ප්රාතඃ සංත්රස්තභෝජක්ෂිතිපතිවචසා ප්රස්තුතේ මල්ලතූර්යේ
සංඝේ රාජ්ඤාං ච මංචානභියයුෂි ගතේ නංදගෝපේऽපි හර්ම්යම් ।
කංසේ සෞධාධිරූඪේ ත්වමපි සහබලඃ සානුගශ්චාරුවේෂෝ

Meaning
ප්රාතඃ - early next morning; සංත්රස්ත-භෝජ- - at the frightened Kansa; ක්ෂිතිපති-වචසා - king's command; ප්රස්තුතේ මල්ල-තූර්යේ - was commenced the wrestling by the beating of the drums; සංඝේ රාජ්ඤාං ච - and the assembly of kings; මංචාන්-අභියයුෂි - to their seats had ascended; ගතේ නංදගෝපේ- - Nandagopa had gone; අපි හර්ම්යම් - also to the palace; කංසේ-සෞධ-අධිරූඪේ - and Kansa had climbed to the top balcony of his palace; ත්වම්-අපි සහ-බලඃ - Thou also along with Balaraam; සානුගඃ-චාරු-වේෂඃ - and with friends, attractively dressed; රංග-ද්වාරං ගතඃ-අභූඃ - to the gate of the arena went (which was); කුපිත-කුවලයාපීඩ- - by the angered Kuvalayaapeeda; නාග-අවලීඪම් - the elephant obstructed;
Translation
Early the next morning, the frightened king Kansa commanded the commencement of the wrestling by the beating of the drums. The assembly of the kings ascended their respective seats to witness the wrestling. Nandagopa had also gone to the palace, and Kansa had also climbed to the top balcony of his palace. Thou along with Balaraama and Thy friends, dressed attractively approached the gates of the arena which was obstructed by the angered great elephant Kuvalayaapeeda.

පාපිෂ්ඨාපේහි මාර්ගාද්ද්රුතමිති වචසා නිෂ්ඨුරක්රුද්ධබුද්ධේ-
රංබෂ්ඨස්ය ප්රණෝදාදධිකජවජුෂා හස්තිනා ගෘහ්යමාණඃ ।
කේලීමුක්තෝऽථ ගෝපීකුචකලශචිරස්පර්ධිනං කුංභමස්ය
ව්යාහත්යාලීයථාස්ත්වං චරණභුවි පුනර්නිර්ගතෝ වල්ගුහාසී ॥2॥
Meaning
පාපිෂ්ඨ-අපේහි - O wicked one, move away; මාර්ගාත්-ද්රුතම්- - from the way quickly; ඉති වචසා - thus saying; නිෂ්ඨුර-ක්රුද්ධ-බුද්ධේ- - the cruel and angry minded; අංබෂ්ඨස්ය ප්රණෝදාත්- - mahout's prompting; අධික-ජව-ජුෂා - more speed taking; හස්තිනා ගෘහ්යමාණඃ - by the elephant (Thou) being caught; කේලී-මුක්තඃ-අථ - playfully releasing Thyself, then; ගෝපී-කුච-කලශ- - the Gopikas' pot like breasts; චිර-ස්පර්ධිනං - who was always competing; කුංභම්-අස්ය ව්යාහත්ය- - on this (elephant's) forehead striking a blow; අලීයථාඃ-ත්වං - hid Thou; චරණ-භුවි - between its (elephant's) legs; පුනඃ-නිර්ගතඃ - (Thou) again came out; වල්ගු-හාසී - sweetly smiling;
Translation
Thou said 'O wicked one move away from the way quickly'. At this the cruel and angry minded mahout prompted the elephant, who taking great speed caught Thee in its tusks. As though in play Thou released Thyself and struck a blow on the elephant's bulging forehead which rivalled with the Gopikas' pot like breasts. Thou then hid between the elephant's legs for sometime and then came out smiling sweetly.

හස්තප්රාප්යෝऽප්යගම්යෝ ඣටිති මුනිජනස්යේව ධාවන් ගජේංද්රං
ක්රීඩන්නාපාත්ය භූමෞ පුනරභිපතතස්තස්ය දංතං සජීවම් ।
මූලාදුන්මූල්ය තන්මූලගමහිතමහාමෞක්තිකාන්යාත්මමිත්රේ
ප්රාදාස්ත්වං හාරමේභිර්ලලිතවිරචිතං රාධිකායෛ දිශේති ॥3॥
Meaning
හස්ත-ප්රාප්යඃ-අපි- - in the hands grasped also; අගම්යඃ ඣටිති - unattainable hastily; මුනිජනස්ය- - of the sages; ඉව ධාවන් - in the same manner, the running; ගජේංද්රං ක්රීඩන්- - elephant playfully; ආපාත්ය භූමෞ - throwing down on the ground; පුනඃ-අභිපතතඃ-තස්ය - again when charging he was; දංතං සජීවම් - the tooth, live; මූලාත්-උන්මූල්ය - from its roots pulling out; තත්-මූලග- - off its (the tusks') root; මහිත-මහා- - priceless large; මෞක්තිකානි- - pearls; ආත්ම-මිත්රේ - to Thy friend; ප්රාදාඃ-ත්වම් - Thou gave (saying); හාරම්-ඒභිඃ- - necklace with these; ලලිත-විරචිතං - beautifully made; රාධිකායෛ - to Raadhaa; දිශ-ඉති - give, thus;
Translation
To the sages who meditate, just as Thou seem to be in their grasp but suddenly elude them, so also Thou escaped even when Thou were in the grasp of the elephant, running away just when it seemed to catch hold of Thee. Thou then playfully threw him on the ground. As he again rushed towards Thee, Thou pulled out its tooth from the root of its tusk. From there emerged priceless large pearls which Thou gave to Thy friend asking him to get them made into a beautiful necklace and give it to Raadhaa.

ගෘහ්ණානං දංතමංසේ යුතමථ හලිනා රංගමංගාවිශංතං
ත්වාං මංගල්යාංගභංගීරභසහෘතමනෝලෝචනා වීක්ෂ්ය ලෝකාඃ ।
හංහෝ ධන්යෝ හි නංදෝ නහි නහි පශුපාලාංගනා නෝ යශෝදා
නෝ නෝ ධන්යේක්ෂණාඃ ස්මස්ත්රිජගති වයමේවේති සර්වේ ශශංසුඃ ॥4॥
Meaning
ගෘහ්ණානං දංතම්-අංසේ - carrying the tusk on the shoulder; යුතම්-අථ හලිනා - with Balaraam then; රංගම්-අංග- - the arena, O Lord!; ආවිශංතම් - entering; ත්වාං මංගල්ය-අංග-භංගී- - Thee with auspicious beautiful form; රභස-හෘත-මනඃ-ලෝචනා - forcefully drawing the mind and eyes; වීක්ෂ්ය ලෝකාඃ - seeing, the people (exclaimed); හංහෝ ධන්ය හි නංදඃ - Oh! Fortunate indeed is Nanda; නහි නහි පශුපාල-අංගනා - no no the Gopa women; නෝ යශෝදා - no Yashodaa; නෝ නෝ ධන්ය-ඊක්ෂණාඃ ස්මඃ- - no no fortunate are we the onlookers; ත්රිජගති - in the three worlds; වයම්-ඒව-ඉති - we alone (are fortunate) thus; සර්වේ ශශංසුඃ - everyone declared;
Translation
O Lord! Carrying the tusk on the shoulder, as Thou entered the arena with Balaraama, everyone's eyes and minds were forcefully drawn towards Thy auspicious form.The people exclaimed 'O fortunate indeed is Nanda, no no the Gopikaas, no Yashodaa, no no we the onlookers are fortunate, we alone are fortunate indeed in the three worlds.' Thus everyone declared.

පූර්ණං බ්රහ්මෛව සාක්ෂාන්නිරවධි පරමානංදසාංද්රප්රකාශං
ගෝපේශු ත්වං ව්යලාසීර්න ඛලු බහුජනෛස්තාවදාවේදිතෝऽභූඃ ।
දෘෂ්ට්වාऽථ ත්වාං තදේදංප්රථමමුපගතේ පුණ්යකාලේ ජනෞඝාඃ
පූර්ණානංදා විපාපාඃ සරසමභිජගුස්ත්වත්කෘතානි ස්මෘතානි ॥5॥
Meaning
පූර්ණං බ්රහ්ම-ඒව - The Complete Brahman Itself That Thou are; සාක්ෂාත්-නිරවධි - right in front, free from all limitations; පරම-ආනංද-සාංද්ර-ප්රකාශං - of the nature of supreme bliss and pure consciousness; ගෝපේෂු ත්වං ව්යලාසීඃ- - among the Gopas Thou shone; න ඛලු බහු-ජනෛඃ- - not indeed by many people; තාවත්-ආවිදේතඃ-අභූඃ - then (Thou) were known (as Brahamn); දෘෂ්ට්වා-අථ ත්වාං - then seeing Thee; තත්-ඉදම්-ප්රථමම්- - that this for the first time; උපගතේ පුණ්යකාලේ - arising of the auspicious time; ජන-ඖඝාඃ - hordes of people; පූර්ණානංදා විපාපාඃ - full of bliss, becoming free from sin; සරසම්-අභිජගුඃ- - joyfully narrated; ත්වත්-කෘතානි ස්මෘතානි - Thy deeds, which they remembered;
Translation
Not many people had the knowledge that Thou who shone and lived among the Gopas were Brahman incarnate and the essence of Supreme Bliss and Pure consciousness, free from all limitations. For many of them the auspicious time had arisen that they saw Thee for the first time and were full of bliss and became free from sin and joyfully narrated Thy deeds which they remembered.

චාණූරෝ මල්ලවීරස්තදනු නෘපගිරා මුෂ්ටිකෝ මුෂ්ටිශාලී
ත්වාං රාමං චාභිපේදේ ඣටඣටිති මිථෝ මුෂ්ටිපාතාතිරූක්ෂම් ।
උත්පාතාපාතනාකර්ෂණවිවිධරණාන්යාසතාං තත්ර චිත්රං
මෘත්යෝඃ ප්රාගේව මල්ලප්රභුරගමදයං භූරිශෝ බංධමෝක්ෂාන් ॥6॥
Meaning
චාණූරඃ මල්ලවීරඃ- - Chaanoora, the champion wrestler; තදනු නෘප-ගිරා - thereafter, at the king's command; මුෂ්ටිකඃ මුෂ්ටිශාලී - Mushtika, the boxer; ත්වාං රාමං ච-අභිපේදේ - Thee and Balaraama attacked; ඣටඣටිති මිථඃ - loudly and mutually; මුෂ්ටි-පාත-අති-රූක්ෂම් - with fists and blows fierce; උත්පාත-ආපාතන-ආකර්ෂණ- - throwing up, pushing down and dragging; විවිධ-රණානි- - (such) various methods of fight; ආසතාං තත්ර චිත්රං - which were there, what a wonder; මෘත්යෝඃ ප්රාක්-ඒව - even before death; මල්ලප්රභුඃ-අගමත්-අයං - this champion of wrestling attained; භූරිශඃ බංධ-මෝක්ෂාන් - many times bondage and release;
Translation
At the king's command the champion wrestler Chaanoor and the boxer Mushtika attacked Thee and Balaraama. There were mutual and loud and fierce blows of fists, throwing up, pushing down and dragging and various such methods of fight were used. What a wonder it is that the leading wrestler Chaanoor, even before his death attained bondage and release many times at Thy hands.

හා ධික් කෂ්ටං කුමාරෞ සුලලිතවපුෂෞ මල්ලවීරෞ කඨෝරෞ
න ද්රක්ෂ්යාමෝ ව්රජාමස්ත්වරිතමිති ජනේ භාෂමාණේ තදානීම් ।
චාණූරං තං කරෝද්භ්රාමණවිගලදසුං පෝථයාමාසිථෝර්ව්යාං
පිෂ්ටෝऽභූන්මුෂ්ටිකෝऽපි ද්රුතමථ හලිනා නෂ්ටශිෂ්ටෛර්දධාවේ ॥7॥
Meaning
හා ධික් කෂ්ටං - alas! How bad!; කුමාරෞ සුලලිත-වපුෂෞ - the two boys, tender bodied; මල්ලවීරෞ කඨෝරෞ - the (two) wrestlers are tough; න ද්රක්ෂ්යාමඃ - (we will) not see (this fight); ව්රජාමඃ-ත්වරිතම්- - will go away quickly; ඉති ජනේ භාෂමාණේ - thus when people were talking; තදානීං චාණූරං තං - then that Chaanoor; කර-උද්භ්රාමණ- - (who was) by hand whirled around (by Thee); විගලත්-අසුං - (and so) whose life slipped away (he died); පෝථයාමාසිථ-උර්ව්යාං - (Thou) threw him on the earth; පිෂ්ටඃ-අභූත්-මුෂ්ටිකඃ-අපි - crushed was Mushtika also; ද්රුතම්-අථ හලිනා - quickly then by Balaraama; නෂ්ට-ශිෂ්ටෛඃ-දධාවේ - other than the (two) killed ran away;
Translation
Alas! How bad! The two boys are tender bodied and the two wrestlers are tough. We will go away quickly and not see this unequal contest,' thus the people were talking among themselves. Just then Thou caught hold of Chaanoor's arm and whirled him round and round and threw him dead on the ground. Mushtika was also quickly crushed to death by Balaraama. The remaining wrestlers ran away out of fear.

කංස සංවාර්ය තූර්යං ඛලමතිරවිදන් කාර්යමාර්යාන් පිතෘංස්තා-
නාහංතුං ව්යාප්තමූර්තේස්තව ච සමශිෂද්දූරමුත්සාරණාය ।
රුෂ්ටෝ දුෂ්ටෝක්තිභිස්ත්වං ගරුඩ ඉව ගිරිං මංචමංචන්නුදංචත්-
ඛඩ්ගව්යාවල්ගදුස්සංග්රහමපි ච හඨාත් ප්රාග්රහීරෞග්රසේනිම් ॥8॥
Meaning
කංස සංවාර්ය තූර්යං - Kansa, stopping the drums; ඛල-මතිඃ-අවිදන් - (he) the wicked not knowing; කාර්යම්- - what to do; ආර්යාන්-පිතॄන්-තාන්-ආහංතුං - those respected parents to be killed; ව්යාප්තමූර්තේඃ-තව - O Omniscient Lord! Thine (the parents); ච සමශිෂත්- - and ordered; දූරම්-උත්සාරණාය - to drive far away; රුෂ්ටඃ දුෂ්ට-උක්තිභිඃ -ත්වං - annoyed by wicked words Thou; ගරුඩඃ-ඉව ගිරිං - like Garuda flying to (the top of a ) mountain; මංචම්-අංචන්- - jumping to the throne (of Kansa); උදංචත්-ඛඩ්ග-ව්යාවල්ග- - raised up sword brandishing; දුස්සංග්රහම්-අපි - (so) difficult to catch hold of (such Kansa); ච හඨාත් ප්රාග්රහීඃ- - with determination (Thou) caught hold of; ඖග්රසේනිම් - that son of Ugrasena;
Translation
Kansa asked for the drums to be stopped. Then the wicked one not knowing what to do ordered for Thy respected parents to be killed. O Omnipresent Lord! He also ordered that Thou be driven away to a remote place. Thou were very annoyed at his wicked words. Thou leaped with determination to the throne of Kansa to the highest balcony of his palace, like a Garuda ascends to the top of the mountain, and gripped him, the son of Ugrasena, though he was difficult to catch hold of because he resisted with brandishing a sword.

සද්යෝ නිෂ්පිෂ්ටසංධිං භුවි නරපතිමාපාත්ය තස්යෝපරිෂ්ටා-
ත්ත්වය්යාපාත්යේ තදෛව ත්වදුපරි පතිතා නාකිනාං පුෂ්පවෘෂ්ටිඃ ।
කිං කිං බ්රූමස්තදානීං සතතමපි භියා ත්වද්ගතාත්මා ස භේජේ
සායුජ්යං ත්වද්වධෝත්ථා පරම පරමියං වාසනා කාලනේමේඃ ॥9॥
Meaning
සද්යඃ නිෂ්පිෂ්ට-සංධිං - immediately crushing his joints; භුවි නරපතිම්-ආපාත්ය - on the ground the king hurling; තස්ය-උපරිෂ්ටාත්- - on top of him; ත්වයි-ආපාත්යේ තදා-ඒව - Thou falling at that very moment; ත්වත්-උපරි පතිතා - on Thee fell; නාකිනාං පුෂ්ප වෘෂ්ටිඃ - from the gods, shower of flowers; කිං කිං බ්රූමඃ-තදානීං - what all should I say, at that time; සතතම්-අපි භියා - always out of fear; ත්වත්-ගත-ආත්මා ස භේජේ - thinking of you he attained; සායුජ්යං ත්වත්-වධ-උත්ථා - union with Thee, arising from Thee killing him; පරම පරම-ඉයං - O Supreme Being! This alone; වාසනා කාලනේමේඃ - was the vaasanaa (past life's tendency), of Kaalanemi;
Translation
Immediately crushing his joints Thou hurled the king on the ground and jumped on his body. At that very moment the gods in heaven showered flowers on Thee. What shall I say! O Supreme Being! Though Kansa always remembered Thee out of fear, he attained union with Thee as a result of Thou killing him. This was due to his vaasanaa (past life's tendency) as Kaalanemi (in his previous birth) who was killed by Thee.

තද්භ්රාතෘනෂ්ට පිෂ්ට්වා ද්රුතමථ පිතරෞ සන්නමන්නුග්රසේනං
කෘත්වා රාජානමුච්චෛර්යදුකුලමඛිලං මෝදයන් කාමදානෛඃ ।
භක්තානාමුත්තමං චෝද්ධවමමරගුරෝරාප්තනීතිං සඛායං
ලබ්ධ්වා තුෂ්ටෝ නගර්යාං පවනපුරපතේ රුංධි මේ සර්වරෝගාන් ॥10॥
Meaning
තත්-භ්රාතෘන්-අෂ්ට පිෂ්ට්වා - his eight brothers killing; ද්රුතම්-අථ - quickly then; පිතරෞ සන්නමන්- - prostrating before the parents; උග්රසේනං කෘත්වා රාජානම්- - Ugrasena making the king; උච්චෛඃ-යදුකුලම්-අඛිලං - greatly the whole of the Yaadava clan; මෝදයන් කාමදානෛඃ - making happy by giving what they desired; භක්තානාම්-උත්තමං - and the greatest of devotees; ච-උද්ධවම්- - Uddhava; අමරගුරෝඃ-ආප්ත-නීතිං - who had received the ethics from the preceptors of gods (Brahaspati); සඛායං ලබ්ධ්වා - getting as friend; තුෂ්ටඃ නගර්යාං - satisfied (resided) in the capital city; පවනපුරපතේ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; රුංධි මේ සර්ව-රෝගාන් - remove my all afflictions;
Translation
Quickly then Thou killed Kansa's eight brothers. Prostrating before Thy parents, Thou made Ugrasena the king and made the whole Yaadava clan greatly happy by giving them what they desired. Thou then got Uddhava as friend who was the greatest of devotees and had received instructions into the laws of ethics from the preceptor of gods, Brihaspati. Thou resided in the capital with satisfaction. O Lord of Guruvaayur! deign to remove all my afflictions.
