ශ්රීභගවානුවාච
භූය ඒව මහාබාහෝ ශ‍ඍණු මේ පරමං වචඃ ।
යත්තේऽහං ප්රීයමාණාය වක්ෂ්යාමි හිතකාම්යයා ॥ 1 ॥
Meaning
ශ්රී-භගවාන් උවාච — Bhagavan Sri Krishna said; භූයඃ — again; ඒව — certainly; මහා-බාහෝ — O mighty-armed; ශෘණු — just hear; මේ — My; පරමම් — supreme; වචඃ — instruction; යත් — that which; තේ — to you; අහම් — I; ප්රීයමාණාය — thinking you dear to Me; වක්ෂ්යාමි — say; හිත-කාම්යයා — for your benefit.
Translation
Bhagavan Sri Krishna said: Listen again, O mighty-armed Arjuna. Because you are My dear friend, for your benefit I shall speak to you further, giving knowledge that is better than what I have already explained.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
න මේ විදුඃ සුරගණාඃ ප්රභවං න මහර්ෂයඃ ।
අහමාදිර්හි දේවානාං මහර්ෂීණාං ච සර්වශඃ ॥ 2 ॥
Meaning

Translation
Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin or opulences, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and sages.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
යෝ මාමජමනාදිං ච වේත්ති ලෝකමහේශ්වරම් ।
අසම්මූඪඃ ස මර්ත්යේෂු සර්වපාපෛඃ ප්රමුච්යතේ ॥ 3 ॥
Meaning
යඃ — anyone who; මාම් — Me; අජම් — unborn; අනාදිම් — without beginning; ච — also; වේත්ති — knows; ලෝක — of the planets; මහා-ඊශ්වරම් — the supreme master; අසම්මූඪඃ — undeluded; සඃ — he; මර්ත්යේෂු — among those subject to death; සර්ව-පාපෛඃ — from all sinful reactions; ප්රමුච්යතේ — is delivered.
Translation
He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginningless, as the Supreme Lord of all the worlds – he only, undeluded among men, is freed from all sins.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
බුද්ධිර්ජ්ඤානමසම්මෝහඃ ක්ෂමා සත්යං දමඃ ශමඃ ।
සුඛං දුඃඛං භවෝऽභාවෝ භයං චාභයමේව ච ॥ 4 ॥
අහිංසා සමතා තුෂ්ටිස්තපෝ දානං යශෝऽයශඃ ।
භවංති භාවා භූතානාං මත්ත ඒව පෘථග්විධාඃ ॥ 5 ॥

Translation
Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from doubt and delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, control of the senses, control of the mind, happiness and distress, birth, death, fear, fearlessness, nonviolence, equanimity, satisfaction, austerity, charity, fame and infamy – all these various qualities of living beings are created by Me alone.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
මහර්ෂයඃ සප්ත පූර්වේ චත්වාරෝ මනවස්තථා ।
මද්භ‍ආවා මානසා ජාතා යේෂාං ලෝක ඉමාඃ ප්රජාඃ ॥ 6 ॥
Meaning
මහා-ඍෂයඃ — the great sages; සප්ත — seven; පූර්වේ — before; චත්වාරඃ — four; මනවඃ — Manus; තථා — also; මත්-භාවාඃ — born of Me; මානසාඃ — from the mind; ජාතාඃ — born; යේෂාම් — of them; ලෝකේ — in the world; ඉමාඃ — all this; ප්රජාඃ — population.
Translation
The seven great sages and before them the four other great sages and the Manus [progenitors of mankind] come from Me, born from My mind, and all the living beings populating the various planets descend from them.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ඒතාං විභූතිං යෝගං ච මම යෝ වේත්ති තත්ත්වතඃ ।
සෝऽවිකල්පේන යෝගේන යුජ්යතේ නාත්ර සංශයඃ ॥ 7 ॥
Meaning

Translation
One who is factually convinced of this opulence and mystic power of Mine engages in unalloyed devotional service; of this there is no doubt.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අහං සර්වස්ය ප්රභවෝ මත්තඃ සර්වං ප්රවර්තතේ ।
ඉති මත්වා භජංතේ මාං බුධා භාවසමන්විතාඃ ॥ 8 ॥
Meaning
අහම් — I; සර්වස්ය — of all; ප්රභවඃ — the source of generation; මත්තඃ — from Me; සර්වම් — everything; ප්රවර්තතේ — emanates; ඉති — thus; මත්වා — knowing; භජංතේ — become devoted; මාම් — unto Me; බුධාඃ — the learned; භාව-සමන්විතාඃ — with great attention.
Translation
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.

මච්චිත්තා මද්ග‍තප්රාණා බෝධයංතඃ පරස්පරම් ।
කථයංතශ්ච මාං නිත්යං තුෂ්යංති ච රමංති ච ॥ 9 ॥
Meaning
මත්-චිත්තාඃ — their minds fully engaged in Me; මත්-ගත-ප්රාණාඃ — their lives devoted to Me; බෝධයංතඃ — preaching; පරස්පරම් — among themselves; කථයංතඃ — talking; ච — also; මාම් — about Me; නිත්යම් — perpetually; තුෂ්යංති — become pleased; ච — also; රමංති — enjoy transcendental bliss; ච — also.
Translation
The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
තේෂාං සතතයුක්තානාං භජතාං ප්රීතිපූර්වකම් ।
දදාමි බුද්ධියෝගං තං යේන මාමුපයාංති තේ ॥ 10 ॥
Meaning
තේෂාම් — unto them; සතත-යුක්තානාම් — always engaged; භජතාම් — in rendering devotional service; ප්රීති-පූර්වකම් — in loving ecstasy; දදාමි — I give; බුද්ධි-යෝගම් — real intelligence; තම් — that; යේන — by which; මාම් — unto Me; උපයාංති — come; තේ — they.
Translation
To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
තේෂාමේවානුකංපාර්ථමහමජ්ඤානජං තමඃ ।
නාශයාම්යාත්මභාවස්ථෝ ජ්ඤානදීපේන භාස්වතා ॥ 11 ॥
Meaning
තේෂාම් — for them; ඒව — certainly; අනුකංපා-අර්ථම් — to show special mercy; අහම් — I; අජ්ඤාන-ජම් — due to ignorance; තමඃ — darkness; නාශයාමි — dispel; ආත්ම-භාව — within their hearts; ස්ථඃ — situated; ජ්ඤාන — of knowledge; දීපේන — with the lamp; භාස්වතා — glowing.
Translation
To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.

Translation
Arjuna said: You are the ultimate abode, the purest, the Absolute Truth. You are the eternal, transcendental, original person, the unborn, the greatest. All the great sages such as Nārada, Asita, Devala and Vyāsa confirm this truth about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
සර්වමේතදෘතං මන්යේ යන්මාං වදසි කේශව ।
න හි තේ භගවන්ව්යක්තිං විදුර්දේවා න දානවාඃ ॥ 14 ॥
Meaning

Translation
O Kriṣṇa, I totally accept as truth all that You have told me. Neither the demigods nor the demons, O Lord, can understand Your personality.

ස්වයමේවාත්මනාත්මානං වේත්ථ ත්වං පුරුෂෝත්තම ।
භූතභාවන භූතේශ දේවදේව ජගත්පතේ ॥ 15 ॥
Meaning

වක්තුමර්හස්යශේෂේණ දිව්යා හ්යාත්මවිභූතයඃ ।
යාභිර්විභූතිභිර්ලෝකානිමාංස්ත්වං ව්යාප්ය තිෂ්ඨසි ॥ 16 ॥

කේෂු කේෂු ච භාවේෂු චිංත්යෝऽසි භගවන්මයා ॥ 17 ॥

භූයඃ කථය තෘප්‍තිර්හි ශ‍ඍණ්වතෝ නාස්ති මේऽමෘතම් ॥ 18 ॥

Of priests, O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Brihaspati. Of generals I am Kārttikeya, and of bodies of water I am the ocean.

මහර්ෂීණාං භෘගුරහං ගිරාමස්ම්යේකමක්ෂරම් ।
යජ්ඤානාං ජපයජ්ඤෝऽස්මි ස්ථාවරාණාං හිමාලයඃ ॥ 25 ॥

Of the great sages I am Bhrigu; of vibrations I am the transcendental oM. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa], and of immovable things I am the Himālayas.

අශ්වත්ථඃ සර්වවෘක්ෂාණාං දේවර්ෂීණාං ච නාරදඃ ।
ගංධර්වාණාං චිත්රරථඃ සිද්ධානාං කපිලෝ මුනිඃ ॥ 26 ॥
Meaning
අශ්වත්ථඃ — the banyan tree; සර්ව-වෘක්ෂාණාම් — of all trees; දේව-ඍෂීණාම් — of all the sages amongst the demigods; ච — and; නාරදඃ — Nārada; ගංධර්වාණාම් — of the citizens of the Gandharva planet; චිත්රරථඃ — Citraratha; සිද්ධානාම් — of all those who are perfected; කපිලඃ මුනිඃ — Kapila Muni.
Translation
Of all trees I am the banyan tree, and of the sages among the demigods I am Nārada. Of the Gandharvas I am Citraratha, and among perfected beings I am the sage Kapila.

උච්‍චෛඃශ්රවසමශ්වානාං විද්ධි මාමමෘතෝද්භ‍වම් ।
ඓරාවතං ගජේංද්රාණාං නරාණාං ච නරාධිපම් ॥ 27 ॥

උච්චෛඃශ්රවසම් — Uccaiḥśravā; අශ්වානාම් — among horses; විද්ධි — know; මාම් — Me; අමෘත-උද්භවම් — produced from the churning of the ocean; ඓරාවතම් — Airāvata; ගජ-ඉංද්රාණාම් — of lordly elephants; නරාණාම් — among human beings; ච — and; නර-අධිපම් — the king.
Translation
Of horses know Me to be Uccaiḥśravā, produced during the churning of the ocean for nectar. Of lordly elephants I am Airāvata, and among men I am the monarch.

ආයුධානාමහං වජ්රං ධේනූනාමස්මි කාමධුක් ।
ප්රජනශ්චාස්මි කංදර්පඃ සර්පාණාමස්මි වාසුකිඃ ॥ 28 ॥

Of the many-hooded Nāgas I am Ananta, and among the aquatics I am the demigod Varuṇa. Of departed ancestors I am Aryamā, and among the dispensers of law I am Yama, the lord of death.

Among the Daitya demons I am the devoted Prahlāda, among subduers I am time, among beasts I am the lion, and among birds I am Garuḍa.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
පවනඃ පවතාමස්මි රාමඃ ශස්ත්රභෘතාමහම් ।
ඣෂාණාං මකරශ්චාස්මි ස්රෝතසාමස්මි ජාහ්නවී ॥ 31 ॥
Meaning
පවනඃ — the wind; පවතාම් — of all that purifies; අස්මි — I am; රාමඃ — Rāma; ශස්ත්ර-භෘතාම් — of the carriers of weapons; අහම් — I am; ඣෂාණාම් — of all fish; මකරඃ — the shark; ච — also; අස්මි — I am; ස්රෝතසාම් — of flowing rivers; අස්මි — I am; ජාහ්නවී — the river Ganges.
Translation
Of purifiers I am the wind, of the wielders of weapons I am Rāma, of fishes I am the shark, and of flowing rivers I am the Ganges.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
සර්ගාණාමාදිරංතශ්ච මධ්යං චෛවාහමර්ජුන ।
අධ්යාත්මවිද්යා විද්යානාං වාදඃ ප්රවදතාමහම් ॥ 32 ॥
Meaning
සර්ගාණාම් — of all creations; ආදිඃ — the beginning; අංතඃ — end; ච — and; මධ්යම් — middle; ච — also; ඒව — certainly; අහම් — I am; අර්ජුන — O Arjuna; අධ්යාත්ම-විද්යා — spiritual knowledge; විද්යානාම් — of all education; වාදඃ — the natural conclusion; ප්රවදතාම් — of arguments; අහම් — I am.
Translation
Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the self, and among logicians I am the conclusive truth.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අක්ෂරාණාමකාරෝऽස්මි ද්වංද්වඃ සාමාසිකස්ය ච ।
අහමේවාක්ෂයඃ කාලෝ ධාතාහං විශ්වතෝමුඛඃ ॥ 33 ॥
Meaning
අක්ෂරාණාම් — of letters; අ-කාරඃ — the first letter; අස්මි — I am; ද්වංද්වඃ — the dual; සාමාසිකස්ය — of compounds; ච — and; අහම් — I am; ඒව — certainly; අක්ෂයඃ — eternal; කාලඃ — time; ධාතා — the creator; අහම් — I am; විශ්වතඃ-මුඛඃ — Brahmā.
Translation
Of letters I am the letter A, and among compound words I am the dual compound. I am also inexhaustible time, and of creators I am Brahmā.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
මෘත්යුඃ සර්වහරශ්චාහමුද්භ‍වශ්ච භවිෂ්යතාම් ।
කීර්තිඃ ශ්රීර්වාක්‍ච නාරීණාං ස්මෘතිර්මේධා ධෘතිඃ ක්ෂමා ॥ 34 ॥
Meaning
මෘත්යුඃ — death; සර්ව-හරඃ — all-devouring; ච — also; අහම් — I am; උද්භවඃ — generation; ච — also; භවිෂ්යතාම් — of future manifestations; කීර්තිඃ — fame; ශ්රීඃ — opulence or beauty; වාක් — fine speech; ච — also; නාරීණාම් — of women; ස්මෘතිඃ — memory; මේධා — intelligence; ධෘතිඃ — firmness; ක්ෂමා — patience.
Translation
I am all-devouring death, and I am the generating principle of all that is yet to be. Among women I am fame, fortune, fine speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and patience.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
බෘහත්සාම තථා සාම්න‍ආං ගායත්රී ඡංදසාමහම් ।
මාසානාං මාර්ගශීර්ෂෝऽහමෘතූනාං කුසුමාකරඃ ॥ 35 ॥

බෘහත්-සාම — the Brihat-sāma; තථා — also; සාම්නාම් — of the Sāma Veda songs; ගායත්රී — the Gāyatrī hymns; චංදසාම් — of all poetry; අහම් — I am; මාසානාම් — of months; මාර්ග-ශීර්ෂඃ — the month of November-December; අහම් — I am; ඍතූනාම් — of all seasons; කුසුම-ආකරඃ — spring.
Translation
Of the hymns in the Sāma Veda I am the Brihat-sāma, and of poetry I am the Gāyatrī. Of months I am Mārgaśīrṣa [November-December], and of seasons I am flower-bearing spring.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ද්යූතං ඡලයතාමස්මි තේජස්තේජස්විනාමහම් ।
ජයෝऽස්මි ව්යවසායෝऽස්මි සත්ත්වං සත්ත්වවතාමහම් ॥ 36 ॥
Meaning
ද්යූතම් — gambling; චලයතාම් — of all cheats; අස්මි — I am; තේජඃ — the splendor; තේජස්විනාම් — of everything splendid; අහම් — I am; ජයඃ — victory; අස්මි — I am; ව්යවසායඃ — enterprise or adventure; අස්මි — I am; සත්ත්වම් — the strength; සත්ත්ව-වතාම් — of the strong; අහම් — I am.
Translation
I am also the gambling of cheats, and of the splendid I am the splendor. I am victory, I am adventure, and I am the strength of the strong.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
වෘෂ්ණීනාං වාසුදේවෝऽස්මි පාංඩවානාං ධනංජයඃ ।
මුනීනාමප්යහං ව්යාසඃ කවීනාමුශනා කවිඃ ॥ 37 ॥
Meaning
වෘෂ්ණීනාම් — of the descendants of Vriṣṇi; වාසුදේවඃ — Kriṣṇa in Dvārakā; අස්මි — I am; පාංඩවානාම් — of the Pāṇḍavas; ධනම්-ජයඃ — Arjuna; මුනීනාම් — of the sages; අපි — also; අහම් — I am; ව්යාසඃ — Vyāsa, the compiler of all Vedic literature; කවීනාම් — of all great thinkers; උශනා — Uśanā; කවිඃ — the thinker.
Translation
Of the descendants of Vriṣṇi I am Vāsudeva, and of the Pāṇḍavas I am Arjuna. Of the sages I am Vyāsa, and among great thinkers I am Uśanā.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
දංඩෝ දමයතාමස්මි නීතිරස්මි ජිගීෂතාම් ।
මෞනං චෛවාස්මි ගුහ්යානාං ජ්ඤානං ජ්ඤානවතාමහම් ॥ 38 ॥
Meaning
දංඩඃ — punishment; දමයතාම් — of all means of suppression; අස්මි — I am; නීතිඃ — morality; අස්මි — I am; ජිගීෂතාම් — of those who seek victory; මෞනම් — silence; ච — and; ඒව — also; අස්මි — I am; ගුහ්යානාම් — of secrets; ජ්ඤානම් — knowledge; ජ්ඤාන-වතාම් — of the wise; අහම් — I am.
Translation
Among all means of suppressing lawlessness I am punishment, and of those who seek victory I am morality. Of secret things I am silence, and of the wise I am the wisdom.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
යච්ච‍ආපි සර්වභූතානාං බීජං තදහමර්ජුන ।
න තදස්ති විනා යත්ස්යාන්මයා භූතං චරාචරම් ॥ 39 ॥
Meaning
යත් — whatever; ච — also; අපි — may be; සර්ව-භූතානාම් — of all creations; බීජම් — seed; තත් — that; අහම් — I am; අර්ජුන — O Arjuna; න — not; තත් — that; අස්ති — there is; විනා — without; යත් — which; ස්යාත් — exists; මයා — Me; භූතම් — created being; චර-අචරම් — moving and nonmoving.
Translation
Furthermore, O Arjuna, I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being – moving or nonmoving – that can exist without Me.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
නාංතෝऽස්ති මම දිව්යානාං විභූතීනාං පරංතප ।
ඒෂ තූද්දේශතඃ ප්රෝක්තෝ විභූතේර්විස්තරෝ මයා ॥ 40 ॥
Meaning
න — nor; අංතඃ — a limit; අස්ති — there is; මම — My; දිව්යානාම් — of the divine; විභූතීනාම් — opulences; පරම්-තප — O conqueror of the enemies; ඒෂඃ — all this; තු — but; උද්දේශතඃ — as examples; ප්රෝක්තඃ — spoken; විභූතේඃ — of opulences; විස්තරඃ — the expanse; මයා — by Me.
Translation
O mighty conqueror of enemies, there is no end to My divine manifestations. What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of My infinite opulences.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
යද්යද්විභූතිමත්සත්ත්වං ශ්රීමදූර්ජිතමේව වා ।
තත්තදේවාවගච්ඡ ත්වං මම තේජෝऽශසංභවම් ॥ 41 ॥
Meaning
යත් යත් — whatever; විභූති — opulences; මත් — having; සත්ත්වම් — existence; ශ්රී-මත් — beautiful; ඌර්ජිතම් — glorious; ඒව — certainly; වා — or; තත් තත් — all those; ඒව — certainly; අවගච්ච — must know; ත්වම් — you; මම — My; තේජඃ — of the splendor; අංශ — a part; සංභවම් — born of.
Translation
Know that all opulent, beautiful and glorious creations spring from but a spark of My splendor.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අථවා බහුනෛතේන කිං ජ්ඤාතේන තවාර්ජුන ।
විෂ්ටභ්යාහමිදං කෘත්ස්නමේකාංශේන ස්ථිතෝ ජගත් ॥ 42 ॥
Meaning
අථ වා — or; බහුනා — many; ඒතේන — by this kind; කිම් — what; ජ්ඤාතේන — by knowing; තව — your; අර්ජුන — O Arjuna; විෂ්ටභ්ය — pervading; අහම් — I; ඉදම් — this; කෘත්ස්නම් — entire; ඒක — by one; අංශේන — part; ස්ථිතඃ — am situated; ජගත් — universe.
Translation
But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.
