ਮਾਰੋਤ੍ਸਵਂ ਤ੍ਵਮਥ ਸਾਧਯਿਤੁਂ ਪ੍ਰਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ੍ਤਃ ।

ਪ੍ਰਾਪੂਰਯੋ ਮੁਰਲਿਕਾਂ ਯਮੁਨਾਵਨਾਂਤੇ ॥1॥
Meaning
ਗੋਪੀਜਨਾਯ - for the Gopikaas; ਕਥਿਤਂ - said (promised); ਨਿਯਮ-ਅਵਸਾਨੇ - (when their) vows had ended; ਮਾਰ-ਉਤ੍ਸਵਂ - the love-god festival; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍-ਅਥ - Thou then; ਸਾਧਯਿਤੁਂ ਪ੍ਰਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ੍ਤਃ - to carry out (fulfill) decided; ਸਾਂਦ੍ਰੇਣ ਚਾਂਦ੍ਰਮਹਸਾ - with bright light of the full moon; ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਿਰੀ-ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ-ਆਸ਼ੇ - and cooled all the directions; ਪ੍ਰਾਪੂਰਯਃ ਮੁਰਲਿਕਾਂ - (Thou) filled well (played) the flute; ਯਮੁਨਾ-ਵਨ-ਅਂਤੇ - in the forests on the banks of Yamunaa;
Translation
Thou then decided to carry out the festival of the love god, which Thou had promised to the Gopikaas when their vows had ended. One night, with the bright light of the full moon, when all the directions were cool, in the forest on the banks of the river Yamunaa, Thou resoundingly played the flute.

ਸਮ੍ਮੂਰ੍ਛਨਾਭਿਰੁਦਿਤਸ੍ਵਰਮਂਡਲਾਭਿਃ
ਸਮ੍ਮੂਰ੍ਛਯਂਤਮਖਿਲਂ ਭੁਵਨਾਂਤਰਾਲਮ੍ ।
ਤ੍ਵਦ੍ਵੇਣੁਨਾਦਮੁਪਕਰ੍ਣ੍ਯ ਵਿਭੋ ਤਰੁਣ੍ਯ-
ਸ੍ਤਤ੍ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਂ ਕਮਪਿ ਚਿਤ੍ਤਵਿਮੋਹਮਾਪੁਃ ॥2॥
Meaning
ਸਮ੍ਮੂਰ੍ਛਨਾਭਿਃ- - by the seven (ascending and descending) notes; ਉਦਿਤ- - emerging; ਸ੍ਵਰਮਂਡਲਾਭਿਃ - in a musical strain; ਸਮ੍ਮੂਰ੍ਛਯਂਤਮ੍- - enchanting; ਅਖਿਲਂ - everything; ਭੁਵਨ-ਅਂਤਰਾਲਮ੍ - in the world space; ਤ੍ਵਤ੍-ਵੇਣੁ-ਨਾਦਮ੍- - Thy flute resounding; ਉਪਕਰ੍ਣ੍ਯ ਵਿਭੋ - hearing (which) O All pervading Lord!; ਤਰੁਣ੍ਯਃ-ਤਤ੍-ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਂ - the damsels, that compared to that (incomparable); ਕਮ੍-ਅਪਿ - some (sort of); ਚਿਤ੍ਤ-ਵਿਮੋਹਮ੍-ਆਪੁਃ - mind captivation attained to;
Translation
O All pervading Lord! In the resounding sound of Thy flute the seven ascending and descending notes emerged in a musical strain and enchanted everything in the world space. Hearing which the damsels attained an unparalleled and incomparable captivating state of their mind.

ਤਾ ਗੇਹਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ੍ਯਨਿਰਤਾਸ੍ਤਨਯਪ੍ਰਸਕ੍ਤਾਃ
ਕਾਂਤੋਪਸੇਵਨਪਰਾਸ਼੍ਚ ਸਰੋਰੁਹਾਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਃ ।
ਸਰ੍ਵਂ ਵਿਸ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਜ੍ਯ ਮੁਰਲੀਰਵਮੋਹਿਤਾਸ੍ਤੇ
ਕਾਂਤਾਰਦੇਸ਼ਮਯਿ ਕਾਂਤਤਨੋ ਸਮੇਤਾਃ ॥3॥
Meaning
ਤਾਃ - they; ਗੇਹ-ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ੍ਯ-ਨਿਰਤਾਃ- - who were in household duties engaged; ਤਨਯ-ਪ੍ਰਸਕ੍ਤਾਃ - (or) were their children tending; ਕਾਂਤ-ਉਪਸੇਵਨ-ਪਰਾਃ-ਚ - and in the husband's service eager; ਸਰੋਰੁਹ-ਆਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਃ - (they) the lotus eyed damsels; ਸਰ੍ਵਂ ਵਿਸ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਜ੍ਯ - everything abandoning; ਮੁਰਲੀ-ਰਵ- - (by) the flute sound; ਮੋਹਿਤਾਃ-ਤੇ - captivated they (the damsels); ਕਾਂਤਾਰ-ਦੇਸ਼ਮ੍- - to the forest place; ਅਯਿ ਕਾਂਤ-ਤਨੋ - O Resplendent One!; ਸਮੇਤਾਃ - came;
Translation
O Resplendent One! The lotus eyed damsels were captivated by the sound of Thy flute. They, who were engaged in the household duties, or were taking care of their children, or were engaged in serving their husbands, abandoned everything and came rushing to the forest place.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਕਾਸ਼੍ਚਿਨ੍ਨਿਜਾਂਗਪਰਿਭੂਸ਼ਣਮਾਦਧਾਨਾ
ਵੇਣੁਪ੍ਰਣਾਦਮੁਪਕਰ੍ਣ੍ਯ ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਾਰ੍ਧਭੂਸ਼ਾਃ ।
ਤ੍ਵਾਮਾਗਤਾ ਨਨੁ ਤਥੈਵ ਵਿਭੂਸ਼ਿਤਾਭ੍ਯ-
ਸ੍ਤਾ ਏਵ ਸਂਰੁਰੁਚਿਰੇ ਤਵ ਲੋਚਨਾਯ ॥4॥
Meaning
ਕਾਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍- - some (damsels); ਨਿਜ-ਅਂਗ- - their own bodies; ਪਰਿਭੂਸ਼ਣਮ੍- - (with) dress and jewels; ਆਦਧਾਨਾ - adorning; ਵੇਣੁ-ਪ੍ਰਣਾਦਮ੍- - the resounding flute sound; ਉਪਕਰ੍ਣ੍ਯ - hearing; ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ-ਅਰ੍ਧ-ਭੂਸ਼ਾਃ - having adorned half way only; ਤ੍ਵਾਮ੍-ਆਗਤਾਃ - to Thee came; ਨਨੁ ਤਥਾ-ਏਵ - indeed thus only; ਵਿਭੂਸ਼ਿਤਾਭ੍ਯਃ - than those who were fully adorned; ਤਾ ਏਵ - they only; ਸਂਰੁਰੁਚਿਰੇ - were more pleasing; ਤਵ ਲੋਚਨਾਯ - for Thy eyes;
Translation
Some of the damsels were dressing up and adorning their bodies with jewels. As they heard the resounding sound of the flute, they came to Thee having adorned themselves halfway. For Thy eyes they were far more pleasing indeed than those who were fully adorned.

ਹਾਰਂ ਨਿਤਂਬਭੁਵਿ ਕਾਚਨ ਧਾਰਯਂਤੀ
ਕਾਂਚੀਂ ਚ ਕਂਠਭੁਵਿ ਦੇਵ ਸਮਾਗਤਾ ਤ੍ਵਾਮ੍ ।
ਹਾਰਿਤ੍ਵਮਾਤ੍ਮਜਘਨਸ੍ਯ ਮੁਕੁਂਦ ਤੁਭ੍ਯਂ
ਵ੍ਯਕ੍ਤਂ ਬਭਾਸ਼ ਇਵ ਮੁਗ੍ਧਮੁਖੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਾਤ੍ ॥5॥
Meaning
ਹਾਰਂ ਨਿਤਂਬ-ਭੁਵਿ - necklace on the hip area; ਕਾਚਨ ਧਾਰਯਂਤੀ - someone wearing; ਕਾਂਚੀਂ ਚ - and the waist band; ਕਂਠ-ਭੁਵਿ - in the neck area; ਦੇਵ - O Lord!; ਸਮਾਗਤਾ ਤ੍ਵਾਮ੍ - came to Thee; ਹਾਰਿਤ੍ਵਮ੍- - the attractiveness; ਆਤ੍ਮ-ਜਘਨਸ੍ਯ - of her own hips; ਮੁਕੁਂਦ ਤੁਭ੍ਯਂ - O Mukund for Thee; ਵ੍ਯਕ੍ਤਂ ਬਭਾਸ਼ ਇਵ - clearly declared as if; ਮੁਗ੍ਧਮੁਖੀ - the charming faced one; ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਾਤ੍ - in particular;
Translation
O Lord! One woman, in her haste, came to Thee wearing a necklace on the hips and the waist band in the neck area. O Mukund! It was as if the charming faced one clearly indicated to Thee in particular the attractiveness of her own hips.

ਕਾਚਿਤ੍ ਕੁਚੇ ਪੁਨਰਸਜ੍ਜਿਤਕਂਚੁਲੀਕਾ
ਵ੍ਯਾਮੋਹਤਃ ਪਰਵਧੂਭਿਰਲਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਮਾਣਾ ।
ਤ੍ਵਾਮਾਯਯੌ ਨਿਰੁਪਮਪ੍ਰਣਯਾਤਿਭਾਰ-
ਰਾਜ੍ਯਾਭਿਸ਼ੇਕਵਿਧਯੇ ਕਲਸ਼ੀਧਰੇਵ ॥6॥
Meaning
ਕਾਚਿਤ੍ ਕੁਚੇ - some one ,on her breasts; ਪੁਨਃ-ਅਸਜ੍ਜਿਤ- - again not wearing; ਕਂਚੁਲੀਕਾ - the upper garment; ਵ੍ਯਾਮੋਹਤਃ - because of excitement; ਪਰਵਧੂਭਿਃ- - by other women; ਅਲਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਮਾਣਾ - also not noticed; ਤ੍ਵਾਮ੍-ਆਯਯੌ - to Thee came; ਨਿਰੁਪਮ-ਪ੍ਰਣਯ- - (as if) unparalleled (intense) love; ਅਤਿਭਾਰ- - intense (weighed down by); ਰਾਜ੍ਯ-ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ-ਵਿਧਯੇ - kingdom coronation celebration; ਕਲਸ਼ੀਧਰ-ਇਵ - water pitchers as if;
Translation
Some another woman, in her excitement came to Thee not wearing any upper garment on her breasts. She was not noticed in such a state by the other women, who were as excited. It was as if she was weighed down by the unparalleled intense love she carried as water pitchers as breasts for the celebration of Thy coronation in the kingdom of love.

ਦੇਹਂ ਵਿਧੂਯ ਪਰਚਿਤ੍ਸੁਖਰੂਪਮੇਕਂ
ਤ੍ਵਾਮਾਵਿਸ਼ਨ੍ ਪਰਮਿਮਾ ਨਨੁ ਧਨ੍ਯਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ ॥7॥
Meaning
ਕਾਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਾਤ੍ - some one from home; ਕਿਲ ਨਿਰੇਤੁਮ੍- - indeed to come out; ਅਪਾਰਯਂਤ੍ਯਃ - being unable; ਤ੍ਵਾਮ੍-ਏਵ ਦੇਵ - Thee alone O Lord!; ਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਯੇ ਸੁਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਢਂ ਵਿਭਾਵ੍ਯ - in heart firmly meditating; ਦੇਹਂ ਵਿਧੂਯ - body giving up; ਪਰ-ਚਿਤ੍-ਸੁਖ- - the Supreme conscious bliss; ਰੂਪਮ੍-ਏਕਂ ਤ੍ਵਾਮ੍- - form of non-dual, in Thee; ਆਵਿਸ਼ਨ੍ - merging; ਪਰਮ੍-ਇਮਾਃ-ਨਨੁ - very much these (women) indeed; ਧਨ੍ਯ-ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ - (were) most fortunate;
Translation
Some of them were indeed unable to come out from home. O Lord! They meditated on Thee firmly in their hearts. With the result, they gave up their bodies and merged with Thy non dual form and attained the Supreme consciousness bliss. These indeed were the most fortunate ones.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਜਾਰਾਤ੍ਮਨਾ ਨ ਪਰਮਾਤ੍ਮਤਯਾ ਸ੍ਮਰਂਤ੍ਯੋ
ਨਾਰ੍ਯੋ ਗਤਾਃ ਪਰਮਹਂਸਗਤਿਂ ਕ੍ਸ਼ਣੇਨ ।
ਤਂ ਤ੍ਵਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਪਰਮਾਤ੍ਮਤਨੁਂ ਕਥਂਚਿ-
ਚ੍ਚਿਤ੍ਤੇ ਵਹਨ੍ਨਮ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਮਸ਼੍ਰਮਮਸ਼੍ਨੁਵੀਯ ॥8॥
Meaning
ਜਾਰਾਤ੍ਮਨਾ - by the feeling of paramour; ਨ ਪਰਮਾਤ੍ਮਤਯਾ - not by the feeling of godliness; ਸ੍ਮਰਂਤ੍ਯਃ - thinking of Thee; ਨਾਰ੍ਯਃ ਗਤਾਃ - the women attained; ਪਰਮਹਂਸਗਤਿਂ - to the state of liberation; ਕ੍ਸ਼ਣੇਨ ਤਂ ਤ੍ਵਾਂ - in a moment, that Thou; ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਪਰਮਾਤ੍ਮ-ਤਨੁਂ - resplendent supreme form; ਕਥਂਚਿਤ੍- - in any manner; ਚਿਤ੍ਤੇ ਵਹਨ੍- - in the mind holding (meditating); ਅਮ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਮ੍- - the state of immortality; ਅਸ਼੍ਰਮਮ੍-ਅਸ਼੍ਨੁਵੀਯ - effortlessly may I attain;
Translation
These women thought of Thee and remembered Thee not with the feeling of godliness, Paramaatmaa, but with the feeling of paramour. In a moment, they attained the state of liberation with Thee. O Supreme Resplendent form! Meditating in the mind in some or the other manner may I attain the state of immortality effortlessly.

ਅਭ੍ਯਾਗਤਾਭਿਰਭਿਤੋ ਵ੍ਰਜਸੁਂਦਰੀਭਿ-
ਰ੍ਮੁਗ੍ਧਸ੍ਮਿਤਾਰ੍ਦ੍ਰਵਦਨਃ ਕਰੁਣਾਵਲੋਕੀ ।
ਨਿਸ੍ਸੀਮਕਾਂਤਿਜਲਧਿਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮਵੇਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਮਾਣੋ
ਵਿਸ਼੍ਵੈਕਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦ੍ਯ ਹਰ ਮੇ ਪਵਨੇਸ਼ ਰੋਗਾਨ੍ ॥9॥
Meaning
ਅਭ੍ਯਾਗਤਾਭਿਃ- - by those who had come; ਅਭਿਤਃ - all around; ਵ੍ਰਜਸੁਂਦਰੀਭਿਃ- - (by) the beautiful women fo Vraja; ਮੁਗ੍ਧ-ਸ੍ਮਿਤ-ਆਰ੍ਦ੍ਰ-ਵਦਨਃ - (with) a captivating smile lit on the face; ਕਰੁਣਾ-ਅਵਲੋਕੀ - (Thou) glancing with compassion; ਨਿਸ੍ਸੀਮ-ਕਾਂਤਿ- - unbound splendorous; ਜਲਧਿਃ-ਤ੍ਵਮ੍- - ocean Thou; ਅਵੇਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਮਾਣਃ - were looked at (by the women); ਵਿਸ਼੍ਵੈਕਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦ੍ਯ - O Stealer of the world's heart!; ਹਰ ਮੇ - rid me of my; ਪਵਨੇਸ਼ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ਰੋਗਾਨ੍ - ailments;
Translation
The beautiful women of Vraja, who had come and gathered all around Thee, were looking at Thee. Thou had a captivating smile lighting Thy face, glancing with compassion, and Thou who are like an unbound ocean of splendour, O Hari! The stealer of the world's heart! rid me, O Lord of Guruvaayur! of my ailments.
