ශ්ලෝකඃ
මදනාතුරචේතසෝऽන්වහං භවදංඝ්රිද්වයදාස්යකාම්යයා ।
යමුනාතටසීම්නි සෛකතීං තරලාක්ෂ්යෝ ගිරිජාං සමාර්චිචන් ॥1॥
Meaning
මදන-ආතුර-චේතසඃ- - with minds overcome by the god of love; අන්වහං - everyday; භවත්-අංඝ්රි-ද්වය- - Thy two feet; දාස්ය-කාම්යයා - to serve desiring; යමුනා-තට-සීම්නි - on the Yamunaa banks nearby; සෛකතීං - made of sand (an image); තරල-ආක්ෂ්යඃ - the beautiful eyed ones (girls); ගිරිජාං - the goddess Kaatyaayini; සමාර්චිචන් - worshipped;
Translation
The beautiful eyed girls of Vraja, overcome by Cupid and love for Thee were desirous of serving Thy two lotus feet. To achieve this, everyday, on the banks of Yamunaa, they made an image of sand of goddess Girijaa and worshipped it.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
තව නාමකථාරතාඃ සමං සුදෘශඃ ප්රාතරුපාගතා නදීම් ।
උපහාරශතෛරපූජයන් දයිතෝ නංදසුතෝ භවේදිති ॥2॥
Meaning
තව - Thy; නාම-කථා-රතාඃ - name and deeds always immersed in; සමං සුදෘශඃ - (they) all beautiful eyed (girls); ප්රාතඃ-උපාගතා - in the morning reaching; නදීම් - the river; උපහාර්-ශතෛඃ- - with hundreds of offerings; අපූජයන් - worshipping (prayed); දයිතඃ නංදසුතඃ - (that) husband, the son of Nanda; භවේත්-ඉති - may become, thus;
Translation
All the beautiful girls were always immersed in chanting Thy name and narrating Thy deeds. In the morning they would go to the river and worship goddess Girijaa with hundreds of offerings and pray to her that Nanda's son, Krishna, may become their husband.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ඉති මාසමුපාහිතව්රතාස්තරලාක්ෂීරභිවීක්ෂ්ය තා භවාන් ।
කරුණාමෘදුලෝ නදීතටං සමයාසීත්තදනුග්රහේච්ඡයා ॥3॥
Meaning
ඉති මාසම්- - thus for one month; උපාහිත-ව්රතාඃ- - having performed the vows; තරලාක්ෂීඃ- - the beautiful eyed (girls); අභිවීක්ෂ්ය තාඃ - seeing them; භවාන් - Thou; කරුණා-මෘදුලඃ - by compassion moved; නදීතටං සමයාසීත්- - to the river bank went; තත්-අනුග්රහ- - to bless them; ඉච්ඡයා - desiring;
Translation
Thou were moved by compassion when Thou saw that the beautiful eyed girls had performed the vows for a month. With a desire to bless them Thou went to the river bank.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
නියමාවසිතෞ නිජාංබරං තටසීමන්යවමුච්ය තාස්තදා ।
යමුනාජලඛේලනාකුලාඃ පුරතස්ත්වාමවලෝක්ය ලජ්ජිතාඃ ॥4॥
Meaning
නියම-අවසිතෞ - vows/observances being completed; නිජ-අංබරං - their clothes; තට-සීමනි- - on the river bank; අවමුච්ය තාඃ- - leaving they; තදා යමුනා-ජල- - then in the Yamunaa waters; ඛේලන-ආකුලාඃ - to sport eager; පුරතඃ-ත්වාම්- - in front Thee; අවලෝක්ය - seeing; ලජ්ජිතාඃ - felt ashamed;
Translation
The observances of the vows being completed, they eagerly went to sport in the Yamunaa waters, leaving their robes behind, on the bank. Seeing Thee in front, they felt very ashamed.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ත්රපයා නමිතානනාස්වථෝ වනිතාස්වංබරජාලමංතිකේ ।
නිහිතං පරිගෘහ්ය භූරුහෝ විටපං ත්වං තරසාऽධිරූඪවාන් ॥5॥
Meaning
ත්රපයා - out of shame; නමිත-ආනනාසු- - with hung heads; අථඃ වනිතාසු- - then (when) the girls; අංබර-ජාලම්- - the heap of clothes; අංතිකේ නිහිතං - near by kept; පරිගෘහ්ය - taking away; භූරුහඃ විටපම් - a tree's branch; ත්වං තරසා- - Thou quickly; අධිරූඪවාන් - climbed up;
Translation
The girls stood with their heads hung in shame. Thou took away the heap of their clothes lying near by and quickly climbed up the branch of a tree.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ඉහ තාවදුපේත්ය නීයතාං වසනං වඃ සුදෘශෝ යථායථම් ।
ඉති නර්මමෘදුස්මිතේ ත්වයි බ්රුවති ව්යාමුමුහේ වධූජනෛඃ ॥6॥
Meaning
ඉහ තාවත්- - here then; උපේත්ය නීයතාං - coming take; වසනං වඃ - clothes you people; සුදෘශඃ - O beautiful eyed ones; යථායථං ඉති - each her own, thus; නර්ම-මෘදු-ස්මිතේ - (with) a soft sweet smile; ත්වයි බ්රුවති - (when) Thou said; ව්යමුමුහේ - they were confused; වධූජනෛඃ - the girls;
Translation
Come here, O beautiful eyed ones! Take each one of you your clothes,' Thou said with a soft sweet smile. The girls were confused when they were asked to do so.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අයි ජීව චිරං කිශෝර නස්තව දාසීරවශීකරෝෂි කිම් ।
ප්රදිශාංබරමංබුජේක්ෂණේත්යුදිතස්ත්වං ස්මිතමේව දත්තවාන් ॥7॥
Meaning
අයි ජීව චිරං - O may you live long; කිශෝර - dear boy; නඃ-තව දාසීඃ- - we (are) Thy servants; අවශී-කරෝෂි කිම් - teasing us why; ප්රදිශ-අංබරම්- - give the clothes; අංබුජේක්ෂණ- - O Lotus eyed one!; ඉති-උදිතඃ- - thus being told; ත්වං ස්මිතම්-ඒව - Thou smile only; දත්තවාන් - gave;
Translation
O dear boy! May you live long. We are your hand maids. Why do you tease us thus? O Lotus eyed one! Give us our clothes.' Thus being told, Thou merely gave a smile.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අධිරුහ්ය තටං කෘතාංජලීඃ පරිශුද්ධාඃ ස්වගතීර්නිරීක්ෂ්ය තාඃ ।
වසනාන්යඛිලාන්යනුග්රහං පුනරේවං ගිරමප්යදා මුදා ॥8॥
Meaning
අධිරුහ්ය තටං - climbing up the bank; කෘතාංජලීඃ - with joined palms; පරිශුද්ධාඃ - purified (at heart); ස්වගතීඃ- - (in Thee) as the sole resort; නිරීක්ෂ්ය තාඃ - seeing, them (as such); වසනානි- - clothes; අඛිලානි- - all; අනුග්රහං - blessings; පුනඃ-ඒවං - again also; ගිරම්-අපි- - words (promise) also; අදා මුදා - gave (to them) with joy;
Translation
Thou saw that the girls had come up the bank with joined palms, that they were purified at heart and that they had surrendered to Thee as their sole resort.Thou with joy gave them back all their clothes and also words of promise as blessings.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
විදිතං නනු වෝ මනීෂිතං වදිතාරස්ත්විහ යෝග්යමුත්තරම් ।
යමුනාපුලිනේ සචංද්රිකාඃ ක්ෂණදා ඉත්යබලාස්ත්වමූචිවාන් ॥9॥
Meaning
විදිතං නනු - known indeed; වඃ මනීෂිතං - (is) your desire; වදිතාරඃ- - (I) will respond; තු-ඉහ - surely here; යෝග්යම්-උත්තරම් - proper (befitting) answer; යමුනා-පුලිනේ - on the Yamunaa banks; සචංද්රිකාඃ - (in) moon lit; ක්ෂණදාඃ ඉති- - nights, thus; අබලාඃ- - to the girls; ත්වම්-ඌචිවාන් - Thou said;
Translation
Known indeed is your desire to me. I will surely give a proper response, in the moon lit nights on the sand banks of Yamunaa.' Thus Thou said to the girls.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
උපකර්ණ්ය භවන්මුඛච්යුතං මධුනිෂ්යංදි වචෝ මෘගීදෘශඃ ।
ප්රණයාදයි වීක්ෂ්ය වීක්ෂ්ය තේ වදනාබ්ජං ශනකෛර්ගෘහං ගතාඃ ॥10॥
Meaning
උපකර්ණ්ය - hearing; භවත්-මුඛ-ච්යුතං - from Thy mouth flowing; මධු-නිෂ්යංදි වචඃ - honey dripping words; මෘගීදෘශඃ - the doe-eyed (girls); ප්රණයාත්-අයි - with love, O Lord!; වීක්ෂ්ය වීක්ෂ්ය - seeing again and again; තේ වදන්-ආබ්ජං - Thy lotus face; ශනකෛඃ-ගෘහං ගතාඃ - slowly home went;
Translation
O Lord! The doe eyed girls heard Thy honey dripping words flowing from Thy mouth. Looking with love at Thy lotus face again and again they slowly went home.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ඉති නන්වනුගෘහ්ය වල්ලවීර්විපිනාංතේෂු පුරේව සංචරන් ।
කරුණාශිශිරෝ හරේ හර ත්වරයා මේ සකලාමයාවලිම් ॥11॥
Meaning
ඉති නනු- - thus indeed; අනුගෘහ්ය - blessing; වල්ලවීඃ- - the Gopikaas; විපින-අංතේෂු - in the forests; පුරා-ඉව සංචරන් - before like moving about; කරුණාශිශිරඃ - O Compassionate and cool; හරේ - O Hari!; හර ත්වරයා - put an end to, soon; මේ සකල- - my all; ආමයාවලිම් - host of ailments;
Translation
Thus Thou blessed the Gopikaas and continued to roam the woods as before. O Hari! With Thy such cooling compassion, quickly put an end to all my hosts of ailments.
