ତରଲମଧୁକୃତ୍ ଵୃଂଦେ ଵୃଂଦାଵନେଽଥ ମନୋହରେ
ପଶୁପଶିଶୁଭିଃ ସାକଂ ଵତ୍ସାନୁପାଲନଲୋଲୁପଃ ।
ହଲଧରସଖୋ ଦେଵ ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ ଵିଚେରିଥ ଧାରୟନ୍
ଗଵଲମୁରଲୀଵେତ୍ରଂ ନେତ୍ରାଭିରାମତନୁଦ୍ୟୁତିଃ ॥1॥
Meaning
ତରଲ-ମଧୁକୃତ୍-ଵୃଂଦେ - with fleeting honey bee swarms; ଵୃଂଦାଵନେ-ଅଥ - in Vrindaavana, then; ମନୋହରେ - the beautiful one; ପଶୁପ-ଶିଶୁଭିଃ ସାକଂ - with the cowherd boys; ଵତ୍ସ-ଅନୁପାଲନ-ଲୋଲୁପଃ - in tending the calves engrossed; ହଲଧର-ସଖଃ - accompanied by Haladhara; ଦେଵ ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ - O Lord! Consort of Laxmi!; ଵିଚେରିଥ ଧାରୟନ୍ - (Thou) moved about carrying; ଗଵଲ-ମୁରଲୀ-ଵେତ୍ରଂ - a horn flute and cane; ନେତ୍ର-ଅଭିରାମ-ତନୁ-ଦ୍ୟୁତିଃ - pleasing to the eyes (with Thy) radiant form;
Translation
In the beautiful Vrindaavana swarms of honey bees would fleet around. There, O Auspicious Lord! Consort of Laxmi! Accompanied by Haladhara and other cowherd boys, Thou moved about with Thy radiant form pleasing to the eyes. Keen on tending the cows, Thou carried a horn, flute and a cane.

ଵିହିତଜଗତୀରକ୍ଷଂ ଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀକରାଂବୁଜଲାଲିତଂ
ଦଦତି ଚରଣଦ୍ଵଂଦ୍ଵଂ ଵୃଂଦାଵନେ ତ୍ଵୟି ପାଵନେ ।
କିମିଵ ନ ବଭୌ ସଂପତ୍ସଂପୂରିତଂ ତରୁଵଲ୍ଲରୀ-
ସଲିଲଧରଣୀଗୋତ୍ରକ୍ଷେତ୍ରାଦିକଂ କମଲାପତେ ॥2॥
Meaning
ଵିହିତ-ଜଗତୀ-ରକ୍ଷଂ - infused with the protection of the world; ଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀ-କର-ଅଂବୁଜ-ଲାଲିତଂ - by Laxmi's lotus like hands caressed; ଦଦତି ଚରଣ-ଦ୍ଵଂଦ୍ଵମ୍ - (when Thou) places (Thy) two feet; ଵୃଂଦାଵନେ ତ୍ଵୟି ପାଵନେ - in Vrindaavana, by Thee, in the holy (Vrindaavana); କିମ୍-ଇଵ ନ ବଭୌ - what all did not take place; ସଂପତ୍-ସଂପୂରିତଂ - with prosperity full of; ତରୁ-ଵଲ୍ଲରୀ-ସଲିଲ- - the trees, creepers, waters; ଧରଣୀ-ଗୋତ୍ର-କ୍ଷେତ୍ର-ଆଦିକଂ - land, hills, and fields etc; କମଲାପତେ - O Consort of Laxmi!;
Translation
O Consort of Laxmi! Thou set Thy two feet, which are caressed by Laxmi's lotus hands and which are infused with the protection of the world, in Vrindaavana. When Thou did so, the trees, creepers, waters, lands, hills and fields and what all was not full of prosperity!
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵିଲସଦୁଲପେ କାଂତାରାଂତେ ସମୀରଣଶୀତଲେ
ଵିପୁଲୟମୁନାତୀରେ ଗୋଵର୍ଧନାଚଲମୂର୍ଧସୁ ।
ଲଲିତମୁରଲୀନାଦଃ ସଂଚାରୟନ୍ ଖଲୁ ଵାତ୍ସକଂ
କ୍ଵଚନ ଦିଵସେ ଦୈତ୍ୟଂ ଵତ୍ସାକୃତିଂ ତ୍ଵମୁଦୈକ୍ଷଥାଃ ॥3॥
Meaning
ଵିଲସତ୍-ଉଲପେ - in the lavish grass meadows; କାଂତାର-ଅଂତେ - at the forests' end; ସମୀରଣ-ଶୀତଲେ - with cool breeze (blowing); ଵିପୁଲ-ୟମୁନା-ତୀରେ - on the vast banks of Yamunaa; ଗୋଵର୍ଧନ-ଅଚଲ-ମୂର୍ଧସୁ - on the Govardhana mountain peaks; ଲଲିତ-ମୁରଲୀ-ନାଦଃ - with the gentle flute sound; ସଂଚାରୟନ୍ ଖଲୁ ଵାତ୍ସକଂ - (leading) to graze the calves, indeed; କ୍ଵଚନ ଦିଵସେ - one day; ଦୈତ୍ୟଂ ଵତ୍ସ-ଆକୃତିମ୍ - an Asura in the form of a calf; ତ୍ଵମ୍-ଉଦୈକ୍ଷଥାଃ - Thou saw;
Translation
In the lavish grass meadows at the end of the forests, the cool breeze was blowing on the vast banks of the Yamunaa river, on the peaks of the Govardhana mountain, Thou were playing the flute softly as Thou lead the calves to graze. One day, Thou saw an Asura in the form of a calf.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ରଭସଵିଲସତ୍ପୁଚ୍ଛଂ ଵିଚ୍ଛାୟତୋଽସ୍ୟ ଵିଲୋକୟନ୍
କିମପି ଵଲିତସ୍କଂଧଂ ରଂଧ୍ରପ୍ରତୀକ୍ଷମୁଦୀକ୍ଷିତମ୍ ।
ତମଥ ଚରଣେ ବିଭ୍ରଦ୍ଵିଭ୍ରାମୟନ୍ ମୁହୁରୁଚ୍ଚକୈଃ
କୁହଚନ ମହାଵୃକ୍ଷେ ଚିକ୍ଷେପିଥ କ୍ଷତଜୀଵିତମ୍ ॥4॥
Meaning
ରଭସ-ଵିଲସତ୍-ପୁଚ୍ଛଂ - with force wagging the tail; ଵିଚ୍ଛାୟତଃ- - while walking; ଅସ୍ୟ ଵିଲୋକୟନ୍ - his (calf's) gaze; କିମ୍-ଅପି ଵଲିତ-ସ୍କଂଧଂ - with somewhat turning his neck; ରଂଧ୍ର-ପ୍ରତୀକ୍ଷମ୍-ଉଦୀକ୍ଷିତମ୍ - for a loop hole waiting to see; ତମ୍-ଅଥ ଚରଣେ - him, then with two legs; ଵିଭ୍ରତ୍-ଵିଭ୍ରାମୟନ୍ - catching hold of and swirling; ମୁହୁଃ-ଉଚ୍ଚକୈଃ - again and again very fast; କୁହଚନ ମହାଵୃକ୍ଷେ - on a big tree; ଚିକ୍ଷେପିଥ କ୍ଷତ-ଜୀଵିତମ୍ - (Thou) threw, as he lost his life;
Translation
As the Asura walked about, wagging its tail briskly and forcefully, it turned its head in a strange way looking for a loop hole (an opportunity) to strike. Thou caught him by his two legs and swirling him very fast again and again, threw him on a big tree just as he lost his life.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନିପତତି ମହାଦୈତ୍ୟେ ଜାତ୍ୟା ଦୁରାତ୍ମନି ତତ୍କ୍ଷଣଂ
ନିପତନଜଵକ୍ଷୁଣ୍ଣକ୍ଷୋଣୀରୁହକ୍ଷତକାନନେ ।
ଦିଵି ପରିମିଲତ୍ ଵୃଂଦା ଵୃଂଦାରକାଃ କୁସୁମୋତ୍କରୈଃ
ଶିରସି ଭଵତୋ ହର୍ଷାଦ୍ଵର୍ଷଂତି ନାମ ତଦା ହରେ ॥5॥
Meaning
ନିପତତି ମହା-ଦୈତ୍ୟେ - (when) killed was the mighty Asura; ଜାତ୍ୟା ଦୁରାତ୍ମନି - (who) by birth was evil minded; ତତ୍-କ୍ଷଣମ୍ - then at that time; ନିପତନ-ଜଵ- - (because of) the falling force; କ୍ଷୁଣ୍ଣ-କ୍ଷୋଣୀଃ- - by breaking of the top of; ଉହ-କ୍ଷତ-କାନନେ - the trees (and so) destroyed the forests; ଦିଵି ପରିମିଲତ୍ ଵୃଂଦା - in the skies, the assembled groups; ଵୃଂଦାରକାଃ - of gods; କୁସୁମ-ଉତ୍କରୈଃ - with flowers' heaps; ଶିରସି ଭଵତଃ - on Thy head; ହର୍ଷାତ୍-ଵର୍ଷଂତି - with joy, showering; ନାମ ତଦା ହରେ - indeed, then, O God!;
Translation
By the impact of the fall of the Asura who was evil minded by birth, the tops of the trees were broken and the forests were destroyed. O God! The gods then assembling in the skies showered heaps of flowers on Thy head, in joy.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ସୁରଭିଲତମା ମୂର୍ଧନ୍ୟୂର୍ଧ୍ଵଂ କୁତଃ କୁସୁମାଵଲୀ
ନିପତତି ତଵେତ୍ୟୁକ୍ତୋ ବାଲୈଃ ସହେଲମୁଦୈରୟଃ ।
ଝଟିତି ଦନୁଜକ୍ଷେପେଣୋର୍ଧ୍ଵଂ ଗତସ୍ତରୁମଂଡଲାତ୍
କୁସୁମନିକରଃ ସୋଽୟଂ ନୂନଂ ସମେତି ଶନୈରିତି ॥6॥
Meaning
ସୁରଭିଲତମା - most fragrant; ମୂର୍ଧନି-ଊର୍ଧ୍ଵଂ - on top of (Thy) head; କୁତଃ କୁସୁମାଵଲୀ - from where cluster of flowers; ନିପତତି ତଵ- - is falling (on) Thy (head); ଇତି-ଉକ୍ତଃ ବାଲୈଃ - thus was said by the children; ସହେଲମ୍-ଉଦୈରୟଃ - jokingly (Thou) said; ଝଟିତି - suddenly; ଦନୁଜ-କ୍ଷେପେଣ- - by the Asura's throwing; ଊର୍ଧ୍ଵଂ ଗତଃ- - rising upward; ତରୁ-ମଂଡଲାତ୍ - from the clusters of the trees; କୁସୁମ-ନିକରଃ - the heaps of flowers; ସଃ-ଅୟଂ ନୂନଂ - that this indeed; ସମେତି ଶନୈଃ-ଇତି - is coming down slowly, thus;
Translation
The cowherd children asked Thee as to from where the extremely fragrant heap of flowers were falling on the top of Thy head. Thou jokingly told them that when the Asura was thrown , the flowers blooming on the clusters of the trees rose up and indeed those flowers were coming down slowly now.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କ୍ଵଚନ ଦିଵସେ ଭୂୟୋ ଭୂୟସ୍ତରେ ପରୁଷାତପେ
ତପନତନୟାପାଥଃ ପାତୁଂ ଗତା ଭଵଦାଦୟଃ ।
ଚଲିତଗରୁତଂ ପ୍ରେକ୍ଷାମାସୁର୍ବକଂ ଖଲୁ ଵିସ୍ମ୍ରୃତଂ
କ୍ଷିତିଧରଗରୁଚ୍ଛେଦେ କୈଲାସଶୈଲମିଵାପରମ୍ ॥7॥
Meaning
କ୍ଵଚନ ଦିଵସେ - on another day; ଭୂୟଃ ଭୂୟସ୍ତରେ - again, again very much; ପରୁଷ-ଆତପେ - (when) it was very hot; ତପନ-ତନୟା-ପାଥଃ - the sun daughter's waters (waters of Yamunaa); ପାତୁଂ ଗତା - to drink went; ଭଵତ୍-ଆଦୟଃ - Thou and others; ଚଲିତ-ଗରୁତମ୍ - moving very quickly (the wings); ପ୍ରେକ୍ଷାମାସୁଃ-ବକଂ - (Thou) saw a crane; ଖଲୁ ଵିସ୍ମୃତଂ - indeed forgotten; କ୍ଷିତିଧର-ଗରୁତ୍-ଛେଦେ - (when) the mountains' wings were cut (by Indra); କୈଲାସ-ଶୈଲମ୍-ଇଵ-ଅପରମ୍ - Kailaash mountain like another;
Translation
Again on another day, when it was extremely hot, Thou and the others went to drink the water of river Yamunaa who is the daughter of the Sun. Thou saw a crane flapping its wings very quickly, which looked like the mountain Kailaash whose wings Indra forgot to cut when he was cutting off the wings of the mountains.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ପିବତି ସଲିଲଂ ଗୋପଵ୍ରାତେ ଭଵଂତମଭିଦ୍ରୁତଃ
ସ କିଲ ନିଗିଲନ୍ନଗ୍ନିପ୍ରଖ୍ୟଂ ପୁନର୍ଦ୍ରୁତମୁଦ୍ଵମନ୍ ।
ଦଲୟିତୁମଗାତ୍ତ୍ରୋଟ୍ୟାଃ କୋଟ୍ୟା ତଦାଽଽଶୁ ଭଵାନ୍ ଵିଭୋ
ଖଲଜନଭିଦାଚୁଂଚୁଶ୍ଚଂଚୂ ପ୍ରଗୃହ୍ୟ ଦଦାର ତମ୍ ॥8॥
Meaning
ପିବତି ସଲିଲଂ - drinking the water (when); ଗୋପଵ୍ରାତେ - the cowherd boys were,; ଭଵଂତମ୍-ଅଭିଦ୍ରୁତଃ - towards Thee charging; ସ କିଲ ନିଗିଲନ୍- - he indeed swallowing Thee; ଅଗ୍ନି-ପ୍ରଖ୍ୟମ୍ - fire-like (Thee); ପୁନଃ-ଦ୍ରୁତମ୍-ଉଦ୍ଵମନ୍ - again hastily spitting out; ଦଲୟିତୁମ୍-ଅଗାତ୍- - to tear (Thee) came; ତ୍ରୋଟ୍ୟାଃ କୋଟ୍ୟା - by the beaks point; ତଦା-ଆଶୁ - then quickly; ଭଵାନ୍ ଵିଭୋ - Thou O Lord!; ଖଲ-ଜନ-ଭିଦା-ଚୁଂଚୁଃ- - in the evil people destroying expert; ଚଂଚୂ ପ୍ରଗୃହ୍ୟ - (his Asura's) beak, catching hold of; ଦଦାର ତମ୍ - tore him apart;
Translation
When the cowherd boys were drinking water, he charged towards Thee and swallowed Thee and again hastily spit Thee out like a ball of fire. He then came to tear Thee by the point of its beak. O Lord! Thou who are adapt at destroying the evil people, catching hold of his beak, tore him apart.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ସପଦି ସହଜାଂ ସଂଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁଂ ଵା ମୃତାଂ ଖଲୁ ପୂତନା-
ମନୁଜମଘମପ୍ୟଗ୍ରେ ଗତ୍ଵା ପ୍ରତୀକ୍ଷିତୁମେଵ ଵା ।
ଶମନନିଲୟଂ ୟାତେ ତସ୍ମିନ୍ ବକେ ସୁମନୋଗଣେ
କିରତି ସୁମନୋଵୃଂଦଂ ଵୃଂଦାଵନାତ୍ ଗୃହମୈୟଥାଃ ॥9॥
Meaning
ସପଦି ସହଜାଂ - hastily, (his) sister; ସଂଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁଂ ଵା ମୃତାଂ - to see or the dead; ଖଲୁ ପୂତନାମ୍- - indeed Pootanaa; ଅନୁଜମ୍-ଅଘମ୍-ଅପି- - (Or) the younger brother Agha also; ଅଗ୍ରେ ଗତ୍ଵା - ahead going; ପ୍ରତୀକ୍ଷିତୁମ୍-ଏଵ ଵା - or awaiting him only; ଶମନ-ନିଲୟଂ - to the abode of death; ୟାତେ ତସ୍ମିନ୍ ବକେ - his having gone, the crane's; ସୁମନୋଗଣେ - (when) the host of gods; କିରତି ସୁମନ-ଵୃଂଦଂ - was showering heaps of flowers; ଵୃଂଦାଵନାତ୍ - from Vrindaavana; ଗୃହମ୍-ଐୟଥାଃ - to home (Thou) went;
Translation
In no time the crane demon reached the abode of death as if to see his dead sister Pootanaa or as if to welcome his younger brother Aghaasura who was to follow him. As the host of gods were showering heaps of flowers, Thou went home from the woods of Vrindaavana.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଲଲିତମୁରଲୀନାଦଂ ଦୂରାନ୍ନିଶମ୍ୟ ଵଧୂଜନୈ-
ସ୍ତ୍ଵରିତମୁପଗମ୍ୟାରାଦାରୂଢମୋଦମୁଦୀକ୍ଷିତଃ ।
ଜନିତଜନନୀନଂଦାନଂଦଃ ସମୀରଣମଂଦିର-
ପ୍ରଥିତଵସତେ ଶୌରେ ଦୂରୀକୁରୁଷ୍ଵ ମମାମୟାନ୍ ॥10॥
Meaning
ଲଲିତ-ମୁରଲୀ-ନାଦଂ - the sweet sound of the flute; ଦୂରାତ୍-ନିଶମ୍ୟ - from far hearing; ଵଧୂଜନୈଃ- - by the Gopikas; ତ୍ଵରିତମ୍-ଉପଗମ୍ୟ-ଆରାତ୍- - hastily approaching near; ଆରୂଢ-ମୋଦମ୍-ଉଦୀକ୍ଷିତଃ - in extreme joy (they) saw (Thee); ଜନିତ-ଜନନୀ-ନଂଦ-ଆନଂଦଃ - causing joy to (Thy) mother and Nanda; ସମୀରଣ-ମଂଦିର-ପ୍ରଥିତ-ଵସତେ - in the Guruvaayur temple, famous, living; ଶୌରେ - O Shauri! (Vaasudeva); ଦୂରୀ କୁରୁଷ୍ଵ - expel; ମମ-ଆମୟାନ୍ - my ailments;
Translation
The Gopikaas heard the sweet sound of Thy flute and rushed with great joy to have a glimpse of Thee. Thy parents Yashoda and Nanda were also very delighted to see Thee. O Thou Shauri! (Vaasudeva) Who are well known to be residing in the famous temple of Guruvaayur, be pleased to expel my ailments.
