ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଇତି ତ୍ଵୟି ରସାକୁଲଂ ରମିତଵଲ୍ଲଭେ ଵଲ୍ଲଵାଃ
କଦାପି ପୁରମଂବିକାମିତୁରଂବିକାକାନନେ ।
ସମେତ୍ୟ ଭଵତା ସମଂ ନିଶି ନିଷେଵ୍ୟ ଦିଵ୍ୟୋତ୍ସଵଂ
ସୁଖଂ ସୁଷୁପୁରଗ୍ରସୀଦ୍ଵ୍ରଜପମୁଗ୍ରନାଗସ୍ତଦା ॥1॥

Meaning
ଇତି ତ୍ଵୟି - in this manner (when) Thou; ରସ-ଆକୁଲଂ - in bliss immersed; ରମିତ-ଵଲ୍ଲଭେ - were entertaining the Gopikaas; ଵଲ୍ଲଵାଃ କଦାପି - (at that time) the Gopas once; ପୁରମ୍-ଅଂବିକା-କମିତୁଃ- - (to) the temple of Ambikaa's husband (Shiva); ଅଂବିକା-କାନନେ - in the Ambika (named) forest; ସମେତ୍ୟ ଭଵତା ସମଂ - going along with Thee; ନିଶି ନିଷେଵ୍ୟ - in the night having performed; ଦିଵ୍ୟ-ଉତ୍ସଵଂ - the divine festival; ସୁଖଂ ସୁଷୁପୁଃ- - happily slept; ଅଗ୍ରସୀତ୍-ଵ୍ରଜପମ୍- - swallowed Nanda Gopa; ଉଗ୍ରନାଗଃ-ତଦା - a fierce snake then;

Translation
In this manner, as Thou were entertaining the Gopikaas and they were immersed in bliss, the Gopas went to the temple of Lord Shiva, Ambikaa's (Paarvati's) husband. Thou went along with them to the temple which was in the forest named Ambikaa. After the divine festival had been performed, they all slept happily in the night. Then a fierce snake swallowed Nanda Gopa.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ସମୁନ୍ମୁଖମଥୋଲ୍ମୁକୈରଭିହତେଽପି ତସ୍ମିନ୍ ବଲା-
ଦମୁଂଚତି ଭଵତ୍ପଦେ ନ୍ୟପତି ପାହି ପାହୀତି ତୈଃ ।
ତଦା ଖଲୁ ପଦା ଭଵାନ୍ ସମୁପଗମ୍ୟ ପସ୍ପର୍ଶ ତଂ
ବଭୌ ସ ଚ ନିଜାଂ ତନୁଂ ସମୁପସାଦ୍ୟ ଵୈଦ୍ୟଧରୀମ୍ ॥2॥

Meaning
ସମୁନ୍ମୁଖମ୍- - who was looking up; ଅଥ-ଉଲ୍ମୁକୈଃ- - then with burning logs of wood; ଅଭିହତେ-ଅପି-ତସ୍ମିନ୍ - being thrashed even, he; ବଲାତ୍-ଅମୁଂଚତି - from his hold did not release; ଭଵତ୍-ପଦେ ନ୍ୟପତି - on Thy feet fell (the Gopas); ପାହି ପାହି-ଇତି ତୈଃ - save save, thus by them (was said); ତଦା ଖଲୁ - then indeed; ପଦା ଭଵାନ୍ - by foot Thou; ସମୁପଗମ୍ୟ - going near; ପସ୍ପର୍ଶ ତଂ - touched him; ବଭୌ ସ ଚ - became he and; ନିଜାଂ ତନୁଂ - his own body; ସମୁପସାଦ୍ୟ - attaining; ଵୈଦ୍ୟଧରୀମ୍ - Vidyaadharee (form);

Translation
The fierce snake was looking up. In spite of being thrashed with burning logs of wood, it did not loose hold of his prey. The Gopas fell on Thy feet and prayed for protection. Then indeed Thou went near and touched him with Thy foot, and he became his own body and attained the former form of Vidyaadharee.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ସୁଦର୍ଶନଧର ପ୍ରଭୋ ନନୁ ସୁଦର୍ଶନାଖ୍ୟୋଽସ୍ମ୍ୟହଂ
ମୁନୀନ୍ କ୍ଵଚିଦପାହସଂ ତ ଇହ ମାଂ ଵ୍ୟଧୁର୍ଵାହସମ୍ ।
ଭଵତ୍ପଦସମର୍ପଣାଦମଲତାଂ ଗତୋଽସ୍ମୀତ୍ୟସୌ
ସ୍ତୁଵନ୍ ନିଜପଦଂ ୟୟୌ ଵ୍ରଜପଦଂ ଚ ଗୋପା ମୁଦା ॥3॥

Meaning
ସୁଦର୍ଶନଧର ପ୍ରଭୋ - Wielder of Sudarshana, O Lord!; ନନୁ ସୁଦର୍ଶନ-ଆଖ୍ୟଃ- - indeed Sudarshana named; ଅସ୍ମି-ଅହଂ - am I; ମୁନୀନ୍ କ୍ଵଚିତ୍- - the sages once; ଅପାହସଂ - (I) ridiculed; ତେ-ଇହ ମାଂ - they here me; ଵ୍ୟଧୁଃ-ଵାହସମ୍ - made a python; ଭଵତ୍-ପଦ- - Thy feet; ସମର୍ପଣାତ୍- - by contact; ଅମଲତାଂ ଗତଃ-ଅସ୍ମି - purification reached (have) I; ଇତି-ଅସୌ ସ୍ତୁଵନ୍ - thus he praising; ନିଜପଦଂ ୟୟୌ - (to) his own abode went; ଵ୍ରଜପଦଂ ଚ - and to Vraja; ଗୋପା ମୁଦା - the Gopas (went) happily;

Translation
O Lord! Wielder of Sudarshana! I am Sudarshana by name. Having sinned the sages for ridiculing them, they cursed me to remain here as a python. I have reached purification by the touch of Thy feet.' Thus praising Thee, he went back to his abode, while the Gopas also happily returned to Vraja.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କଦାପି ଖଲୁ ସୀରିଣା ଵିହରତି ତ୍ଵୟି ସ୍ତ୍ରୀଜନୈ-
ର୍ଜହାର ଧନଦାନୁଗଃ ସ କିଲ ଶଂଖଚୂଡୋଽବଲାଃ ।
ଅତିଦ୍ରୁତମନୁଦ୍ରୁତସ୍ତମଥ ମୁକ୍ତନାରୀଜନଂ
ରୁରୋଜିଥ ଶିରୋମଣିଂ ହଲଭୃତେ ଚ ତସ୍ୟାଦଦାଃ ॥4॥

Meaning
କଦାପି ଖଲୁ - once indeed; ସୀରିଣା ଵିହରତି - with Balaraam strolling about; ତ୍ଵୟି ସ୍ତ୍ରୀଜନୈଃ- - when Thou were (and) with the women folk; ଜହାର ଧନଦ-ଅନୁଗଃ - kidnapped, Kuber's emissary; ସ କିଲ - he indeed; ଶଂଖଚୂଡଃ- - Shankhachooda; ଅବଲାଃ - the women; ଅତିଦ୍ରୁତମ୍- - very hastily; ଅନୁଦ୍ରୁତଃ-ତମ୍-ଅଥ - (Thou) pursuing him, then; ମୁକ୍ତ-ନାରୀ-ଜନମ୍ - releasing the women folk; ରୁରୋଜିଥ - (Thou) killed him; ଶିରୋମଣିମ୍ - (and) the crest pearl; ହଲଭୃତେ ଚ - to Balaraam and; ତସ୍ୟ-ଅଦଦାଃ - his (Shankhacooda's) gave;

Translation
Once indeed in Balaraam's company and with the women folk Thou were strolling about. Shankhachooda, an emissary of Kubera, kidnapped the women. Thou hastily pursued him and killed him and liberated the women. Thou gave the crest pearl of Shankhachooda to Thy brother Balaraam.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଦିନେଷୁ ଚ ସୁହୃଜ୍ଜନୈସ୍ସହ ଵନେଷୁ ଲୀଲାପରଂ
ମନୋଭଵମନୋହରଂ ରସିତଵେଣୁନାଦାମୃତମ୍ ।
ଭଵଂତମମରୀଦୃଶାମମୃତପାରଣାଦାୟିନଂ
ଵିଚିଂତ୍ୟ କିମୁ ନାଲପନ୍ ଵିରହତାପିତା ଗୋପିକାଃ ॥5॥

Meaning
ଦିନେଷୁ ଚ - and all during the day; ସୁହୃତ୍-ଜନୈଃ-ସହ - with the friends; ଵନେଷୁ ଲୀଲାପରଂ - in the forest engaged in play; ମନୋଭଵ-ମନୋହରଂ - enchanting Cupid; ରସିତ-ଵେଣୁ- - lusciously, the flute's; ନାଦ-ଅମୃତମ୍ - notes flowing like nectar; ଭଵଂତମ୍- - Thee; ଅମରୀ-ଦୃଶାମ୍- - to the celestial damsels' sight; ଅମୃତ-ପାରଣା-ଦାୟିନଂ - nectar drink giving; ଵିଚିଂତ୍ୟ - thinking about (all this); କିମୁ ନ-ଆଲପନ୍ - what all did not lament; ଵିରହ-ତାପିତା - separation pangs suffering; ଗୋପିକାଃ - the Gopikaas;

Translation
During the day Thou were engaged in play with friends in the forest. Enchanting even Cupid, Thou played the flute with luscious notes flowing like nectar. Thy sight was like a drink of nectar to the eyes of the celestial damsels. Thinking about all this the Gopikaas suffered pangs of separation and what all lamentations did they not give in to.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭୋଜରାଜଭୃତକସ୍ତ୍ଵଥ କଶ୍ଚିତ୍ କଷ୍ଟଦୁଷ୍ଟପଥଦୃଷ୍ଟିରରିଷ୍ଟଃ ।
ନିଷ୍ଠୁରାକୃତିରପଷ୍ଠୁନିନାଦସ୍ତିଷ୍ଠତେ ସ୍ମ ଭଵତେ ଵୃଷରୂପୀ ॥6॥

Meaning
ଭୋଜରାଜ-ଭୃତକଃ- - Kamsaa's emissary; ତୁ-ଅଥ କଶ୍ଚିତ୍ - then some one; କଷ୍ଟ-ଦୁଷ୍ଟ- - cruel and evil; ପଥ-ଦୃଷ୍ଟିଃ-ଅରିଷ୍ଟଃ - ways looking for, (named) Arishta; ନିଷ୍ଠୁର-ଆକୃତିଃ- - terrific in appearance; ଅପଷ୍ଠୁ-ନିନାଦଃ- - (and) horrible bellowings; ତିଷ୍ଠତେ ସ୍ମ ଭଵତେ - stood before Thee; ଵୃଷରୂପୀ - in the form of a bull;

Translation
Once, some emissary of Kansa, always looking for ways to do cruel and evil deeds, Arishta by name, terrific in appearance, bellowing horribly, in the form of a bull stood before Thee.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଶାକ୍ଵରୋଽଥ ଜଗତୀଧୃତିହାରୀ ମୂର୍ତିମେଷ ବୃହତୀଂ ପ୍ରଦଧାନଃ ।
ପଂକ୍ତିମାଶୁ ପରିଘୂର୍ଣ୍ୟ ପଶୂନାଂ ଛଂଦସାଂ ନିଧିମଵାପ ଭଵଂତମ୍ ॥7॥

Meaning
ଶାକ୍ଵରଃ-ଅଥ - (this) bull then; ଜଗତୀ-ଧୃତି-ହାରୀ - (who was) the world's peace plunderer; ମୂର୍ତିମ୍-ଏଷ - in a form, he; ବୃହତୀଂ ପ୍ରଦଧାନଃ - (which was) huge assumed; ପଂକ୍ତିମ୍-ଆଶୁ - the herd soon; ପରିଘୂର୍ଣ୍ୟ - driving away; ପଶୂନାଂ - of the cows; ଛଂଦସାଂ ନିଧିମ୍- - of the Veda's repository (Thee); ଅଵାପ ଭଵଂତମ୍ - approached Thee;

Translation
Then this bull who was the plunderer of the peace of the world, he assumed a form which was huge and driving away the herds of cows, soon approached Thee who are repository of Vedas.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତୁଂଗଶୃଂଗମୁଖମାଶ୍ଵଭିୟଂତଂ ସଂଗୃହୟ୍ୟ ରଭସାଦଭିୟଂ ତମ୍ ।
ଭଦ୍ରରୂପମପି ଦୈତ୍ୟମଭଦ୍ରଂ ମର୍ଦୟନ୍ନମଦୟଃ ସୁରଲୋକମ୍ ॥8॥

Meaning
ତୁଂଗ-ଶୃଂଗ-ମୁଖମ୍- - raising the horns and head; ଆଶୁ-ଅଭିୟଂତଂ - hastily rushing; ସଂଗୃହୟ୍ୟ ରଭସାତ୍- - catching swiftly; ଅଭିୟଂ ତମ୍ - fearlessly, him; ଭଦ୍ର-ରୂପମ୍-ଅପି - (who was) in an auspicious form, though; ଦୈତ୍ୟମ୍-ଅଭଦ୍ରମ୍ - (he was) an Asura inauspicious; ମର୍ଦୟନ୍-ଅମଦୟଃ - killing, (Thou) delighted; ସୁରଲୋକମ୍ - the gods;

Translation
Raising his horns and head he was rushing hastily towards Thee. Thou caught hold of him swiftly and fearlessly who was an inauspicious Asura, though he was in an auspicious form of a bull. Thou then crushed him to death and so delighted the gods.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଚିତ୍ରମଦ୍ୟ ଭଗଵନ୍ ଵୃଷଘାତାତ୍ ସୁସ୍ଥିରାଽଜନି ଵୃଷସ୍ଥିତିରୁର୍ଵ୍ୟାମ୍ ।
ଵର୍ଧତେ ଚ ଵୃଷଚେତସି ଭୂୟାନ୍ ମୋଦ ଇତ୍ୟଭିନୁତୋଽସି ସୁରୈସ୍ତ୍ଵମ୍ ॥9॥

Meaning
ଚିତ୍ରମ୍-ଅଦ୍ୟ - surprisingly now (today); ଭଗଵନ୍ - O Lord!; ଵୃଷ-ଘାତାତ୍ - by the bull's killing; ସୁସ୍ଥିରା-ଅଜନି - very firm has become; ଵୃଷ-ସ୍ଥିତିଃ- - the righteousness (Dharma's) status; ଉର୍ଵ୍ୟାମ୍ - on the earth; ଵର୍ଧତେ ଚ - and is increasing; ଵୃଷ-ଚେତସି - in Indra's mind; ଭୂୟାନ୍ ମୋଦ - great joy; ଇତି-ଅଭିନୁତଃ-ଅସି - thus praised were; ସୁରୈଃ-ତ୍ଵମ୍ - by the gods Thou;

Translation
"O Lord! It is amazing that today by the killing of the bull, the status of righteousness (Dharma) is strengthened on the earth. The great joy in Indra's mind is also enhanced." Thus Thou were praised by the gods.

ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଔକ୍ଷକାଣି ପରିଧାଵତ ଦୂରଂ ଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟତାମୟମିହୋକ୍ଷଵିଭେଦୀ ।
ଇତ୍ଥମାତ୍ତହସିତୈଃ ସହ ଗୋପୈର୍ଗେହଗସ୍ତ୍ଵମଵ ଵାତପୁରେଶ ॥10॥

Meaning
ଔକ୍ଷକାଣି - O bulls; ପରିଧାଵତ ଦୂରଂ - run away far; ଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟତାମ୍- - see; ଅୟମ୍-ଇହ- - this here; ଉକ୍ଷଵିଭେଦୀ - the bull slayer; ଇତ୍ଥମ୍-ଆତ୍ତ-ହସିତୈଃ - thus making jokes; ସହ ଗୋପୈଃ- - with the Gopas; ଗେହଗଃ-ତ୍ଵମ୍- - went home Thou; ଅଵ ଵାତପୁରେଶ - save me O Lord of Guruvaayur;

Translation
O bulls! Run far away. See here is this slayer of bulls.' Thou went home with the Gopas who were joking in this manner. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Save me.
