ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਗੀਰ੍ਵਾਣੈਰਰ੍ਥ੍ਯਮਾਨੋ ਦਸ਼ਮੁਖਨਿਧਨਂ ਕੋਸਲੇਸ਼੍ਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਯਸ਼੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਗੇ
ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀਯਾਮਿਸ਼੍ਟਿਮਿਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ ਦਦੁਸ਼ਿ ਦਸ਼ਰਥਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਮਾਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤੇ ਪਾਯਸਾਗ੍ਰ੍ਯਮ੍ ।
ਤਦ੍ਭੁਕ੍ਤ੍ਯਾ ਤਤ੍ਪੁਰਂਧ੍ਰੀਸ਼੍ਵਪਿ ਤਿਸ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ੁ ਸਮਂ ਜਾਤਗਰ੍ਭਾਸੁ ਜਾਤੋ
ਰਾਮਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਂ ਲਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਮਣੇਨ ਸ੍ਵਯਮਥ ਭਰਤੇਨਾਪਿ ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰੁਘ੍ਨਨਾਮ੍ਨਾ ॥1॥

Meaning
ਗੀਰ੍ਵਾਣੈਃ-ਅਰ੍ਥ੍ਯਮਾਨਃ - by the Devas, (Thou) who were prayed to; ਦਸ਼ਮੁਖ-ਨਿਧਨਂ - for the destruction of Raavana; ਕੋਸਲੇਸ਼ੁ-ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਯਸ਼੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਗੇ - in (the land of) Kosala, (when) sage Rishyashring; ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀਯਾਮ੍-ਇਸ਼੍ਟਿਮ੍-ਇਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ - the Putrakaameshti Yanjya had performed; ਦਦੁਸ਼ਿ ਦਸ਼ਰਥ-ਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਮਾਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤੇ - (he) gave to king Dashratha; ਪਾਯਸ-ਅਗ੍ਰ੍ਯਮ੍ - the divine Paayasa (pudding); ਤਤ੍-ਭੁਕ੍ਤ੍ਯਾ - by eating which; ਤਤ੍-ਪੁਰਂਧ੍ਰੀਸ਼ੁ-ਅਪਿ ਤਿਸ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ੁ - his three wives; ਸਮਂ ਜਾਤਗਰ੍ਭਾਸੁ - simultaneously conceived; ਜਾਤਃ ਰਾਮਃ-ਤ੍ਵਂ - (then) Thou were born as Raama; ਲਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਮਣੇਨ ਸ੍ਵਯਮ੍-ਅਥ - then yourself as Lakshmana; ਭਰਤੇਨ-ਅਪਿ - also as Bharat; ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰੁਘ੍ਨ-ਨਾਮ੍ਨਾ - (and) Shatrughna, by names;

Translation
The Devas prayed to Thee for the destruction of Raavana. In the kingdom of Kosala, the sage Rishyashringa performed the Putrakaameshti Ynjya on the request of the King Dashratha. From the Yanajya emerged the divine paayasa which the king distributed among his three wives, by eating it they conceived simultaneously. Thou were born to them as Raama, then yourself as Lakshmana ,also as Bharat, and Shatrughna, by these names.

ਕੋਦਂਡੀ ਕੌਸ਼ਿਕਸ੍ਯ ਕ੍ਰਤੁਵਰਮਵਿਤੁਂ ਲਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਮਣੇਨਾਨੁਯਾਤੋ
ਯਾਤੋ਽ਭੂਸ੍ਤਾਤਵਾਚਾ ਮੁਨਿਕਥਿਤਮਨੁਦ੍ਵਂਦ੍ਵਸ਼ਾਂਤਾਧ੍ਵਖੇਦਃ ।
ਨ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਣਾਂ ਤ੍ਰਾਣਾਯ ਬਾਣੈਰ੍ਮੁਨਿਵਚਨਬਲਾਤ੍ਤਾਟਕਾਂ ਪਾਟਯਿਤ੍ਵਾ
ਲਬ੍ਧ੍ਵਾਸ੍ਮਾਦਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਜਾਲਂ ਮੁਨਿਵਨਮਗਮੋ ਦੇਵ ਸਿਦ੍ਧਾਸ਼੍ਰਮਾਖ੍ਯਮ੍ ॥2॥

Meaning
ਕੋਦਂਡੀ - carrying the bow Kodanda; ਕੌਸ਼ਿਕਸ੍ਯ ਕ੍ਰਤੁਵਰਮ੍-ਅਵਿਤੁਂ - Vishwaamitra's great sacrifice to protect; ਲਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਮਣੇਨ-ਅਨੁਯਾਤਃ - followed by Lakshmana; ਯਾਤਃ-ਅਭੂਃ-ਤਾਤ-ਵਾਚਾ - (Thou) proceeded at the bidding of (Thy) father; ਮੁਨਿ-ਕਥਿਤ-ਮਨੁ-ਦ੍ਵਂਦ੍ਵ- - instructed by the muni, the two Mantras (Bala & Atibala); ਸ਼ਾਂਤ-ਅਧ੍ਵ-ਖੇਦਃ - to remove the fatigue of the way; ਨ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਣਾਂ ਤ੍ਰਾਣਾਯ ਬਾਣੈਃ- - for the protection of the people, with arrows; ਮੁਨਿ-ਵਚਨ-ਬਲਾਤ੍- - by the order of the muni; ਤਾਟਕਾਂ ਪਾਟਯਿਤ੍ਵਾ - slayed Taatakaa; ਲਬ੍ਧ੍ਵਾ-ਅਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍- - received from him (the sage); ਅਸ੍ਤ੍ਰ-ਜਾਲਂ - instructions into the use of several divine missiles; ਮੁਨਿ-ਵਨਮ੍-ਅਗਮਃ - with the sage went to the forest; ਦੇਵ - Thou O Lord!; ਸਿਦ੍ਧਾਸ਼੍ਰਮ-ਆਖ੍ਯਮ੍ - to the hermitage known as Sidhaashrama;

Translation
At the bidding of Thy father, followed by Lakshmana, Thou proceeded to protect the great sacrifice of Vishwaamitra, carrying the bow Kodanda. To remove the fatigue of the way, the sage imparted two Mantraas -Bala and Atibala. By the order of the sage, for the relief of the men, Thou destroyed the demoness Taadakaa, with arrows. After receiving from the sage instructions in the use of several divine missiles, Thou went to the forest with the sage and then to the hermitage named Siddhaashrama.

ਭਿਂਦਾਨਸ਼੍ਚਾਂਦ੍ਰਚੂਡਂ ਧਨੁਰਵਨਿਸੁਤਾਮਿਂਦਿਰਾਮੇਵ ਲਬ੍ਧ੍ਵਾ
ਰਾਜ੍ਯਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਤਿਸ਼੍ਠਥਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਿਰਪਿ ਚ ਸਮਂ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਵੀਰੈਸ੍ਸਦਾਰੈਃ ॥3॥

Meaning
ਮਾਰੀਚਂ ਦ੍ਰਾਵਯਿਤ੍ਵਾ - chasing away Maareecha; ਮਖ-ਸ਼ਿਰਸਿ ਸ਼ਰੈਃ- - at the beginning of the sacrificial rites, by arrows; ਅਨ੍ਯ-ਰਕ੍ਸ਼ਾਂਸਿ ਨਿਘ੍ਨਨ੍ - killed the other Raakhsasa; ਕਲ੍ਯਾਂ ਕੁਰ੍ਵਨ੍-ਅਹਲ੍ਯਾਂ - and purified Ahilyaa of her sins; ਪਥਿ ਪਦਰਜਸਾ - on the way by the dust of Thy feet; ਪ੍ਰਾਪ੍ਯ ਵੈਦੇਹ-ਗੇਹਮ੍ - reaching Janaka's palace; ਭਿਂਦਾਨਃ-ਚਾਂਦ੍ਰਚੂਡਂ ਧਨੁਃ- - (and) breaking the bow of Shiva; ਅਵਨਿ-ਸੁਤਾਮ੍- - the daughter of the Earth (Seetaa); ਇਂਦਿਰਾਮ੍-ਏਵ ਲਬ੍ਧ੍ਵਾ - (Who) was Lakshmi herself having won; ਰਾਜ੍ਯਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਤਿਸ਼੍ਠਥਾਃ-ਤ੍ਵਂ - Thou set out for Thy kingdom; ਤ੍ਰਿਭਿਃ-ਅਪਿ ਚ ਸਮਂ - along with the three; ਭ੍ਰਾਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਵੀਰੈਃ-ਸਦਾਰੈਃ - great brothers and their wives;

Translation
At the beginning of the sacrificial rites, Thou chased Maareecha and with arrows killed the other Raakshasas. On the way Thou purified Ahilyaa of her sins by the dust of Thy feet. On reaching Janaka's palace and breaking the bow of Shiva, Thou won Seetaa, the daughter of the earth, as Thy consort, who was Lakshmi herself. Along with the three great brothers and their wives Thou set out for Thy kingdom.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਆਰੁਂਧਾਨੇ ਰੁਸ਼ਾਂਧੇ ਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਗੁਕੁਲ ਤਿਲਕੇ ਸਂਕ੍ਰਮਯ੍ਯ ਸ੍ਵਤੇਜੋ
ਯਾਤੇ ਯਾਤੋ਽ਸ੍ਯਯੋਧ੍ਯਾਂ ਸੁਖਮਿਹ ਨਿਵਸਨ੍ ਕਾਂਤਯਾ ਕਾਂਤਮੂਰ੍ਤੇ ।
ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰੁਘ੍ਨੇਨੈਕਦਾਥੋ ਗਤਵਤਿ ਭਰਤੇ ਮਾਤੁਲਸ੍ਯਾਧਿਵਾਸਂ
ਤਾਤਾਰਬ੍ਧੋ਽ਭਿਸ਼ੇਕਸ੍ਤਵ ਕਿਲ ਵਿਹਤਃ ਕੇਕਯਾਧੀਸ਼ਪੁਤ੍ਰ੍ਯਾ ॥4॥

Meaning
ਆਰੁਂਧਾਨੇ ਰੁਸ਼ਾਂਧੇ - Thou were confronted, blinded by rage; ਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਗੁਕੁਲ ਤਿਲਕੇ - by the foremost of the Bhrigu clan, Parashuraama; ਸਂਕ੍ਰਮਯ੍ਯ ਸ੍ਵਤੇਜਃ ਯਾਤੇ - (in the end) transmitted all his powers to Thee and went away; ਯਾਤਃ-ਅਸਿ-ਅਯੋਧ੍ਯਾਂ - Thou went to Ayodhyaa; ਸੁਖਮ੍-ਇਹ ਨਿਵਸਨ੍ ਕਾਂਤਯਾ - where Thou lived happily with Thy wife Seetaa; ਕਾਂਤਮੂਰ੍ਤੇ - O Radiant Lord!; ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰੁਘ੍ਨੇਨ-ਏਕਦਾ-ਅਥਃ - then one day with Shatrughna; ਗਤਵਤਿ ਭਰਤੇ - when Bharat had gone; ਮਾਤੁਲਸ੍ਯ-ਅਧਿਵਾਸਂ - to his uncle's kingdom; ਤਾਤ-ਆਰਬ੍ਧਃ- - started by Thy father; ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕਃ-ਤਵ ਕਿਲ ਵਿਹਤਃ - Thy coronation was obstructed; ਕੇਕਯ-ਅਧੀਸ਼-ਪੁਤ੍ਰ੍ਯਾ - by the daughter of the king of Kekaya, (Kekayee);

Translation
O Radiant Lord! Parashuraama, the foremost of the Bhrigu clan, confronted Thee with great anger and was defeated. He then transmitted all his powers to Thee and went away. Thou went to Ayodhyaa and lived happily with Thy consort Seetaa. Then one day, when Bharat along with Shatrughna had gone to his uncle's kingdom,Thy father fixed Thy coronation which was obstructed by the daughter of the king Kekaya, i.e., Kekayee.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਤਾਤੋਕ੍ਤ੍ਯਾ ਯਾਤੁਕਾਮੋ ਵਨਮਨੁਜਵਧੂਸਂਯੁਤਸ਼੍ਚਾਪਧਾਰਃ
ਪੌਰਾਨਾਰੁਧ੍ਯ ਮਾਰ੍ਗੇ ਗੁਹਨਿਲਯਗਤਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਂ ਜਟਾਚੀਰਧਾਰੀ।
ਨਾਵਾ ਸਂਤੀਰ੍ਯ ਗਂਗਾਮਧਿਪਦਵਿ ਪੁਨਸ੍ਤਂ ਭਰਦ੍ਵਾਜਮਾਰਾ-
ਨ੍ਨਤ੍ਵਾ ਤਦ੍ਵਾਕ੍ਯਹੇਤੋਰਤਿਸੁਖਮਵਸਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ਰਕੂਟੇ ਗਿਰੀਂਦ੍ਰੇ ॥5॥

Meaning
ਤਾਤ-ਉਕ੍ਤ੍ਯਾ - to keep Thy father's words; ਯਾਤੁਕਾਮਃ ਵਨਮ੍- - desirous of going to the forest; ਅਨੁਜ-ਵਧੂ-ਸਂਯੁਤਃ- - accompanied by Thy younger brother and wife; ਚਾਪ-ਧਾਰਃ - bearing a bow; ਪੌਰਾਨ੍-ਆਰੁਧ੍ਯ ਮਾਰ੍ਗੇ - sending back the citizens on the way; ਗੁਹ-ਨਿਲਯ-ਗਤਃ-ਤ੍ਵਂ - Thou went to the residence of Guha; ਜਟਾ-ਚੀਰ-ਧਾਰੀ - wearing matted hair and bark cloth; ਨਾਵਾ ਸਂਤੀਰ੍ਯ ਗਂਗਾਮ੍- - crossing the Gangaa in a boat; ਅਧਿਪਦਵਿ ਪੁਨਃ-ਤਂ - on the way again, him; ਭਰਦ੍ਵਾਜਮ੍-ਆਰਾਤ੍-ਨਤ੍ਵਾ - to Bharadwaaj who lived near by offered obeisance; ਤਤ੍-ਵਾਕ੍ਯ-ਹੇਤੋਃ- - by his instructions; ਅਤਿ-ਸੁਖਮ੍-ਅਵਸਃ- - Thou lived very happily; ਚਿਤ੍ਰਕੂਟੇ ਗਿਰੀਂਦ੍ਰੇ - on the great mountain Chitrakoot;

Translation
To keep Thy father's words Thou proceeded to go to the forest accompanied by Thy consort Seetaa, and brother Lakshmana, armed with a bow. The crowd of citizens stricken with grief, who followed Thee, Thou sent back and on the way went to the residence of Guha. In an ascetic garb of bark cloth and matted hair Thou crossed the Gangaa in a boat and paid obeisance to sage Bharadwaaja who lived near by. On the sage's instruction Thou camped on the great mountain Chitrakoota and lived there very happily.

ਅਤ੍ਰਿਂ ਨਤ੍ਵਾ਽ਥ ਗਤ੍ਵਾ ਵਨਮਤਿਵਿਪੁਲਂ ਦਂਡਕਂ ਚਂਡਕਾਯਂ
ਹਤ੍ਵਾ ਦੈਤ੍ਯਂ ਵਿਰਾਧਂ ਸੁਗਤਿਮਕਲਯਸ਼੍ਚਾਰੁ ਭੋਃ ਸ਼ਾਰਭਂਗੀਮ੍ ॥6॥

Meaning
ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤ੍ਵਾ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ-ਆਰ੍ਤਿ-ਖਿਨ੍ਨਂ - on hearing (that) saddened by the pain (of separation)of the son; ਖਲੁ ਭਰਤ-ਮੁਖਾਤ੍ - indeed from Bharat's mouth; ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗ-ਯਾਤਂ ਸ੍ਵ-ਤਾਤਂ - about the death of Thy father; ਤਪ੍ਤਃ ਦਤ੍ਵਾ-ਅਂਬੁ ਤਸ੍ਮੈ - tormented, (Thou) performed Tarpana for him; ਨਿਦਧਿਥ ਭਰਤੇ - bestowed on Bharata; ਪਾਦੁਕਾਂ ਮੇਦਿਨੀਂ ਚ - (Thy) sandals and the kingdom; ਅਤ੍ਰਿਂ ਨਤ੍ਵਾ-ਅਥ - paying homage to sage Atri, then; ਗਤ੍ਵਾ ਵਨਮ੍- - went to the forest; ਅਤਿ-ਵਿਪੁਲਂ ਦਂਡਕਂ - Dandaka which was very vast; ਚਂਡਕਾਯਂ - the ferocious bodied; ਹਤ੍ਵਾ ਦੈਤ੍ਯਂ ਵਿਰਾਧਂ - Asura named Viraadha killing; ਸ੍ਗਤਿਮ੍-ਅਕਲਯਃ- - salvation bestowed; ਚਾਰੁ ਭੋਃ ਸ਼ਾਰਭਂਗੀਮ੍ - beautifully, O Thou! To (the sage) Shaarabhanga;

Translation
Hearing from Bharat about Thy father's demise on account of the pangs of separation from the son (Thee), Thou were tormented and performed Tarpana for him. Then Thou bestowed Thy sandals and the kingdom to Bharata and paid homage to sage Atri. Going into the dense vast forest Dandaka, Thou killed the ferocious bodied demon Viraadha, and Thou graciously gave salvation to sage Shaarabhangee.

ਨਤ੍ਵਾ਽ਗਸ੍ਤ੍ਯਂ ਸਮਸ੍ਤਾਸ਼ਰਨਿਕਰਸਪਤ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਿਂ ਤਾਪਸੇਭ੍ਯਃ
ਪ੍ਰਤ੍ਯਸ਼੍ਰੌਸ਼ੀਃ ਪ੍ਰਿਯੈਸ਼ੀ ਤਦਨੁ ਚ ਮੁਨਿਨਾ ਵੈਸ਼੍ਣਵੇ ਦਿਵ੍ਯਚਾਪੇ ।
ਬ੍ਰਹ੍ਮਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਰੇ ਚਾਪਿ ਦਤ੍ਤੇ ਪਥਿ ਪਿਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸੁਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਂ ਵੀਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ ਭੂਯੋ ਜਟਾਯੁਂ
ਮੋਦਾਤ੍ ਗੋਦਾਤਟਾਂਤੇ ਪਰਿਰਮਸਿ ਪੁਰਾ ਪਂਚਵਟ੍ਯਾਂ ਵਧੂਟ੍ਯਾ ॥7॥

Meaning
ਨਤ੍ਵਾ-ਅਗਸ੍ਤ੍ਯਂ - (after) paying obeisance to sage Agastya; ਸਮਸ੍ਤ-ਆਸ਼ਰ-ਨਿਕਰ-ਸਪਤ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਿਂ - the whole demon multitude will be killed to the core; ਤਾਪਸੇਭ੍ਯਃ ਪ੍ਰਤ੍ਯਸ਼੍ਰੌਸ਼ੀਃ - to the sages, promised; ਪ੍ਰਿਯੈਸ਼ੀ ਤਦਨੁ ਚ - (Thou) the well wisher, and after that; ਮੁਨਿਨਾ ਵੈਸ਼੍ਣਵੇ ਦਿਵ੍ਯ-ਚਾਪੇ - by the sage the divine Vaishnava bow; ਬ੍ਰਹ੍ਮਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਰੇ ਚ-ਅਪਿ - and also the Brahmaastra; ਦਤ੍ਤੇ ਪਥਿ - was given, on the way; ਪਿਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇ-ਸੁਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਂ ਵੀਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ - seeing Thy father's friend; ਭੂਯਃ ਜਟਾਯੁਂ ਮੋਦਾਤ੍ - again Jataayu happily; ਗੋਦਾ-ਤਟਾਂਤੇ - on the banks of Godaavari river; ਪਰਿਰਮਸਿ ਪੁਰਾ - Thou lived then; ਪਂਚਵਟ੍ਯਾਂ ਵਧੂਟ੍ਯਾ - in Panchvati with Thy consort;

Translation
After paying obeisance to sage Agastya, Thou the well wisher of the sages, promised to destroy the multitude of demons to the core. Then the sage gave Thee the divine Vaishnava bow and also the Brahmaastra. Thou also met Thy father's friend Jataayu and lived happily with Thy consort Seetaa in Panchawati on the banks of the river Godaavaree.

ਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਵੈਨਾਂ ਰੁਸ਼੍ਟਚਿਤ੍ਤਂ ਖਰਮਭਿਪਤਿਤਂ ਦੂਸ਼ਣਂ ਚ ਤ੍ਰਿਮੂਰ੍ਧਂ
ਵ੍ਯਾਹਿਂਸੀਰਾਸ਼ਰਾਨਪ੍ਯਯੁਤਸਮਧਿਕਾਂਸ੍ਤਤ੍ਕ੍ਸ਼ਣਾਦਕ੍ਸ਼ਤੋਸ਼੍ਮਾ ॥8॥

Meaning
ਪ੍ਰਾਪ੍ਤਾਯਾਃ ਸ਼ੂਰ੍ਪਣਖ੍ਯਾ - approached by Shoorpanakhaa; ਮਦਨ-ਚਲ-ਧ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤੇਃ- - (who was) overcome by passion; ਅਰ੍ਥਨੈਃ-ਨਿਸ੍ਸਹਾਤ੍ਮਾ - by (her) entreaties being annoyed; ਤਾਂ ਸੌਮਿਤ੍ਰੌ ਵਿਸ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਜ੍ਯ - sending her away to Lakshmana; ਪ੍ਰਬਲਤਮ-ਰੁਸ਼ਾ ਤੇਨ - by whom in great rage; ਨਿਰ੍ਲੂਨ-ਨਾਸਾਮ੍ - (her) nose was cut off; ਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ-ਐਨਾਂ ਰੁਸ਼੍ਟ-ਚਿਤ੍ਤਂ - seeing her (thus) in great anger; ਖਰਮ੍-ਅਭਿਪਤਿਤਂ - Khar attacked (Thee); ਦੂਸ਼ਣਂ ਚ ਤ੍ਰਿਮੂਰ੍ਧਂ - Dooshana and Trishiraa; ਵ੍ਯਾਹਿਂਸੀਃ-ਆਸ਼ਰਾਨ੍-ਅਪਿ- - (Thou) destroyed (them) and other Raakshasas also; ਅਯੁਤਸਮ-ਅਧਿਕਾਨ੍- - who were more than ten thousand; ਤਤ੍-ਕ੍ਸ਼ਣਾਤ੍- - then and there; ਅਕ੍ਸ਼ਤ-ਊਸ਼੍ਮਾ - Thou! Whose powers know no decline;

Translation
Shoorpanakhaa approached Thee overcome with passion. Annoyed by her love lorn advances, Thou sent her away to Lakshmana who in great rage cut off her nose. Khar Dooshana and Trishira seeing her state came to attack Thee in great anger. O Thou! Whose powers know no decline, Thou killed them and other more than ten thousand Raakshasas all at once then and there.

ਸੋਦਰ੍ਯਾਪ੍ਰੋਕ੍ਤਵਾਰ੍ਤਾਵਿਵਸ਼ਦਸ਼ਮੁਖਾਦਿਸ਼੍ਟਮਾਰੀਚਮਾਯਾ-
ਸਾਰਂਗ ਸਾਰਸਾਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਾ ਸ੍ਪ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਿਤਮਨੁਗਤਃ ਪ੍ਰਾਵਧੀਰ੍ਬਾਣਘਾਤਮ੍ ।
ਤਨ੍ਮਾਯਾਕ੍ਰਂਦਨਿਰ੍ਯਾਪਿਤਭਵਦਨੁਜਾਂ ਰਾਵਣਸ੍ਤਾਮਹਾਰ੍ਸ਼ੀ-
ਤ੍ਤੇਨਾਰ੍ਤੋ਽ਪਿ ਤ੍ਵਮਂਤਃ ਕਿਮਪਿ ਮੁਦਮਧਾਸ੍ਤਦ੍ਵਧੋਪਾਯਲਾਭਾਤ੍ ॥9॥

Meaning
ਸੋਦਰ੍ਯਾ-ਪ੍ਰੋਕ੍ਤ-ਵਾਰ੍ਤਾ- - by (his) sister (he was) told the account; ਵਿਵਸ਼-ਦਸ਼ਮੁਖ- - infatuated Raavana; ਆਦਿਸ਼੍ਟ-ਮਾਰੀਚ- - ordered Maareech; ਮਾਯਾ-ਸਾਰਂਗ - (to become) the illusive dear; ਸਾਰਸਾਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਾ - by the lotus-eyed (Seetaa); ਸ੍ਪ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਿਤਮ੍-ਅਨੁਗਤਃ - (it was) desired, (Thou) went after; ਪ੍ਰਾਵਧੀਃ-ਬਾਣ-ਘਾਤਮ੍ - (and) killed with an arrow; ਤਤ੍-ਮਾਯਾ-ਕ੍ਰਂਦ- - by him an illusive cry; ਨਿਰ੍ਯਾਪਿਤ-ਭਵਤ੍-ਅਨੁਜਾਂ - sent out by her (Seetaa) Thy younger brother; ਰਾਵਣਃ-ਤਾਮ੍-ਅਹਾਰ੍ਸ਼ੀਤ੍- - Raaavana abducted her; ਤੇਨ-ਆਰ੍ਤਃ-ਅਪਿ - because of that even though grieved; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍-ਅਂਤਃ - Thou inwardly; ਕਿਮ੍-ਅਪਿ-ਮੁਦਮ੍-ਅਧਾਃ- - were somewhat pleased; ਤਤ੍-ਵਧ-ਉਪਾਯ-ਲਾਭਾਤ੍ - for getting a reason for killing him;

Translation
Raavana's sister Shurpanakhaa gave an account of Seetaa by which he was infatuated and ordered Maareech to become the illusive deer. The lotus eyed Seetaa, made a desire for the deer and Thou went after it and killed it with an arrow. As Maareech died, he gave an illusive cry imitating Raama. Hearing the cry , Seetaa sent away Thy younger brother Lakshmana after him. Finding her alone Raavana abducted Seetaa. Though Thou were grieved at this, Thou also felt some joy as this gave a good reason to kill Raavana.

ਭੂਯਸ੍ਤਨ੍ਵੀਂ ਵਿਚਿਨ੍ਵਨ੍ਨਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ ਦਸ਼ਮੁਖਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਦ੍ਵਧੂਂ ਮਦ੍ਵਧੇਨੇ-
ਤ੍ਯੁਕ੍ਤ੍ਵਾ ਯਾਤੇ ਜਟਾਯੌ ਦਿਵਮਥ ਸੁਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਃ ਪ੍ਰਾਤਨੋਃ ਪ੍ਰੇਤਕਾਰ੍ਯਮ੍ ।
ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹ੍ਣਾਨਂ ਤਂ ਕਬਂਧਂ ਜਘਨਿਥ ਸ਼ਬਰੀਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ ਪਂਪਾਤਟੇ ਤ੍ਵਂ
ਸਂਪ੍ਰਾਪ੍ਤੋ ਵਾਤਸੂਨੁਂ ਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਮੁਦਿਤਮਨਾਃ ਪਾਹਿ ਵਾਤਾਲਯੇਸ਼ ॥10॥

Meaning
ਭੂਯਃ-ਤਨ੍ਵੀਂ ਵਿਚਿਨ੍ਵਨ੍- - thereafter, searching for the beautiful one; ਅਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਃ ਦਸ਼ਮੁਖਃ- - Raavana abducted; ਤ੍ਵਤ੍-ਵਧੂਂ ਮਤ੍-ਵਧੇਨ- - Thy consort by killing me; ਇਤਿ-ਉਕ੍ਤ੍ਵਾ ਯਾਤੇ ਜਟਾਯੌ - saying thus (when) Jataayu went to; ਦਿਵਮ੍-ਅਥ ਸੁਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਃ - heaven, then of his friend (Jataayu); ਪ੍ਰਾਤਨੋਃ ਪ੍ਰੇਤਕਾਰ੍ਯਮ੍ - (Thou) performed funeral rites; ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹ੍ਣਾਨਂ ਤਂ ਕਬਂਧਂ - who had caught hold of Thee that Kabandha; ਜਘਨਿਥ ਸ਼ਬਰੀਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ - (Thou) killed, bestowed salvation to Shabari; ਪਂਪਾਤਟੇ ਤ੍ਵਂ ਸਂਪ੍ਰਾਪ੍ਤਃ ਵਾਤਸੂਨੁਂ - on the banks of Pampaa getting to meet Hanumaan; ਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਮੁਦਿਤਮਨਾਃ - Thou were greatly delighted; ਪਾਹਿ ਵਾਤਾਲਯੇਸ਼ - protect O Lord of Guruvaayur!;

Translation
While searching for Seetaa, the dying Jataayu informed Thee that Raavana had abducted Seetaa and also had inflicted fatal wounds on him, when offered resistance.Thou performed the funeral rites of this friend Jataayu. On the way the monster Kabandha obstructed Thee and was killed. Thou then gave salvation to the ascetic woman Shabari and also got to meet Hanumaana on the banks of the river Pampaa, to Thy great delight. O Lord of Guruvaayur! protect me.
