Meaning

Translation
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most confidential knowledge and realization, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence.
শ্লোকঃ
রাজবিদ্যা রাজগুহ্যং পবিত্রমিদমুত্তমম্ ।
প্রত্যক্ষাবগমং ধর্ম্যং সুসুখং কর্তুমব্যযম্ ॥ 2 ॥
Meaning
রাজ-বিদ্যা — the king of education; রাজ-গুহ্যম্ — the king of confidential knowledge; পবিত্রম্ — the purest; ইদম্ — this; উত্তমম্ — transcendental; প্রত্যক্ষ — by direct experience; অবগমম্ — understood; ধর্ম্যম্ — the principle of religion; সু-সুখম্ — very happy; কর্তুম্ — to execute; অব্যযম্ — everlasting.
Translation
This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.
শ্লোকঃ
অশ্রদ্দধানাঃ পুরুষা ধর্মস্যাস্য পরংতপ ।
অপ্রাপ্য মাং নিবর্তংতে মৃত্যুসংসারবর্ত্মনি ॥ 3 ॥
Meaning
অশ্রদ্দধানাঃ — those who are faithless; পুরুষাঃ — such persons; ধর্মস্য — toward the process of religion; অস্য — this; পরম্-তপ — O killer of the enemies; অপ্রাপ্য — without obtaining; মাম্ — Me; নিবর্তংতে — come back; মৃত্যু — of death; সংসার — in material existence; বর্ত্মনি — on the path.
Translation
Those who are not faithful in this devotional service cannot attain Me, O conqueror of enemies. Therefore they return to the path of birth and death in this material world.
শ্লোকঃ
মযা ততমিদং সর্বং জগদব্যক্তমূর্তিনা ।
মত্স্থানি সর্বভূতানি ন চাহং তেষ্ববস্থিতঃ ॥ 4 ॥
Meaning
মযা — by Me; ততম্ — pervaded; ইদম্ — this; সর্বম্ — all; জগত্ — cosmic manifestation; অব্যক্ত-মূর্তিনা — by the unmanifested form; মত্-স্থানি — in Me; সর্ব-ভূতানি — all living entities; ন — not; চ — also; অহম্ — I; তেষু — in them; অবস্থিতঃ — situated.
Translation
By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them.
শ্লোকঃ
ন চ মত্স্থানি ভূতানি পশ্য মে যোগমৈশ্বরম্ ।
ভূতভৃন্ন চ ভূতস্থো মমাত্মা ভূতভাবনঃ ॥ 5 ॥
Meaning

Translation
And yet everything that is created does not rest in Me. Behold My mystic opulence! Although I am the maintainer of all living entities and although I am everywhere, I am not a part of this cosmic manifestation, for My Self is the very source of creation.
শ্লোকঃ
যথাকাশস্থিতো নিত্যং বাযুঃ সর্বত্রগো মহান্ ।
তথা সর্বাণি ভূতানি মত্স্থানীত্যুপধারয ॥ 6 ॥
Meaning
যথা — just as; আকাশ-স্থিতঃ — situated in the sky; নিত্যম্ — always; বাযুঃ — the wind; সর্বত্র-গঃ — blowing everywhere; মহান্ — great; তথা — similarly; সর্বাণি ভূতানি — all created beings; মত্-স্থানি — situated in Me; ইতি — thus; উপধারয — try to understand.
Translation
Understand that as the mighty wind, blowing everywhere, rests always in the sky, all created beings rest in Me.

সর্বভূতানি কৌংতেয প্রকৃতিং যাংতি মামিকাম্ ।
কল্পক্ষযে পুনস্তানি কল্পাদৌ বিসৃজাম্যহম্ ॥ 7 ॥
Meaning

Translation
O son of Kuntī, at the end of the millennium all material manifestations enter into My nature, and at the beginning of another millennium, by My potency, I create them again.

প্রকৃতিং স্বামবষ্টভ্য বিসৃজামি পুনঃ পুনঃ ।
ভূতগ্রামমিমং কৃত্স্নমবশং প্রকৃতের্বশাত্ ॥ 8 ॥

Translation
The whole cosmic order is under Me. Under My will it is automatically manifested again and again, and under My will it is annihilated at the end.

ন চ মাং তানি কর্মাণি নিবধ্নংতি ধনংজয ।
উদাসীনবদাসীনমসক্তং তেষু কর্মসু ॥ 9 ॥
Meaning

Translation
O Dhanañjaya, all this work cannot bind Me. I am ever detached from all these material activities, seated as though neutral.

মযাধ্যক্ষেণ প্রকৃতিঃ সূযতে সচরাচরম্ ।
হেতুনানেন কৌংতেয জগদ্বিপরিবর্ততে ॥ 10 ॥
Meaning
মযা — by Me; অধ্যক্ষেণ — by superintendence; প্রকৃতিঃ — material nature; সূযতে — manifests; স — both; চর-অচরম্ — the moving and the nonmoving; হেতুনা — for the reason; অনেন — this; কৌংতেয — O son of Kuntī; জগত্ — the cosmic manifestation; বিপরিবর্ততে — is working.
Translation
This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kuntī, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again.
শ্লোকঃ
অবজানংতি মাং মূঢা মানুষীং তনুমাশ্রিতম্ ।
পরং ভাবমজানংতো মম ভূতমহেশ্বরম্ ॥ 11 ॥
Meaning
অবজানংতি — deride; মাম্ — Me; মূঢাঃ — foolish men; মানুষীম্ — in a human form; তনুম্ — a body; আশ্রিতম্ — assuming; পরম্ — transcendental; ভাবম্ — nature; অজানংতঃ — not knowing; মম — My; ভূত — of everything that be; মহা-ঈশ্বরম্ — the supreme proprietor.
Translation
Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature as the Supreme Lord of all that be.
শ্লোকঃ
মোঘাশা মোঘকর্মাণো মোঘজ্ঞানা বিচেতসঃ ।
রাক্ষসীমাসুরীং চৈব প্রকৃতিং মোহিনীং শ্রিতাঃ ॥ 12 ॥
Meaning
মোঘ-আশাঃ — baffled in their hopes; মোঘ-কর্মাণঃ — baffled in fruitive activities; মোঘ-জ্ঞানাঃ — baffled in knowledge; বিচেতসঃ — bewildered; রাক্ষসীম্ — demonic; আসুরীম্ — atheistic; চ — and; এব — certainly; প্রকৃতিম্ — nature; মোহিনীম্ — bewildering; শ্রিতাঃ — taking shelter of.
Translation
Those who are thus bewildered are attracted by demonic and atheistic views. In that deluded condition, their hopes for liberation, their fruitive activities, and their culture of knowledge are all defeated.

মহাত্মানস্তু মাং পার্থ দৈবীং প্রকৃতিমাশ্রিতাঃ ।
ভজংত্যনন্যমনসো জ্ঞাত্বা ভূতাদিমব্যযম্ ॥ 13 ॥
Meaning
মহা-আত্মানঃ — the great souls; তু — but; মাম্ — unto Me; পার্থ — O son of Prithā; দৈবীম্ — divine; প্রকৃতিম্ — nature; আশ্রিতাঃ — having taken shelter of; ভজংতি — render service; অনন্য-মনসঃ — without deviation of the mind; জ্ঞাত্বা — knowing; ভূত — of creation; আদিম্ — the origin; অব্যযম্ — inexhaustible.
Translation
O son of Prithā, those who are not deluded, the great souls, are under the protection of the divine nature. They are fully engaged in devotional service because they know Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, original and inexhaustible.
শ্লোকঃ
সততং কীর্তযংতো মাং যতংতশ্চ দৃঢব্রতাঃ ।
নমস্যংতশ্চ মাং ভক্ত্যআ নিত্যযুক্তা উপাসতে ॥ 14 ॥
Meaning

Translation
Always chanting My glories, endeavoring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship Me with devotion.

জ্ঞানযজ্ঞেন চাপ্যন্যে যজংতো মামুপাসতে ।
একত্বেন পৃথক্ত্বেন বহুধা বিশ্বতোমুখম্ ॥ 15 ॥
Meaning
জ্ঞান-যজ্ঞেন — by cultivation of knowledge; চ — also; অপি — certainly; অন্যে — others; যজংতঃ — sacrificing; মাম্ — Me; উপাসতে — worship; একত্বেন — in oneness; পৃথক্ত্বেন — in duality; বহুধা — in diversity; বিশ্বতঃ-মুখম্ — and in the universal form.
Translation
Others, who engage in sacrifice by the cultivation of knowledge, worship the Supreme Lord as the one without a second, as diverse in many, and in the universal form.

অহং ক্রতুরহং যজ্ঞঃ স্বধাহমহমৌষধম্ ।
মন্ত্রোঽহমহমেবাজ্যমহমগ্নইরহং হুতম্ ॥ 16 ॥
Meaning

বেদ্যং পবিত্রং ওংকার ঋক্ সাম যজুরেব চ ॥ 17 ॥

অমৃতং চৈব মৃত্যুশ্চ সদসচ্চআহমর্জুন ॥ 19 ॥

O Arjuna, I give heat, and I withhold and send forth the rain. I am immortality, and I am also death personified. Both spirit and matter are in Me.

Translation
Those who study the Vedas and drink the soma juice, seeking the heavenly planets, worship Me indirectly. Purified of sinful reactions, they take birth on the pious, heavenly planet of Indra, where they enjoy godly delights.

তে তং ভুক্ত্বা স্বর্গলোকং বিশালং
ক্ষীণে পুণ্যে মর্ত্যলোকং বিশংতি ।
এবং ত্রযীধর্মমনুপ্রপন্না
গতাগতং কামকামা লভংতে ॥ 21 ॥
Meaning

Translation
When they have thus enjoyed vast heavenly sense pleasure and the results of their pious activities are exhausted, they return to this mortal planet again. Thus those who seek sense enjoyment by adhering to the principles of the three Vedas achieve only repeated birth and death.

অনন্যাশ্চিংতযংতো মাং যে জনাঃ পর্যুপাসতে ।
তেষাং নিত্যাভিযুক্তানাং যোগক্ষেমং বহাম্যহম্ ॥ 22 ॥
Meaning
অনন্যাঃ — having no other object; চিংতযংতঃ — concentrating; মাম্ — on Me; যে — those who; জনাঃ — persons; পর্যুপাসতে — properly worship; তেষাম্ — of them; নিত্য — always; অভিযুক্তানাম্ — fixed in devotion; যোগ — requirements; ক্ষেমম্ — protection; বহামি — carry; অহম্ — I.
Translation
But those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form – to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have.

যেঽপ্যন্যদেবতাভক্তা যজংতে শ্রদ্ধযান্বিতাঃ ।
তেঽপি মামেব কৌংতেয যজংত্যবিধিপূর্বকম্ ॥ 23 ॥

Translation
Those who are devotees of other gods and who worship them with faith actually worship only Me, O son of Kuntī, but they do so in a wrong way.

অহং হি সর্বযজ্ঞানাং ভোক্তা চ প্রভুরেব চ ।
ন তু মামভিজানংতি তত্ত্বেনাতশ্চ্যবংতি তে ॥ 24 ॥
Meaning

Translation
I am the only enjoyer and master of all sacrifices. Therefore, those who do not recognize My true transcendental nature fall down.

যাংতি দেবব্রতা দেবান্পিতৄন্যাংতি পিতৃব্রতাঃ ।
ভূতানি যাংতি ভূতেজ্যা যাংতি মদ্যাজিনোঽপি মাম্ ॥ 25 ॥

Translation
Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods; those who worship the ancestors go to the ancestors; those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; and those who worship Me will live with Me.

পত্রং পুষ্পং ফলং তোযং যো মে ভক্ত্যআ প্রযচ্ছতি ।
তদহং ভক্ত্যউপহৃতমশ্নআমি প্রযতাত্মনঃ ॥ 26 ॥

Translation
If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I will accept it.

যত্করোষি যদশ্নআসি যজ্জউহোষি দদাসি যত্ ।
যত্তপস্যসি কৌংতেয তত্কুরুষ্ব মদর্পণম্ ॥ 27 ॥

Translation
Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform – do that, O son of Kuntī, as an offering to Me.

শউভাশউভফলৈরেবং মোক্ষ্যসে কর্মবংধনৈঃ ।
সন্ন্যাসযোগযুক্তাত্মা বিমুক্তো মামুপৈষ্যসি ॥ 28 ॥
Meaning
শুভ — from auspicious; অশুভ — and inauspicious; ফলৈঃ — results; এবম্ — thus; মোক্ষ্যসে — you will become free; কর্ম — of work; বংধনৈঃ — from the bondage; সন্ন্যাস — of renunciation; যোগ — the yoga; যুক্ত-আত্মা — having the mind firmly set on; বিমুক্তঃ — liberated; মাম্ — to Me; উপৈষ্যসি — you will attain.
Translation
In this way you will be freed from bondage to work and its auspicious and inauspicious results. With your mind fixed on Me in this principle of renunciation, you will be liberated and come to Me.

সমোঽহং সর্বভূতেষু ন মে দ্বেষ্যোঽস্তি ন প্রিযঃ ।
যে ভজংতি তু মাং ভক্ত্যআ মযি তে তেষু চাপ্যহম্ ॥ 29 ॥

Translation
I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him.

অপি চেত্সুদুরাচারো ভজতে মামনন্যভাক্ ।
সাধুরেব স মংতব্যঃ সম্যগ্ব্যবসিতো হি সঃ ॥ 30 ॥

Even if one commits the most abominable action, if he is engaged in devotional service he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated in his determination.

ক্ষিপ্রং ভবতি ধর্মাত্মা শশ্বচ্ছাংতিং নিগচ্ছতি ।
কৌংতেয প্রতিজানীহি ন মে ভক্তঃ প্রণশ্যতি ॥ 31 ॥
Meaning
ক্ষিপ্রম্ — very soon; ভবতি — becomes; ধর্ম-আত্মা — righteous; শশ্বত্-শাংতিম্ — lasting peace; নিগচ্চতি — attains; কৌংতেয — O son of Kuntī; প্রতিজানীহি — declare; ন — never; মে — My; ভক্তঃ — devotee; প্রণশ্যতি — perishes.
Translation
He quickly becomes righteous and attains lasting peace. O son of Kuntī, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes.
শ্লোকঃ
মাং হি পার্থ ব্যপাশ্রিত্য যেঽপি স্যুঃ পাপযোনযঃ ।
স্ত্রিযো বৈশ্যাস্তথা শঊদ্রাস্তেঽপি যাংতি পরাং গতিম্ ॥ 32 ॥
Meaning
মাম্ — of Me; হি — certainly; পার্থ — O son of Prithā; ব্যপাশ্রিত্য — particularly taking shelter; যে — those who; অপি — also; স্যুঃ — are; পাপ-যোনযঃ — born of a lower family; স্ত্রিযঃ — women; বৈশ্যাঃ — mercantile people; তথা — also; শূদ্রাঃ — lower-class men; তে অপি — even they; যাংতি — go; পরাম্ — to the supreme; গতিম্ — destination.
Translation
O son of Prithā, those who take shelter in Me, though they be of lower birth – women, vaiśyas [merchants] and śūdras [workers] – can attain the supreme destination.
শ্লোকঃ
কিং পুনর্ব্রাহ্মণাঃ পুণ্যা ভক্তা রাজর্ষযস্তথা ।
অনিত্যমসুখং লোকমিমং প্রাপ্য ভজস্ব মাম্ ॥ 33 ॥
Meaning
কিম্ — how much; পুনঃ — again; ব্রাহ্মণাঃ — brāhmaṇas; পুণ্যাঃ — righteous; ভক্তাঃ — devotees; রাজ-ঋষযঃ — saintly kings; তথা — also; অনিত্যম্ — temporary; অসুখম্ — full of miseries; লোকম্ — planet; ইমম্ — this; প্রাপ্য — gaining; ভজস্ব — be engaged in loving service; মাম্ — unto Me.
Translation
How much more this is so of the righteous brāhmaṇas, the devotees and the saintly kings. Therefore, having come to this temporary, miserable world, engage in loving service unto Me.
শ্লোকঃ
মন্মনা ভব মদ্ভক্তো মদ্যাজী মাং নমস্কুরু ।
মামেবৈষ্যসি যুক্ত্বৈবমাত্মানং মত্পরাযণঃ ॥ 34 ॥
Meaning
মত্-মনাঃ — always thinking of Me; ভব — become; মত্ — My; ভক্তঃ — devotee; মত্ — My; যাজী — worshiper; মাম্ — unto Me; নমস্-কুরু — offer obeisances; মাম্ — unto Me; এব — completely; এষ্যসি — you will come; যুক্ত্বা — being absorbed; এবম্ — thus; আত্মানম্ — your soul; মত্-পরাযণঃ — devoted to Me.
Translation
Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.
