ମଦନାତୁରଚେତସୋଽନ୍ଵହଂ ଭଵଦଂଘ୍ରିଦ୍ଵୟଦାସ୍ୟକାମ୍ୟୟା ।
ୟମୁନାତଟସୀମ୍ନି ସୈକତୀଂ ତରଲାକ୍ଷ୍ୟୋ ଗିରିଜାଂ ସମାର୍ଚିଚନ୍ ॥1॥
Meaning
ମଦନ-ଆତୁର-ଚେତସଃ- - with minds overcome by the god of love; ଅନ୍ଵହଂ - everyday; ଭଵତ୍-ଅଂଘ୍ରି-ଦ୍ଵୟ- - Thy two feet; ଦାସ୍ୟ-କାମ୍ୟୟା - to serve desiring; ୟମୁନା-ତଟ-ସୀମ୍ନି - on the Yamunaa banks nearby; ସୈକତୀଂ - made of sand (an image); ତରଲ-ଆକ୍ଷ୍ୟଃ - the beautiful eyed ones (girls); ଗିରିଜାଂ - the goddess Kaatyaayini; ସମାର୍ଚିଚନ୍ - worshipped;
Translation
The beautiful eyed girls of Vraja, overcome by Cupid and love for Thee were desirous of serving Thy two lotus feet. To achieve this, everyday, on the banks of Yamunaa, they made an image of sand of goddess Girijaa and worshipped it.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତଵ ନାମକଥାରତାଃ ସମଂ ସୁଦୃଶଃ ପ୍ରାତରୁପାଗତା ନଦୀମ୍ ।
ଉପହାରଶତୈରପୂଜୟନ୍ ଦୟିତୋ ନଂଦସୁତୋ ଭଵେଦିତି ॥2॥
Meaning
ତଵ - Thy; ନାମ-କଥା-ରତାଃ - name and deeds always immersed in; ସମଂ ସୁଦୃଶଃ - (they) all beautiful eyed (girls); ପ୍ରାତଃ-ଉପାଗତା - in the morning reaching; ନଦୀମ୍ - the river; ଉପହାର୍-ଶତୈଃ- - with hundreds of offerings; ଅପୂଜୟନ୍ - worshipping (prayed); ଦୟିତଃ ନଂଦସୁତଃ - (that) husband, the son of Nanda; ଭଵେତ୍-ଇତି - may become, thus;
Translation
All the beautiful girls were always immersed in chanting Thy name and narrating Thy deeds. In the morning they would go to the river and worship goddess Girijaa with hundreds of offerings and pray to her that Nanda's son, Krishna, may become their husband.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଇତି ମାସମୁପାହିତଵ୍ରତାସ୍ତରଲାକ୍ଷୀରଭିଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ତା ଭଵାନ୍ ।
କରୁଣାମୃଦୁଲୋ ନଦୀତଟଂ ସମୟାସୀତ୍ତଦନୁଗ୍ରହେଚ୍ଛୟା ॥3॥
Meaning
ଇତି ମାସମ୍- - thus for one month; ଉପାହିତ-ଵ୍ରତାଃ- - having performed the vows; ତରଲାକ୍ଷୀଃ- - the beautiful eyed (girls); ଅଭିଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ତାଃ - seeing them; ଭଵାନ୍ - Thou; କରୁଣା-ମୃଦୁଲଃ - by compassion moved; ନଦୀତଟଂ ସମୟାସୀତ୍- - to the river bank went; ତତ୍-ଅନୁଗ୍ରହ- - to bless them; ଇଚ୍ଛୟା - desiring;
Translation
Thou were moved by compassion when Thou saw that the beautiful eyed girls had performed the vows for a month. With a desire to bless them Thou went to the river bank.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନିୟମାଵସିତୌ ନିଜାଂବରଂ ତଟସୀମନ୍ୟଵମୁଚ୍ୟ ତାସ୍ତଦା ।
ୟମୁନାଜଲଖେଲନାକୁଲାଃ ପୁରତସ୍ତ୍ଵାମଵଲୋକ୍ୟ ଲଜ୍ଜିତାଃ ॥4॥
Meaning
ନିୟମ-ଅଵସିତୌ - vows/observances being completed; ନିଜ-ଅଂବରଂ - their clothes; ତଟ-ସୀମନି- - on the river bank; ଅଵମୁଚ୍ୟ ତାଃ- - leaving they; ତଦା ୟମୁନା-ଜଲ- - then in the Yamunaa waters; ଖେଲନ-ଆକୁଲାଃ - to sport eager; ପୁରତଃ-ତ୍ଵାମ୍- - in front Thee; ଅଵଲୋକ୍ୟ - seeing; ଲଜ୍ଜିତାଃ - felt ashamed;
Translation
The observances of the vows being completed, they eagerly went to sport in the Yamunaa waters, leaving their robes behind, on the bank. Seeing Thee in front, they felt very ashamed.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତ୍ରପୟା ନମିତାନନାସ୍ଵଥୋ ଵନିତାସ୍ଵଂବରଜାଲମଂତିକେ ।
ନିହିତଂ ପରିଗୃହ୍ୟ ଭୂରୁହୋ ଵିଟପଂ ତ୍ଵଂ ତରସାଽଧିରୂଢଵାନ୍ ॥5॥
Meaning
ତ୍ରପୟା - out of shame; ନମିତ-ଆନନାସୁ- - with hung heads; ଅଥଃ ଵନିତାସୁ- - then (when) the girls; ଅଂବର-ଜାଲମ୍- - the heap of clothes; ଅଂତିକେ ନିହିତଂ - near by kept; ପରିଗୃହ୍ୟ - taking away; ଭୂରୁହଃ ଵିଟପମ୍ - a tree's branch; ତ୍ଵଂ ତରସା- - Thou quickly; ଅଧିରୂଢଵାନ୍ - climbed up;
Translation
The girls stood with their heads hung in shame. Thou took away the heap of their clothes lying near by and quickly climbed up the branch of a tree.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଇହ ତାଵଦୁପେତ୍ୟ ନୀୟତାଂ ଵସନଂ ଵଃ ସୁଦୃଶୋ ୟଥାୟଥମ୍ ।
ଇତି ନର୍ମମୃଦୁସ୍ମିତେ ତ୍ଵୟି ବ୍ରୁଵତି ଵ୍ୟାମୁମୁହେ ଵଧୂଜନୈଃ ॥6॥
Meaning
ଇହ ତାଵତ୍- - here then; ଉପେତ୍ୟ ନୀୟତାଂ - coming take; ଵସନଂ ଵଃ - clothes you people; ସୁଦୃଶଃ - O beautiful eyed ones; ୟଥାୟଥଂ ଇତି - each her own, thus; ନର୍ମ-ମୃଦୁ-ସ୍ମିତେ - (with) a soft sweet smile; ତ୍ଵୟି ବ୍ରୁଵତି - (when) Thou said; ଵ୍ୟମୁମୁହେ - they were confused; ଵଧୂଜନୈଃ - the girls;
Translation
Come here, O beautiful eyed ones! Take each one of you your clothes,' Thou said with a soft sweet smile. The girls were confused when they were asked to do so.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅୟି ଜୀଵ ଚିରଂ କିଶୋର ନସ୍ତଵ ଦାସୀରଵଶୀକରୋଷି କିମ୍ ।
ପ୍ରଦିଶାଂବରମଂବୁଜେକ୍ଷଣେତ୍ୟୁଦିତସ୍ତ୍ଵଂ ସ୍ମିତମେଵ ଦତ୍ତଵାନ୍ ॥7॥
Meaning
ଅୟି ଜୀଵ ଚିରଂ - O may you live long; କିଶୋର - dear boy; ନଃ-ତଵ ଦାସୀଃ- - we (are) Thy servants; ଅଵଶୀ-କରୋଷି କିମ୍ - teasing us why; ପ୍ରଦିଶ-ଅଂବରମ୍- - give the clothes; ଅଂବୁଜେକ୍ଷଣ- - O Lotus eyed one!; ଇତି-ଉଦିତଃ- - thus being told; ତ୍ଵଂ ସ୍ମିତମ୍-ଏଵ - Thou smile only; ଦତ୍ତଵାନ୍ - gave;
Translation
O dear boy! May you live long. We are your hand maids. Why do you tease us thus? O Lotus eyed one! Give us our clothes.' Thus being told, Thou merely gave a smile.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅଧିରୁହ୍ୟ ତଟଂ କୃତାଂଜଲୀଃ ପରିଶୁଦ୍ଧାଃ ସ୍ଵଗତୀର୍ନିରୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ତାଃ ।
ଵସନାନ୍ୟଖିଲାନ୍ୟନୁଗ୍ରହଂ ପୁନରେଵଂ ଗିରମପ୍ୟଦା ମୁଦା ॥8॥
Meaning
ଅଧିରୁହ୍ୟ ତଟଂ - climbing up the bank; କୃତାଂଜଲୀଃ - with joined palms; ପରିଶୁଦ୍ଧାଃ - purified (at heart); ସ୍ଵଗତୀଃ- - (in Thee) as the sole resort; ନିରୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ତାଃ - seeing, them (as such); ଵସନାନି- - clothes; ଅଖିଲାନି- - all; ଅନୁଗ୍ରହଂ - blessings; ପୁନଃ-ଏଵଂ - again also; ଗିରମ୍-ଅପି- - words (promise) also; ଅଦା ମୁଦା - gave (to them) with joy;
Translation
Thou saw that the girls had come up the bank with joined palms, that they were purified at heart and that they had surrendered to Thee as their sole resort.Thou with joy gave them back all their clothes and also words of promise as blessings.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵିଦିତଂ ନନୁ ଵୋ ମନୀଷିତଂ ଵଦିତାରସ୍ତ୍ଵିହ ୟୋଗ୍ୟମୁତ୍ତରମ୍ ।
ୟମୁନାପୁଲିନେ ସଚଂଦ୍ରିକାଃ କ୍ଷଣଦା ଇତ୍ୟବଲାସ୍ତ୍ଵମୂଚିଵାନ୍ ॥9॥
Meaning
ଵିଦିତଂ ନନୁ - known indeed; ଵଃ ମନୀଷିତଂ - (is) your desire; ଵଦିତାରଃ- - (I) will respond; ତୁ-ଇହ - surely here; ୟୋଗ୍ୟମ୍-ଉତ୍ତରମ୍ - proper (befitting) answer; ୟମୁନା-ପୁଲିନେ - on the Yamunaa banks; ସଚଂଦ୍ରିକାଃ - (in) moon lit; କ୍ଷଣଦାଃ ଇତି- - nights, thus; ଅବଲାଃ- - to the girls; ତ୍ଵମ୍-ଊଚିଵାନ୍ - Thou said;
Translation
Known indeed is your desire to me. I will surely give a proper response, in the moon lit nights on the sand banks of Yamunaa.' Thus Thou said to the girls.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଉପକର୍ଣ୍ୟ ଭଵନ୍ମୁଖଚ୍ୟୁତଂ ମଧୁନିଷ୍ୟଂଦି ଵଚୋ ମୃଗୀଦୃଶଃ ।
ପ୍ରଣୟାଦୟି ଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ତେ ଵଦନାବ୍ଜଂ ଶନକୈର୍ଗୃହଂ ଗତାଃ ॥10॥
Meaning
ଉପକର୍ଣ୍ୟ - hearing; ଭଵତ୍-ମୁଖ-ଚ୍ୟୁତଂ - from Thy mouth flowing; ମଧୁ-ନିଷ୍ୟଂଦି ଵଚଃ - honey dripping words; ମୃଗୀଦୃଶଃ - the doe-eyed (girls); ପ୍ରଣୟାତ୍-ଅୟି - with love, O Lord!; ଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଵୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ - seeing again and again; ତେ ଵଦନ୍-ଆବ୍ଜଂ - Thy lotus face; ଶନକୈଃ-ଗୃହଂ ଗତାଃ - slowly home went;
Translation
O Lord! The doe eyed girls heard Thy honey dripping words flowing from Thy mouth. Looking with love at Thy lotus face again and again they slowly went home.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଇତି ନନ୍ଵନୁଗୃହ୍ୟ ଵଲ୍ଲଵୀର୍ଵିପିନାଂତେଷୁ ପୁରେଵ ସଂଚରନ୍ ।
କରୁଣାଶିଶିରୋ ହରେ ହର ତ୍ଵରୟା ମେ ସକଲାମୟାଵଲିମ୍ ॥11॥
Meaning
ଇତି ନନୁ- - thus indeed; ଅନୁଗୃହ୍ୟ - blessing; ଵଲ୍ଲଵୀଃ- - the Gopikaas; ଵିପିନ-ଅଂତେଷୁ - in the forests; ପୁରା-ଇଵ ସଂଚରନ୍ - before like moving about; କରୁଣାଶିଶିରଃ - O Compassionate and cool; ହରେ - O Hari!; ହର ତ୍ଵରୟା - put an end to, soon; ମେ ସକଲ- - my all; ଆମୟାଵଲିମ୍ - host of ailments;
Translation
Thus Thou blessed the Gopikaas and continued to roam the woods as before. O Hari! With Thy such cooling compassion, quickly put an end to all my hosts of ailments.
