ଅର୍ଜୁନ ଉଵାଚ
ମଦନୁଗ୍ରହାୟ ପରମଂ ଗୁହ୍ୟମଧ୍ୟାତ୍ମସଂଜ୍ଞିତମ୍ ।
ୟତ୍ତ୍ଵୟୋକ୍ତଂ ଵଚସ୍ତେନ ମୋହୋଽୟଂ ଵିଗତୋ ମମ ॥ 1 ॥
Meaning

Translation
Arjuna said: By my hearing the instructions You have kindly given me about these most confidential spiritual subjects, my illusion has now been dispelled.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭଵାପ୍ୟୟୌ ହି ଭୂତାନାଂ ଶ୍ରୁତୌ ଵିସ୍ତରଶୋ ମୟା ।
ତ୍ଵତ୍ତଃ କମଲପତ୍ରାକ୍ଷ ମାହାତ୍ମ୍ୟମପି ଚାଵ୍ୟୟମ୍ ॥ 2 ॥
Meaning
ଭଵ — appearance; ଅପ୍ୟୟୌ — disappearance; ହି — certainly; ଭୂତାନାମ୍ — of all living entities; ଶ୍ରୁତୌ — have been heard; ଵିସ୍ତରଶଃ — in detail; ମୟା — by me; ତ୍ଵତ୍ତଃ — from You; କମଲ-ପତ୍ର-ଅକ୍ଷ — O lotus-eyed one; ମାହାତ୍ମ୍ୟମ୍ — glories; ଅପି — also; ଚ — and; ଅଵ୍ୟୟମ୍ — inexhaustible.
Translation
O lotus-eyed one, I have heard from You in detail about the appearance and disappearance of every living entity and have realized Your inexhaustible glories.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଏଵମେତଦ୍ୟଥାତ୍ଥ ତ୍ଵମାତ୍ମାନଂ ପରମେଶ୍ଵର ।
ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମିଚ୍ଛାମି ତେ ରୂପମୈଶ୍ଵରଂ ପୁରୁଷୋତ୍ତମ ॥ 3 ॥
Meaning
ଏଵମ୍ — thus; ଏତତ୍ — this; ୟଥା — as it is; ଆତ୍ଥ — have spoken; ତ୍ଵମ୍ — You; ଆତ୍ମାନମ୍ — Yourself; ପରମ-ଈଶ୍ଵର — O Supreme Lord; ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମ୍ — to see; ଇଚ୍ଚାମି — I wish; ତେ — Your; ରୂପମ୍ — form; ଐଶ୍ଵରମ୍ — divine; ପୁରୁଷ-ଉତ୍ତମ — O best of personalities.
Translation
O greatest of all personalities, O supreme form, though I see You here before me in Your actual position, as You have described Yourself, I wish to see how You have entered into this cosmic manifestation. I want to see that form of Yours.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ମନ୍ୟସେ ୟଦି ତଚ୍ଛକ୍ୟଂ ମୟା ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମିତି ପ୍ରଭୋ ।
ୟୋଗେଶ୍ଵର ତତୋ ମେ ତ୍ଵଂ ଦର୍ଶୟାତ୍ମାନମଵ୍ୟୟମ୍ ॥ 4 ॥
Meaning
ମନ୍ୟସେ — You think; ୟଦି — if; ତତ୍ — that; ଶକ୍ୟମ୍ — is able; ମୟା — by me; ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମ୍ — to be seen; ଇତି — thus; ପ୍ରଭୋ — O Lord; ୟୋଗ-ଈଶ୍ଵର — O Lord of all mystic power; ତତଃ — then; ମେ — unto me; ତ୍ଵମ୍ — You; ଦର୍ଶୟ — show; ଆତ୍ମାନମ୍ — Your Self; ଅଵ୍ୟୟମ୍ — eternal.
Translation
If You think that I am able to behold Your cosmic form, O my Lord, O master of all mystic power, then kindly show me that unlimited universal Self.

ଶ୍ରୀଭଗଵାନୁଵାଚ
ପଶ୍ୟ ମେ ପାର୍ଥ ରୂପାଣି ଶତଶୋଽଥ ସହସ୍ରଶଃ ।
ନାନାଵିଧାନି ଦିଵ୍ୟାନି ନାନାଵର୍ଣାକୃତୀନି ଚ ॥ 5 ॥

Translation
Bhagavan Sri Krishna said: My dear Arjuna, O son of Prithā, see now My opulences, hundreds of thousands of varied divine and multicolored forms.

ପଶ୍ୟାଦିତ୍ୟାନ୍ଵସୂନ୍ରୁଦ୍ରାନଶ୍ଵିନୌ ମରୁତସ୍ତଥା ।
ବହୂନ୍ୟଦୃଷ୍ଟପୂର୍ଵାଣି ପଶ୍ୟାଶ୍ଚର୍ୟାଣି ଭାରତ ॥ 6 ॥
Meaning
ପଶ୍ୟ — see; ଆଦିତ୍ୟାନ୍ — the twelve sons of Aditi; ଵସୂନ୍ — the eight Vasus; ରୁଦ୍ରାନ୍ — the eleven forms of Rudra; ଅଶ୍ଵିନୌ — the two Aśvinīs; ମରୁତଃ — the forty-nine Maruts (demigods of the wind); ତଥା — also; ବହୂନି — many; ଅଦୃଷ୍ଟ — that you have not seen; ପୂର୍ଵାଣି — before; ପଶ୍ୟ — see; ଆଶ୍ଚର୍ୟାଣି — all the wonders; ଭାରତ — O best of the Bhāratas.
Translation
O best of the Bhāratas, see here the different manifestations of Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras, Aśvinī-kumāras and all the other demigods. Behold the many wonderful things which no one has ever seen or heard of before.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଇହୈକସ୍ଥଂ ଜଗତ୍କୃତ୍ସ୍ନଂ ପଶ୍ୟାଦ୍ୟ ସଚରାଚରମ୍ ।
ମମ ଦେହେ ଗୁଡାକେଶ ୟଚ୍ଚଆନ୍ୟଦ୍ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମିଚ୍ଛସି ॥ 7 ॥
Meaning
ଇହ — in this; ଏକ-ସ୍ଥମ୍ — in one place; ଜଗତ୍ — the universe; କୃତ୍ସ୍ନମ୍ — completely; ପଶ୍ୟ — see; ଅଦ୍ୟ — immediately; ସ — with; ଚର — the moving; ଅଚରମ୍ — and not moving; ମମ — My; ଦେହେ — in this body; ଗୁଡାକେଶ — O Arjuna; ୟତ୍ — that which; ଚ — also; ଅନ୍ୟତ୍ — other; ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମ୍ — to see; ଇଚ୍ଚସି — you wish.
Translation
O Arjuna, whatever you wish to see, behold at once in this body of Mine! This universal form can show you whatever you now desire to see and whatever you may want to see in the future. Everything – moving and nonmoving – is here completely, in one place.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନ ତୁ ମାଂ ଶକ୍ୟସେ ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମନେନୈଵ ସ୍ଵଚକ୍ଷୁଷା ।
ଦିଵ୍ୟଂ ଦଦାମି ତେ ଚକ୍ଷୁଃ ପଶ୍ୟ ମେ ୟୋଗମୈଶ୍ଵରମ୍ ॥ 8 ॥
Meaning
ନ — never; ତୁ — but; ମାମ୍ — Me; ଶକ୍ୟସେ — are able; ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମ୍ — to see; ଅନେନ — with these; ଏଵ — certainly; ସ୍ଵ-ଚକ୍ଷୁଷା — your own eyes; ଦିଵ୍ୟମ୍ — divine; ଦଦାମି — I give; ତେ — to you; ଚକ୍ଷୁଃ — eyes; ପଶ୍ୟ — see; ମେ — My; ୟୋଗଂ ଐଶ୍ଵରମ୍ — inconceivable mystic power.
Translation
But you cannot see Me with your present eyes. Therefore I give you divine eyes. Behold My mystic opulence!
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ସଂଜୟ ଉଵାଚ
ଏଵମୁକ୍ତ୍ଵା ତତୋ ରାଜନ୍ମହାୟୋଗେଶ୍ଵରୋ ହରିଃ ।
ଦର୍ଶୟାମାସ ପାର୍ଥାୟ ପରମଂ ରୂପମୈଶ୍ଵରମ୍ ॥ 9 ॥
Meaning
ସଂଜୟଃ ଉଵାଚ — Sañjaya said; ଏଵମ୍ — thus; ଉକ୍ତ୍ଵା — saying; ତତଃ — thereafter; ରାଜନ୍ — O King; ମହା-ୟୋଗ-ଈଶ୍ଵରଃ — the most powerful mystic; ହରିଃ — Bhagavan Sri Krishna, Kriṣṇa; ଦର୍ଶୟାଂ ଆସ — showed; ପାର୍ଥାୟ — unto Arjuna; ପରମମ୍ — the divine; ରୂପଂ ଐଶ୍ଵରମ୍ — universal form.
Translation
Sañjaya said: O King, having spoken thus, the Supreme Lord of all mystic power, the Personality of Godhead, displayed His universal form to Arjuna.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅନେକଵକ୍ତ୍ରନୟନମନେକାଦ୍ଭଉତଦର୍ଶନମ୍ ।
ଅନେକଦିଵ୍ୟାଭରଣଂ ଦିଵ୍ୟାନେକୋଦ୍ୟତାୟୁଧମ୍ ॥ 10 ॥
ଦିଵ୍ୟମାଲ୍ୟାଂବରଧରଂ ଦିଵ୍ୟଗଂଧାନୁଲେପନମ୍ ।
ସର୍ଵାଶ୍ଚର୍ୟମୟଂ ଦେଵମନଂତଂ ଵିଶ୍ଵତୋମୁଖମ୍ ॥ 11 ॥

Translation
Arjuna saw in that universal form unlimited mouths, unlimited eyes, unlimited wonderful visions. The form was decorated with many celestial ornaments and bore many divine upraised weapons. He wore celestial garlands and garments, and many divine scents were smeared over His body. All was wondrous, brilliant, unlimited, all-expanding.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଦିଵି ସୂର୍ୟସହସ୍ରସ୍ୟ ଭଵେଦ୍ୟୁଗପଦୁତ୍ଥିତା ।
ୟଦି ଭାଃ ସଦୃଶୀ ସା ସ୍ୟାଦ୍ଭଆସସ୍ତସ୍ୟ ମହାତ୍ମନଃ ॥ 12 ॥
Meaning
ଦିଵି — in the sky; ସୂର୍ୟ — of suns; ସହସ୍ରସ୍ୟ — of many thousands; ଭଵେତ୍ — there were; ୟୁଗପତ୍ — simultaneously; ଉତ୍ଥିତା — present; ୟଦି — if; ଭାଃ — light; ସଦୃଶୀ — like that; ସା — that; ସ୍ୟାତ୍ — might be; ଭାସଃ — effulgence; ତସ୍ୟ — of Him; ମହା-ଆତ୍ମନଃ — the great Lord.
Translation
If hundreds of thousands of suns were to rise at once into the sky, their radiance might resemble the effulgence of the Supreme Person in that universal form.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତତ୍ରୈକସ୍ଥଂ ଜଗତ୍କୃତ୍ସ୍ନଂ ପ୍ରଵିଭକ୍ତମନେକଧା ।
ଅପଶ୍ୟଦ୍ଦେଵଦେଵସ୍ୟ ଶରୀରେ ପାଂଡଵସ୍ତଦା ॥ 13 ॥
Meaning
ତତ୍ର — there; ଏକ-ସ୍ଥମ୍ — in one place; ଜଗତ୍ — the universe; କୃତ୍ସ୍ନମ୍ — complete; ପ୍ରଵିଭକ୍ତମ୍ — divided; ଅନେକଧା — into many; ଅପଶ୍ୟତ୍ — could see; ଦେଵ-ଦେଵସ୍ୟ — of Bhagavan Sri Krishna; ଶରୀରେ — in the universal form; ପାଂଡଵଃ — Arjuna; ତଦା — at that time.
Translation
At that time Arjuna could see in the universal form of the Lord the unlimited expansions of the universe situated in one place although divided into many, many thousands.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତତଃ ସ ଵିସ୍ମୟାଵିଷ୍ଟୋ ହୃଷ୍ଟରୋମା ଧନଂଜୟଃ ।
ପ୍ରଣମ୍ୟ ଶିରସା ଦେଵଂ କୃତାଂଜଲିରଭାଷତ ॥ 14 ॥
Meaning
ତତଃ — thereafter; ସଃ — he; ଵିସ୍ମୟ-ଆଵିଷ୍ଟଃ — being overwhelmed with wonder; ହୃଷ୍ଟ-ରୋମା — with his bodily hairs standing on end due to his great ecstasy; ଧନମ୍-ଜୟଃ — Arjuna; ପ୍ରଣମ୍ୟ — offering obeisances; ଶିରସା — with the head; ଦେଵମ୍ — to Bhagavan Sri Krishna; କୃତ-ଅଂଜଲିଃ — with folded hands; ଅଭାଷତ — began to speak.
Translation
Then, bewildered and astonished, his hair standing on end, Arjuna bowed his head to offer obeisances and with folded hands began to pray to the Supreme Lord.

ପଶ୍ୟାମି ଦେଵାଂସ୍ତଵ ଦେଵ ଦେହେ

Translation
Arjuna said: My dear Lord Kriṣṇa, I see assembled in Your body all the demigods and various other living entities. I see Brahmā sitting on the lotus flower, as well as Lord Śiva and all the sages and divine serpents.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅନେକବାହୂଦରଵକ୍ତ୍ରନେତ୍ରଂ
ପଶ୍ୟାମି ତ୍ଵାଂ ସର୍ଵତୋଽନଂତରୂପମ୍ ।
ନାଂତଂ ନ ମଧ୍ୟଂ ନ ପୁନସ୍ତଵାଦିଂ
ପଶ୍ୟାମି ଵିଶ୍ଵେଶ୍ଵର ଵିଶ୍ଵରୂପ ॥ 16 ॥

ଅନେକ — many; ବାହୁ — arms; ଉଦର — bellies; ଵକ୍ତ୍ର — mouths; ନେତ୍ରମ୍ — eyes; ପଶ୍ୟାମି — I see; ତ୍ଵାମ୍ — You; ସର୍ଵତଃ — on all sides; ଅନଂତ-ରୂପମ୍ — unlimited form; ନ ଅଂତମ୍ — no end; ନ ମଧ୍ୟମ୍ — no middle; ନ ପୁନଃ — nor again; ତଵ — Your; ଆଦିମ୍ — beginning; ପଶ୍ୟାମି — I see; ଵିଶ୍ଵ-ଈଶ୍ଵର — O Lord of the universe; ଵିଶ୍ଵ-ରୂପ — in the form of the universe.
Translation
O Lord of the universe, O universal form, I see in Your body many, many arms, bellies, mouths and eyes, expanded everywhere, without limit. I see in You no end, no middle and no beginning.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
କିରୀଟିନଂ ଗଦିନଂ ଚକ୍ରିଣଂ ଚ
ତେଜୋରାଶିଂ ସର୍ଵତୋ ଦୀପ୍ତିମଂତମ୍ ।
ପଶ୍ୟାମି ତ୍ଵାଂ ଦୁର୍ନିରୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟଂ ସମଂତା-
ଦ୍ଦୀପ୍ତାନଲାର୍କଦ୍ୟୁତିମପ୍ରମେୟମ୍ ॥ 17 ॥
Meaning
କିରୀଟିନମ୍ — with helmets; ଗଦିନମ୍ — with maces; ଚକ୍ରିଣମ୍ — with discs; ଚ — and; ତେଜଃ-ରାଶିମ୍ — effulgence; ସର୍ଵତଃ — on all sides; ଦୀପ୍ତି-ମଂତମ୍ — glowing; ପଶ୍ୟାମି — I see; ତ୍ଵାମ୍ — You; ଦୁର୍ନିରୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟମ୍ — difficult to see; ସମଂତାତ୍ — everywhere; ଦୀପ୍ତ-ଅନଲ — blazing fire; ଅର୍କ — of the sun; ଦ୍ୟୁତିମ୍ — the sunshine; ଅପ୍ରମେୟମ୍ — immeasurable.
Translation
Your form is difficult to see because of its glaring effulgence, spreading on all sides, like blazing fire or the immeasurable radiance of the sun. Yet I see this glowing form everywhere, adorned with various crowns, clubs and discs.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତ୍ଵମକ୍ଷରଂ ପରମଂ ଵେଦିତଵ୍ୟଂ
ତ୍ଵମସ୍ୟ ଵିଶ୍ଵସ୍ୟ ପରଂ ନିଧାନମ୍ ।
ତ୍ଵମଵ୍ୟୟଃ ଶାଶ୍ଵତଧର୍ମଗୋପ୍ତା
ସନାତନସ୍ତ୍ଵଂ ପୁରୁଷୋ ମତୋ ମେ ॥ 18 ॥

Translation
You are the supreme primal objective. You are the ultimate resting place of all this universe. You are inexhaustible, and You are the oldest. You are the maintainer of the eternal religion, the Personality of Godhead. This is my opinion.

ଅନାଦିମଧ୍ୟାଂତମନଂତଵୀର୍ୟ-
ମନଂତବାହୁଂ ଶଶିସୂର୍ୟନେତ୍ରମ୍ ।
ପଶ୍ୟାମି ତ୍ଵାଂ ଦୀପ୍ତହୁତାଶଵକ୍ତ୍ରଂ
ସ୍ଵତେଜସା ଵିଶ୍ଵମିଦଂ ତପଂତମ୍ ॥ 19 ॥

ଅନାଦି — without beginning; ମଧ୍ୟ — middle; ଅଂତମ୍ — or end; ଅନଂତ — unlimited; ଵୀର୍ୟମ୍ — glories; ଅନଂତ — unlimited; ବାହୁମ୍ — arms; ଶଶି — the moon; ସୂର୍ୟ — and sun; ନେତ୍ରମ୍ — eyes; ପଶ୍ୟାମି — I see; ତ୍ଵାମ୍ — You; ଦୀପ୍ତ — blazing; ହୁତାଶ-ଵକ୍ତ୍ରମ୍ — fire coming out of Your mouth; ସ୍ଵ-ତେଜସା — by Your radiance; ଵିଶ୍ଵମ୍ — universe; ଇଦମ୍ — this; ତପଂତମ୍ — heating.
Translation
You are without origin, middle or end. Your glory is unlimited. You have numberless arms, and the sun and moon are Your eyes. I see You with blazing fire coming forth from Your mouth, burning this entire universe by Your own radiance.

ଦ୍ୟାଵାପୃଥିଵ୍ୟୋରିଦମଂତରଂ ହି
ଵ୍ୟାପ୍ତଂ ତ୍ଵୟୈକେନ ଦିଶଶ୍ଚ ସର୍ଵାଃ ।
ଦୃଷ୍ଟ୍ଵାଦ୍ଭୁତଂ ରୂପମୁଗ୍ରଂ ତଵେଦଂ
ଲୋକତ୍ରୟଂ ପ୍ରଵ୍ୟଥିତଂ ମହାତ୍ମନ୍ ॥ 20 ॥
Meaning

Translation
Although You are one, You spread throughout the sky and the planets and all space between. O great one, seeing this wondrous and terrible form, all the planetary systems are perturbed.

Translation
All the hosts of demigods are surrendering before You and entering into You. Some of them, very much afraid, are offering prayers with folded hands. Hosts of great sages and perfected beings, crying “All peace!” are praying to You by singing the Vedic hymns.

All the various manifestations of Lord Śiva, the Ādityas, the Vasus, the Sādhyas, the Viśvedevas, the two Aśvīs, the Maruts, the forefathers, the Gandharvas, the Yakṣas, the Asuras and the perfected demigods are beholding You in wonder.

ରୂପଂ ମହତ୍ତେ ବହୁଵକ୍ତ୍ରନେତ୍ରଂ

O mighty-armed one, all the planets with their demigods are disturbed at seeing Your great form, with its many faces, eyes, arms, thighs, legs and bellies and Your many terrible teeth; and as they are disturbed, so am I.

Translation
O all-pervading Viṣṇu, seeing You with Your many radiant colors touching the sky, Your gaping mouths, and Your great glowing eyes, my mind is perturbed by fear. I can no longer maintain my steadiness or equilibrium of mind.

O Lord of lords, O refuge of the worlds, please be gracious to me. I cannot keep my balance seeing thus Your blazing deathlike faces and awful teeth. In all directions I am bewildered.

Translation
All the sons of Dhritarāṣṭra, along with their allied kings, and Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Karṇa – and our chief soldiers also – are rushing into Your fearful mouths. And some I see trapped with heads smashed between Your teeth.

ୟଥା ନଦୀନାଂ ବହଵୋଽଂବୁଵେଗାଃ
ସମୁଦ୍ରମେଵାଭିମୁଖା ଦ୍ରଵଂତି ।

As the many waves of the rivers flow into the ocean, so do all these great warriors enter blazing into Your mouths.

O Viṣṇu, I see You devouring all people from all sides with Your flaming mouths. Covering all the universe with Your effulgence, You are manifest with terrible, scorching rays.

Bhagavan Sri Krishna said: Time I am, the great destroyer of the worlds, and I have come here to destroy all people. With the exception of you [the Pāṇḍavas], all the soldiers here on both sides will be slain.

Translation
Therefore get up. Prepare to fight and win glory. Conquer your enemies and enjoy a flourishing kingdom. They are already put to death by My arrangement, and you, O Savyasācī, can be but an instrument in the fight.

Translation
Droṇa, Bhīṣma, Jayadratha, Karṇa and the other great warriors have already been destroyed by Me. Therefore, kill them and do not be disturbed. Simply fight, and you will vanquish your enemies in battle.

Translation
Arjuna said: O master of the senses, the world becomes joyful upon hearing Your name, and thus everyone becomes attached to You. Although the perfected beings offer You their respectful homage, the demons are afraid, and they flee here and there. All this is rightly done.

କସ୍ମାଚ୍ଚ ତେ ନ ନମେରନ୍ମହାତ୍ମନ୍

Translation
O great one, greater even than Brahmā, You are the original creator. Why then should they not offer their respectful obeisances unto You? O limitless one, God of gods, refuge of the universe! You are the invincible source, the cause of all causes, transcendental to this material manifestation.

ତ୍ଵମାଦିଦେଵଃ ପୁରୁଷଃ ପୁରାଣ-

You are the original Personality of Godhead, the oldest, the ultimate sanctuary of this manifested cosmic world. You are the knower of everything, and You are all that is knowable. You are the supreme refuge, above the material modes. O limitless form! This whole cosmic manifestation is pervaded by You!

Translation
Thinking of You as my friend, I have rashly addressed You “O Kriṣṇa,” “O Yādava,” “O my friend,” not knowing Your glories. Please forgive whatever I may have done in madness or in love. I have dishonored You many times, jesting as we relaxed, lay on the same bed, or sat or ate together, sometimes alone and sometimes in front of many friends. O infallible one, please excuse me for all those offenses.

ପିତାସି ଲୋକସ୍ୟ ଚରାଚରସ୍ୟ

Translation
You are the father of this complete cosmic manifestation, of the moving and the nonmoving. You are its worshipable chief, the supreme spiritual master. No one is greater than You, nor can anyone be one with You. How then could there be anyone greater than You within the three worlds, O Lord of immeasurable power?

Translation
You are the Supreme Lord, to be worshiped by every living being. Thus I fall down to offer You my respectful obeisances and ask Your mercy. As a father tolerates the impudence of his son, a friend the impertinence of a friend, or a husband the familiarity of his wife, please tolerate the wrongs I may have done You.

Translation
After seeing this universal form, which I have never seen before, I am gladdened, but at the same time my mind is disturbed with fear. Therefore please bestow Your grace upon me and reveal again Your form as the Personality of Godhead, O Lord of lords, O abode of the universe.

କିରୀଟିନଂ ଗଦିନଂ ଚକ୍ରହସ୍ତ-
ମିଚ୍ଛାମି ତ୍ଵାଂ ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମହଂ ତଥୈଵ ।

Translation
O universal form, O thousand-armed Lord, I wish to see You in Your four-armed form, with helmeted head and with club, wheel, conch and lotus flower in Your hands. I long to see You in that form.

Translation
Bhagavan Sri Krishna said: My dear Arjuna, happily have I shown you, by My internal potency, this supreme universal form within the material world. No one before you has ever seen this primal form, unlimited and full of glaring effulgence.

ନ ଵେଦୟଜ୍ଞାଧ୍ୟୟନୈର୍ନ ଦାନୈ-
ର୍ନ ଚ କ୍ରିୟାଭିର୍ନ ତପୋଭିରୁଗ୍ରୈଃ ।

Translation
O best of the Kuru warriors, no one before you has ever seen this universal form of Mine, for neither by studying the Vedas, nor by performing sacrifices, nor by charity, nor by pious activities, nor by severe penances can I be seen in this form in the material world.

ମା ତେ ଵ୍ୟଥା ମା ଚ ଵିମୂଢଭାଵୋ
ଦୃଷ୍ଟ୍ଵା ରୂପଂ ଘୋରମୀଦୃଙ୍ମମେଦମ୍ ।

Translation
You have been perturbed and bewildered by seeing this horrible feature of Mine. Now let it be finished. My devotee, be free again from all disturbances. With a peaceful mind you can now see the form you desire.

Translation
Sañjaya said to Dhritarāṣṭra: Bhavan, Sri Kriṣṇa, having spoken thus to Arjuna, displayed His real four-armed form and at last showed His two-armed form, thus encouraging the fearful Arjuna.

When Arjuna thus saw Kriṣṇa in His original form, he said: O Janārdana, seeing this humanlike form, so very beautiful, I am now composed in mind, and I am restored to my original nature.

ଶ୍ରୀ-ଭଗଵାନ୍ ଉଵାଚ — Bhagavan Sri Krishna said; ସୁ-ଦୁର୍ଦର୍ଶମ୍ — very difficult to see; ଇଦମ୍ — this; ରୂପମ୍ — form; ଦୃଷ୍ଟଵାନ୍ ଅସି — as you have seen; ୟତ୍ — which; ମମ — of Mine; ଦେଵାଃ — the demigods; ଅପି — also; ଅସ୍ୟ — this; ରୂପସ୍ୟ — form; ନିତ୍ୟମ୍ — eternally; ଦର୍ଶନ-କାଂକ୍ଷିଣଃ — aspiring to see.
Translation
Bhagavan Sri Krishna said: My dear Arjuna, this form of Mine you are now seeing is very difficult to behold. Even the demigods are ever seeking the opportunity to see this form, which is so dear.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନାହଂ ଵେଦୈର୍ନ ତପସା ନ ଦାନେନ ନ ଚେଜ୍ୟୟା ।
ଶକ୍ୟ ଏଵଂଵିଧୋ ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁଂ ଦୃଷ୍ଟଵାନସି ମାଂ ୟଥା ॥ 53 ॥
Meaning
ନ — never; ଅହମ୍ — I; ଵେଦୈଃ — by study of the Vedas; ନ — never; ତପସା — by serious penances; ନ — never; ଦାନେନ — by charity; ନ — never; ଚ — also; ଇଜ୍ୟୟା — by worship; ଶକ୍ୟଃ — it is possible; ଏଵମ୍-ଵିଧଃ — like this; ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମ୍ — to see; ଦୃଷ୍ଟଵାନ୍ — seeing; ଅସି — you are; ମାମ୍ — Me; ୟଥା — as.
Translation
The form you are seeing with your transcendental eyes cannot be understood simply by studying the Vedas, nor by undergoing serious penances, nor by charity, nor by worship. It is not by these means that one can see Me as I am.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭକ୍ତ୍ୟଆ ତ୍ଵନନ୍ୟୟା ଶକ୍ୟ ଅହମେଵଂଵିଧୋଽର୍ଜୁନ ।
ଜ୍ଞାତୁଂ ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁଂ ଚ ତତ୍ତ୍ଵେନ ପ୍ରଵେଷ୍ଟୁଂ ଚ ପରଂତପ ॥ 54 ॥
Meaning
ଭକ୍ତ୍ୟା — by devotional service; ତୁ — but; ଅନନ୍ୟୟା — without being mixed with fruitive activities or speculative knowledge; ଶକ୍ୟଃ — possible; ଅହମ୍ — I; ଏଵମ୍-ଵିଧଃ — like this; ଅର୍ଜୁନ — O Arjuna; ଜ୍ଞାତୁମ୍ — to know; ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁମ୍ — to see; ଚ — and; ତତ୍ତ୍ଵେନ — in fact; ପ୍ରଵେଷ୍ଟୁମ୍ — to enter into; ଚ — also; ପରମ୍-ତପ — O subduer of the enemy.
Translation
My dear Arjuna, only by undivided devotional service can I be understood as I am, standing before you, and can thus be seen directly. Only in this way can you enter into the mysteries of My understanding.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ମତ୍କର୍ମକୃନ୍ମତ୍ପରମୋ ମଦ୍ଭକ୍ତଃ ସଂଗଵର୍ଜିତଃ ।
ନିର୍ଵୈରଃ ସର୍ଵଭୂତେଷୁ ୟଃ ସ ମାମେତି ପାଂଡଵ ॥ 55 ॥
Meaning
ମତ୍-କର୍ମ-କୃତ୍ — engaged in doing My work; ମତ୍-ପରମଃ — considering Me the Supreme; ମତ୍-ଭକ୍ତଃ — engaged in My devotional service; ସଂଗ-ଵର୍ଜିତଃ — freed from the contamination of fruitive activities and mental speculation; ନିର୍ଵୈରଃ — without an enemy; ସର୍ଵ-ଭୂତେଷୁ — among all living entities; ୟଃ — one who; ସଃ — he; ମାମ୍ — unto Me; ଏତି — comes; ପାଂଡଵ — O son of Pāṇḍu.
Translation
My dear Arjuna, he who engages in My pure devotional service, free from the contaminations of fruitive activities and mental speculation, he who works for Me, who makes Me the supreme goal of his life, and who is friendly to every living being – he certainly comes to Me.
