ශ්ලෝකඃ
අයි දේව පුරා කිල ත්වයි ස්වයමුත්තානශයේ ස්තනංධයේ ।
පරිජෘංභණතෝ ව්යපාවෘතේ වදනේ විශ්වමචෂ්ට වල්ලවී ॥1॥
Meaning
අයි දේව - O Lord!; පුරා කිල - long ago indeed; ත්වයි ස්වයම්- - (when) Thou by Thyself; උත්තානශයේ - while lying on the back; ස්තනංධයේ - and sucking at the breast (of Yashodaa); පරිජෘංභණතඃ - by yawning; ව්යපාවෘතේ වදනේ - in Thy open mouth; විශ්වම්-අචෂ්ට - the universe, was seen; වල්ලවී - by the cowherdess (Yashodaa);
Translation
O Lord! Once long ago, as Thou were lying flat on the back, in the lap of Yashodaa and sucking at her breast, Thou yawned. As Thou did so, in Thy open mouth, Thou revealed to her the whole universe.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
පුනරප්යථ බාලකෛඃ සමං ත්වයි ලීලානිරතේ ජගත්පතේ ।
ඵලසංචයවංචනක්රුධා තව මෘද්භෝජනමූචුරර්භකාඃ ॥2॥
Meaning
පුනඃ-අපි-අථ - again also; බාලකෛඃ සමං - with the children; ත්වයි ලීලා-නිරතේ - (when) Thou were engrossed in play; ජගත්පතේ - O Lord of the Universe!; ඵල-සංචය- - in collecting the fruits; වංචන-ක්රුධා - being cheated and angered (the children); තව මෘද්-භෝජනම්- - Thy eating of sand; ඌචුඃ-අර්භකාඃ - reported the children;
Translation
O Lord of the Universe! Again once, as Thou were playing with other children, Thou cheated them in collecting fruits. Angered at this, they reported to Thy mother that Thou had eaten mud.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අයි තේ ප්රලයාවධෞ විභෝ ක්ෂිතිතෝයාදිසමස්තභක්ෂිණඃ ।
මෘදුපාශනතෝ රුජා භවේදිති භීතා ජනනී චුකෝප සා ॥3॥
Meaning
අයි - O (Thou); තේ ප්රලය-අවධෞ - Thee at the time of deluge; විභෝ - O Lord!; ක්ෂිති-තෝය-ආදි- - earth water etc; සමස්ත-භක්ෂිණඃ - everything consuming; මෘද්-උපාශනතඃ - by eating mud,; රුජා භවේත්-ඉති - sickness may be, thus; භීතා ජනනී - (Thy) frightened mother; චුකෝප සා - she became angry;
Translation
O Lord! At the time of the deluge Thou do consume everything earth water etc. Yet Thy mother was frightened that Thou may fall sick by eating mud and so she became angry.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අයි දුර්විනයාත්මක ත්වයා කිමු මෘත්සා බත වත්ස භක්ෂිතා ।
ඉති මාතෘගිරං චිරං විභෝ විතථාං ත්වං ප්රතිජජ්ඤිෂේ හසන් ॥4॥
Meaning
අයි දුර්විනයාත්මක - O naughty (one); ත්වයා කිමු - by you was it; මෘත්සා බත - that mud indeed; වත්ස භක්ෂිතා - O son, was eaten; ඉති මාතෘගිරං - such the words of Thy mother; චිරං විභෝ - for a long time O Lord; විතථාං ත්වං - as false, Thee; ප්රතිජජ්ඤිෂේ හසන් - asserted laughingly;
Translation
O you naughty one! Is it that you have eaten mud O son!' O Lord! These words of Thy mother, for a long time, Thou kept on denying and laughingly asserted that Thou had not done so.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අයි තේ සකලෛර්විනිශ්චිතේ විමතිශ්චේද්වදනං විදාර්යතාම් ।
ඉති මාතෘවිභර්ත්සිතෝ මුඛං විකසත්පද්මනිභං ව්යදාරයඃ ॥5॥
Meaning
අයි තේ - O Boy! Of you; සකලෛඃ-විනිශ්චිතේ - by every one asserted; විමතිඃ-චේත්- - is, if disagreed; වදනං විදාර්යතාම් - mouth (please) open; ඉති මාතෘ-විභර්ත්සිතඃ - thus by mother reprimanded; මුඛං විකසත්-පද්ම-නිභම් - the mouth opening, lotus like; ව්යදාරයඃ - (Thou) opened;
Translation
O Boy! If you deny what all the others are saying, please open your mouth.' Thus reprimanded by Thy mother, Thou opened Thy mouth as a lotus in full bloom.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අපි මෘල්ලවදර්ශනෝත්සුකාං ජනනීං තාං බහු තර්පයන්නිව ।
පෘථිවීං නිඛිලාං න කේවලං භුවනාන්යප්යඛිලාන්යදීදෘශඃ ॥6॥
Meaning
අපි මෘල්-ලව - even a mud trace; දර්ශන-උත්සුකාං - eager to see; ජනනීං තාං - to mother that; බහු තර්පයන්-ඉව - very much trying to please as though,; පෘථිවීං නිඛිලාං - the earth whole; න කේවලං - not only; භුවනාන්-අපි- - the other worlds also; අඛිලාන්-අදීදෘශඃ - entirely showed;
Translation
Thy mother was eager to see just a trace of mud in Thy mouth. As though to please her, and to give her abundant satisfaction Thou showed her in Thy mouth not only this whole earth but the entire universe.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
කුහචිද්වනමංබුධිඃ ක්වචිත් ක්වචිදභ්රං කුහචිද්රසාතලම් ।
මනුජා දනුජාඃ ක්වචිත් සුරා දදෘශේ කිං න තදා ත්වදානනේ ॥7॥
Meaning
කුහචිත්-වනම්- - somewhere the forests; අංබුධිඃ ක්වචිත් - the oceans somewhere; ක්වචිත්-අභ්රං - somewhere the sky; කුහචිත්-රසාතලම් - somewhere the Rasaatala; මනුජාඃ දනුජාඃ - human beings, demons; ක්වචිත් සුරාඃ - somewhere the devas; දදෘශේ කිං න - seen what not was; තදා ත්වත්-ආනනේ - at that time in Thy mouth;
Translation
At that time, in Thy mouth what not was seen by Yashodaa? Somewhere the forests and oceans, somewhere the skies and Rasaatala, human beings and demons, gods and devas!
ශ්ලෝකඃ
කලශාංබුධිශායිනං පුනඃ පරවෛකුංඨපදාධිවාසිනම් ।
ස්වපුරශ්ච නිජාර්භකාත්මකං කතිධා ත්වාං න දදර්ශ සා මුඛේ ॥8॥
Meaning
කලශ-අංබුධි-ශායිනං - in the milk ocean, the recliner; පුනඃ පර-වෛකුංඨපද- - as the Paramaatamaa, in the Vaikuntha abode; අධිවාසිනම් - the resident; ස්ව-පුරඃ-ච - in front of herself; නිජ-අර්භක-ආත්මකං - as her own son; කතිධා - in how many ways; ත්වාං න දදර්ශ - Thee did not see; සා මුඛේ - she in (Thy) mouth;
Translation
Yashodaa saw in Thy mouth the recliner in the milk ocean. Again she saw Paramaatamaa, the resident of the Vaikunth abode. Then she saw Thee as her son in front of her. In how many different ways did she not see Thee.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
විකසද්භුවනේ මුඛෝදරේ නනු භූයෝऽපි තථාවිධානනඃ ।
අනයා ස්ඵුටමීක්ෂිතෝ භවානනවස්ථාං ජගතාං බතාතනෝත් ॥9॥
Meaning
විකසත්-භුවනේ - revealing the worlds; මුඛ-උදරේ - in the inside of the mouth; නනු භූයඃ-අපි - indeed then again also; තථා-විධ-ආනනඃ - that same type of face; අනයා ස්ඵුටම්-ඊක්ෂිතඃ - by her was clearly seen; භවාන්-අනවස්ථාං - Thou as the infinitude; ජගතාං - of the universe; බත්-ආතනෝත් - definitely expounded;
Translation
In the cavity of Thy mouth she saw all the worlds, where even Thou were present with Thy mouth open, once again, in which again all the worlds were seen; and so on endlessly. This definitely expounded Thou as the infinitude of the universe.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ධෘතතත්ත්වධියං තදා ක්ෂණං ජනනීං තාං ප්රණයේන මෝහයන් ।
ස්තනමංබ දිශේත්යුපාසජන් භගවන්නද්භුතබාල පාහි මාම් ॥10॥
Meaning
ධෘත-තත්ත්ව-ධියං - holding the reality in the mind; තදා ක්ෂණං - at that time for a moment; ජනනීං තාං - to the mother; ප්රණයේන මෝහයන් - by affection enchanting (deluding); ස්තනම්-අංබ දිශ- - breast milk O Mother give'; ඉති-උපාසජන් - thus embracing; භගවන්- - O Lord!; අද්භුත-බාල - O Wonderful Child!; පාහි මාම් - protect me;
Translation
At that time for a moment, Yashodaa had a flash of illumination. Thou with affection deluded her and clung to her, calling her 'Mother' and demanded to be suckled. O Lord! Thou the Wondrous Child! Deign to protect me.
