ශ්ලෝකඃ
සාල්වෝ භෛෂ්මීවිවාහේ යදුබලවිජිතශ්චංද්රචූඩාද්විමානං
විංදන් සෞභං ස මායී ත්වයි වසති කුරුංස්ත්වත්පුරීමභ්යභාංක්ෂීත් ।
ප්රද්යුම්නස්තං නිරුංධන්නිඛිලයදුභටෛර්න්යග්රහීදුග්රවීර්යං
තස්යාමාත්යං ද්යුමංතං ව්යජනි ච සමරඃ සප්තවිංශත්යහාංතඃ ॥1॥

Meaning
සාල්වඃ භෛෂ්මී-විවාහේ - Saalva, in Rukmini's wedding; යදු-බල-විජිතඃ- - by the Yaadava army conquered; චංද්රචූඩාත්-විමානං - from Shankara the aerial car; විංදන් සෞභං - getting the Saubha; ස මායී ත්වයි - that elusive one, when Thou; වසති කුරූන්- - were in Kuru's city (Indraprastha); ත්වත්-පුරීම්-අභ්යභාංක්ෂීත් - Thy city (Dwaarikaa) attacked; ප්රද්යුම්නඃ-තං - Pradyumna, him; නිරුංධන්- - resisting; නිඛිල-යදු-භටෛඃ- - with the entire Yadu army; න්යග්රහීත්-උග්ර-වීර්යං - killed very powerful; තස්ය-ආමාත්යං ද්යුමංතං - his minister Dyumanta; ව්යජනි ච සමරඃ - and the battle lasted; සප්ත-විංශති-අහාංතඃ - twenty seven days;

Translation
Saalva of magical merits, who was defeated by the Yaadava army at the time of Rukmini's abduction, got Saubh the aerial car as a boon from Shivaa.When Thou were residing in the city of the Kurus, Indraprastha, Saalva attacked Thy city Dwaarika. Pradyumna resisted him heading the entire army of the Yaadavas, and killed his powerful minister Dyumanta. This battle lasted for 27 days.

තාවත්ත්වං රාමශාලී ත්වරිතමුපගතඃ ඛංඩිතප්රායසෛන්යං
සෞභේශං තං න්යරුංධාඃ ස ච කිල ගදයා ශාර්ඞ්ගමභ්රංශයත්තේ ।
මායාතාතං ව්යහිංසීදපි තව පුරතස්තත්ත්වයාපි ක්ෂණාර්ධං
නාජ්ඤායීත්යාහුරේකේ තදිදමවමතං ව්යාස ඒව න්යෂේධීත් ॥2॥

Meaning
තාවත්-ත්වං රාමශාලී - then Thou with Balaraam; ත්වරිතම්-උපගතඃ - quickly reaching; ඛංඩිත-ප්රාය-සෛන්යං - almost destroying army; සෞභේශං තං න්යරුංධාඃ - the owner of Saubh, him, confronted; ස ච කිල ගදයා - and he indeed with his mace; ශාර්ඞ්ගම්-අභ්රංශයත්-තේ - Sharanga knocked down, Thine; මායා-තාතං - created by magic, father; ව්යහිංසීත්-අපි - killed also; තව-පුරතඃ-තත්-ත්වයා-අපි - in front of Thee, that by Thee also; ක්ෂණාර්ධං න-අජ්ඤායි-ඉති - for a second was not understood; ආහුඃ-ඒකේ තත්-ඉදම්-අවයතං - say some that, this difference of opinion; ව්යාස ඒව න්යෂේධීත් - Vyaas himself refuted;

Translation
Along with Balaraam Thou quickly reached Dwaarika and confronted Saalva the owner of the aerial car Saubha whose army was almost destroyed. He knocked down Thy bow Shaaranga with a stroke of his mace. He even killed the likeness of Thy father which he had created by his magical abilities. Some say that even Thou were for a moment deceived by this illusion. But sage Vyaas has refuted this opinion.

ක්ෂිප්ත්වා සෞභං ගදාචූර්ණිතමුදකනිධෞ මංක්ෂු සාල්වේऽපි චක්රේ-
ණෝත්කෘත්තේ දංතවක්ත්රඃ ප්රසභමභිපතන්නභ්යමුංචද්ගදාං තේ ।
කෞමෝදක්යා හතෝऽසාවපි සුකෘතනිධිශ්චෛද්යවත්ප්රාපදෛක්යං
සර්වේෂාමේෂ පූර්වං ත්වයි ධෘතමනසාං මෝක්ෂණාර්ථෝऽවතාරඃ ॥3॥

Meaning
ක්ෂිප්ත්වා සෞභං - ; ගදා-චූර්ණිතම්- - throwing Saubha; උදකනිධෞ මංක්ෂු - by the mace smashed to powder; සාල්වේ-අපි-චක්රේණ- - in the ocean, immediately; උත්කෘත්තේ දංතවක්ත්රඃ - (when) Saalva also by (Sudarshana discus); ප්රසභම්-අභිපතන්- - was cut off, Dantavaktra; අභ්යමුංචත්-ගදාං තේ - violently attacking; ක්මෝදක්යා - hitting with the mace, Thee; හතඃ-අසෞ-අපි - by Kaumudaki; සුකෘති-නිධිඃ- - killed he also; චෛද්ය-වත්-ප්රාපත්--ඓක්යං - the good deeds repository; සර්වේෂාම්-ඒෂ - like Chedi attained union; පූර්වං ත්වයි ධෘත-මනසාං - for all, this; මෝක්ෂණ-අර්ථඃ-අවතාරඃ - from long in Thee had fixed their minds;

Translation
The aerial car Saubha was smashed to pieces with a mace and thrown into the sea, Saalva's head was also cut off by Thy Sudershana discus. Dantavaktra then attacked Thee violently and hit Thee with his mace, thereupon Thou killed him, the repository of good deeds, with Thy mace Kaumodaki. He was fortunate like Shishupal (Chedi) and others who had attained union with Thee. The purpose of this incarnation of Thee was to give liberation to all those who had for long fixed their minds on Thee.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
ත්වය්යායාතේऽථ ජාතේ කිල කුරුසදසි ද්යූතකේ සංයතායාඃ
ක්රංදංත්යා යාජ්ඤසේන්යාඃ සකරුණමකෘථාශ්චේලමාලාමනංතාම් ।
අන්නාංතප්රාප්තශර්වාංශජමුනිචකිතද්රෞපදීචිංතිතෝऽථ
ප්රාප්තඃ ශාකාන්නමශ්නන් මුනිගණමකෘථාස්තෘප්තිමංතං වනාංතේ ॥4॥

Meaning
ත්වයි-ආයාතේ-අථ - ; ජාතේ කිල කුරුසදසි - (when) Thou went back (to Dwaarika); ද්යූතකේ සංයතායාඃ - took place indeed (then) in the Kuru assembly; ක්රංදංත්යා යාජ්ඤසේන්යාඃ - in the (fraudulent) game of dice was dragged; සකරුණම්-අකෘථාඃ- - crying Draupadi; චේල-මාලාම්-අනංතාම් - piteously, Thou did; අන්න-අංත-ප්රාප්ත- - her clothing of length endless; ශර්වාංශජ-මුනි- - (after) the food was over, arriving; චකිත්-ද්රෞපදී- - by a part of Shankara (born), Muni (Durwaasaa); චිංතිතඃ-අථ ප්රාප්තඃ - by frightened Draupadi; ශාක-අන්නම්-අශ්නන් - being thought of Thee, then, reaching there; මුනිගණම්-අකෘථාඃ- - some leafy vegetable (left over) eating; ත්ප්තිම්-අංතං වනාංතේ - the sage and his men made;

Translation
After Thy return to Dwaarikaa, a fraudulent game of dice took place in the assembly of the Kurus. Draupadi was dragged there by her hair. Piteously and helplessly crying she prayed to Thee. With compassion Thou endowed her with endless length of clothing. Further, when living in the forest, Draupadi was very frightened because sage Durvaasaa had come there with his people when the food was over. Draupadi again thought of Thee and Thou came to her rescue and ate a bit of the left over leafy vegetable and thereby satiated fully the hunger of the sage and his retinue.

යුද්ධෝද්යෝගේऽථ මංත්රේ මිලති සති වෘතඃ ඵල්ගුනේන ත්වමේකඃ
කෞරව්යේ දත්තසෛන්යඃ කරිපුරමගමෝ දූත්යකෘත් පාංඩවාර්ථම් ।
භීෂ්මද්රෝණාදිමාන්යේ තව ඛලු වචනේ ධික්කෘතේ කෞරවේණ
ව්යාවෘණ්වන් විශ්වරූපං මුනිසදසි පුරීං ක්ෂෝභයිත්වාගතෝऽභූඃ ॥5॥

Meaning
යුද්ධ-උද්යෝගේ-අථ - ; මංත්රේ මිලති සති - for the was preparations, then; වෘතඃ ඵල්ගුනේන ත්වම්-ඒකඃ - strategies were being made; කෞරව්යේ දත්ත-සෛන්යඃ - desired by Arjun Thou alone; කරිපුරම්-අගමඃ - to Duryodhana gave the army; දූත්ය-කෘත් පාංඩව-අර්ථම් - to Hastinaapur went; භීෂ්ම-ද්රෝණ-ආදි-මාන්යේ - in the role of a messenger for the Paandavas; තව ඛලු වචනේ - by Bhishma Drona and others (Thou) being honoured; ධික්කෘතේ කෞරවේණ - (by) Thy indeed by words; ව්යාවෘණ්වන් විශ්වරූපං - rejected by Duryodhana; මුනි-සදසි - revealing the Cosmic form; පුරීං ක්ෂෝභයිත්වා- - in the sage's assembly; ගතඃ-අභූඃ - the city shaking went away;

Translation
As the preparations of the war were on and strategies were decided, Arjuna asked Thee alone to be on his side. Agreeing to that, Thou gave Thy army to Duryodhana. Taking on the role of a messenger of the Pandavas, Thou went to Hastinaapur. Indeed Thy words were honoured by Bhishma, Drona and others but Duryodhana rejected them altogether. Revealing Thy Cosmic form in the assembly of the sages Thou shook up the entire Hastinaapur and returned to Dwaarikaa.

ජිෂ්ණෝස්ත්වං කෘෂ්ණ සූතඃ ඛලු සමරමුඛේ බංධුඝාතේ දයාලුං
ඛින්නං තං වීක්ෂ්ය වීරං කිමිදමයි සඛේ නිත්ය ඒකෝऽයමාත්මා ।
කෝ වධ්යඃ කෝऽත්ර හංතා තදිහ වධභියං ප්රෝජ්ඣ්ය මය්යර්පිතාත්මා
ධර්ම්යං යුද්ධං චරේති ප්රකෘතිමනයථා දර්ශයන් විශ්වරූපම් ॥6॥

Meaning
ජිෂ්ණෝඃ-ත්වං - ; කෘෂ්ණ සූතඃ ඛලු - of Arjun Thou; සමර-මුඛේ - O Krishna! Charioteer indeed; බංධු-ඝාතේ දයාලුං - in the face of the battle; ඛින්නං තං වීක්ෂ්ය වීරං - in the relations' killing pitiful; කිම්-ඉදම්-අයි සඛේ - saddened him, seeing that warrior; නිත්යඃ-ඒකඃ-අයම්-ආත්මා - what is this O friend!; කඃ වධ්යඃ - eternal and one this Aatmaa (self) is; කඃ-අත්ර හංතා - who is the slain; තත්-ඉහ - who here is the slayer; වධ-භියං ප්රෝජ්ඣ්ය - so here; මයි-අර්පිත-ආත්මා - the killing fear giving up; ධර්ම්යං යුද්ධං චර-ඉති - in me surrendering yourself; ප්රකෘතිම්-අනයථාඃ - the righteous war carry out; දර්ශයන් විශ්වරූපම් - to a balanced state of mind (thus) brought (him);

Translation
In Thy role as Arjuna's charioteer, Thou saw the warrior sad and dejected in the face of the war, with the pitiful thought of having to kill his relations and his own people. Thou said to him 'O Friend! What is this? Aatman is eternal and only one. Who is the slain and who is the slayer here? Therefore giving up all fear of killing, surrender yourself to Me and carry out this righteous war.' By saying so and showing him Thy cosmic form, Thou brought Arjuna back to a balanced state of mind.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
භක්තෝත්තංසේऽථ භීෂ්මේ තව ධරණිභරක්ෂේපකෘත්යෛකසක්තේ
නිත්යං නිත්යං විභිංදත්යයුතසමධිකං ප්රාප්තසාදේ ච පාර්ථේ ।
නිශ්ශස්ත්රත්වප්රතිජ්ඤාං විජහදරිවරං ධාරයන් ක්රෝධශාලී-
වාධාවන් ප්රාංජලිං තං නතශිරසමථෝ වීක්ෂ්ය මෝදාදපාගාඃ ॥7॥

Meaning
භක්ත-උත්තංසේ-අථ භීෂ්මේ - ; තව ධරණි-භර-ක්ෂේප- - the leading devotee, then, Bheeshma; කෘත්යේ-ඒක-සක්තේ - Thy (purpose of) the earth's burden reducing; නිත්යං නිත්යං විභිංදති- - in fulfilling alone engaged; අයුත-සම-අධිකං - everyday destroying; ප්රාප්ත-සාදේ ච පාර්ථේ - ten thousand about or more; නිශ්ශස්ත්රත්ව-ප්රතිජ්ඤාං - and coming to exhaustion of Arjuna,; විජහත්-අරිවරං - not taking up arms, the vow; ධාරයන් ක්රෝධශාලී- - discarding, the great discus; ඉව-අධාවන් - holding, in anger; ප්රාංජලිං තං - as if running; නතශිරසම්-අථ - with joined hands him; වීක්ෂ්ය මෝදාත්-අපාගාඃ - (and) bowed head then;

Translation
Bhishma, one of the leading devotees was intent on helping in fulfilling Thy purpose of reducing the burden of the earth, and was killing almost 10,000 warriors everyday. Arjuna had become very exhausted in resisting Bheeshma. Forgetting Thy vow of not taking up arms in the war, Thou rushed towards Bheeshma with Thy great discus in hand as though in great anger. Bheeshma stood with folded hands and bent down his head as Thou approached him. Seeing him thus Thou were full of joy and desisted from attacking him.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
යුද්ධේ ද්රෝණස්ය හස්තිස්ථිරරණභගදත්තේරිතං වෛෂ්ණවාස්ත්රං
වක්ෂස්යාධත්ත චක්රස්ථගිතරවිමහාඃ ප්රාර්දයත්සිංධුරාජම් ।
නාගාස්ත්රේ කර්ණමුක්තේ ක්ෂිතිමවනමයන් කේවලං කෘත්තමෞලිං
තත්රේ ත්රාපි පාර්ථං කිමිව නහි භවාන් පාංඩවානාමකාර්ෂීත් ॥8॥

Meaning
යුද්ධේ ද්රෝණස්ය - ; හස්ති-ස්ථිර- - in the fight with Drona; රණ-භගදත්ත-ඊරිතං - on an elephant firmly seated; වෛෂ්ණව-අස්ත්රං - the fighting Bhagadatta discharged; වක්ෂසි-ආධත්ත - the Vaishnava (Naaraayana) missile; චක්ර-ස්ථගිත- - on (Thy) chest took; රවි-මහාඃ - in (Thy) Sudarshana discus hiding; ප්රාර්දයත්-සිංධුරාජං - the sun's rays; නාග-අස්ත්රේ කර්ණ-මුක්තේ - got killed Jayadratha; ක්ෂිතිම්-අවනමයන් - the Naaga missile discharged by Karna; කේවලං කෘත්ත-මෞලිං - the earth, by lowering it down; තත්රේ තත්ර-අපි පාර්ථං - only was cut off the crown; කිම්-ඉව නහි භවාන් - saved there also was Arjuna; පාංඩවානාම්-අකාර්ෂීත් - what all did not Thou;

Translation
When the fight with Drona was going on Bhagadatta who was firmly seated on an elephant discharged the Vaishnava missile which Thou attracted towards Thy own chest and saved Arjuna. Arjuna was able to kill Jayadratha when Thy Sudarshana discus hid the rays of the sun. Again when Karna discharged the Naaga missile towards Arjuna, Thou lowered the earth by the pressure of Thy toe, so that only Arjun's crown got cut off and Arjuna was saved here also. What all did Thou not do for the benefit of the Paandavas.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
යුද්ධාදෞ තීර්ථගාමී ස ඛලු හලධරෝ නෛමිශක්ෂේත්රමෘච්ඡ-
න්නප්රත්යුත්ථායිසූතක්ෂයකෘදථ සුතං තත්පදේ කල්පයිත්වා ।
යජ්ඤඝ්නං වල්කලං පර්වණි පරිදලයන් ස්නාතතීර්ථෝ රණාංතේ
සංප්රාප්තෝ භීමදුර්යෝධනරණමශමං වීක්ෂ්ය යාතඃ පුරීං තේ ॥9॥

Meaning
යුද්ධ-ආදෞ තීර්ථ-ගාමී - ; ස ඛලු හලධරඃ - at the beginning of the battle, going for pilgrimage; නෛමිශ-ක්ෂේත්රම්-ඍච්ඡන්- - that indeed Balaraama; අප්රත්යුත්ථායි-සූත- - the Naimishyaaranya area covering; ක්ෂය-කෘත්-අථ - who had not stood up in respect, that Suta; සුතං තත්-පදේ - killing then; කල්පයිත්වා - his son on his seat; යජ්ඤඝ්නං වල්කලං - installing; පර්වණි පරිදලයන් - the destroyer of the Yangyas, Valkala (an Asura); ස්නාත-තීර්ථඃ - during the full moon and new moon days, killing; රණ-අංතේ සංප්රාප්තඃ - completing the pilgrimage; භීම-දුර්යෝධන-රණම්- - towards the end of the war returning; අශමං වීක්ෂ්ය යාතඃ - the Bheema and Duryodhana fight; පුරීං තේ - prolonged, seeing went away;

Translation
Just when the war was to begin Balaraama had gone away on a pilgrimage. He first covered the holy area of Naimishaaranya. Then he killed Suta for not having got up to honour him and installed his son in his place. Then he destroyed the Asura Valkala, who used to destroy the Yagnyas carried out on the full moon and new moon days. Completing his pilgrimage he returned to Kurukshetra. There when he saw the prolonged fight between Bheema and Duryodhana, he went away to Thy city of Dwaarika.

සංසුප්තද්රෞපදේයක්ෂපණහතධියං ද්රෞණිමේත්ය ත්වදුක්ත්යා
තන්මුක්තං බ්රාහ්මමස්ත්රං සමහෘත විජයෝ මෞලිරත්නං ච ජහ්රේ ।
උච්ඡිත්යෛ පාංඩවානාං පුනරපි ච විශත්යුත්තරාගර්භමස්ත්රේ
රක්ෂන්නංගුෂ්ඨමාත්රඃ කිල ජඨරමගාශ්චක්රපාණිර්විභෝ ත්වම් ॥10॥

Meaning
සංසුප්ත-ද්රෞපදේය - ; ක්ෂපණ-හත-ධියං - deep in sleep, the sons of Draupadi; ද්රෞණිම්-ඒත්ය - having killed, the evil minded; ත්වත්-උක්ත්යා - Drona's son (Ashwatthaamaa) approaching; තත්-මුක්තං බ්රාහ්මම්-අස්ත්රං - by Thy saying; සමහෘත විජයඃ - discharged by him the Brahamaastra; මෞලිරත්නං ච ජහ්රේ - retracted Arjuna; උච්ඡිතෛ පාංඩවානාං - and clipped off his crest jewel; පුන;-අපි ච - to cut off the line of Paandavas; විශති-උත්තරා-ගර්භම්- - and again also; අස්ත්රේ රක්ෂන්- - entering Uttaaraa's womb; අංගුෂ්ඨ-මාත්රඃ කිල - by the weapon protecting; ජඨරම්-අගාඃ- - thumb sized merely indeed; චක්රපාණිඃ-විභෝ ත්වම් - in her womb Thou went;

Translation
Drona's son, the evil minded Ashwatthaamaa had killed the sons of Draupadi when they were fast asleep. On Thy command Arjuna approached him and retracted the Brahmaastra discharged by him and clipped off his crest jewel.To cut off the line of the Paandavas, Ashwatthaamaa again sent the weapon into Uttara's womb to kill the foetus in there. To protect the foetus Thou entered her womb in the size of a thumb with Thy Sudarshana discus in hand.

ශ්ලෝකඃ
ධර්මෞඝං ධර්මසූනෝරභිදධදඛිලං ඡංදමෘත්යුස්ස භීෂ්ම-
ස්ත්වාං පශ්යන් භක්තිභූම්නෛව හි සපදි යයෞ නිෂ්කලබ්රහ්මභූයම් ।
සංයාජ්යාථාශ්වමේධෛස්ත්රිභිරතිමහිතෛර්ධර්මජං පූර්ණකාමං
සංප්රාප්තෝ ද්වරකාං ත්වං පවනපුරපතේ පාහි මාං සර්වරෝගාත් ॥11॥

Meaning
ධර්මෞඝං ධර්මසූනෝඃ- - ; අභිදධත්-අඛිලං - the great Dharmas to Yudhishthira; ඡංද-මෘත්යුඃ-ස භීෂ්මඃ- - teaching in totality; ත්වාං පශ්යන් - moment of death, who could decide, he BheeShma; භක්ති-භූම්නා-ඒව හි - Thee seeing; සපදි යයෞ - by the devotional intensity alone; නිෂ්කල-බ්රහ්ම-භූයම් - soon attained to indivisible Brahma state; සංයාජ්ය-අථ- - accomplishing then; අශ්ව-මේධෛඃ-ත්රිභිඃ- - Ashwamedha three; අති-මහිතෛඃ- - very great Yangysa; ධර්මජං පූර්ණකාමං - Yudhishthira was fulfilled of aspirations; සංප්රාප්තඃ ද්වාරකාං ත්වං - returned to Dwaarikaa Thou; පවනපුරපතේ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; පාහි මාං සර්වරෝගාත් - save me from all diseases;

Translation
The entire great Dharmas were taught to Yudhishthira by Bheeshma who could decide the moment of his death. On seeing Thee, by his devotional intensity alone he attained the indivisible state of Brahman. Thou enabled Yudhishthira to perform three great Ashwamedha Yangyas by which all his aspirations were fulfilled. Then Thou returned to Dwaarikaa. O Lord of Guruvaayur! save me from all diseases.
