ଅନ୍ୟାଵତାରନିକରେଷ୍ଵନିରୀକ୍ଷିତଂ ତେ
ଭୂମାତିରେକମଭିଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ତଦାଘମୋକ୍ଷେ ।
ବ୍ରହ୍ମା ପରୀକ୍ଷିତୁମନାଃ ସ ପରୋକ୍ଷଭାଵଂ
ନିନ୍ୟେଽଥ ଵତ୍ସକଗଣାନ୍ ପ୍ରଵିତତ୍ୟ ମାୟାମ୍ ॥1॥
Meaning
ଅନ୍ୟ-ଅଵତାର-ନିକରେଷୁ- - in the other lot of incarnations; ଅନିରୀକ୍ଷିତଂ ତେ - not having seen Thy; ଭୂମାତିରେକମ୍-ଅଭିଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ - divine majesties (now) seeing; ତଦା-ଅଘ-ମୋକ୍ଷେ - then (that) in Aghaasura's salvation; ବ୍ରହ୍ମା ପରୀକ୍ଷିତୁ-ମନାଃ - Brahmaa to test (Thee) deciding; ସ ପରୋକ୍ଷଭାଵଂ - he (to) invisibleness; ନିନ୍ୟେ-ଅଥ - took then; ଵତ୍ସକ-ଗଣାନ୍ - the herds of calves; ପ୍ରଵିତତ୍ୟ ମାୟାମ୍ - extending (his power) of Maayaa;
Translation
In all the other incarnations of Thee put together, not having seen such majesties as in the salvation of Aghaasura, Brahmaa decided to test Thy powers. He extended his power of Maayaa, illusion, and took the herds of calves into invisibleness, and hid them.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵତ୍ସାନଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଵିଵଶେ ପଶୁପୋତ୍କରେ ତା-
ନାନେତୁକାମ ଇଵ ଧାତୃମତାନୁଵର୍ତୀ ।
ତ୍ଵଂ ସାମିଭୁକ୍ତକବଲୋ ଗତଵାଂସ୍ତଦାନୀଂ
ଭୁକ୍ତାଂସ୍ତିରୋଽଧିତ ସରୋଜଭଵଃ କୁମାରାନ୍ ॥2॥
Meaning
ଵତ୍ସାନ୍-ଅନଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ - the calves not seeing; ଵିଵଶେ ପଶୁପ-ଉତ୍କରେ - worried, when the group of gopa boys were; ତାନ୍-ଆନେତୁକାମ ଇଵ - them trying to bring back as though; ଧାତୃ-ମତ-ଅନୁଵର୍ତୀ - (but in reality) Brahmaa's intention following; ତ୍ଵଂ ସାମିଭୁକ୍ତ-କବଲଃ - Thou having a half eaten ball of rice; ଗତଵାନ୍-ତଦାନୀମ୍ - went ,then; ଭୁକ୍ତାନ୍-ତିରୋଽଧିତ - while they were eating, made (them) to disappear; ସରୋଜଭଵଃ କୁମାରାନ୍ - the lotus -born Brahmaa, the boys;
Translation
The Gopa boys were worried by the disappearance of the calves. As though trying to bring them back, Thou went away from there with a half eaten ball of rice in hand. In reality, Thou made it convenient for Brahmaa to carry out his intention, who then made the boys also disappear while they were eating food.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵତ୍ସାୟିତସ୍ତଦନୁ ଗୋପଗଣାୟିତସ୍ତ୍ଵଂ
ଶିକ୍ୟାଦିଭାଂଡମୁରଲୀଗଵଲାଦିରୂପଃ ।
ପ୍ରାଗ୍ଵଦ୍ଵିହୃତ୍ୟ ଵିପିନେଷୁ ଚିରାୟ ସାୟଂ
ତ୍ଵଂ ମାୟୟାଽଥ ବହୁଧା ଵ୍ରଜମାୟୟାଥ ॥3॥
Meaning
ଵତ୍ସାୟିତଃ-ତଦନୁ - assuming the form of the calves, thereupon; ଗୋପଗଣାୟିତଃ-ତ୍ଵଂ - assuming the form of the gopa boys, Thou; ଶିକ୍ୟ-ଆଦି- - sling etc.,; ଭାଂଡ-ମୁରଲୀ- - vessels, flutes,; ଗଵଲ-ଆଦି-ରୂପଃ - horns etc., forms taking; ପ୍ରାକ୍-ଵତ୍-ଵିହୃତ୍ୟ - like before playing around; ଵିପିନେଷୁ ଚିରାୟ - in the woods for long; ସାୟଂ ତ୍ଵଂ - in the evening Thou; ମାୟୟା-ଅଥ ବହୁଧା - by Thy power, then, in many forms; ଵ୍ରଜମ୍-ଆୟୟାଥ - to Gokula returned;
Translation
There upon by Maayaa Thou assumed the form of the calves and the boys adorned with slings, vessels, flutes horns etc., and played around in the woods for long. In the evening in those many forms Thou returned to Gokul.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତ୍ଵାମେଵ ଶିକ୍ୟଗଵଲାଦିମୟଂ ଦଧାନୋ
ଭୂୟସ୍ତ୍ଵମେଵ ପଶୁଵତ୍ସକବାଲରୂପଃ ।
ଗୋରୂପିଣୀଭିରପି ଗୋପଵଧୂମୟୀଭି-
ରାସାଦିତୋଽସି ଜନନୀଭିରତିପ୍ରହର୍ଷାତ୍ ॥4॥
Meaning
ତ୍ଵାମ୍-ଏଵ - Thee alone; ଶିକ୍ୟ-ଗଵଲ-ଆଦି-ମୟଂ - in the form of slings and horns; ଦଧାନଃ - holding (carrying); ଭୂୟଃ-ତ୍ଵମ୍-ଏଵ - again Thee alone; ପଶୁ-ଵତ୍ସକ-ବାଲ-ରୂପଃ - in the form of the calves and boys; ଗୋ-ରୂପିଣୀଭିଃ-ଅପି - and also (by Thee) in the form of cows; ଗୋପ-ଵଧୂମୟୀଭିଃ - and (by Thee) in the form of Gopikas; ଆସାଦିତଃ-ଅସି - were received (welcomed); ଜନନୀଭିଃ- - by the mothers; ଅତି-ପ୍ରହର୍ଷାତ୍ - with great joy;
Translation
Thou alone were in the form of the slings and horns held by the gopaa boys who were also Thou alone in their form. The cows and calves were also Thy form alone. The mothers, that is, the Gopikas and cows received the gopa boys and the calves with great joy and love.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଜୀଵଂ ହି କଂଚିଦଭିମାନଵଶାତ୍ସ୍ଵକୀୟଂ
ମତ୍ଵା ତନୂଜ ଇତି ରାଗଭରଂ ଵହଂତ୍ୟଃ ।
ଆତ୍ମାନମେଵ ତୁ ଭଵଂତମଵାପ୍ୟ ସୂନୁଂ
ପ୍ରୀତିଂ ୟୟୁର୍ନ କିୟତୀଂ ଵନିତାଶ୍ଚ ଗାଵଃ ॥5॥
Meaning
ଜୀଵଂ ହି କିଂଚିତ୍- - some 'jeevas' alone; ଅଭିମାନ-ଵଶାତ୍- - by the sense of 'I'ness; ସ୍ଵକୀୟଂ ମତ୍ଵା - ones own taking; ତନୂଜ ଇତି - as son, thus,; ରାଗଭରଂ ଵହଂତ୍ୟଃ - attachment enduring; ଆତ୍ମାନମ୍-ଏଵ ତୁ - the self alone indeed; ଭଵଂତମ୍-ଅଵାପ୍ୟ - Thyself getting; ସୂନୁଂ ପ୍ରୀତିମ୍ - (as) son affection; ୟୟୁଃ-ନ କିୟତୀଂ - attained not to what extent; ଵନିତାଃ-ଚ ଗାଵଃ - the Gopikas and the cows;
Translation
The Gopikas and the cows were greatly attached to the jeevas born as their issues, because of the sense of 'I'ness and 'mine'ness. This is a universal notion. By getting Thee as their off-springs, sons and calves, what extreme happiness and thrill of joy did they not get!
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଏଵଂ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ଷଣଵିଜୃଂଭିତହର୍ଷଭାର-
ନିଶ୍ଶେଷଗୋପଗଣଲାଲିତଭୂରିମୂର୍ତିମ୍ ।
ତ୍ଵାମଗ୍ରଜୋଽପି ବୁବୁଧେ କିଲ ଵତ୍ସରାଂତେ
ବ୍ରହ୍ମାତ୍ମନୋରପି ମହାନ୍ ୟୁଵୟୋର୍ଵିଶେଷଃ ॥6॥
Meaning
ଏଵଂ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ଷଣ- - in this manner every moment; ଵିଜୃଂଭିତ-ହର୍ଷଭାର- - increased intense joy; ନିଶ୍ଶେଷ-ଗୋପଗଣ- - by all the Gopas; ଲାଲିତ-ଭୂରିମୂର୍ତିମ୍ - served (Thee, in) the multifarious forms; ତ୍ଵାମ୍-ଅଗ୍ରଜଃ-ଅପି - Thee, (Thy) elder brother (Balaraam) also; ବୁବୁଧେ କିଲ - realised indeed; ଵତ୍ସର-ଅଂତେ - at the end of a year; ବ୍ରହ୍ମାତ୍ମନଃ-ଅପି - (the two of Thou) even being of the nature of Brahman; ମହାନ୍ ୟୁଵୟୋଃ - great, in the two of Thou; ଵିଶେଷଃ - (Thou) are different, special;
Translation
In this manner, day by day, every moment the Gopas served Thee in Thy many forms with ever increasing joy. Even Thy elder brother Balaraam could not realize that it was Thou in the various forms till the end of one year. Though Thou two are in reality of the nature of Brahman, there is a vast difference. Thou are special.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵର୍ଷାଵଧୌ ନଵପୁରାତନଵତ୍ସପାଲାନ୍
ଦୃଷ୍ଟ୍ଵା ଵିଵେକମସୃଣେ ଦ୍ରୁହିଣେ ଵିମୂଢେ ।
ପ୍ରାଦୀଦୃଶଃ ପ୍ରତିନଵାନ୍ ମକୁଟାଂଗଦାଦି
ଭୂଷାଂଶ୍ଚତୁର୍ଭୁଜୟୁଜଃ ସଜଲାଂବୁଦାଭାନ୍ ॥7॥
Meaning
ଵର୍ଷ-ଅଵଧୌ - at the end of one year; ନଵ-ପୁରାତନ- - new and old; ଵତ୍ସପାଲାନ୍ - the calves and cowherds; ଦୃଷ୍ଟ୍ଵା ଵିଵେକମ୍-ଅସୃଣେ - seeing and being unable to distinguish; ଦ୍ରୁହିଣେ ଵିମୂଢେ - Brahmaa was stupefied; ପ୍ରାଦୀଦୃଶଃ ପ୍ରତିନଵାନ୍ - (Thou) revealed each of the new ones; ମକୁଟ-ଅଂଗଦ-ଆଦି ଭୂଷାନ୍- - with diadems, shoulder ornaments and other adornments; ଚତୁର୍ଭୁଜ-ୟୁଜଃ - with four arms; ସଜଲ-ଅଂବୁଦ-ଆଭାନ୍ - and of water bearing cloud's hue;
Translation
At the end of one year, Brahmaa was stupefied as he could not distinguish which set of cowherds and calves were the old ones and which were the new ones. Thou revealed to him each of the new ones by making him see them with diadems, shoulder ornaments and other adornments.They even had four arms and the hue of water bearing clouds, like Thee.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକମେଵ କମଲାପରିଲାଲିତାଂଗାନ୍
ଭୋଗୀଂଦ୍ରଭୋଗଶୟନାନ୍ ନୟନାଭିରାମାନ୍ ।
ଲୀଲାନିମୀଲିତଦୃଶଃ ସନକାଦିୟୋଗି-
ଵ୍ୟାସେଵିତାନ୍ କମଲଭୂର୍ଭଵତୋ ଦଦର୍ଶ ॥8॥
Meaning
ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକମ୍-ଏଵ - each one of them, (he saw) as; କମଲା-ପରିଲାଲିତ-ଅଂଗାନ୍ - by Lakshmi were caressed (whose) limbs; ଭୋଗୀଂଦ୍ର-ଭୋଗ-ଶୟନାନ୍ - on Aadishesha's hoods who were reclining; ନୟନ-ଅଭିରାମାନ୍ - the delightful sights; ଲୀଲା-ନିମୀଲିତ-ଦୃଶଃ - sportingly closing the eyes; ସନକ-ଆଦି-ୟୋଗି- - by Sanaka and other sages; ଵ୍ୟାସେଵିତାନ୍ - attended upon; କମଲଭୂଃ- - the lotus born Brahmaa; ଭଵତଃ ଦଦର୍ଶ - as Thee saw;
Translation
The lotus born Brahmaa saw each one of them as Thee alone. As Him whose limbs were caressed by Goddess Lakshmi, who was reclining on Aadishesha's hoods, a delightful sight to the eyes, as His eyes were sportingly closed as though in Yoga Nidraa. The Sanaka and other sages were attending on Him.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନାରାୟଣାକୃତିମସଂଖ୍ୟତମାଂ ନିରୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ
ସର୍ଵତ୍ର ସେଵକମପି ସ୍ଵମଵେକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଧାତା ।
ମାୟାନିମଗ୍ନହୃଦୟୋ ଵିମୁମୋହ ୟାଵ-
ଦେକୋ ବଭୂଵିଥ ତଦା କବଲାର୍ଧପାଣିଃ ॥9॥
Meaning
ନାରାୟଣ-ଆକୃତିମ୍- - the form of Naaraayana; ଅସଂଖ୍ୟତମାଂ - innumerable; ନିରୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ସର୍ଵତ୍ର - seeing every where; ସେଵକମ୍-ଅପି - as an attendant also; ସ୍ଵମ୍-ଅଵେକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଧାତା - himself seeing Brahmaa; ମାୟା-ନିମଗ୍ନ-ହୃଦୟଃ - in Maayaa submerged mind; ଵିମୁମୋହ ୟାଵତ୍- - (by Maayaa) totally overpowered, by then; ଏକଃ ବଭୂଵିଥ ତଦା - one (Thou) became then; କବଲ-ଅର୍ଧ-ପାଣିଃ - with a half eaten ball of rice in hand;
Translation
Brahmaa saw the innumerable forms of Naaraayana everywhere. He saw himself as an attendant. His mind was totally overpowered by Maayaa and he was completely confused. Then Thou became one, holding a half eaten ball of rice in hand.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନଶ୍ୟନ୍ମଦେ ତଦନୁ ଵିଶ୍ଵପତିଂ ମୁହୁସ୍ତ୍ଵାଂ
ନତ୍ଵା ଚ ନୂତଵତି ଧାତରି ଧାମ ୟାତେ ।
ପୋତୈଃ ସମଂ ପ୍ରମୁଦିତୈଃ ପ୍ରଵିଶନ୍ ନିକେତଂ
ଵାତାଲୟାଧିପ ଵିଭୋ ପରିପାହି ରୋଗାତ୍ ॥10॥
Meaning
ନଶ୍ୟନ୍-ମଦେ ତଦନୁ - with humbled pride, thereafter; ଵିଶ୍ଵପତିଂ ମୁହୁଃ- - to the Lord of the universe, again and again; ତ୍ଵାଂ ନତ୍ଵା - to Thee prostrating; ଚ ନୂତଵତି ଧାତରି - and praising, Brahmaa; ଧାମ ୟାତେ - having gone home; ପୋତୈଃ ସମଂ ପ୍ରମୁଦିତୈଃ - with the boys rejoicing; ପ୍ରଵିଶନ୍ ନିକେତଂ - (Thou) entered the house; ଵାତାଲୟାଧିପ ଵିଭୋ - O Dweller of Guruvaayur and Lord of the Universe; ପରିପାହି ରୋଗାତ୍ - save me from ailments;
Translation
Brahmaa, whose pride was humbled, prostrated to Thee, the Lord of the Universe, again and again. He praised Thee and went home. Then Thou also entered the house joyfully and rejoicing with the boys. O Thou the Dweller of Guruvaayur! And the Lord of the Universe! save me from my ailments.
