ନାରାୟଣୀୟଂ ଦଶକ 63

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଦଦୃଶିରେ କିଲ ତତ୍କ୍ଷଣମକ୍ଷତ-
ସ୍ତନିତଜୃଂଭିତକଂପିତଦିକ୍ତଟାଃ ।
ସୁଷମୟା ଭଵଦଂଗତୁଲାଂ ଗତା
ଵ୍ରଜପଦୋପରି ଵାରିଧରାସ୍ତ୍ଵୟା ॥1॥

Meaning
ଦଦୃଶିରେ କିଲ - were seen indeed; ତତ୍-କ୍ଷଣମ୍- - (at) that moment; ଅକ୍ଷତ-ସ୍ତନିତ- - continuously roaring; ଜୃଂଭିତ-କଂପିତ- - (and) spreading (and) causing to tremble; ଦିକ୍-ତଟାଃ - the quarters to their ends; ସୁଷମୟା - in their brilliance; ଭଵତ୍-ଅଂଗ-ତୁଲାଂ - Thy form in resemblance; ଗତାଃ - attaining; ଵ୍ରଜପଦ-ଉପରି - above the land of Vraja; ଵାରିଧରାଃ-ତ୍ଵୟା - rain clouds by Thee (were seen);

Translation
At that moment, indeed, above the land of Vraja, were seen by Thee massive rain clouds continuously roaring and spreading. They caused all the quarters to tremble and they resembled Thy form in their brilliance.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵିପୁଲକରକମିଶ୍ରୈସ୍ତୋୟଧାରାନିପାତୈ-
ର୍ଦିଶିଦିଶି ପଶୁପାନାଂ ମଂଡଲେ ଦଂଡ୍ୟମାନେ ।
କୁପିତହରିକୃତାନ୍ନଃ ପାହି ପାହୀତି ତେଷାଂ
ଵଚନମଜିତ ଶ୍ରୃଣ୍ଵନ୍ ମା ବିଭୀତେତ୍ୟଭାଣୀଃ ॥2॥

Meaning
ଵିପୁଲ-କରକ୍-ମିଶ୍ରୈଃ- - huge hail stones accompanied by; ତୋୟ-ଧାରା-ନିପାତୈଃ- - torrential rain fall; ଦିଶି-ଦିଶି - in all directions; ପଶୁପାନାଂ ମଂଡଲେ - (when) the cowherds' groups; ଦଂଡ୍ୟମାନେ - were being tormented; କୁପିତ- - (from) angered; ହରି-କୃତାତ୍- - Indra's actions; ନଃ ପାହି ପାହି- - save, save us; ଇତି ତେଷାଂ ଵଚନମ୍- - thus their words; ଅଜିତ ଶ୍ରୃଣଵନ୍ - O Invincible One! Hearing; ମା ଵିଭୀତ- - do not be afraid; ଇତି-ଅଭାଣୀଃ - thus (Thou) said;

Translation
There was torrential rain in all directions accompanied by huge enormous hail stones. The group of cowherds were tormented by the wrathful action of Indra. They all cried and prayed to be protected. O Invincible One! Hearing their laments , Thou asked them not to fear.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କୁଲ ଇହ ଖଲୁ ଗୋତ୍ରୋ ଦୈଵତଂ ଗୋତ୍ରଶତ୍ରୋ-
ର୍ଵିହତିମିହ ସ ରୁଂଧ୍ୟାତ୍ କୋ ନୁ ଵଃ ସଂଶୟୋଽସ୍ମିନ୍ ।
ଇତି ସହସିତଵାଦୀ ଦେଵ ଗୋଵର୍ଦ୍ଧନାଦ୍ରିଂ
ତ୍ଵରିତମୁଦମୁମୂଲୋ ମୂଲତୋ ବାଲଦୋର୍ଭ୍ୟାମ୍ ॥3॥

Meaning
କୁଲ ଇହ - (for) the clan here; ଖଲୁ ଗୋତ୍ରଃ ଦୈଵତଂ - indeed the mountain is the deity; ଗୋତ୍ର-ଶତ୍ରୋଃ- - the mountain enemy's; ଵିହିତମ୍-ଇହ୍ - attack here; ସ ରୁଂଧ୍ୟାତ୍ - he will resist; କଃ ନୁ ଵଃ ସଂଶୟଃ- - what indeed is your doubt; ଅସ୍ମିନ୍ ଇତି - in this, thus; ସହସିତ-ଵାଦୀ - with a smile saying; ଦେଵ - O Lord!; ଗୋଵର୍ଦ୍ଧନ-ଅଦ୍ରିମ୍ - the Govardhana mountain; ତ୍ଵରିତମ୍- - quickly; ଉଦମୁମୂଲଃ ମୂଲତଃ - uprooted from the roots; ବାଲ-ଦୋର୍ଭ୍ୟାମ୍ - with (Thy) two tender hands;

Translation
Here, for our clan, the mountain is the deity. Indra is the enemy of mountains. This mountain, Govardhan, will resist Indra's attack. Indeed what is your doubt in this?' Thou said so with a smile. O Lord! Assuring them, Thou quickly uprooted the Govardhana mountain with Thy two tender arms.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତଦନୁ ଗିରିଵରସ୍ୟ ପ୍ରୋଦ୍ଧୃତସ୍ୟାସ୍ୟ ତାଵତ୍
ସିକତିଲମୃଦୁଦେଶେ ଦୂରତୋ ଵାରିତାପେ ।
ପରିକରପରିମିଶ୍ରାନ୍ ଧେନୁଗୋପାନଧସ୍ତା-
ଦୁପନିଦଧଦଧତ୍ଥା ହସ୍ତପଦ୍ମେନ ଶୈଲମ୍ ॥4॥

Meaning
ତଦନୁ ଗିରିଵରସ୍ୟ - thereafter of (this) mountain; ପ୍ରୋଦ୍ଧୃତସ୍ୟ- - (which) was lifted up; ଅସ୍ୟ ତାଵତ୍ - this then; ସିକତିଲ-ମୃଦୁ-ଦେଶେ - on the soft sand bed; ଦୂରତଃ ଵାରିତ-ଆପେ - which till far away was protected from water; ପରିକର-ପରିମିଶ୍ରାନ୍ - household articles, along with; ଧେନୁ-ଗୋପାନ୍- - cows and cowherds; ଅଧସ୍ତାତ୍- - underneath; ଉପନିଦଧତ୍- - keeping; ଅଧତ୍ଥାଃ - (Thou) held aloft; ହସ୍ତ-ପଦ୍ମେନ - with one lotus like arm; ଶୈଲମ୍ - the mountain;

Translation
Then Thou held aloft the lifted up mountain with Thy lotus like arm. The soft sand bed of the mountain was well protected from the rain water. The cows and cowherds all gathered under the uplifted mountain along with their belongings and were also well protected.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭଵତି ଵିଧୃତଶୈଲେ ବାଲିକାଭିର୍ଵୟସ୍ୟୈ-
ରପି ଵିହିତଵିଲାସଂ କେଲିଲାପାଦିଲୋଲେ ।
ସଵିଧମିଲିତଧେନୂରେକହସ୍ତେନ କଂଡୂ-
ୟତି ସତି ପଶୁପାଲାସ୍ତୋଷମୈଷଂତ ସର୍ଵେ ॥5॥

Meaning
ଭଵତି - (when) Thou; ଵିଧୃତ-ଶୈଲେ - were holding the mountain; ବାଲିକାଭିଃ - with the girls and; ଵୟସ୍ୟୈଃ-ଅପି - with the boys of Thy age group also; ଵିହିତ-ଵିଲାସଂ - with enthusiasm; କେଲି-ଲାପ-ଆଦି-ଲୋଲେ - in playful conversation etc engaging; ସଵିଧ-ମିଲିତ-ଧେନୂଃ- - near Thee gathered cows; ଏକ-ହସ୍ତେନ - with one hand; କଂଡୂୟତି ସତି - caressing; ପଶୁପାଲାଃ- - the cowherds; ତୋଷମ୍-ଐଷଂତ - satisfaction achieved; ସର୍ଵେ - all of them;

Translation
As Thou were holding the mountain, Thou enthusiastically engaged the girls and boys of Thy age group in playful conversation. The cows gathered around Thee and Thou caressed them with one hand. The cowherds were all very satisfied and delighted.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅତିମହାନ୍ ଗିରିରେଷ ତୁ ଵାମକେ
କରସରୋରୁହି ତଂ ଧରତେ ଚିରମ୍ ।
କିମିଦମଦ୍ଭୁତମଦ୍ରିବଲଂ ନ୍ଵିତି
ତ୍ଵଦଵଲୋକିଭିରାକଥି ଗୋପକୈଃ ॥6॥

Meaning
ଅତିମହାନ୍ - very big; ଗିରିଃ-ଏଷ - mountain this (is); ତୁ ଵାମକେ - however in the left; କର-ସରୋରୁହି - hand, lotus like; ତଂ ଧରତେ ଚିରମ୍ - this (mountain) (he) is holding for long; କିମ୍-ଇଦମ୍- - what this; ଅଦ୍ଭୁତମ୍- - wonder; ଅଦ୍ରି-ବଲଂ - (or) mountain's power; ନୁ-ଇତି - indeed (is it) thus; ତ୍ଵତ୍-ଅଵଲୋକିଭିଃ- - by Thy onlookers; ଆକଥି ଗୋପକୈଃ - was said by the cowherds;

Translation
This mountain is so huge. Yet he is holding it in his left hand which is tender like a lotus stalk, for long. What a marvel! Is it that it is the power of the mountain to have lifted itself up?' The Gopas who were Thy onlookers commented thus.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅହହ ଧାର୍ଷ୍ଟ୍ୟମମୁଷ୍ୟ ଵଟୋର୍ଗିରିଂ
ଵ୍ୟଥିତବାହୁରସାଵଵରୋପୟେତ୍ ।
ଇତି ହରିସ୍ତ୍ଵୟି ବଦ୍ଧଵିଗର୍ହଣୋ
ଦିଵସସପ୍ତକମୁଗ୍ରମଵର୍ଷୟତ୍ ॥7॥

Meaning
ଅହହ ଧାର୍ଷ୍ଟ୍ୟମ୍- - Oh! Arrogance; ଅମୁଷ୍ୟ ଵଟୋଃ- - of this small boy; ଗିରିଂ ଵ୍ୟଥିତ-ବାହୁଃ- - the mountain (with) pained hands; ଅସୌ-ଅଵରୋପୟେତ୍ - this (mountain) will place back; ଇତି ହରିଃ-ତ୍ଵୟି - thus Indra in Thee; ବଦ୍ଧ-ଵିଗର୍ହଣଃ - full of contempt; ଦିଵସ-ସପ୍ତକମ୍- - for seven days; ଉଗ୍ରମ୍-ଅଵର୍ଷୟତ୍ - heavily rained;

Translation
Oh! The arrogance of this small boy! When his hands pain by the weight of the mountain, he will put it back in place.' Saying so Indra who was full of contempt for Thee poured rain heavily for seven days.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅଚଲତି ତ୍ଵୟି ଦେଵ ପଦାତ୍ ପଦଂ
ଗଲିତସର୍ଵଜଲେ ଚ ଘନୋତ୍କରେ ।
ଅପହୃତେ ମରୁତା ମରୁତାଂ ପତି-
ସ୍ତ୍ଵଦଭିଶଂକିତଧୀଃ ସମୁପାଦ୍ରଵତ୍ ॥8॥

Meaning
ଅଚଲତି ତ୍ଵୟି - (when) did not move Thou; ଦେଵ - O Lord!; ପଦାତ୍ ପଦଂ - from Thy place, (even) one step; ଗଲିତ-ସର୍ଵ-ଜଲେ - (and when) were exhausted all the waters; ଚ ଘନୋତ୍କରେ - and the clouds; ଅପହୃତେ ମରୁତା - (and when they) were dispersed by the winds; ମରୁତାଂ ପତିଃ - the head of the gods Indra; ତ୍ଵତ୍-ଅଭିଶଂକିତ-ଧୀଃ - (about) Thee (having) a doubtful mind; ସମୁପାଦ୍ରଵତ୍ - fled;

Translation
Thou had not stirred one step from Thy place. All the clouds were drained and exhausted of their waters. They were drifted away and scattered by the winds. Noticing all this, the head of the gods, Indra was scared of Thy might and fled.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଶମମୁପେୟୁଷି ଵର୍ଷଭରେ ତଦା
ପଶୁପଧେନୁକୁଲେ ଚ ଵିନିର୍ଗତେ ।
ଭୁଵି ଵିଭୋ ସମୁପାହିତଭୂଧରଃ
ପ୍ରମୁଦିତୈଃ ପଶୁପୈଃ ପରିରେଭିଷେ ॥9॥

Meaning
ଶମମ୍-ଉପେୟୁଷି - subsiding (having) reached; ଵର୍ଷଭରେ ତଦା - the heavy rain then; ପଶୁପ-ଧେନୁ-କୁଲେ - the cowherds and the cows; ଚ ଵିନିର୍ଗତେ - had come out (from under the mountain); ଭୁଵି ଵିଭୋ - on the ground O Lord!; ସମୁପାହିତ-ଭୂଧରଃ - (Thee who) had placed the mountain; ପ୍ରମୁଦିତୈଃ ପଶୁପୈଃ - by the overjoyed cowherds; ପରିରେଭିଷେ - were embraced;

Translation
The heavy rain had then subsided and the cows and cowherds had come out from under the mountain. O Lord! Thou then replaced the mountain on the earth and were embraced by the overjoyed cowherds.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଧରଣିମେଵ ପୁରା ଧୃତଵାନସି
କ୍ଷିତିଧରୋଦ୍ଧରଣେ ତଵ କଃ ଶ୍ରମଃ ।
ଇତି ନୁତସ୍ତ୍ରିଦଶୈଃ କମଲାପତେ
ଗୁରୁପୁରାଲୟ ପାଲୟ ମାଂ ଗଦାତ୍ ॥10॥

Meaning
ଧରଣିମ୍-ଏଵ ପୁରା - earth also itself, long ago; ଧୃତଵାନସି - had lifted up (Thou); କ୍ଷିତିଧର-ଉଦ୍ଧରଣେ - in mountain lifting up; ତଵ କଃ ଶ୍ରମଃ - Thy what effort; ଇତି ନୁତଃ-ତ୍ରିଦଶୈଃ - thus praised by the gods; କମଲାପତେ - O Consort of Laxmi!; ଗୁରୁପୁରାଲୟ - O Resident of Guruvaayur!; ପାଲୟ ମାଂ ଗଦାତ୍ - save me from ailments;

Translation
O Consort of Laxmi! The gods praised Thee saying that long ago (in the incarnation of a Boar) Thou had lifted up the whole earth itself. Lifting up the mountain was not much of an effort for Thee. O Resident of Guruvaayur! Save me from ailments.
