾಂ ಗರಿಷ್ಠಂ - to Thee, the highly honoured; ಗಿರೀನ್ದ್ರಃ - the mountain; ಶಿಖಿ-ಕುಲ- - the peacocks'; ನವ-ಕೇಕಾ- - pleasant cooings; ಕಾಕುಭಿಃ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರಕಾರೀ - as hymns praising; ಸ್ಫುಟ-ಕುಟಜ-ಕದಮ್ಬ- - blooming Kutaja and Kadamba; ಸ್ತೋಮ-ಪುಷ್ಪಾಞ್ಜಲಿಂ ಚ - heaps and as flower offerings; ಪ್ರವಿದಧತ್-ಅನುಭೇಜೇ - performing worship; ದೇವ - O Lord! (To Thee); ಗೋವರ್ಧನಃ-ಅಸೌ - Govardhana this, (the mountain);
Translation
O Lord! To Thee, the highly honoured One, living in its caves, the mountain king (Govardhana) extended its hospitality. It sang hymns of Thy praise in the form of the pleasant cooings of the peacocks. It worshipped Thee in the form of offering heaps of fully bloomed Kutaja and Kadamba flowers falling from the branches at Thy feet.

ಅಥ ಶರದಮುಪೇತಾಂ ತಾಂ ಭವದ್ಭಕ್ತಚೇತೋ-
ವಿಮಲಸಲಿಲಪೂರಾಂ ಮಾನಯನ್ ಕಾನನೇಷು ।
ತೃಣಮಮಲವನಾನ್ತೇ ಚಾರು ಸಞ್ಚಾರಯನ್ ಗಾಃ
ಪವನಪುರಪತೇ ತ್ವಂ ದೇಹಿ ಮೇ ದೇಹಸೌಖ್ಯಮ್ ॥10॥
Meaning
ಅಥ ಶರದಮ್-ಉಪೇತಾಂ - then spring season approaching; ತಾಂ ಭವತ್-ಭಕ್ತ-ಚೇತಃ- - that (season) (like) Thy devotees' mind; ವಿಮಲ-ಸಲಿಲ-ಪೂರಾಂ - with pure water full; ಮಾನಯನ್ ಕಾನನೇಷು - enjoying in the forests; ತೃಣಮ್-ಅಮಲ-ವನಾನ್ತೇ - grass in the pleasant forest; ಚಾರು ಸಞ್ಚಾರಯನ್ ಗಾಃ - happily grazing the cows; ಪವನಪುರಪತೇ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ತ್ವಂ ದೇಹಿ - Thou bestow; ಮೇ ದೇಹ-ಸೌಖ್ಯಮ್ - unto me good health;
Translation
Then the spring season approached. In that season the streams were full of pure water, like the pure minds of Thy devotees. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Thou spent such a season enjoying in the forests and happily grazing grass to the cattle in the pleasant forests. O Thou! bestow unto me good health.
