ବଲସମେତବଲାନୁଗତୋ ଭଵାନ୍ ପୁରମଗାହତ ଭୀଷ୍ମକମାନିତଃ ।
ଦ୍ଵିଜସୁତଂ ତ୍ଵଦୁପାଗମଵାଦିନଂ ଧୃତରସା ତରସା ପ୍ରଣନାମ ସା ॥1॥
Meaning
ବଲ-ସମେତ- - along with an army; ବଲ-ଅନୁଗତଃ - by Balaraam followed; ଭଵାନ୍ - (were) Thou; ପୁରମ୍-ଅଗାହତ - the city of (Kundina) entered; ଭୀଷ୍ମକ-ମାନିତଃ - Bhishmaka honoured (Thee and Balaraam); ଦ୍ଵିଜ-ସୁତଂ - to the Braahmin boy; ତ୍ଵତ୍-ଉପାଗମ-ଵାଦିନଂ - who Thy coming had announced; ଧୃତରସା ତରସା - with joy at once; ପ୍ରଣନାମ ସା - prostrated she (Rukmini);
Translation
Thou were respectfully received along with Balaraam who had followed Thee with an army, by king Bhishmaka, as Thou entered the city of Kundina. Rukmini at once honoured the Braahmin boy with salutations who gave her the news of Thy arrival in the city.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭୁଵନକାଂତମଵେକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଭଵଦ୍ଵପୁର୍ନୃପସୁତସ୍ୟ ନିଶମ୍ୟ ଚ ଚେଷ୍ଟିତମ୍ ।
ଵିପୁଲଖେଦଜୁଷାଂ ପୁରଵାସିନାଂ ସରୁଦିତୈରୁଦିତୈରଗମନ୍ନିଶା ॥2॥
Meaning
ଭୁଵନ-କାଂତମ୍-ଅଵେକ୍ଷ୍ୟ - in the world most beautiful (Thee) seeing; ଭଵତ୍-ଵପୁଃ- - Thy form; ନୃପ-ସୁତସ୍ୟ - the king's son's (Rukmi's); ନିଶମ୍ୟ ଚ ଚେଷ୍ଟିତମ୍ - hearing the effort; ଵିପୁଲ-ଖେଦ-ଜୁଷାମ୍ - great sorrow overcome with; ପୁର-ଵାସିନାଂ - the public (of Kundina); ସରୁଦିତୈଃ-ଉଦିତୈଃ- - with tears speaking about; ଅଗମତ୍-ନିଶା - spent the night;
Translation
The public of Kundina saw Thy most beautiful form in the world, and heard about the ill effort of Rukmi, the king's son. They were smitten with great sorrow with the state of affairs in the city and spent a sleepless night sadly and tearfully talking about it all.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତଦନୁ ଵଂଦିତୁମିଂଦୁମୁଖୀ ଶିଵାଂ ଵିହିତମଂଗଲଭୂଷଣଭାସୁରା ।
ନିରଗମତ୍ ଭଵଦର୍ପିତଜୀଵିତା ସ୍ଵପୁରତଃ ପୁରତଃ ସୁଭଟାଵୃତା ॥3॥
Meaning
ତଦନୁ ଵଂଦିତୁମ୍- - then to worship; ଇଂଦୁମୁଖୀ ଶିଵାଂ - the moon faced (Rukmini), Paarvati; ଵିହିତ-ମଂଗଲ- - adorning auspicious; ଭୂଷଣ-ଭାସୁରା - ornaments (and attire) shining; ନିରଗମତ୍ - came out; ଭଵତ୍-ଅର୍ପିତ-ଜୀଵିତା - to Thee having dedicated her life; ସ୍ଵପୁରତଃ ପୁରତଃ - of her chambers, in front; ସୁଭଟ-ଆଵୃତା - by guards surrounded;
Translation
Then, the next morning, the moon faced beauty Rukmini, who had already dedicated her life to Thee, came out of her chambers to worship Paarvati. She was bedecked with auspicious ornaments and attire and was well surrounded by the guards.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କୁଲଵଧୂଭିରୁପେତ୍ୟ କୁମାରିକା ଗିରିସୁତାଂ ପରିପୂଜ୍ୟ ଚ ସାଦରମ୍ ।
ମୁହୁରୟାଚତ ତତ୍ପଦପଂକଜେ ନିପତିତା ପତିତାଂ ତଵ କେଵଲମ୍ ॥4॥
Meaning
କୁଲ-ଵଧୁଭିଃ-ଉପେତ୍ୟ - with the noble women reaching; କୁମାରିକା - the princess; ଗିରିସୁତାଂ ପରିପୂଜ୍ୟ - Paarvati worshipped with fervour; ଚ ସାଦରମ୍ - and with reverence; ମୁହୁଃ-ଅୟାଚତ - again and again prayed; ତତ୍-ପଦ-ପଂକଜେ - on her lotus feet; ନିପତିତା - prostrating; ପତିତାଂ ତଵ କେଵଲଂ - as husband Thee only;
Translation
The princess reached the temple of goddess Paarvati in the company of noble women. With great reverence and fervour she worshipped the goddess and prostrated at her feet praying again and again that Thou alone be her husband.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ସମଵଲୋକକୁତୂହଲସଂକୁଲେ ନୃପକୁଲେ ନିଭୃତଂ ତ୍ଵୟି ଚ ସ୍ଥିତେ ।
ନୃପସୁତା ନିରଗାଦ୍ଗିରିଜାଲୟାତ୍ ସୁରୁଚିରଂ ରୁଚିରଂଜିତଦିଙ୍ମୁଖା ॥5॥

ସମଵଲୋକ- - the sight (of Rukmini); କୁତୂହଲ-ସଂକୁଲେ - expecting (to see) joyfully gathered; ନୃପ-କୁଲେ - the assembly of kings; ନିଭୃତଂ ତ୍ଵୟି - silently aloof when Thou; ଚ ସ୍ଥିତେ - and were standing; ନୃପ-ସୁତା ନିରଗାତ୍- - the princess came out; ଗିରିଜା-ଆଲୟାତ୍ - from goddess Paarvati's temple; ସୁରୁଚିରଂ - in a charming manner; ରୁଚିର-ରଂଜିତ- - brilliantly lighting; ଦିକ୍-ମୁଖା - the quarters;
Translation
The assembly of kings had gathered joyfully with the expectation to see Rukmini. Thou stood among them in a silently aloof manner. Just then the princess came out of the temple of goddess Paarvati, in a charming manner causing the quarters to light up with her brilliance.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭୁଵନମୋହନରୂପରୁଚା ତଦା ଵିଵଶିତାଖିଲରାଜକଦଂବୟା ।
ତ୍ଵମପି ଦେଵ କଟାକ୍ଷଵିମୋକ୍ଷଣୈଃ ପ୍ରମଦୟା ମଦୟାଂଚକୃଷେ ମନାକ୍ ॥6॥

ଭୁଵନ-ମୋହନ- - the world enchanting; ରୂପ-ରୁଚା ତଦା - beauty enthralling then; ଵିଵଶିତ-ଅଖିଲ- - bewitched the entire; ରାଜ-କଦଂବୟା - king's assembly; ତ୍ଵମ୍-ଅପି ଦେଵ - Thou also O Lord!; କଟାକ୍ଷ-ଵିମୋକ୍ଷଣୈଃ - by sidelong glances casting; ପ୍ରମଦୟା - by the enchanting one (Rukmini); ମଦୟାନ୍-ଚକୃଷେ - were enchanted; ମନାକ୍ - somewhat;
Translation
Then the enthralling beauty Rukmini bewitched the entire assembly of kings gathered there. Thou also, O Lord! Were somewhat enchanted by her as she cast her sidelong glances.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କ୍ଵନୁ ଗମିଷ୍ୟସି ଚଂଦ୍ରମୁଖୀତି ତାଂ ସରସମେତ୍ୟ କରେଣ ହରନ୍ କ୍ଷଣାତ୍ ।
ସମଧିରୋପ୍ୟ ରଥଂ ତ୍ଵମପାହୃଥା ଭୁଵି ତତୋ ଵିତତୋ ନିନଦୋ ଦ୍ଵିଷାମ୍ ॥7॥

କ୍ଵନୁ ଗମିଷ୍ୟସି - where indeed are you going; ଚଂଦ୍ରମୁଖୀ-ଇତି - O Moon faced one! Thus; ତାଂ ସରସମ୍-ଏତ୍ୟ - her quickly reaching; କରେଣ ହରନ୍ କ୍ଷଣାତ୍ - by hand leading away instantly; ସମଧିରୋପ୍ୟ ରଥଂ - helping her in the chariot; ତ୍ଵମ୍-ଅପାହୃଥା - Thou carried away; ଭୁଵି ତତଃ ଵିତତଃ - all over the earth then spreading; ନିନଦଃ ଦ୍ଵିଷାମ୍ - loud protest among the enemies;
Translation
Addressing her admiringly, Thou asked her, 'O moon-faced one! where indeed are you going?' Thou hastily reached her and holding her by her arm Thou led her to the chariot and helping her in it, Thou carried her away. Whereupon there spread a loud protest among Thy rivals.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କ୍ଵ ନୁ ଗତଃ ପଶୁପାଲ ଇତି କ୍ରୁଧା କୃତରଣା ୟଦୁଭିଶ୍ଚ ଜିତା ନୃପାଃ ।
ନ ତୁ ଭଵାନୁଦଚାଲ୍ୟତ ତୈରହୋ ପିଶୁନକୈଃ ଶୁନକୈରିଵ କେସରୀ ॥8॥
Meaning
କ୍ଵ ନୁ ଗତଃ - where indeed has he gone; ପଶୁପାଲ ଇତି - the cowherd, thus; କ୍ରୁଧା କୃତରଣା - enraged (and) fighting; ୟଦୁଭିଃ-ଚ - by the Yadus, and; ଜିତାଃ-ନୃପାଃ - won over, the kings; ନ ତୁ ଭଵାନ୍- - not indeed Thou; ଉଦଚାଲ୍ୟତ - were to be swayed; ତୈଃ-ଅହୋ - by them, O what a wonder!; ପିଶୁନକୈଃ - the wicked ones; ଶୁନକୈଃ-ଇଵ କେସରୀ - by dogs, just as, the lion;
Translation
Where indeed has he gone, the cowherd?' Thus the enraged kings shouted and put up a fight. They were defeated by the Yaadavas. O what a wonder! Thou were not swayed in the least by the wicked ones, just as the lion is not swayed by the barking of the dogs.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତଦନୁ ରୁକ୍ମିଣମାଗତମାହଵେ ଵଧମୁପେକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ନିବଧ୍ୟ ଵିରୂପୟନ୍ ।
ହୃତମଦଂ ପରିମୁଚ୍ୟ ବଲୋକ୍ତିଭିଃ ପୁରମୟା ରମୟା ସହ କାଂତୟା ॥9॥
Meaning
ତଦନୁ ରୁକ୍ମିଣମ୍- - thereafter Rukmi; ଆଗତମ୍-ଆହଵେ - (who had) come for battle; ଵଧମ୍-ଉପେକ୍ଷ୍ୟ - to kill refraining; ନିବଧ୍ୟ ଵିରୂପୟନ୍ - binding and disfiguring (him); ହୃତ-ମଦମ୍ - humbling (his) pride; ପରିମୁଚ୍ୟ - (then) releasing (him); ବଲ-ଉକ୍ତିଭିଃ - by Balaraam's direction; ପୁରମ୍-ଅୟାଃ - came to town; ରମୟା ସହ କାଂତୟା - with Ramaa (Thy) wife (Rukmini);
Translation
Rukmi then came to battle with Thee. Refraining to kill him, Thou bound him and disfigured him and thus humbled his pride. At the instance of Balaraama Thou released him of his bondage and returned to Thy city Dwaarkaa with Thy wife Rukmini who was Ramaa (Laxmi) herself.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନଵସମାଗମଲଜ୍ଜିତମାନସାଂ ପ୍ରଣୟକୌତୁକଜୃଂଭିତମନ୍ମଥାମ୍ ।
ଅରମୟଃ ଖଲୁ ନାଥ ୟଥାସୁଖଂ ରହସି ତାଂ ହସିତାଂଶୁଲସନ୍ମୁଖୀମ୍ ॥10॥
Meaning
ନଵ-ସମାଗମ - newness of being with her husband; ଲଜ୍ଜିତ-ମାନସାମ୍ - with a shy mind; ପ୍ରଣୟ-କୌତୁକ- - love and joy; ଜୃଂଭିତ-ମନ୍ମଥାମ୍ - increasing the passion; ଅରମୟଃ ଖଲୁ - sported (Thou) indeed; ନାଥ - O Lord!; ୟଥା-ସୁଖଂ - so as to (make her) happy; ରହସି ତାଂ - in private, her; ହସିତ-ଅଂଶୁଲ-ସନ୍ମୁଖୀମ୍ - smile rays brightening her face;
Translation
Rukmini was shyly caught between the new experience of being with her husband and the increased passion caused by the joy of experiencing love. O Lord! Thou sported with her in privacy so as to delight her whose face was beaming with the rays of her smile.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵିଵିଧନର୍ମଭିରେଵମହର୍ନିଶଂ ପ୍ରମଦମାକଲୟନ୍ ପୁନରେକଦା ।
ଋଜୁମତେଃ କିଲ ଵକ୍ରଗିରା ଭଵାନ୍ ଵରତନୋରତନୋଦତିଲୋଲତାମ୍ ॥11॥
Meaning
ଵିଵିଧ-ନର୍ମଭିଃ- - by various jokes; ଏଵମ୍-ଅହଃ-ନିଶମ୍ - thus day and night; ପ୍ରମଦମ୍-ଆକଲୟନ୍ - delight creating; ପୁନଃ-ଏକଦା - again one day; ଋଜୁ-ମତେଃ - simple minded (her); କିଲ ଵକ୍ର-ଗିରା - certainly with doubtful words; ଭଵାନ୍ - Thou; ଵର-ତନୋଃ-ଅତନୋତ୍- - for the beautiful one created; ଅତି-ଲୋଲତାମ୍ - severe agitation;
Translation
Day and night Thou delighted the beautiful Rukmini by various jokes and pleasant talks. Then one day, by Thy doubtful words the simple minded one was very much agitated.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତଦଧିକୈରଥ ଲାଲନକୌଶଲୈଃ ପ୍ରଣୟିନୀମଧିକଂ ସୁଖୟନ୍ନିମାମ୍ ।
ଅୟି ମୁକୁଂଦ ଭଵଚ୍ଚରିତାନି ନଃ ପ୍ରଗଦତାଂ ଗଦତାଂତିମପାକୁରୁ ॥12॥
Meaning
ତତ୍-ଅଧିକୈଃ-ଅଥ - then more than before; ଲାଲନ-କୌଶଲୈଃ - by affection expertises; ପ୍ରଣୟିନୀମ୍-ଅଧିକଂ - the beloved, evermore; ସୁଖୟନ୍-ଇମାମ୍ - delighting her; ଅୟି ମୁକୁଂଦ - O Bestower of liberation!; ଭଵତ୍-ଚରିତାନି - Thy excellences; ନଃ ପ୍ରଗଦତାଂ - we narrating; ଗଦ-ତାଂତିମ୍-ଅପାକୁରୁ - (our) disease causing sufferings do remove;
Translation
More than ever before by Thy affectionate expertises Thou delighted this Thy beloved even more. O Bestower of Liberation! Liberate me from the sufferings caused by the disease, who is always narrating Thy excellences.
