శ్లోకః
తదను నందమమందశుభాస్పదం నృపపురీం కరదానకృతే గతం।
సమవలోక్య జగాద భవత్పితా విదితకంససహాయజనోద్యమః ॥1॥
Meaning
తదను నందం- - after that to Nanda; అమంద-శుభ-ఆస్పదం - (who is) of non dimmed virtues the abode; నృప-పురీం - to the king's city; కర-దాన-కృతే గతం - to pay his tributes (taxes), who had gone; సమవలోక్య - seeing (meeting); జగాద భవత్-పితా - said (to Nanda), Thy father (Vasudeva); విదిత-కంస- - who knew of Kansa's; సహాయజన-ఉద్యమః - and Kansa's supporters' activities;
Translation
Thereafter, Nanda (who is the abode of undiminished virtues), went to the king's city to pay his tributes (taxes). On meeting him, Thy father Vasudeva who knew of the activities of Kansa and his supporters, told him that.
శ్లోకః
అయి సఖే తవ బాలకజన్మ మాం సుఖయతేఽద్య నిజాత్మజజన్మవత్ ।
ఇతి భవత్పితృతాం వ్రజనాయకే సమధిరోప్య శశంస తమాదరాత్ ॥2॥
Meaning
అయి సఖే - O friend!; తవ బాలక జన్మ - to you a son's birth; మాం-సుఖయతే-అద్య - gives me pleasure now; నిజ-ఆత్మజ-జన్మవత్ - my own son's birth like; ఇతి భవత్-పితృతాం - thus Thy fatherhood; వ్రజనాయకే సమధిరోప్య - to the cowherd chief, (he cleverly) attributed; శశంస తం-ఆదరాత్ - and praised him with affection;
Translation
"O Friend! The birth of a son to you gives me pleasure as if a son were born to myself." Thus he cleverly attributed Thy fatherhood on Nanda, and praised him with affection.
శ్లోకః
ఇహ చ సంత్యనిమిత్తశతాని తే కటకసీమ్ని తతో లఘు గమ్యతామ్ ।
ఇతి చ తద్వచసా వ్రజనాయకో భవదపాయభియా ద్రుతమాయయౌ ॥3॥
Meaning
ఇహ చ సంతి- - and here there are; అనిమిత్త-శతాని - bad omens in hundreds; తే కటక-సీమ్ని - at your residence; తతః లఘు గమ్యతాం - therefore soon (you) should go; ఇతి చ తత్-వచసా - and thus, by his (Vaudeva's) words; వ్రజనాయకః - the cowherd chieftain (Nandagopa); భవత్-అపాయ-భియా - to Thee danger apprehending; ద్రుతం-ఆయయౌ - quickly returned;
Translation
"Here there are bad omens in hundreds and soon at your residence also it will not be safe, so you should return soon". Thus by Vasudeva's words, apprehending danger to Thee, Nanda quickly returned.
శ్లోకః
అవసరే ఖలు తత్ర చ కాచన వ్రజపదే మధురాకృతిరంగనా ।
తరలషట్పదలాలితకుంతలా కపటపోతక తే నికటం గతా ॥4॥
Meaning
అవసరే ఖలు తత్ర చ - at that time, indeed, and there; కాచన వ్రజపదే - some (female) in Gokula; మధుర-ఆకృతిః-అంగనా - beautiful looking woman; తరల-షట్పద- - (with) hovering bees; లాలిత-కుంతలా - around (her) locks of hair (due to the sweet smell); కపట-పోతక - (O Thou) in the guise of a child!; తే నికటం గతా - went near Thee;
Translation
Just then there in Gokula, some beautiful looking woman with honey bees hovering around the sweet smelling flowers in her hair locks, entered. O Thou! In the guise of a child, she approached Thee.
శ్లోకః
సపది సా హృతబాలకచేతనా నిశిచరాన్వయజా కిల పూతనా ।
వ్రజవధూష్విహ కేయమితి క్షణం విమృశతీషు భవంతముపాదదే ॥5॥
Meaning
సపది సా - quickly she; హృత-బాలక-చేతనా - who had taken the children' lives; నిశిచర-అన్వయ-జా - of demon clan born; కిల పూతనా - indeed Pootanaa; వ్రజ-వధూషు-ఇహ - among the Vraja women here; కా-ఇయం-ఇతి - who is this, thus; క్షణం విమృశతీషు - for a moment wondering; భవంతం-ఉపాదదే - Thee lifted up (in her arms);
Translation
Quickly she, Pootanaa, born in the clan of demons, who had taken the lives of many children, lifted Thee up, even as the Vraja women were for a second wondering as to who she was.
శ్లోకః
లలితభావవిలాసహృతాత్మభిర్యువతిభిః ప్రతిరోద్ధుమపారితా ।
స్తనమసౌ భవనాంతనిషేదుషీ ప్రదదుషీ భవతే కపటాత్మనే ॥5॥
Meaning
లలిత-భావ-విలాస- - by her charming appearance and graceful movements; హృత-ఆత్మభిః-యువతిభిః - with captivated minds, the young women; ప్రతిరోద్ధుం-అపారితా - to deter (stop) not being able; స్తనం-అసౌ - her breasts this (Pootanaa); భవన-అంత-నిషేదుషీ - inside the house sitting; ప్రదదుషీ భవతే - gave (her breasts) to Thee; కపట-ఆత్మనే - the illusive child;
Translation
Her charming appearance and graceful movements captivated the minds of the Gopis who were unable to stop her from making advances. So this Pootanaa took her seat inside the house as she applied Thee, the illusive child, to her breasts.
శ్లోకః
సమధిరుహ్య తదంకమశంకితస్త్వమథ బాలకలోపనరోషితః ।
మహదివామ్రఫలం కుచమండలం ప్రతిచుచూషిథ దుర్విషదూషితమ్ ॥7॥
Meaning
సమధిరుహ్య తత్-అంకం- - climbing in her lap; అశంకితః-త్వం-అథ - unhesitatingly Thou then; బాలక-లోపన-రోషితః - by the children' killing angered; మహత్-ఇవ-ఆమ్ర-ఫలం - huge, as if it were a mango fruit; కుచ-మండలం ప్రతి-చుచూషిథ - the breast, sucked well; దుర్విష-దూషితం - with strong poison smeared;
Translation
Thou who were angered by her killing of the children, unhesitatingly climbed in her lap and sucked well her poison smeared breasts as if it were a huge mango fruit.
శ్లోకః
అసుభిరేవ సమం ధయతి త్వయి స్తనమసౌ స్తనితోపమనిస్వనా ।
నిరపతద్భయదాయి నిజం వపుః ప్రతిగతా ప్రవిసార్య భుజావుభౌ ॥8॥
Meaning
అసుభిః-ఏవ సమం - her life breath along with; ధయతి త్వయి స్తనం- - sucking (when) Thou were the breast; అసౌ స్తనిత-ఉపమ-నిస్వనా - this Pootanaa, with thunder like noise; నిరపతత్- - fell down; భయదాయి నిజం వపుః - ferocious her own body; ప్రతిగతా - reverting to; ప్రవిసార్య భుజౌ-ఉభౌ - out stretching both the hands;
Translation
Thou sucked the breast along with her life force. This Pootanaa fell down with a thunder like noise reverting to her natural ferocious body with both hands stretching out.
శ్లోకః
భయదఘోషణభీషణవిగ్రహశ్రవణదర్శనమోహితవల్లవే ।
వ్రజపదే తదురఃస్థలఖేలనం నను భవంతమగృహ్ణత గోపికాః ॥9॥
Meaning
భయద-ఘోషణ- - the terrifying sound; భీషణ-విగ్రహ- - and the frightful form; శ్రవణ-దర్శన- - hearing and seeing; మోహిత-వల్లవే - (which) stunned the gopas; వ్రజపదే - and (the whole of) Gokul; తత్-ఉదరః-స్థల- - on her chest; ఖేలనం నను - playing indeed; భవంతం-అగృహ్ణత - Thee picked up; గోపికాః - the Gopis;
Translation
The whole of Gokul stood stunned hearing the terrifying sound and seeing the frightful form. The Gopis picked Thee up even as Thou were playing on the chest of the dead demoness.
శ్లోకః
భువనమంగలనామభిరేవ తే యువతిభిర్బహుధా కృతరక్షణః ।
త్వమయి వాతనికేతననాథ మామగదయన్ కురు తావకసేవకమ్ ॥10॥
Meaning
భువన-మంగల- - O Thou who confers auspiciousness on the world!; నామభిః-ఏవ తే - by Thy name alone; యువతిభిః-బహుధా - by the young women, in various ways; కృతరక్షణః త్వం-అయి - Thou were protected, O Thou!; వాతనికేతననాథ - Lord of Guruvaayur!; మాం-అగదయన్ - making me devoid of ailments; కురు తావక-సేవకం - make me Thy devotee;
Translation
O Thou! Who confers auspiciousness on to the world, the young women protected Thee in various ways with chanting Thy names alone. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Making me devoid of my ailments, make me Thy devotee.
