ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅଥ ଵାରିଣି ଘୋରତରଂ ଫଣିନଂ
ପ୍ରତିଵାରୟିତୁଂ କୃତଧୀର୍ଭଗଵନ୍ ।
ଦ୍ରୁତମାରିଥ ତୀରଗନୀପତରୁଂ
ଵିଷମାରୁତଶୋଷିତପର୍ଣଚୟମ୍ ॥1॥

Meaning
ଅଥ ଵାରିଣି - then in the water; ଘୋରତରଂ ଫଣିନଂ - very fierce that serpent; ପ୍ରତିଵାରୟିତୁଂ - to drive away; କୃତଧୀଃ - having decided; ଭଗଵନ୍ - O Lord; ଦ୍ରୁତମ୍-ଆରିଥ - quickly (Thou) approached; ତୀରଗ-ନୀପ-ତରୁଂ - the bank situated Kadamba tree; ଵିଷ-ମାରୁତ-ଶୋଷିତ- - the poisoned breeze had dried up; ପର୍ଣ-ଚୟମ୍ - the cluster of leaves;

Translation
O Lord! Thou then made up Thy mind to drive away the fierce serpent from the waters. Thou quickly approached and got up on a Kadamba tree standing on the bank of the river, with its leaves withered due to the poisonous breeze.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅଧିରୁହ୍ୟ ପଦାଂବୁରୁହେଣ ଚ ତଂ
ନଵପଲ୍ଲଵତୁଲ୍ୟମନୋଜ୍ଞରୁଚା ।
ହ୍ରଦଵାରିଣି ଦୂରତରଂ ନ୍ୟପତଃ
ପରିଘୂର୍ଣିତଘୋରତରଂଗ୍ଗଣେ ॥2॥

Meaning
ଅଧିରୁହ୍ୟ - climbing with; ପଦ-ଅଂବୁ-ରୁହେଣ - feet tender lotus like; ଚ ତଂ - and that (tree); ନଵ-ପଲ୍ଲଵ-ତୁଲ୍ୟ- - like tender new leaves; ମନୋଜ୍ଞ-ରୁଚା - charming and splendorous; ହ୍ରଦ-ଵାରିଣି - into the deep water; ଦୂରତରଂ ନ୍ୟପତଃ - far out (Thou) jumped; ପରିଘୂର୍ଣିତ- - with swirling; ଘୋର-ତରଂଗ-ଗଣେ - fierce waves of water;

Translation
Thou climbed that tree with Thy lotus like splendorous charming feet resembling tender leaves, and with a long leap jumped far out into the deep waters with swirling fierce waves.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭୁଵନତ୍ରୟଭାରଭୃତୋ ଭଵତୋ
ଗୁରୁଭାରଵିକଂପିଵିଜୃଂଭିଜଲା ।
ପରିମଜ୍ଜୟତି ସ୍ମ ଧନୁଶ୍ଶତକଂ
ତଟିନୀ ଝଟିତି ସ୍ଫୁଟଘୋଷଵତୀ ॥3॥

Meaning
ଭୁଵନ-ତ୍ରୟ-ଭାର-ଭୃତଃ - of the three worlds the weight bearing; ଭଵତଃ ଗୁରୁ-ଭାର- - of Thee the immense weight (causing); ଵିକଂପି-ଵିଜୃଂଭି-ଜଲା - swirling and swelling with its waters; ପରିମଜ୍ଜୟତି ସ୍ମ - started to submerge; ଧନୁଃ-ଶତକଂ - the area of a hundred bows (in measurement); ତଟିନୀ ଝଟିତି - on the river bed, and suddenly; ସ୍ଫୁଟ-ଘୋଷଵତୀ - (the river) made an intense roar;

Translation
When, Thou the bearer of the weight of the three worlds, jumped, Thy immense weight caused the waters to swirl and swell. On the river bed an area of a hundred bows (yards) submerged, as a sudden roar arose from the river.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅଥ ଦିକ୍ଷୁ ଵିଦିକ୍ଷୁ ପରିକ୍ଷୁଭିତ-
ଭ୍ରମିତୋଦରଵାରିନିନାଦଭରୈଃ ।
ଉଦକାଦୁଦଗାଦୁରଗାଧିପତି-
ସ୍ତ୍ଵଦୁପାଂତମଶାଂତରୁଷାଽଂଧମନାଃ ॥4॥

Meaning
ଅଥ ଦିକ୍ଷୁ ଵିଦିକ୍ଷୁ - then, in all the directions and the intermediary directions; ପରିକ୍ଷୁଭିତ-ଭ୍ରମିତ- - turbulent swirling; ଉଦର-ଵାରି-ନିନାଦ-ଭରୈଃ - from the middle of the waters roaring aloud; ଉଦକାତ୍-ଉଦଗାତ୍- - from (that) water came out; ଉରଗାଧିପତିଃ- - the king of serpents; ତ୍ଵତ୍-ଉପାଂତମ୍- - near Thee; ଅଶାଂତ-ରୁଷା- - disturbed and angered; ଅଂଧମନାଃ - and so blinded (with rage);

Translation
The loud roar from the middle of the waters which extended to all the directions and the intermediary directions, disturbed and angered the serpent king Kaaliya. He came out of the water and rushed up to Thee in a fit of blinded anger.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଫଣଶୃଂଗସହସ୍ରଵିନିସ୍ସୃମର-
ଜ୍ଵଲଦଗ୍ନିକଣୋଗ୍ରଵିଷାଂବୁଧରମ୍ ।
ପୁରତଃ ଫଣିନଂ ସମଲୋକୟଥା
ବହୁଶୃଂଗିଣମଂଜନଶୈଲମିଵ ॥5॥

Meaning
ଫଣ-ଶୃଂଗ- - (with) hoods , peak (like); ସହସ୍ର-ଵିନିଃସୃମର- - thousands of them emitting; ଜ୍ଵଲତ୍-ଅଗ୍ନି-କଣ- - burning like fire flakes; ଉଗ୍ର-ଵିଷ-ଅଂବୁଧରମ୍ - fierce poison fluid bearing; ପୁରତଃ ଫଣିନଂ - in front the serpent; ସମଲୋକୟଥାଃ - (Thou) saw; ବହୁ-ଶୃଂଗି-ଗଣମ୍- - many peaked; ଅଂଜନ-ଶୈଲମ୍-ଇଵ - black mountain, as if;

Translation
Thou saw the serpent in front with his thousands of peak like hoods emitting burning fire flakes and fierce poison fluid, looking like a many peaked black mountain.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଜ୍ଵଲଦକ୍ଷି ପରିକ୍ଷରଦୁଗ୍ରଵିଷ-
ଶ୍ଵସନୋଷ୍ମଭରଃ ସ ମହାଭୁଜଗଃ ।
ପରିଦଶ୍ୟ ଭଵଂତମନଂତବଲଂ
ସମଵେଷ୍ଟୟଦସ୍ଫୁଟଚେଷ୍ଟମହୋ ॥6॥

Meaning
ଜ୍ଵଲତ୍-ଅକ୍ଷି - with flaming eyes; ପରିକ୍ଷରତ୍-ଉଗ୍ର-ଵିଷ- - emitting deadly poison; ଶ୍ଵସନ୍-ଊଷ୍ମଭରଃ - breathing out intense heat; ସ ମହାଭୁଜଗଃ - that huge serpent; ପରିଦଶ୍ୟ - biting; ଭଵଂତମ୍-ଅନଂତବଲଂ - Thee of limitless strength; ସମଵେଷ୍ଟୟତ୍- - coiled (around Thee); ଅସ୍ଫୁଟ-ଚେଷ୍ଟମ୍- - making invisible Thy movements; ଅହୋ - Alas;

Translation
Alas! That huge serpent emitting deadly poison and breathing out intense heat, bit Thee of limitless strength, all over Thy body. Then it coiled around Thee making Thy body and Thy movements invisible.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅଵିଲୋକ୍ୟ ଭଵଂତମଥାକୁଲିତେ
ତଟଗାମିନି ବାଲକଧେନୁଗଣେ ।
ଵ୍ରଜଗେହତଲେଽପ୍ୟନିମିତ୍ତଶତଂ
ସମୁଦୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଗତା ୟମୁନାଂ ପଶୁପାଃ ॥7॥

Meaning
ଅଵିଲୋକ୍ୟ ଭଵଂତମ୍- - not seeing Thee; ଅଥ-ଆକୁଲିତେ - then distressed; ତଟ-ଗାମିନି - (who) to the bank (of river Yamunaa) had come; ବାଲକ-ଧେନୁ-ଗଣେ - the children and the cows all; ଵ୍ରଜ-ଗେହ-ତଲେ-ଅପି- - in Gokula houses also; ଅନିମିତ୍ତ-ଶତଂ - evil omens innumerable; ସମୁଦୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଗତା - seeing went; ୟମୁନାଂ ପଶୁପାଃ - towards Yamunaa the Gopas;

Translation
The Gopa boys and the cows were distressed when they did not see Thee, and went to the bank of the river Yamunaa. In the houses in Gokula also the Gopas saw hundreds of evil omens and they also rushed towards Yamunaa.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅଖିଲେଷୁ ଵିଭୋ ଭଵଦୀୟ ଦଶା-
ମଵଲୋକ୍ୟ ଜିହାସୁଷୁ ଜୀଵଭରମ୍ ।
ଫଣିବଂଧନମାଶୁ ଵିମୁଚ୍ୟ ଜଵା-
ଦୁଦଗମ୍ୟତ ହାସଜୁଷା ଭଵତା ॥8॥

Meaning
ଅଖିଲେଷୁ - (as) all of them; ଵିଭୋ - O Lord; ଭଵଦୀୟ-ଦଶାମ୍ - Thy plight; ଅଵଲୋକ୍ୟ - seeing; ଜିହାସୁଷୁ - ready to give up their; ଜୀଵଭରମ୍ - lives; ଫଣି-ବଂଧନମ୍- - the coils of the snake; ଆଶୁ ଵିମୁଚ୍ୟ - quickly shedding; ଜଵାତ୍-ଉଦଗମ୍ୟତ - hastily emerged; ହାସଜୁଷା ଭଵତା - with a smile, Thou;

Translation
O Lord! All of them were overwhelmed with grief on seeing Thy plight and were ready to give up their lives in order to save Thee. Just then, Thou quickly shed the coils of the snake and hastily emerged with a smile.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅଧିରୁହ୍ୟ ତତଃ ଫଣିରାଜଫଣାନ୍
ନନୃତେ ଭଵତା ମୃଦୁପାଦରୁଚା ।
କଲଶିଂଜିତନୂପୁରମଂଜୁମିଲ-
ତ୍କରକଂକଣସଂକୁଲସଂକ୍ଵଣିତମ୍ ॥9॥

Meaning
ଅଧିରୁହ୍ୟ ତତଃ - climbing upon then; ଫଣି-ରାଜ-ଫଣାନ୍ - the serpent king,s hoods; ନନୃତେ ଭଵତା - dance was performed by Thee; ମୃଦୁ-ପାଦ-ରୁଚା - with delicate feet beautiful; କଲଶିଂଜିତ-ନୂପୁର- - the gentle sound of the anklets; ମଂଜୁ-ମିଲତ୍- - beautifully mingling with; କର-କଂକଣ-ସଂକୁଲ- - the bangles on the wrists'; ସଂକ୍ଵଣିତମ୍ - tinkling;

Translation
Then Thou mounted on the hoods of the serpent king and danced with Thy delicate beautiful feet. The gentle sound of the anklets mingled beautifully and rhythmically with the tinkling of the bangles on Thy wrists.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଜହୃଷୁଃ ପଶୁପାସ୍ତୁତୁଷୁର୍ମୁନୟୋ
ଵଵୃଷୁଃ କୁସୁମାନି ସୁରେଂଦ୍ରଗଣାଃ ।
ତ୍ଵୟି ନୃତ୍ୟତି ମାରୁତଗେହପତେ
ପରିପାହି ସ ମାଂ ତ୍ଵମଦାଂତଗଦାତ୍ ॥10॥

Meaning
ଜହୃଷୁଃ ପଶୁପାଃ- - rejoiced the Gopas; ତୁତୁଷୁଃ-ମୁନୟଃ - sang hymns the sages; ଵଵୃଷୁଃ କୁସୁମାନି - showered flowers; ସୁରେଂଦ୍ର-ଗଣାଃ - the gods' groups; ତ୍ଵୟି ନୃତ୍ୟତି - when Thou danced; ମାରୁତଗେହପତେ - O Lord of Guruvaayur; ପରିପାହି - save; ସ - That (Thou); ମାଂ - me; ତ୍ଵମ୍- - Thou; ଅଦାଂତ-ଗଦାତ୍ - (from) severe illness;

Translation
As Thou performed the dance, the Gopas rejoiced, the sages sang hymns, and the gods showered flowers. O Lord of the Guruvaayur temple! Such that Thou are, save me from the severe illness.
