ପଠଂତୋ ନାମାନି ପ୍ରମଦଭରସିଂଧୌ ନିପତିତାଃ
ସ୍ମରଂତୋ ରୂପଂ ତେ ଵରଦ କଥୟଂତୋ ଗୁଣକଥାଃ ।
ଚରଂତୋ ୟେ ଭକ୍ତାସ୍ତ୍ଵୟି ଖଲୁ ରମଂତେ ପରମମୂ-
ନହଂ ଧନ୍ୟାନ୍ ମନ୍ୟେ ସମଧିଗତସର୍ଵାଭିଲଷିତାନ୍ ॥1॥
Meaning
ପଠଂତଃ - repeating; ନାମାନି - (Thy) names; ପ୍ରମଦଭର ସିଂଧୌ - in the ocean of Bliss; ନିପତିତାଃ - submerged; ସ୍ମରଂତଃ - meditating on; ରୂପଂ ତେ - Thy form; ଵରଦ - O Bestower of boons!; କଥୟଂତଃ - narrating (to one another); ଗୁଣକଥାଃ - (Thy) deeds and excellences; ଚରଂତଃ - moving about freely; ୟେ ଭକ୍ତାଃ - those devotees (who); ତ୍ଵୟି ଖଲୁ ରମଂତେ ପରଂ - in Thee, indeed, immersed in the Supreme Bliss; ଅମୂନ୍ ଅହଂ - such (devotees) I; ଧନ୍ୟାନ୍ ମନ୍ୟେ - consider to be really blessed; ସମଧିଗତ-ସର୍ଵ-ଅଭିଲଷିତାନ୍ - (they who) have attained fulfilment of all desires (i.e. who have no other desire other than the Lord);
Translation
O Bestower of Boons! I consider those devotees of Thine most fortunate, who always chant Thy sacred names, and so revel in the ocean of Bliss. Contemplating on Thy divine form they are engaged in narrating Thy divine stories. Moving about freely, they are immersed in the joy of Thy thoughts. They, indeed, have fulfilled all their desires in life.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଗଦକ୍ଲିଷ୍ଟଂ କଷ୍ଟଂ ତଵ ଚରଣସେଵାରସଭରେଽ-
ପ୍ୟନାସକ୍ତଂ ଚିତ୍ତଂ ଭଵତି ବତ ଵିଷ୍ଣୋ କୁରୁ ଦୟାମ୍ ।
ଭଵତ୍ପାଦାଂଭୋଜସ୍ମରଣରସିକୋ ନାମନିଵହା-
ନହଂ ଗାୟଂ ଗାୟଂ କୁହଚନ ଵିଵତ୍ସ୍ୟାମି ଵିଜନେ ॥2॥
Meaning
ଗଦ କ୍ଲିଷ୍ଟଂ - by diseases tormented; କଷ୍ଟଂ - what a pity; ତଵ ଚରଣ - Thy feet; ସେଵା-ରସ-ଭରେ ଅପି - even for the intense joy of serving; ଅନାସକ୍ତଂ ଚିତ୍ତଂ ଭଵତି - my mind does not feel interested; ବତ - alas; ଵିଷ୍ଣୋ - O All-pervading Being!; କୁରୁ ଦୟାଂ - be merciful (to me); ଭଵତ୍-ପାଦ-ଅଂଭୋଜ-ସ୍ମରଣ-ରସିକଃ - (I) becoming immersed in worshipping Thy lotus feet; ନାମ-ନିଵହାନ୍-ଅହଂ ଗାୟଂ ଗାୟଂ - I will keep singing Thy countless names; କୁହଚନ ଵିଵତ୍ସ୍ୟାମି ଵିଜନେ - in some secluded place, (I) will dwell;
Translation
O Lord Vishnu! tormented by this painful disease, what a pity, my mind is not inclined to revel in the joy of worshipping at Thy lotus feet. Be merciful to me, so that I may retire to a secluded beautiful place and enjoy the bliss of meditating on Thy lotus feet immersed in chanting Thy innumerable names.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କୃପା ତେ ଜାତା ଚେତ୍କିମିଵ ନ ହି ଲଭ୍ୟଂ ତନୁଭୃତାଂ
ମଦୀୟକ୍ଲେଶୌଘପ୍ରଶମନଦଶା ନାମ କିୟତୀ ।
ନ କେ କେ ଲୋକେଽସ୍ମିନ୍ନନିଶମୟି ଶୋକାଭିରହିତା
ଭଵଦ୍ଭକ୍ତା ମୁକ୍ତାଃ ସୁଖଗତିମସକ୍ତା ଵିଦଧତେ ॥3॥
Meaning
କୃପା ତେ ଜାତା ଚେତ୍- - if Thy grace is achieved; କିମ୍-ଇଵ ନ ହି ଲଭ୍ୟଂ - what is there that cannot be achieved?; ତନୁଭୃତାଂ - by all embodied beings; ମଦୀୟ କ୍ଲେଶ-ଔଘ-ପ୍ରଶମନ-ଦଶା - the task of eradicating my afflictions; ନାମ କିୟତୀ - how insignificant it is; ନ କେ କେ ଲୋକେ-ଅସ୍ମିନ୍- - are there not several (devotees) in this world; ଅନିଶମ୍-ଅୟି ଶୋକ-ଅଭିରହିତାଃ - always, O Lord, who are free of sorrows; ଭଵତ୍ ଭକ୍ତାଃ - Thy devotees; ମୁକ୍ତାଃ - who are liberated; ସୁଖ-ଗତିମ୍-ଅସକ୍ତା - have pure bliss and are unattached; ଵିଦଧତେ - and also moving about freely;
Translation
O Lord! if Thy grace is present, is there anything in this world which man cannot attain? The curing of my disease is just a very insignificant matter for Thee. There are many devotees of Thine, in this world, who having been liberated from sufferings and are moving about freely without any attachment.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ମୁନିପ୍ରୌଢା ରୂଢା ଜଗତି ଖଲୁ ଗୂଢାତ୍ମଗତୟୋ
ଭଵତ୍ପାଦାଂଭୋଜସ୍ମରଣଵିରୁଜୋ ନାରଦମୁଖାଃ ।
ଚରଂତୀଶ ସ୍ଵୈରଂ ସତତପରିନିର୍ଭାତପରଚି -
ତ୍ସଦାନଂଦାଦ୍ଵୈତପ୍ରସରପରିମଗ୍ନାଃ କିମପରମ୍ ॥4॥
Meaning
ମୁନି ପ୍ରୌଢା - great sages; ରୂଢାଃ ଜଗତି ଖଲୁ - (who)are well known in the world, indeed; ଗୂଢାତ୍ମଗତୟଃ - move about freely unnoticed; ଭଵତ୍-ପାଦ-ଅଂଭୋଜ-ସ୍ମରଣଵିରୁଜଃ - by constant contemplation of Thy lotus feet have become free from all sorrows; ନାରଦ-ମୁଖାଃ - Naarada leading; ଚରଂତି-ଈଶ ସ୍ଵୈରଂ - move about, O Lord, at will; ସତତ-ପରିନିର୍ଭାତ- - being ever immersed; ପରଚିତ୍-ଆନଂଦ୍-ଅଦ୍ଵୈତ-ପ୍ରସର-ପରିମଗ୍ନାଃ - in the unabating and indivisible flow of Bliss-Consciousness; କିଂ ଅପରମ୍ - what more than this (is desirable in life?);
Translation
O Lord! Great sages like Naarada move about freely at will without being noticed. They are free of all sorrows because of their constant contemplation on Thy lotus feet. They have attained the eternal knowledge and are always immersed in Thy non-dual Self,which is of the nature of supreme Bliss-Consciousness. What more can one desire to attain in life?
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭଵଦ୍ଭକ୍ତିଃ ସ୍ଫୀତା ଭଵତୁ ମମ ସୈଵ ପ୍ରଶମୟେ-
ଦଶେଷକ୍ଲେଶୌଘଂ ନ ଖଲୁ ହୃଦି ସଂଦେହକଣିକା ।
ନ ଚେଦ୍ଵ୍ୟାସସ୍ୟୋକ୍ତିସ୍ତଵ ଚ ଵଚନଂ ନୈଗମଵଚୋ
ଭଵେନ୍ମିଥ୍ୟା ରଥ୍ୟାପୁରୁଷଵଚନପ୍ରାୟମଖିଲମ୍ ॥5॥
Meaning
ଭଵତ୍ ଭକ୍ତିଃ - devotion to Thee; ସ୍ଫୀତା ଭଵତୁ - may it reach perfection; ମମ - my (devotion to Thee); ସ ଏଵ ପ୍ରଶମୟେତ୍ - that alone will eradicate; ଅଶେଷ-କ୍ଲେଶ-ଔଘଂ - endless sorrows and sufferings; ନ ଖଲୁ ହୃଦି - not, indeed, in my heart; ସଂଦେହ କଣିକା - is there the slightest doubt; ନ ଚେତ୍ - if it were not so; ଵ୍ୟାସସ୍ୟ-ଉକ୍ତି - the words of Sage Vyaasa; ତଵ ଚ ଵଚନଂ - Thy own words; ନୈଗମ-ଵଚଃ - (and) the statements of the Vedas; ଭଵେତ୍-ମିଥ୍ୟା - would become untrue; ରଥ୍ୟା-ପୁରୁଷ-ଵଚନ-ପ୍ରାୟମ୍ - like the street urchins' casual utterings; ଅଖିଲମ୍ - all of them;
Translation
O Lord! May my devotion to Thee grow intense, so that all my sufferings may automatically subside. I do not have the slightest doubt in my heart that devotion to Thee will bear this fruit. For if it were not so, the words of sage Vyaasa, Thy own words and the declarations of the Vedaas would prove to be untrue, like the casual mutterings of street urchins.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭଵଦ୍ଭକ୍ତିସ୍ତାଵତ୍ ପ୍ରମୁଖମଧୁରା ତ୍ଵତ୍ ଗୁଣରସାତ୍
କିମପ୍ୟାରୂଢା ଚେଦଖିଲପରିତାପପ୍ରଶମନୀ ।
ପୁନଶ୍ଚାଂତେ ସ୍ଵାଂତେ ଵିମଲପରିବୋଧୋଦୟମିଲ-
ନ୍ମହାନଂଦାଦ୍ଵୈତଂ ଦିଶତି କିମତଃ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥ୍ୟମପରମ୍ ॥6॥
Meaning
ଭଵତ୍-ଭକ୍ତିଃ - ତାଵତ୍ - devotion to Thee, indeed; ପ୍ରମୁଖ-ମଧୁରା - in the beginning itself is sweet; ତ୍ଵତ୍-ଗୁଣ-ରସାତ୍ - because of Thy excellent attributes; କିମ୍-ଅପି-ଆରୂଢା ଚେତ୍- - even with a little progress; ଅଖିଲ-ପରିତାପ-ପ୍ରଶମନୀ - it destroys all sorrows completely; ପୁନଃ-ଚ-ଅଂତେ - and besides, at the end also; ସ୍ଵ-ଅଂତେ - in the mind; ଵିମଲ-ପରିବୋଧ-ଉଦୟ-ମିଲତ୍ - arising from the pure knowledge of identity; ମହା-ଆନଂଦ-ଅଦ୍ଵୈତଂ - (with Brahman),the non-dual supreme bliss; ଦିଶତି - (It i.e. devotion) confers; କିମ୍-ଅତଃ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥ୍ୟମ୍-ଅପରମ୍ - other than this what is there to seek;
Translation
O Lord! devotion to Thee is sweet right from the beginning because of Thy glorious attributes. When such devotion becomes intense, it removes all sorrows of the devotee. At the final stage of devotion, the devotee experiences pure absolute Bliss coupled with knowledge of the Self. What more is there for one to seek?
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵିଧୂୟ କ୍ଲେଶାନ୍ମେ କୁରୁ ଚରଣୟୁଗ୍ମଂ ଧୃତରସଂ
ଭଵତ୍କ୍ଷେତ୍ରପ୍ରାପ୍ତୌ କରମପି ଚ ତେ ପୂଜନଵିଧୌ ।
ଭଵନ୍ମୂର୍ତ୍ୟାଲୋକେ ନୟନମଥ ତେ ପାଦତୁଲସୀ-
ପରିଘ୍ରାଣେ ଘ୍ରାଣଂ ଶ୍ରଵଣମପି ତେ ଚାରୁଚରିତେ ॥7॥
Meaning
ଵିଧୂୟ କ୍ଲେଶାନ୍-ମେ - removing all my sufferings; କୁରୁ - (please) conduct in such manner (that); ଚରଣ-ୟୁଗ୍ମମ୍ - (my) pair of feet; ଧୃତ-ରସମ୍ - (may) be delighted; ଭଵତ୍-କ୍ଷେତ୍ର-ପ୍ରାପ୍ତୌ - in reaching Thy temple; କରମ୍-ଅପି ଚ - and my hands; ତେ ପୂଜନ-ଵିଧୌ - in worshipping Thee with rituals; ଭଵତ୍-ମୂର୍ତି-ଆଲୋକେ - thy(auspicious) form, in seeing; ନୟନମ୍- - (my) eyes; ଅଥ ତେ ପାଦତୁଲସୀ-ପରିଘ୍ରାଣେ - then, at Thy feet the offered tulsi fragrance, in smelling; ଘ୍ରାଣମ୍ - (my) nose; ଶ୍ରଵଣମ୍-ଅପି - and also my ears; ତେ ଚାରୁ-ଚରିତେ - (in hearing) Thy charming deeds and excellences;
Translation
O Lord! Be graceful to remove all my afflictions so that my two feet will take delight in reaching Thy temple, my hands in performing worship to Thee,my eyes in seeing Thy enchanting form, my nose in enjoying the fragrance of the Tulsi leaves offered at Thy feet and my ears in hearing the stories of Thy glories and great deeds.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ପ୍ରଭୂତାଧିଵ୍ୟାଧିପ୍ରସଭଚଲିତେ ମାମକହୃଦି
ତ୍ଵଦୀୟଂ ତଦ୍ରୂପଂ ପରମସୁଖଚିଦ୍ରୂପମୁଦିୟାତ୍ ।
ଉଦଂଚଦ୍ରୋମାଂଚୋ ଗଲିତବହୁହର୍ଷାଶ୍ରୁନିଵହୋ
ୟଥା ଵିସ୍ମର୍ୟାସଂ ଦୁରୁପଶମପୀଡାପରିଭଵାନ୍ ॥8॥
Meaning
ପ୍ରଭୂତ-ଆଧି-ଵ୍ୟାଧି-ପ୍ରସଭ-ଚଲିତେ - troubled by the incessant mental and physical sufferings; ମାମକ-ହୃଦି - in my mind; ତ୍ଵଦୀୟଂ ତତ୍-ରୂପଂ ପରମ-ସୁଖ-ଚିତ୍-ରୂପମ୍- - Thy that form which is of the nature of Supreme Bliss Consciousness; ଉଦିୟାତ୍ - may it manifest itself; ଉଦଂଚ୍ତ-ରୋମାଂଚଃ - (with) exciting horripilation; ଗଲିତ-ବହୁ-ହର୍ଷ-ଅଶ୍ରୁ-ନିଵହଃ - with tears of joy (of ecstasy) flowing profusely; ୟଥା ଵିସ୍ମର୍ୟାସଂ - so that I may forget completely (without effort); ଦୁରୁପଶମ-ପୀଡା-ପରିଭଵାନ୍ - all (my) endless woes caused by incurable ailments;
Translation
O Lord! In my mind, which is now very agitated due to mental and physical afflictions, may Thy beautiful form manifest, which is of the nature of Knowledge-Bliss absolute. This will excite me with supreme devotion causing horripilation all over the body and tears flowing in ecstasy and in such a thrill, my endless sorrows will melt into insignificance.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ମରୁଦ୍ଗେହାଧୀଶ ତ୍ଵୟି ଖଲୁ ପରାଂଚୋଽପି ସୁଖିନୋ
ଭଵତ୍ସ୍ନେହୀ ସୋଽହଂ ସୁବହୁ ପରିତପ୍ୟେ ଚ କିମିଦମ୍ ।
ଅକୀର୍ତିସ୍ତେ ମା ଭୂଦ୍ଵରଦ ଗଦଭାରଂ ପ୍ରଶମୟନ୍
ଭଵତ୍ ଭକ୍ତୋତ୍ତଂସଂ ଝଟିତି କୁରୁ ମାଂ କଂସଦମନ ॥9॥
Meaning
ମରୁତ୍-ଗେହ-ଅଧୀଶ - O Lord of Guruvayur; ତ୍ଵୟି ଖଲୁ ପରାଂଚଃ-ଅପି ସୁଖିନଃ - in Thee, even those who are indifferent are (living) happily; ଭଵତ୍-ସ୍ନେହୀ ସଃ-ଅହଂ - (whereas) a devotee of Thine like me; ସୁବହୁ ପରିତପ୍ୟେ ଚ - (am) suffering too much; କିମ-ଇଦମ୍ - what is this! (how come); ଅକୀର୍ତିଃ-ତେ ମା ଭୂତ୍ - let no disrepute come to Thee (because of this anomaly); ଵରଦ - O Bestower of boons!; ଗଦଭାରଂ ପ୍ରଶମୟନ୍ - eradicate (my) afflictions; ଭଵତ୍-ଭକ୍ତ-ଉତ୍ତଂସଂ - (make me) the best of Thy devotees; ଝଟିତି କୁରୁ ମାଂ - quickly make me; କଂସଦମନ - O Slayer of Kamsa!;
Translation
O Lord of Guruvaayur! I find that even those who are indifferent to Thee are leading a happy life. O Bestower of boons! Even though I am an ardent devotee of Thine, I am undergoing various sufferings. Why is this so? O Lord! Will this not bring disrepute to Thee? Hence, O slayer of Kamsa! Kindly eradicate my diseases and soon make me one of your foremost devotees.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କିମୁକ୍ତୈର୍ଭୂୟୋଭିସ୍ତଵ ହି କରୁଣା ୟାଵଦୁଦିୟା-
ଦହଂ ତାଵଦ୍ଦେଵ ପ୍ରହିତଵିଵିଧାର୍ତପ୍ରଲପିତଃ ।
ପୁରଃ କ୍ଲୃପ୍ତେ ପାଦେ ଵରଦ ତଵ ନେଷ୍ୟାମି ଦିଵସା-
ନ୍ୟଥାଶକ୍ତି ଵ୍ୟକ୍ତଂ ନତିନୁତିନିଷେଵା ଵିରଚୟନ୍ ॥10॥
Meaning
କିମ୍-ଉକ୍ତୈଃ - ଭୂୟୋଭିଃ- - what is the use of mere talking again and again; ତଵ ହି କରୁଣା - Thy compassion, indeed; ୟାଵତ୍-ଉଦିୟାତ୍- - till (it) arises (descends); ଅହଂ ତାଵତ୍- - till then I; ଦେଵ - O Lord!; ପ୍ରହିତ-ଵିଵିଧ-ଆର୍ତ-ପ୍ରଲପିତଃ - (I will be) giving up lamentations of all kinds; ପୁରଃ କ୍ଲୃପ୍ତେ ପାଦେ - At (Thy) feet which are in front of me; ଵରଦ ତଵ - O Bestower of Boons! (at) Thy (feet); ନେଷ୍ୟାମି ଦିଵସାନ୍- - I shall spend my days; ୟଥାଶକ୍ତି - to the best of my ability; ଵ୍ୟକ୍ତଂ - obviously (certainly); ନତି-ନୁତି-ନିଷେଵା - prostrating, singing Thy praises and worshipping (Thee); ଵିରଚୟନ୍ - performing (Thy worship);
Translation
O Lord! What is the use of my mere prattling? O Bestower of boons! I have resolved that till Thy Grace descends on me, giving up all my lamentations, I shall do prostration at Thy holy feet which are in front of me, sing Thy glories and do service to Thee as best as I can. Thus worship Thee.
