ශ්ලෝකඃ
ප්රද්යුම්නෝ රෞක්මිණේයඃ ස ඛලු තව කලා ශංබරේණාහෘතස්තං
හත්වා රත්යා සහාප්තෝ නිජපුරමහරද්රුක්මිකන්යාං ච ධන්යාම් ।
තත්පුත්රෝऽථානිරුද්ධෝ ගුණනිධිරවහද්රෝචනාං රුක්මිපෞත්රීං
තත්රෝද්වාහේ ගතස්ත්වං න්යවධි මුසලිනා රුක්ම්යපි ද්යූතවෛරාත් ॥1॥

Meaning
ප්රද්යුම්නඃ රෞක්මිණේයඃ - Pradyumna, Rukmini's son; ස ඛලු තව කලා - he indeed Thy part incarnation; ශංබරේණ-ආහෘතඃ- - by Shambara was kidnapped; තං හත්වා - him killing; රත්යා සහ-ආප්තඃ - with Rati returned; නිජපුරම්- - to his own city; අහරත්-රුක්මි-කන්යාං - took away Rukmi's daughter; ච ධන්යාං - and she the fortunate one; තත්-පුත්රඃ-අථ- - his son then; අනිරුද්ධඃ ගුණනිධිඃ- - Aniruddha, very virtuous; අවහත්-රෝචනාම් - married Rochanaa; රුක්මි පෞත්රීම් - Rukmi's grand daughter; තත්ර-උද්වාහේ ගතඃ-ත්වං - there, in that wedding Thou went; න්යවධි මුසලිනා - was killed by Balaraam; රුක්මි-අපි - Rukmi also; ද්යූත-වෛරාත් - in the game of dice animosity;

Translation
Pradyumna, Rukmini's son was an aspect of Thy essence and was kidnapped by Shambara at birth. Later Pradyumna killed Shambara and returned to his city of Dwaarikaa with his wife Rati. He also carried away the fortunate daughter of Rukmi and married her. His virtuous son Aniruddha married Rochanaa, the grand daughter of Rukmi. Thou had gone to that wedding. During a game of dice, when a quarrel arose, Rukmi was killed by Balaraam.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
බාණස්ය සා බලිසුතස්ය සහස්රබාහෝ-
ර්මාහේශ්වරස්ය මහිතා දුහිතා කිලෝෂා ।
ත්වත්පෞත්රමේනමනිරුද්ධමදෘෂ්ටපූර්වං
ස්වප්නේऽනුභූය භගවන් විරහාතුරාऽභූත් ॥2॥

Meaning
බාණස්ය සා - of Baana, she; බලි-සුතස්ය - of Bali's son (Baan); සහස්ර-බාහෝඃ- - of a thousand arms; මාහේශ්වරස්ය - devotee of Shiva; මහිතා දුහිතා - the esteemed daughter; කිල-උෂා - indeed Ushaa; ත්වත්-පෞත්රම්-ඒනම්- - Thy grandson this; අනිරුද්ධම්-අදෘෂ්ට-පූර්වම් - Aniruddha not seen before; ස්වප්නේ-අනුභූය - in the dream meeting; භගවන් - O Lord!; විරහ-ආතුරා-අභූත් - separation pangs suffered;

Translation
Bali's son Baana was a devotee of Shiva and had a thousand arms. His esteemed daughter Ushaa had not seen Thy grandson Aniruddha before. She met him in her dreams and suffered pangs of separation from him.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
යෝගින්යතීව කුශලා ඛලු චිත්රලේඛා
තස්යාඃ සඛී විලිඛතී තරුණානශේෂාන් ।
තත්රානිරුද්ධමුෂයා විදිතං නිශායා-
මානේෂ්ට යෝගබලතෝ භවතෝ නිකේතාත් ॥3॥

Meaning
යෝගිනී- - a woman with yogic powers; අතීව කුශලා - and very skilled; ඛලු චිත්රලේඛා - indeed Chitralekhaa; තස්යාඃ සඛි - her (Ushaa's) friend; විලිඛතී - draws (pictures); තරුණාන්-අශේෂාන් - of young men all; තත්ර-අනිරුද්ධම්- - from there, Aniruddha; උෂයා විදිතං - by Ushaa was recognized; නිශායාම්-ආනේෂ්ට - during the night, brought (Chitralekhaa); යෝග-බලතඃ - by yogic powers; භවතඃ නිකේතාත් - from Thy palace;

Translation
Ushaa's friend Chitralekhaa had yogic powers and was very skilled in making drawings. She drew portraits of all the young men. Ushaa picked up Aniruddha's portrait whom she recognized. Chitralekhaa with her yogic powers then brought Aniruddha from Thy palace during the night.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
කන්යාපුරේ දයිතයා සුඛමාරමංතං
චෛනං කථංචන බබංධුෂි ශර්වබංධෞ ।
ශ්රීනාරදෝක්තතදුදංතදුරංතරෝෂෛ-
ස්ත්වං තස්ය ශෝණිතපුරං යදුභිර්න්යරුංධාඃ ॥4॥

Meaning
කන්යා-පුරේ - in the virgin's chambers; දයිතයා - with his beloved (Ushaa); සුඛම්-ආරමංතං - happily sporting; ච-ඒනං කථංචන - and him somehow; බබංධුෂි - tied up; ශර්වබංධෞ - Shiva's devotee; ශ්රී-නාරද-උක්ත- - by Shree Naarada told; තත්-උදංත- - that news; දුරංතඃ-රෝෂෛඃ-ත්වං - (in) unbounded anger Thou; තස්ය ශෝණිතපුරං - his (city) Shonitpura; යදුභිඃ-න්යරුංධාඃ - with Yadus besieged;

Translation
In the virgin's chamber, Aniruddha sported happily with his beloved Ushaa. Baana, Shivaa's devotee came to know this and tied him up. This news was given to Thee by Shree Naarad. In a fit of unbounded anger, Thou besieged Baana's city Shonitpura with the help of the Yaadavas.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
පුරීපාලශ්ශෛලප්රියදුහිතෘනාථෝऽස්ය භගවාන්
සමං භූතව්රාතෛර්යදුබලමශංකං නිරුරුධේ ।
මහාප්රාණෝ බාණෝ ඣටිති යුයුධානේනයුයුධේ
ගුහඃ ප්රද්යුම්නේන ත්වමපි පුරහංත්රා ජඝටිෂේ ॥5॥

Meaning
පුරීපාලඃ- - the protector of the city; ශෛල-ප්රිය-දුහිතෘ-නාථඃ-අස්ය - the mountain's dear daughter's consort, his; භගවාන් - Lord Shiva; සමං භූතව්රාතෛඃ- - with the Bhoota army; යදු-බලම්-අශංකං - the Yaadava army fearlessly; නිරුරුධේ - blocked; මහාප්රාණඃ බාණඃ - the mighty Baana; ඣටිති - quickly; යුයුධානේන යුයුධේ - with Yuyudhaana fought; ගුහඃ ප්රද්යුම්නේන - Guha with Pradyumna; ත්වම්-අපි - Thou too; පුරහංත්රා ජඝටිෂේ - (with) Tripura destroyer Shiva;

Translation
The consort of the mountain's dear daughter, Shiva, being the protector of the city, with his army of the Bhootas blocked the army of the Yadavas, fearlessly. The mighty Baana quickly gave fight to Yuyudhaana, Guha to Pradyumna and Thou to Shiva, the destroyer of the Puras.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
නිරුද්ධාශේෂාස්ත්රේ මුමුහුෂි තවාස්ත්රේණ ගිරිශේ
ද්රුතා භූතා භීතාඃ ප්රමථකුලවීරාඃ ප්රමථිතාඃ ।
පරාස්කංද්ත් ස්කංදඃ කුසුමශරබාණෛශ්ච සචිවඃ
ස කුංභාංඩෝ භාංඩං නවමිව බලේනාශු බිභිදේ ॥6॥

Meaning
නිරුද්ධ-අශේෂ-අස්ත්රේ - resisted were all the weapons; මුමුහුෂි - became unconscious; තව-අස්ත්රේණ ගිරිශේ - by Thy weapon, Shiva; ද්රුතාඃ-භූතාඃ-භීතාඃ - fled the Bhootas in fear; ප්රමථ-කුල-වීරාඃ - of the Pramatha dynasty, the leader; ප්රමථිතාඃ - were crushed; පරාස්කංදත් ස්කංදඃ - was defeated Skanda (guha); කුසුම-ශර-බාණෛඃ-ච - by the flower bows's arrows of Pradyumna and; සචිවඃ ස කුංභාංඩඃ - the minister of Baana, that Kumbhaanda; භාංඩං නවම්-ඉව - a pot new as though; බලේන-ආශු බිභිදේ - by Balaram was soon smashed;

Translation
All Shiva's weapons were resisted and he was rendered unconscious by Thy weapon (Mohanaastra). All the army of the Bhootas fled in fear and the leaders of the Pramathas were crushed. Skanda was defeated, by the flower arrows of Pradyumna's bow. The minister of Baana, Kumbhaanda was soon smashed by Balaraam like a new pot.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
චාපානාං පංචශත්යා ප්රසභමුපගතේ ඡින්නචාපේऽථ බාණේ
ව්යර්ථේ යාතේ සමේතෝ ජ්වරපතිරශනෛරජ්වරි ත්වජ්ජ්වරේණ ।
ජ්ඤානී ස්තුත්වාऽථ දත්වා තව චරිතජුෂාං විජ්වරං ස ජ්වරෝऽගාත්
ප්රායෝऽංතර්ජ්ඤානවංතෝऽපි ච බහුතමසා රෞද්රචේෂ්ටා හි රෞද්රාඃ ॥7॥

Meaning
චාපානාං පංචශත්යා - by bows five hundred; ප්රසභම්-උපගතේ - fiercely attacking; ඡින්න-චාපේ-අථ බාණේ - breaking of the bows then of Baana; ව්යර්ථේ යාතඃ - fruitlessly returning; සමේතඃ ජ්වරපතිඃ- - came the head of all fevers the Shaiva fever; අශනෛඃ-අජ්වරි - immediately tormented; ත්වත්-ජ්වරේණ - by Thy (the Vaishnava fever); ජ්ඤානී ස්තුත්වා-අථ - the enlightened (Shaiva fever) praising then; දත්වා තව චරිතජුෂාං - giving to the (devotees) admirers of Thy excellences; විජ්වරං ස ජ්වරඃ-අගාත් - freedom, that (Shaiva) fever went away; ප්රායඃ-අංතඃ-ජ්ඤාන්වංතඃ-අපි - often inner knowledge having even; ච බහු-තමසා - and by much of Tamas; රෞද්ර-චේෂ්ටා හි රෞද්රාඃ - ferociously act indeed the Rudras;

Translation
Baana came attacking ferociously with 500 bows and arrows, but his weapons being severed he had to retreat. Thereupon, the head of all the obsession, the Shaiva obsession came to the forefront but was immediately put out by the Vaishnava obsession. The enlightened Shaivas gave freedom to all those that sung Thy excellences and went away praising Thee. Often the enlightened Rudras also act ferociously, being predominated by Tamas.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
බාණං නානායුධෝග්රං පුනරභිපතිතං දර්පදෝෂාද්විතන්වන්
නිර්ලූනාශේෂදෝෂං සපදි බුබුධුෂා ශංකරේණෝපගීතඃ ।
තද්වාචා ශිෂ්ටබාහුද්විතයමුභයතෝ නිර්භයං තත්ප්රියං තං
මුක්ත්වා තද්දත්තමානෝ නිජපුරමගමඃ සානිරුද්ධඃ සහෝෂඃ ॥8॥

Meaning
බාණං නානා-ආයුධ-උග්රම් - Baana with various weapons more ferocious; පුනඃ-අභිපතිතං - again having attacked; දර්ප-දෝෂාත්-විතන්වන් - due to the vice of arrogance, made him; නිර්ලූන-අශේෂ-දෝෂං - by cutting off all his vices (arms); සපදි බුබුධුෂා - soon (a) realized (person); ශංකරේණ-උපගීතඃ - by Shankara and praised (Thee); තත්-වාචා - by his request; ශිෂ්ට-බාහු-ද්විතයම්-උභයතඃ - left with arms two on both sides; නිර්භයං තත්-ප්රියං තං - unafraid his devotee him; මුක්ත්වා - letting off; තත්-දත්ත-මානඃ - by him giving honour; නිජ-පුරම්-අගමඃ - to Thy own city returned; සානිරුද්ධ සහෝෂඃ - with Aniruddha (and) with Ushaa;

Translation
Baana again attacked ferociously full of arrogance with his many various weapons. Thou made him devoid of all vice and his many arms by cutting them off. Shankara soon realised Thy greatness and praised Thee and on his request Thou let off Baana with his two arms on both sides. Baana who was then spared from the fear of death honoured Thee. Thou then returned to Thy city Dwaarikaa with Aniruddha and Ushaa.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
මුහුස්තාවච්ඡක්රං වරුණමජයෝ නංදහරණේ
යමං බාලානීතෞ දවදහනපානේऽනිලසඛම් ।
විධිං වත්සස්තේයේ ගිරිශමිහ බාණස්ය සමරේ
විභෝ විශ්වෝත්කර්ෂී තදයමවතාරෝ ජයති තේ ॥9॥

Meaning
මුහුඃ-තාවත්-ශක්රං - again and again then Indra; වරුණම්-අජයඃ - Varuna defeated; නංද-හරණේ - when he had kidnapped Nanda Gopa; යමං බාල-ආනීතෞ - Yama when he had taken away the (Guru's) children; දව-දහන-පානේ- - the forest fire by drinking; අනිල-සඛම් - wind's friend Agni; විධිං වත්ස-ස්තේයේ - Brahmaa when the calves were stolen; ගිරිශම්-ඉහ් - Shiva here; බාණස්ය සමරේ - in Baana's battle; විභෝ - O Lord!; විශ්ව-උත්කර්ෂී - all excelling; තත්-අයම්-අවතාරඃ - therefore this incarnation (of Thee) (as Krishna); ජයති තේ - excels Thine;

Translation
Thou indeed defeated Indra again and again, Varuna was defeated when he kidnapped Nandagopa and Yama was defeated by Thee when he took away the children of Thy Guru. Agni, Vayu's friend was overcome when Thou drank it during the forest fire and Brahmaa was defeated when he stole away the calves. Shiva was defeated here in Baana's battle. Therefore, O Lord! this incarnation of Thee excels and wins over all other of Thy incarnations.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
ද්විජරුෂා කෘකලාසවපුර්ධරං නෘගනෘපං ත්රිදිවාලයමාපයන් ।
නිජජනේ ද්විජභක්තිමනුත්තමාමුපදිශන් පවනේශ්වර් පාහි මාම් ॥10॥

Meaning
ද්විජ-රුෂා - by a holy Braahmin's anger; කෘකලාසඃ-වපුඃ-ධරං - in a chameleon's body form; නෘග-නෘපං - Nriga king; ත්රිදිව-ආලයම්- - to the god's abode (heaven); ආපයන් - sending; නිජ-ජනේ - in Thy people (devotees); ද්විජ-භක්තිම්-අනුත්තමාම්- - for Braahminas respect supreme; උපදිශන් - instructing; පවනේශ්වර පාහි මාම් - O Lord of Guruvaayur!;

Translation
King Nriga who was reduced to the body of a chameleon by a holy Braahmin's curse, was purified and sent to heaven by Thee. By this Thou instructed Thy devotees to have supreme respect for holy Braahmins. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Save me.
