ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କୁଚେଲନାମା ଭଵତଃ ସତୀର୍ଥ୍ୟତାଂ ଗତଃ ସ ସାଂଦୀପନିମଂଦିରେ ଦ୍ଵିଜଃ ।
ତ୍ଵଦେକରାଗେଣ ଧନାଦିନିସ୍ସ୍ପୃହୋ ଦିନାନି ନିନ୍ୟେ ପ୍ରଶମୀ ଗୃହାଶ୍ରମୀ ॥1॥
Meaning
କୁଚେଲ-ନାମା - Kuchela named; ଭଵତଃ ସତୀର୍ଥ୍ୟତାଂ - with Thee (who was) a fellow disciple; ଗତଃ ସ - went to, he; ସାଂଦିପନି-ମଂଦିରେ - at sage Saandipani's hermitage; ଦ୍ଵିଜଃ - that Braahmana; ତ୍ଵତ୍-ଏକ-ରାଗେଣ - with Thee steadily devoted; ଧନ-ଆଦି-ନିସ୍ସ୍ପୃହଃ - in wealth etc., desireless; ଦିନାନି ନିନ୍ୟେ - days spent; ପ୍ରଶମୀ ଗୃହାଶ୍ରମୀ - (as a) calm minded householder;
Translation
The Brahmin by the name Kuchela (Sudaamaa) was Thy fellow disciple in the hermitage of sage Saandipini. He was totally devoted to Thee. A house holder with a controlled mind and senses, he spent his days calmly without any worldly desires of wealth etc.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ସମାନଶୀଲାଽପି ତଦୀୟଵଲ୍ଲଭା ତଥୈଵ ନୋ ଚିତ୍ତଜୟଂ ସମେୟୁଷୀ ।
କଦାଚିଦୂଚେ ବତ ଵୃତ୍ତିଲବ୍ଧୟେ ରମାପତିଃ କିଂ ନ ସଖା ନିଷେଵ୍ୟତେ ॥2॥
Meaning
ସମାନ-ଶୀଲା-ଅପି - (being) of same nature even; ତଦୀୟ-ଵଲ୍ଲଭା - his wife; ତଥା-ଏଵ ନୋ - in the same manner did not; ଚିତ୍ତ-ଜୟଂ ସମେୟୁଷୀ - mind control achieve; କଦାଚିତ୍-ଊଚେ ବତ - once said O!; ଵୃତ୍ତି-ଲବ୍ଧୟେ - a livelihood to get; ରମାପତିଃ - the Consort of Laxmi; କିଂ ନ ସଖା - why do not your friend; ନିଷେଵ୍ୟତେ - approach;
Translation
His wife who equalled him in nature , had not achieved the same level of desirelessness as him. Once she asked him why should he not approach his friend Krishna, the Consort of Laxmi, for getting some means of livelihood.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଇତୀରିତୋଽୟଂ ପ୍ରିୟୟା କ୍ଷୁଧାର୍ତୟା ଜୁଗୁପ୍ସମାନୋଽପି ଧନେ ମଦାଵହେ ।
ତଦା ତ୍ଵଦାଲୋକନକୌତୁକାଦ୍ୟୟୌ ଵହନ୍ ପଟାଂତେ ପୃଥୁକାନୁପାୟନମ୍ ॥3॥
Meaning
ଇତି-ଈରିତମ୍-ଅୟଂ - thus told he; ପ୍ରିୟୟା କ୍ଷୁଧାର୍ତୟା - by (his wife) troubled by hunger; ଜୁଗୁପ୍ସମାନଃ-ଅପି - with revulsion even; ଧନେ ମଦ-ଆଵହେ - in wealth due to its arrogance bearing; ତଦା ତ୍ଵତ୍-ଆଲୋକନ- - then, Thee to meet; କୌତୁକାତ୍-ୟୟୌ - eagerness (he) went; ଵହନ୍ ପଟ-ଅଂତେ - carrying in one corner of his cloth; ପୃଥୁକାନ୍-ଉପାୟନମ୍ - beaten rice as offering;
Translation
Kuchela set off for Thy place more out of eagerness to meet Thee than for acquiring a means of livelihood, as prodded by his wife, troubled by hunger. He had a repulsiveness towards wealth because of its proneness to generate pride and arrogance. He carried in a corner of his cloth some beaten rice as an offering to Thee.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଗତୋଽୟମାଶ୍ଚର୍ୟମୟୀଂ ଭଵତ୍ପୁରୀଂ ଗୃହେଷୁ ଶୈବ୍ୟାଭଵନଂ ସମେୟିଵାନ୍ ।
ପ୍ରଵିଶ୍ୟ ଵୈକୁଂଠମିଵାପ ନିର୍ଵୃତିଂ ତଵାତିସଂଭାଵନୟା ତୁ କିଂ ପୁନଃ ॥4॥
Meaning
ଗତଃ-ଅୟମ୍- - reaching he; ଆଶ୍ଚ୍ର୍ୟମୟୀମ୍ - wondrous; ଭଵତ୍-ପୁରୀମ୍ - Thy city; ଗୃହେଷୁ ଶୈବ୍ୟା-ଭଵନ - among the houses, Mitravrinda's house; ସମେୟିଵାନ୍ - entered; ପ୍ରଵିଶ୍ୟ - entering; ଵୈକୁଂଠମ୍-ଇଵ- - Vaikuntha only; ଆପ ନିଵୃତିଂ - attained supreme peace; ତଵ-ଅତି-ସଂଭାଵନୟା - by Thy lavish hospitality; ତୁ କିଂ ପୁନଃ - indeed what else more;
Translation
Kuchela reached Thy wonderful city and among the many houses, entered the house of Mitravrindaa. As he did so he attained supreme peace as though he had entered Vaikuntha only, more so by Thy lavishing hospitality beyond description.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ପ୍ରପୂଜିତଂ ତଂ ପ୍ରିୟୟା ଚ ଵୀଜିତଂ କରେ ଗୃହୀତ୍ଵାଽକଥୟଃ ପୁରାକୃତମ୍ ।
ୟଦିଂଧନାର୍ଥଂ ଗୁରୁଦାରଚୋଦିତୈରପର୍ତୁଵର୍ଷ ତଦମର୍ଷି କାନନେ ॥5॥
Meaning
ପ୍ରପୂଜିତଂ ତଂ - well honoured (by Thee) he; ପ୍ରିୟୟା ଚ ଵୀଜିତଂ - and by Thy consort fanned; କରେ ଗୃହୀତ୍ଵା- - by hand taking; ଅକଥୟଃ - (Thou) narrated; ପୁରାକୃତମ୍ - the incidents; ୟତ୍-ଇଂଧନ-ଅର୍ଥମ୍ - like (when) for fire wood; ଗୁରୁ-ଦାର-ଚୋଦିତୈଃ- - on the teacher's wife's behest; ଅପର୍ତୁ-ଵର୍ଷମ୍ - in an unseasonal rain; ତତ୍-ଅମର୍ଷି କାନନେ - which was borne in the forest;
Translation
After a cordial reception by Thee as he was fanned by Thy consort, Thou held his hands and recalled the old incidents. Like when at the behest of the teacher's wife, Thou went together to gather fire wood and were caught in an unseasonal rain in the forest.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତ୍ରପାଜୁଷୋଽସ୍ମାତ୍ ପୃଥୁକଂ ବଲାଦଥ ପ୍ରଗୃହ୍ୟ ମୁଷ୍ଟୌ ସକୃଦାଶିତେ ତ୍ଵୟା ।
କୃତଂ କୃତଂ ନନ୍ଵିୟତେତି ସଂଭ୍ରମାଦ୍ରମା କିଲୋପେତ୍ୟ କରଂ ରୁରୋଧ ତେ ॥6॥
Meaning
ତ୍ରପାଜୁଷଃ-ଅସ୍ମାତ୍ - who was feeling shy, from him; ପୃଥୁକଂ ବଲାତ୍-ଅଥ - the flattened rice forcefully, then; ପ୍ରଗୃହ୍ୟ - snatching; ମୁଷ୍ଟୌ ସକୃତ୍- - a fistful once; ଆଶିତେ ତ୍ଵୟା - being eaten by Thee; କୃତଂ କୃତଂ - enough enough; ନନୁ-ଇୟତ-ଇତି - indeed this much thus; ସଂଭ୍ରମାତ୍-ରମା - in consternation, Ramaa; କିଲ-ଉପେତ୍ୟ - indeed approached; କରଂ ରୁରୋଧ ତେ - and hand held back Thy;
Translation
Kuchela was feeling very shy and so Thou forcefully snatched the flattened rice from him and ate a fistful. Just then in great consternation Ramaa approached Thee and held back Thy hand saying that that much was indeed enough.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭକ୍ତେଷୁ ଭକ୍ତେନ ସ ମାନିତସ୍ତ୍ଵୟା ପୁରୀଂ ଵସନ୍ନେକନିଶାଂ ମହାସୁଖମ୍ ।
ବତାପରେଦ୍ୟୁର୍ଦ୍ରଵିଣଂ ଵିନା ୟୟୌ ଵିଚିତ୍ରରୂପସ୍ତଵ ଖଲ୍ଵନୁଗ୍ରହଃ ॥7॥
Meaning
ଭକ୍ତେଷୁ ଭକ୍ତେନ - in the devotees, devoted (by Thee); ସ ମାନିତଃ- - he was honoured; ତ୍ଵୟା ପୁରୀଂ ଵସନ୍- - by Thee, in the city staying; ଏକ ନିଶାମ୍ - for one night; ମହା-ସୁଖମ୍ - very happily; ବତ-ଅପରେଦ୍ୟୁଃ- - alas! Next day; ଦ୍ରଵିଣଂ ଵିନା ୟୟୌ - wealth without went away; ଵିଚିତ୍ର-ରୂପଃ-ତଵ - of strange forms are Thy; ଖଲୁ-ଅନୁଗ୍ରହଃ - indeed blessings;
Translation
He was greatly honoured by Thee the devoted of the devotees, and very happily stayed in Thy city for one night. The next day he went away alas without any wealth. Strange indeed are Thy forms of blessings.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ୟଦି ହ୍ୟୟାଚିଷ୍ୟମଦାସ୍ୟଦଚ୍ୟୁତୋ ଵଦାମି ଭାର୍ୟାଂ କିମିତି ଵ୍ରଜନ୍ନସୌ ।
ତ୍ଵଦୁକ୍ତିଲୀଲାସ୍ମିତମଗ୍ନଧୀଃ ପୁନଃ କ୍ରମାଦପଶ୍ୟନ୍ମଣିଦୀପ୍ରମାଲୟମ୍ ॥8॥
Meaning
ୟଦି ହି-ଅୟାଚିଷ୍ୟମ୍- - if indeed I had asked; ଅଦାସ୍ୟତ୍-ଅଚ୍ୟୁତଃ - would have given Krishna; ଵଦାମି ଭାର୍ୟାଂ କିମ୍-ଇତି - will tell my wife what, thus; ଵ୍ରଜନ୍-ଅସୌ - walking he; ତ୍ଵତ୍-ଉକ୍ତି-ଲୀଲା-ସ୍ମିତ- - Thy talks and playful smile; ମଗ୍ନ-ଧୀଃ ପୁନଃ - with mind immersed in then; କ୍ରମାତ୍-ଅପଶ୍ୟତ୍- - gradually saw; ମଣି-ଦୀପ୍ରମ୍-ଆଲୟମ୍ - with gems resplendent house;
Translation
Had I but asked for wealth Krishna would surely have given. What shall I tell my wife?' Thus telling himself he walked along immersed in the memories of Thy talks and Thy playful smile. By and by he reached a gem studded splendorous mansion.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କିଂ ମାର୍ଗଵିଭ୍ରଂଶ ଇତି ଭ୍ରଂମନ୍ କ୍ଷଣଂ ଗୃହଂ ପ୍ରଵିଷ୍ଟଃ ସ ଦଦର୍ଶ ଵଲ୍ଲଭାମ୍ ।
ସଖୀପରୀତାଂ ମଣିହେମଭୂଷିତାଂ ବୁବୋଧ ଚ ତ୍ଵତ୍କରୁଣାଂ ମହାଦ୍ଭୁତାମ୍ ॥9॥
Meaning
କିଂ ମାର୍ଗ-ଵିଭ୍ରଂଶ - what is the way lost; ଇତି ଭ୍ରଂମନ୍ କ୍ଷଣଂ - thus wondering for a moment; ଗୃହଂ ପ୍ରଵିଷ୍ଟଃ - the house entering; ସ ଦଦର୍ଶ ଵଲ୍ଲଭାମ୍ - he saw his wife; ସଖୀ-ପରୀତାଂ - by ladies in waiting surrounded; ମଣି-ହେମ-ଭୂଷିତାଂ - with gems and gold ornaments adorned; ବୁବୋଧ ଚ - realised also; ତ୍ଵତ୍-କରୁଣାଂ - Thy compassion; ମହା-ଅଦ୍ଭୁତାମ୍ - most wonderful;
Translation
What have I lost my way?' Thus wondering for a moment he entered the house. He saw his wife adorned in ornaments of gems and gold and surrounded by ladies in waiting. He then realised Thy grace and compassion and the most wonderful results of the same.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ସ ରତ୍ନଶାଲାସୁ ଵସନ୍ନପି ସ୍ଵୟଂ ସମୁନ୍ନମଦ୍ଭକ୍ତିଭରୋଽମୃତଂ ୟୟୌ ।
ତ୍ଵମେଵମାପୂରିତଭକ୍ତଵାଂଛିତୋ ମରୁତ୍ପୁରାଧୀଶ ହରସ୍ଵ ମେ ଗଦାନ୍ ॥10॥
Meaning
ସ ରତ୍ନ-ଶାଲାସୁ - he in the gem studded building; ଵସନ୍-ଅପି ସ୍ଵୟଂ - residing though, himself; ସମୁନ୍ନମଦ୍-ଭକ୍ତି-ଭରଃ- - incessantly growing devotion, full of it; ଅମୃତଂ ୟୟୌ - liberation attained; ତ୍ଵମ୍-ଏଵମ୍-ଆପୂରିତ- - Thou in this manner fulfilled; ଭକ୍ତ-ଵାଂଛିତଃ - the devotees' desires; ମରୁତ୍ପୁରାଧୀଶ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ହରସ୍ଵ ମେ ଗଦାନ୍ - rid me of my ailments;
Translation
Residing in the begemmed mansion he himself was full of devotion for Thee which incessantly grew of its own. In the end he attained liberation. Thou in such a manner fulfilled the desire of Thy devotee. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Be pleased to rid me of my ailments.
