ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಸ್ಥಿತಸ್ಸ ಕಮಲೋದ್ಭವಸ್ತವ ಹಿ ನಾಭಿಪಙ್ಕೇರುಹೇ
ಕುತಃ ಸ್ವಿದಿದಮಮ್ಬುಧಾವುದಿತಮಿತ್ಯನಾಲೋಕಯನ್ ।
ತದೀಕ್ಷಣಕುತೂಹಲಾತ್ ಪ್ರತಿದಿಶಂ ವಿವೃತ್ತಾನನ-
ಶ್ಚತುರ್ವದನತಾಮಗಾದ್ವಿಕಸದಷ್ಟದೃಷ್ಟ್ಯಮ್ಬುಜಾಮ್ ॥1॥

Meaning
ಸ್ಥಿತಃ - - seated; ಸ ಕಮಲೋದ್ಭವಃ - - he, the lotus born (Brahmaa); ತವ ಹಿ ನಾಭಿಪಙ್ಕೇರುಹೇ - in Thy navel lotus itself; ಕುತಃ ಸ್ವಿತ್- - from where indeed; ಇದಮ್-ಅಮ್ಬುಧೌ-ಉದಿತಮ್- - this (lotus) in the ocean has come up; ಇತಿ-ಅನಾಲೋಕಯನ್ - this not comprehending; ತತ್-ಈಕ್ಷಣ-ಕುತೂಹಲಾತ್ - out of eagerness to find the source; ಪ್ರತಿದಿಶಂ ವಿವೃತ್ತ-ಆನನಃ - - in all directions (he) turned his face; ಚತುಃ-ವದನತಾಮ್-ಅಗಾತ್- - (and thus) became endowed with four faces; ವಿಕಸತ್-ಅಷ್ಟ-ದೃಷ್ಟಿ-ಅಮ್ಬುಜಾಮ್ - with eight eyes (beautiful) like full blown lotuses;

Translation
Brahma sitting on the full blown lotus emerging from Thy lotus-like navel, and wondering about its origin looked all around by turning his face in all the directions. He was thus endowed with four faces and lotus-like eight beautiful eyes.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಮಹಾರ್ಣವವಿಘೂರ್ಣಿತಂ ಕಮಲಮೇವ ತತ್ಕೇವಲಂ
ವಿಲೋಕ್ಯ ತದುಪಾಶ್ರಯಂ ತವ ತನುಂ ತು ನಾಲೋಕಯನ್ ।
ಕ ಏಷ ಕಮಲೋದರೇ ಮಹತಿ ನಿಸ್ಸಹಾಯೋ ಹ್ಯಹಂ
ಕುತಃ ಸ್ವಿದಿದಮ್ಬುಜಂ ಸಮಜನೀತಿ ಚಿನ್ತಾಮಗಾತ್ ॥2॥

Meaning
ಮಹಾರ್ಣವ-ವಿಘೂರ್ಣಿತಂ - tossing in the vast ocean; ಕಮಲಮ್-ಏವ ತತ್-ಕೇವಲಂ - that lotus all alone; ವಿಲೋಕ್ಯ ತತ್-ಉಪಾಶ್ರಯಂ - seeing its support (the stem); ತವ ತನುಂ ತು ನ-ಆಲೋಕಯನ್ - and not seeing Thy body; ಕಃ ಏಷ - who is this (me); ಕಮಲ-ಉದರೇ ಮಹತಿ - inside this huge lotus; ನಿಸ್ಸಹಾಯಃ ಹಿ-ಅಹಂ - without any support (helpless) am I; ಕುತಃ ಸ್ವಿತ್- - from where; ಇದಮ್-ಅಮ್ಬುಜಂ ಸಮಜನಿ- - did this lotus originate; ಇತಿ ಚಿನ್ತಾಮ್-ಅಗಾತ್ - (he) was immersed in such thoughts;

Translation
Brahmaa found himself to be all alone in the huge lotus which was tossing about in the vast ocean of causal waters. He saw the stem supporting the lotus but was unable to see Thy body and wondered as to who he was helpless and all alone and also of the source of the lotus.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಅಮುಷ್ಯ ಹಿ ಸರೋರುಹಃ ಕಿಮಪಿ ಕಾರಣಂ ಸಮ್ಭ್ವೇ-
ದಿತಿ ಸ್ಮ ಕೃತನಿಶ್ಚಯಸ್ಸ ಖಲು ನಾಲರನ್ಧ್ರಾಧ್ವನಾ ।
ಸ್ವಯೋಗಬಲವಿದ್ಯಯಾ ಸಮವರೂಢವಾನ್ ಪ್ರೌಢಧೀ -
ಸ್ತ್ವದೀಯಮತಿಮೋಹನಂ ನ ತು ಕಲೇವರಂ ದೃಷ್ಟವಾನ್ ॥3॥

Meaning
ಅಮುಷ್ಯ ಹಿ ಸರೋರುಹಃ - certainly for this lotus; ಕಿಮ್-ಅಪಿ ಕಾರಣಂ ಸಮ್ಭವೇತ್- - there must be some cause (place) of origin; ಇತಿ ಸ್ಮ ಕೃತನಿಶ್ಚಯಃ - - thus having concluded; ಸ ಖಲು - he (Brahmaa) indeed; ನಾಲ-ರನ್ಧ್ರ-ಅಧ್ವನಾ - through the hollow in the lotus stem; ಸ್ವ-ಯೋಗ-ಬಲ-ವಿಧ್ಯಯಾ - with the power of his yogic knowledge; ಸ್ಮವರೂಢವಾನ್ - descended; ಪ್ರೌಢಧೀಃ - - he of mighty intellect; ತ್ವದೀಯಮ್-ಅತಿ-ಮೋಹನಂ - Thy this most enchanting; ನ ತು ಕಲೇವರಂ ದೃಷ್ಟವಾನ್ - form but could not perceive;

Translation
Brahmaa who was of mighty intellect, decided that there must definitely be some source of this lotus. Using his yogic power he descended through the hollow of the lotus stem to look for the cause. He, however could not not see Thy most enchanting form.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ತತಃ ಸಕಲನಾಲಿಕಾವಿವರಮಾರ್ಗಗೋ ಮಾರ್ಗಯನ್
ಪ್ರಯಸ್ಯ ಶತವತ್ಸರಂ ಕಿಮಪಿ ನೈವ ಸನ್ದೃಷ್ಟವಾನ್ ।
ನಿವೃತ್ಯ ಕಮಲೋದರೇ ಸುಖನಿಷಣ್ಣ ಏಕಾಗ್ರಧೀಃ
ಸಮಾಧಿಬಲಮಾದಧೇ ಭವದನುಗ್ರಹೈಕಾಗ್ರಹೀ ॥4॥

Meaning
ತತಃ - then; ಸಕಲ-ನಾಲಿಕಾ-ವಿವರ-ಮಾರ್ಗಗಃ - going through all the orifices of the stem; ಮಾರ್ಗಯನ್ - searching; ಪ್ರಯಸ್ಯ ಶತವತ್ಸರಂ - striving for hundred divine years; ಕಿಮ್-ಅಪಿ ನ-ಏವ ಸನ್ದೃಷ್ಟವಾನ್ - could not see anything at all; ನಿವೃತ್ಯ ಕಮಲ-ಉದರೇ - (he then) returned inside the lotus; ಸುಖನಿಷಣ್ಣ ಏಕಾಗ್ರಧೀಃ - sitting comfortably with one pointed intellect; ಸಮಾಧಿ-ಬಲಮ್-ಆದಧೇ - resorted to deep samaadhi; ಭವತ್-ಅನುಗ್ರಹ-ಏಕ-ಆಗ್ರಹೀ - solely desirous of Thy grace;

Translation
Brahmaa spent a hundred divine years strenuously searching through all the orifices of the lotus stem but he could not see anything. He returned to the lotus and sat calmly with one pointed concentration and resorted to deep samaadhi solely desirous of Thy grace.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಶತೇನ ಪರಿವತ್ಸರೈರ್ದೃಢಸಮಾಧಿಬನ್ಧೋಲ್ಲಸತ್-
ಪ್ರಬೋಧವಿಶದೀಕೃತಃ ಸ ಖಲು ಪದ್ಮಿನೀಸಮ್ಭವಃ ।
ಅದೃಷ್ಟಚರಮದ್ಭುತಂ ತವ ಹಿ ರೂಪಮನ್ತರ್ದೃಶಾ
ವ್ಯಚಷ್ಟ ಪರಿತುಷ್ಟಧೀರ್ಭುಜಗಭೋಗಭಾಗಾಶ್ರಯಮ್ ॥5॥

Meaning
ಶತೇನ ಪರಿವತ್ಸರೈಃ - - for a hundred (divine) years; ದೃಢ-ಸಮಾಧಿ-ಬನ್ಧ-ಉಲ್ಲಸತ್- - of practising of undisturbed samaadhi, resulted; ಪ್ರಬೋಧ-ವಿಶದೀಕೃತಃ - (and ) the knowledge dawned (in him); ಸ ಖಲು ಪದ್ಮಿನೀಸಮ್ಭವಃ - he, indeed, the lotus born (Brahmaa); ಅದೃಷ್ಟಚರಮ್-ಅದ್ಭುತಂ - not seen by humans, the wonderful; ತವ ಹಿ ರೂಪಮ್- - Thy divine form; ಅನ್ತರ್ದೃಶಾ ವ್ಯಚಷ್ಟ - in his inner vision saw; ಪರಿತುಷ್ಟಧೀಃ- - (with) heart full of contentment; ಭುಜಗ-ಭೋಗಭಾಗ-ಆಶ್ರಯಂ - on a part of the body of the great serpent, resting;

Translation
The lotus born Brahmaa was absorbed in undisturbed samaadhi for a hundred divine years.The knowledge of Reality then dawned on him. He then had the vision of Thy wonderful form which humans cannot easily see, resting on a part of Aadishesha's (the great serpent's), body. So he was full of happiness and contentment.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಕಿರೀಟಮುಕುಟೋಲ್ಲಸತ್ಕಟಕಹಾರಕೇಯೂರಯುಙ್-
ಮಣಿಸ್ಫುರಿತಮೇಖಲಂ ಸುಪರಿವೀತಪೀತಾಮ್ಬರಮ್ ।
ಕಲಾಯಕುಸುಮಪ್ರಭಂ ಗಲತಲೋಲ್ಲಸತ್ಕೌಸ್ತುಭಂ
ವಪುಸ್ತದಯಿ ಭಾವಯೇ ಕಮಲಜನ್ಮೇ ದರ್ಶಿತಮ್ ॥6॥

Meaning
ಕಿರೀಟ-ಮುಕುಟ-ಉಲ್ಲಸತ್- - a crown,with a diadem shining; ಕಟಕ-ಹಾರ-ಕೇಯೂರ-ಯುಕ್- - with bracelets, necklaces and shoulder ornaments; ಮಣಿ-ಸ್ಫುರಿತ-ಮೇಖಲಂ - with gems studded waist band; ಸುಪರಿವೀತ-ಪೀತಾಮ್ಬರಮ್ - with beautifully worn yellow silk cloth; ಕಲಾಯ-ಕುಸುಮ-ಪ್ರಭಂ - like the Kalaaya flower (blue lily) brilliant (blue complexion); ಗಲ-ತಲ-ಉಲ್ಲಸತ್-ಕೌಸ್ತುಭಂ - (with) around the neck the shining Kaustubha jewel; ವಪುಃ -ತತ್-ಅಯಿ ಭಾವಯೇ - on that form of Thine, O Lord! I meditate; ಕಮಲಜನ್ಮನೇ ದರ್ಶಿತಂ - to the lotus born (Brahmaa) which was revealed;

Translation
O Lord! That divine form of Thine with the golden crown, with a brilliant blue complexion like the beautiful Kalaaya flower (blue lily), with the shining Kaustubh jewel adorning Thy neck, with shoulder ornaments and bracelets , and with studded golden waistband and beautifully wearing a yellow silk garment (Peetaambara). This Thy form was revealed to the lotus born Brahmaa , on which I meditate.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಶ್ರುತಿಪ್ರಕರದರ್ಶಿತಪ್ರಚುರವೈಭವ ಶ್ರೀಪತೇ
ಹರೇ ಜಯ ಜಯ ಪ್ರಭೋ ಪದಮುಪೈಷಿ ದಿಷ್ಟ್ಯಾ ದೃಶೋಃ ।
ಕುರುಷ್ವ ಧಿಯಮಾಶು ಮೇ ಭುವನನಿರ್ಮಿತೌ ಕರ್ಮಠಾ-
ಮಿತಿ ದ್ರುಹಿಣವರ್ಣಿತಸ್ವಗುಣಬಂಹಿಮಾ ಪಾಹಿ ಮಾಮ್ ॥7॥

Meaning
ಶ್ರುತಿ-ಪ್ರಕರ- - in several Vedic texts; ದರ್ಶಿತ-ಪ್ರಚುರ-ವೈಭವ - declared, the abundant glory; ಶ್ರೀಪತೇ - O Consort of Laxmi!; ಹರೇ - O Destroyer of all sorrows; ಜಯ ಜಯ ಪ್ರಭೋ - Hail O Lord!; ಪದಮ್-ಉಪೈಷಿ ದಿಷ್ಟ್ಯಾ ದೃಶೋಃ - Thou have appeared, by good fortune, before my eyes; ಕುರುಷ್ವ - make; ಧಿಯಮ್-ಆಶು ಮೇ - my intellect, soon; ಭುವನ-ನಿರ್ಮಿತೌ ಕರ್ಮಠಾಮ್- - in the creation of the world, capable; ಇತಿ ದ್ರುಹಿಣ-ವರ್ಣಿತ- - thus, described by Brahmaa; ಸ್ವಗುಣ-ಬಂಹಿಮಾ - (Thou possessing) countless excellences; ಪಾಹಿ ಮಾಮ್ - please protect me;

Translation
"O Consort of Laxmi! Thy abundant glories have been sung of in the Vedaas. Hail O all-powerful Lord and remover of sorrows! It is my good fortune that Thou have revealed Thy sacred form to me. O Lord! Make my intelligence capable of creating the world." Thou, whose innumerable excellences were thus praised by Brahma, please be merciful to protect me.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಲಭಸ್ವ ಭುವನತ್ರಯೀರಚನದಕ್ಷತಾಮಕ್ಷತಾಂ
ಗೃಹಾಣ ಮದನುಗ್ರಹಂ ಕುರು ತಪಶ್ಚ ಭೂಯೋ ವಿಧೇ ।
ಭವತ್ವಖಿಲಸಾಧನೀ ಮಯಿ ಚ ಭಕ್ತಿರತ್ಯುತ್ಕಟೇ-
ತ್ಯುದೀರ್ಯ ಗಿರಮಾದಧಾ ಮುದಿತಚೇತಸಂ ವೇಧಸಮ್ ॥8॥

Meaning
ಲಭಸ್ವ - may you attain; ಭುವನತ್ರಯೀ-ರಚನ-ದಕ್ಷತಾಮ್-ಅಕ್ಷತಾಂ - in creating the three worlds, expertise unending; ಗೃಹಾಣ ಮತ್-ಅನುಗ್ರಹಂ - receive My blessings; ಕುರು ತಪಃ -ಚ ಭೂಯಃ -ವಿಧೇ - and do Tapa (penance) again O Brahmaa; ಭವತು-ಅಖಿಲ-ಸಾಧನೀ - may that accomplish everything; ಮಯಿ ಚ ಭಕ್ತಿಃ -ಅತಿ-ಉತ್ಕಟಾ- - and intense devotion to me; ಇತಿ-ಉದೀರ್ಯ ಗಿರಮ್- - saying these words; ಆದಧಾ ಮುದಿತ-ಚೇತಸಂ ವಿಧಸಮ್ - rendered a happy mind to Brahmaa;

Translation
O Brahmaa, may you be endowed with unending capability and expertise in the creation of the three worlds. May your devotion excel. Do penance again by which you will accomplish everything.' So saying Thou made Brahmaa's mind immensely happy.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ಶತಂ ಕೃತತಪಾಸ್ತತಃ ಸ ಖಲು ದಿವ್ಯಸಂವತ್ಸರಾ-
ನವಾಪ್ಯ ಚ ತಪೋಬಲಂ ಮತಿಬಲಂ ಚ ಪೂರ್ವಾಧಿಕಮ್ ।
ಉದೀಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಕಿಲ ಕಮ್ಪಿತಂ ಪಯಸಿ ಪಙ್ಕಜಂ ವಾಯುನಾ
ಭವದ್ಬಲವಿಜೃಮ್ಭಿತಃ ಪವನಪಾಥಸೀ ಪೀತವಾನ್ ॥9॥

Meaning
ಶತಂ ಕೃತ-ತಪಾಃ-ತತಃ - for a hundred years having done penance, then; ಸ ಖಲು ದಿವ್ಯ-ಸಂವತ್ಸರಾನ್- - he (Brahmaa) indeed for hundred divine years; ಅವಾಪ್ಯ ಚ ತಪೋಬಲಂ ಮತಿಬಲಂ - attained spiritual powers and mental powers; ಚ ಪೂರ್ವ-ಅಧಿಕಮ್ - more than ever before; ಉದೀಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಕಿಲ - and seeing indeed; ಕಮ್ಪಿತಂ ಪಯಸಿ ಪಙ್ಕಜಂ - the lotus swaying in the waters; ವಾಯುನಾ - by the wind; ಭವತ್-ಬಲ ವಿಜೃಮ್ಭಿತಃ - by Thy prowess strengthened; ಪವನಪಾಥಸೀ ಪೀತವಾನ್ - the wind and the waters (he) drank up;

Translation
Brahmaa then did penance for another hundred divine years, by which he attained spiritual and mental powers even more than before. He saw the lotus on which he was seated, swaying in the causal waters. He, with the powers given by Thee, drank the wind and the waters.

ಶ್ಲೋಕಃ
ತವೈವ ಕೃಪಯಾ ಪುನಸ್ಸರಸಿಜೇನ ತೇನೈವ ಸಃ
ಪ್ರಕಲ್ಪ್ಯ ಭುವನತ್ರಯೀಂ ಪ್ರವವೃತೇ ಪ್ರಜಾನಿರ್ಮಿತೌ ।
ತಥಾವಿಧಕೃಪಾಭರೋ ಗುರುಮರುತ್ಪುರಾಧೀಶ್ವರ
ತ್ವಮಾಶು ಪರಿಪಾಹಿ ಮಾಂ ಗುರುದಯೋಕ್ಷಿತೈರೀಕ್ಷಿತೈಃ ॥10॥

Meaning
ತವ-ಏವ ಕೃಪಯಾ - by Thy grace alone; ಪುನಃ - - then; ಸರಸಿಜೇನ ತೇನ-ಏವ - out of that lotus itself; ಸಃ - Brahmaa; ಪ್ರಕಲ್ಪ್ಯ ಭುವನತ್ರಯೀಂ - created the three worlds; ಪ್ರವವೃತೇ ಪ್ರಜಾನಿರ್ಮಿತೌ - engaged himself in creating various species of beings; ತಥಾ-ವಿಧ-ಕೃಪಾಭರಃ - (O Thou!) who abound in such compassion; ಗುರುಮರುತ್ಪುರಾಧೀಶ್ವರ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ತ್ವಮ್-ಆಶು ಪರಿಪಾಹಿ ಮಾಂ - Thou soon protect me; ಗುರು-ದಯಾ-ಉಕ್ಷಿತಃ ಈಕ್ಷತೈಃ - great mercy overflowing Thy glances;

Translation
Brahmaa, then, by Thy grace created the three worlds out of that lotus itself and got engaged in creating the various species of beings. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Full of such compassion please cast Thy glance overflowing with great mercy on me and protect me soon.
