ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଵ୍ରଜେଶ୍ଵରୈଃ ଶୌରିଵଚୋ ନିଶମ୍ୟ ସମାଵ୍ରଜନ୍ନଧ୍ଵନି ଭୀତଚେତାଃ ।
ନିଷ୍ପିଷ୍ଟନିଶ୍ଶେଷତରୁଂ ନିରୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ କଂଚିତ୍ପଦାର୍ଥଂ ଶରଣଂ ଗତସ୍ଵାମ୍ ॥1॥
Meaning
ଵ୍ରଜେଶ୍ଵରଃ - the chieftain of Vraja (Nanda Gopa); ଶୌରି-ଵଚଃ ନିଶମ୍ୟ - the words of Vasudeva having heard; ସମାଵ୍ରଜନ୍-ଅଧ୍ଵନି - returning on the way; ଭୀତ-ଚେତାଃ - in utter fear (seeing); ନିଷ୍ପିଷ୍ଟ-ନିଶ୍ଶେଷ-ତରୁମ୍ - crushed all the trees; ନିରୀକ୍ଷ୍ୟ କିଂଚିତ୍-ପଦାର୍ଥମ୍ - seeing (by) some indescribable object; ଶରଣଂ ଗତଃ-ତ୍ଵାମ୍ - took refuge in Thee (prayed to Thee);
Translation
The chieftain of Vraja, Nanda Gopa, having heard the words of Vasudeva, was returning home in a hurry. On the way he saw an indescribable form falling down and crushing all the trees around. In utter fear he took refuge in Thee and prayed to Thee.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନିଶମ୍ୟ ଗୋପୀଵଚନାଦୁଦଂତଂ ସର୍ଵେଽପି ଗୋପା ଭୟଵିସ୍ମୟାଂଧାଃ ।
ତ୍ଵତ୍ପାତିତଂ ଘୋରପିଶାଚଦେହଂ ଦେହୁର୍ଵିଦୂରେଽଥ କୁଠାରକୃତ୍ତମ୍ ॥2॥
Meaning
ନିଶମ୍ୟ ଗୋପୀ-ଵଚନାତ୍ - hearing, by the words of the Gopikas; ଉଦଂତମ୍ - the news (story of Pootanaa); ସର୍ଵେ-ଅପି ଗୋପାଃ - all the Gopas; ଭୟ-ଵିସ୍ମୟ-ଅଂଧାଃ - by fear and wonder dumbfounded; ତ୍ଵତ୍-ପାତିତମ୍ - felled by Thee; ଘୋର-ପିଶାଚ-ଦେହମ୍ - the terrible monster's (Pootanaa's) body; ଦେହୁଃ-ଵିଦୂରେ-ଅଥ - burnt far away, then,; କୁଠାର-କୃତ୍ତମ୍ - (the body) by axes cut (into pieces);
Translation
The Gopas came to know of the whole incident of Pootanaa from the Gopikas and they were dumbfounded with fear and wonder. They then proceeded to cut the body of the terrible monster who was killed by Thee, into pieces with axes and burnt it at a distance.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ତ୍ଵତ୍ପୀତପୂତସ୍ତନତଚ୍ଛରୀରାତ୍ ସମୁଚ୍ଚଲନ୍ନୁଚ୍ଚତରୋ ହି ଧୂମଃ ।
ଶଂକାମଧାଦାଗରଵଃ କିମେଷ କିଂ ଚାଂଦନୋ ଗୌଲ୍ଗୁଲଵୋଽଥଵେତି ॥3॥
Meaning
ତ୍ଵତ୍-ପୀତ-ପୂତ-ସ୍ତନ- - by Thee sucked, the purified breasts, from (them); ତତ୍-ଶରୀରାତ୍ ସମୁଚ୍ଚଲନ୍- - (from that body) rising up profusely; ଉଚ୍ଚତରଃ ହି ଧୂମଃ - high up indeed the smoke; ଶଂକାମ୍-ଅଧାତ୍- - (made) doubt to arise; ଅଗରଵଃ କିମ୍-ଏଷ - (smell) of agaru is this,; କିଂ ଚାଂଦନଃ - (or) is it sandalwood; ଗୌଲ୍ଗୁଲଵଃ-ଅଥଵା- - or from gulgulu (frankincense); ଇତି - thus (the doubt);
Translation
The breasts of Pootanaa were made pure by Thy having sucked them. Therefore, when her body was burnt, huge volumes of smoke rose in the sky, so fragrant that it produced doubt in the minds of the people as to what it was - agaru, sandalwood, or gulgulu (frankincense) incense.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ମଦଂଗସଂଗସ୍ୟ ଫଲଂ ନ ଦୂରେ କ୍ଷଣେନ ତାଵତ୍ ଭଵତାମପି ସ୍ୟାତ୍ ।
ଇତ୍ୟୁଲ୍ଲପନ୍ ଵଲ୍ଲଵତଲ୍ଲଜେଭ୍ୟଃ ତ୍ଵଂ ପୂତନାମାତନୁଥାଃ ସୁଗଂଧିମ୍ ॥4॥
Meaning
ମତ୍-ଅଂଗ-ସଂଗସ୍ୟ - of my body's contact; ଫଲଂ ନ ଦୂରେ - the fruit is not far; କ୍ଷଣେନ ତାଵତ୍ - in no time then; ଭଵତାମ୍-ଅପି ସ୍ୟାତ୍ - to you also will be (given); ଇତି-ଉଲ୍ଲପନ୍ - thus saying (declaring); ଵଲ୍ଲଵ-ତଲ୍ଲଜେଭ୍ୟଃ - to the higher ones of the cow-herds; ତ୍ଵମ୍ - Thou; ପୂତନାମ୍-ଅତନୁଥାଃ - on Pootanaa conferred; ସୁଗଂଧିମ୍ - fragrance (punya) (blessings);
Translation
Thou declared to the higher ones of the cowherd clan that the fruits of the contact with Thy body were not far behind, and that they too would get them soon. The conferring of fragrance / blessings on Pootanaa was, as though, to prove that.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଚିତ୍ରଂ ପିଶାଚ୍ୟା ନ ହତଃ କୁମାରଃ ଚିତ୍ରଂ ପୁରୈଵାକଥି ଶୌରିଣେଦମ୍ ।
ଇତି ପ୍ରଶଂସନ୍ କିଲ ଗୋପଲୋକୋ ଭଵନ୍ମୁଖାଲୋକରସେ ନ୍ୟମାଂକ୍ଷୀତ୍ ॥5॥
Meaning
ଚିତ୍ରଂ ପିଶାଚ୍ୟା - what a wonder, by the demoness; ନ ହତଃ କୁମାରଃ - was not killed the boy; ଚିତ୍ରଂ ପୁରା-ଏଵ- - what a wonder earlier itself; ଅକଥି ଶୌରିଣା-ଇଦମ୍ - it was said by Shauri (Vasudeva), this; ଇତି ପ୍ରଶଂସନ୍ - thus praising; କିଲ ଗୋପଲୋକଃ - the cowherd people; ଭଵତ୍-ମୁଖ-ଆଲୋକ-ରସେ - in the joy of looking at Thy face; ନ୍ୟମାଂକ୍ଷୀତ୍ - immersed;
Translation
The cowherd people were wonder struck that the boy was not killed by the demoness. They also marvelled at the events foretold by Shauri Vasudeva. Realising this, they were fully immersed in the joy of looking at Thy face.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଦିନେଦିନେଽଥ ପ୍ରତିଵୃଦ୍ଧଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀରକ୍ଷୀଣମାଂଗଲ୍ୟଶତୋ ଵ୍ରଜୋଽୟମ୍ ।
ଭଵନ୍ନିଵାସାଦୟି ଵାସୁଦେଵ ପ୍ରମୋଦସାଂଦ୍ରଃ ପରିତୋ ଵିରେଜେ ॥6॥
Meaning
ଦିନେ-ଦିନେ-ଅଥ - day by day then; ପ୍ରତି-ଵୃଦ୍ଧ-ଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀଃ- - increasing in prosperity; ଅକ୍ଷୀଣ-ମାଂଗଲ୍ୟ-ଶତଃ - (and) undiminished in numerous auspiciousness; ଵ୍ରଜଃ-ଅୟମ୍ - Gokul this; ଭଵତ୍-ନିଵାସାତ୍- - by Thy living there; ଅୟି ଵାସୁଦେଵ - O Vaasudeva!; ପ୍ରମୋଦ-ସାଂଦ୍ରଃ - full of happiness; ପରିତଃ ଵିରେଜେ - every where shone;
Translation
O Vaasudeva! Day by day this Gokul developed with prosperity and undiminished auspiciousness as a result of Thy living there. Happiness and undecaying virtue shone everywhere.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଗୃହେଷୁ ତେ କୋମଲରୂପହାସମିଥଃକଥାସଂକୁଲିତାଃ କମନ୍ୟଃ ।
ଵୃତ୍ତେଷୁ କୃତ୍ୟେଷୁ ଭଵନ୍ନିରୀକ୍ଷାସମାଗତାଃ ପ୍ରତ୍ୟହମତ୍ୟନଂଦନ୍ ॥7॥
Meaning
ଗୃହେଷୁ - in (their) house; ତେ କୋମଲ-ରୂପ-ହାସ- - Thy delicate form and smile; ମିଥଃ-କଥା-ସଂକୁଲିତାଃ - mutually narrated, gathering together; କମନ୍ୟଃ - the beautiful (Gopikas); ଵୃତ୍ତେଷୁ କୃତ୍ୟେଷୁ - having completed their daily chores; ଭଵତ୍-ନିରୀକ୍ଷା-ସମାଗତାଃ - to watch Thee, assembled; ପ୍ରତି-ଅହନ୍-ଅତି-ଅନଂଦନ୍ - every day, in great joy;
Translation
In their houses the beautiful Gopikas kept talking to each other about Thy charming form and smile. Having completed their daily chores they assembled in great joy to watch Thee.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଅହୋ କୁମାରୋ ମୟି ଦତ୍ତଦୃଷ୍ଟିଃ ସ୍ମିତଂ କୃତଂ ମାଂ ପ୍ରତି ଵତ୍ସକେନ ।
ଏହ୍ୟେହି ମାମିତ୍ୟୁପସାର୍ୟ ପାଣୀ ତ୍ଵୟୀଶ କିଂ କିଂ ନ କୃତଂ ଵଧୂଭିଃ ॥8॥
Meaning
ଅହୋ କୁମାରଃ - O! the boy; ମୟି ଦତ୍ତ-ଦୃଷ୍ଟିଃ - at me looked; ସ୍ମିତଂ କୃତଂ ମାଂ ପ୍ରତି - smile was made in my direction; ଵତ୍ସକେନ - by the child; ଏହି-ଏହି ମାମ୍-ଇତି - come come to me, thus; ଉପସାର୍ୟ ପାଣୀ - stretching out the hands; ତ୍ଵୟି-ଈଶ - towards Thee O Lord!; କିଂ କିଂ ନ କୃତଂ ଵଧୂଭିଃ - what all was not done by the women;
Translation
O the boy is looking at me,' 'his smile is directed towards me', 'come, come to me', thus remarking they stretched out their hands to hold Thee. O Lord! What all was not done by the Gopikas endearingly.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ଭଵଦ୍ଵପୁଃସ୍ପର୍ଶନକୌତୁକେନ କରାତ୍କରଂ ଗୋପଵଧୂଜନେନ ।
ନୀତସ୍ତ୍ଵମାତାମ୍ରସରୋଜମାଲାଵ୍ୟାଲଂବିଲୋଲଂବତୁଲାମଲାସୀଃ ॥9॥
Meaning
ଭଵତ୍-ଵପୁଃ- - Thy body; ସ୍ପର୍ଶନ-କୌତୁକେନ - in the eagerness to touch; କରାତ୍-କରଂ - from hand to hand; ଗୋପ-ଵଧୂ-ଜନେନ - by the Gopika women; ନୀତଃ-ତ୍ଵମ୍- - were taken Thou; ଆତାମ୍ର-ସରୋଜ-ମାଲା- - very red lotus garland; ଵ୍ୟାଲଂବି-ଲୋଲଂବ- - (as though on it) moving about, a beetle; ତୁଲାମ୍-ଅଲାସୀଃ - resemblance Thou took on;
Translation
They passed Thee from hand to hand, each one of them eager to touch Thy body. As they did so, Thou looked like a honey beetle moving from one very red lotus to another strung together in a garland.
ଶ୍ଲୋକଃ
ନିପାୟୟଂତୀ ସ୍ତନମଂକଗଂ ତ୍ଵାଂ ଵିଲୋକୟଂତୀ ଵଦନଂ ହସଂତୀ ।
ଦଶାଂ ୟଶୋଦା କତମାଂ ନ ଭେଜେ ସ ତାଦୃଶଃ ପାହି ହରେ ଗଦାନ୍ମାମ୍ ॥10॥
Meaning
ନିପାୟୟଂତୀ ସ୍ତନମ୍- - feeding the breasts; ଅଂକଗଂ ତ୍ଵାମ୍ - to who were in the lap, Thee; ଵିଲୋକୟଂତୀ ଵଦନମ୍ - admiring the face; ହସଂତୀ - (and) smiling; ଦଶାଂ ୟଶୋଦା କତମାଂ - states (of joy), Yashodaa, what all; ନ ଭେଜେ - did not attain; ସ ତାଦୃଶଃ ପାହି - That (Thee) who are such, save; ହରେ ଗଦାନ୍-ମାମ୍ - O Lord Hari! Me from diseases;
Translation
O ! What states of joy did Yashodaa, Nanda's wife, not attain as she took Thee in her lap and suckled Thee, with her eyes fixed on Thy smiling face. O Lord Hari! Who are thus! May Thou save me from all ailments.
