ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਭਵਤ੍ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਾਵਿਦੁਰਾ ਹਿ ਗੋਪਾਸ੍ਤਰੁਪ੍ਰਪਾਤਾਦਿਕਮਤ੍ਰ ਗੋਸ਼੍ਠੇ ।
ਅਹੇਤੁਮੁਤ੍ਪਾਤਗਣਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਂਕ੍ਯ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤੁਮਨ੍ਯਤ੍ਰ ਮਨੋ ਵਿਤੇਨੁਃ ॥1॥

Meaning
ਭਵਤ੍-ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ- - Thy glory; ਅਵਿਦੁਰਾਃ ਹਿ ਗੋਪਾਃ- - not knowing, so indeed, the Gopas; ਤਰੁ-ਪ੍ਰਪਾਤ-ਆਦਿਕਮ੍- - the trees' falling and other such (incidents); ਅਤ੍ਰ ਗੋਸ਼੍ਠੇ - here in Gokula; ਅਹੇਤੁਮ੍-ਉਤ੍ਪਾਤ-ਗਣਮ੍ - unreasonable ill-omens; ਵਿਸ਼ਂਕ੍ਯ - suspecting; ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤੁਮ੍-ਅਨ੍ਯਤ੍ਰ - to move, somewhere else; ਮਨਃ ਵਿਤੇਨੁਃ - minds made up (decided);

Translation
The Gopas who were not aware of Thy glory and greatness, interpreted the falling of the trees and such other occurrences as unaccountable ill-omens. So they made up their minds and decided to migrate to some other place.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਤਤ੍ਰੋਪਨਂਦਾਭਿਧਗੋਪਵਰ੍ਯੋ ਜਗੌ ਭਵਤ੍ਪ੍ਰੇਰਣਯੈਵ ਨੂਨਮ੍ ।
ਇਤਃ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਚ੍ਯਾਂ ਵਿਪਿਨਂ ਮਨੋਜ੍ਞਂ ਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਦਾਵਨਂ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਰਾਜਤੀਤਿ ॥2॥

Meaning
ਤਤ੍ਰ-ਉਪਨਂਦ-ਅਭਿਧ- - there, by the name of Upananda; ਗੋਪਵਰ੍ਯਃ ਜਗੌ - the leading Gopa said; ਭਵਤ੍-ਪ੍ਰੇਰਣਯਾ-ਏਵ - by Thy prompting alone; ਨੂਨਮ੍ - certainly; ਇਤਃ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਚ੍ਯਾਮ੍ - from here to the West; ਵਿਪਿਨਂ ਮਨੋਜ੍ਞਂ - a pleasant forest land; ਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਦਾਵਨਂ ਨਾਮ - Vrindaavana by name; ਵਿਰਾਜਤਿ-ਇਤਿ - is situated, thus (he said);

Translation
Indeed by Thy prompting alone, a leading Gopa named Upananda brought to their notice the beautiful forest country side called Vrindaavana, situated to the west of Gokula, as a proper location for their settlement.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਬ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਦ੍ਵਨਂ ਤਤ੍ ਖਲੁ ਨਂਦਮੁਖ੍ਯਾ ਵਿਧਾਯ ਗੌਸ਼੍ਠੀਨਮਥ ਕ੍ਸ਼ਣੇਨ ।
ਤ੍ਵਦਨ੍ਵਿਤਤ੍ਵਜ੍ਜਨਨੀਨਿਵਿਸ਼੍ਟਗਰਿਸ਼੍ਠਯਾਨਾਨੁਗਤਾ ਵਿਚੇਲੁਃ ॥3॥

Meaning
ਬ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਦ੍ਵਨਂ ਤਤ੍ ਖਲੁ - Vrihadvana, that indeed; ਨਂਦ-ਮੁਖ੍ਯਾ ਵਿਧਾਯ - Nanda and others making; ਗੌਸ਼੍ਠੀਨਮ੍-ਅਥ - a cowshed then; ਕ੍ਸ਼ਣੇਨ - in no time; ਤ੍ਵਤ੍-ਅਨ੍ਵਿਤ- - carrying Thee; ਤ੍ਵਤ੍-ਜਨਨੀ-ਨਿਵਿਸ਼੍ਟ- - (and) Thy mother sitting; ਗਰਿਸ਼੍ਠ-ਯਾਨ-ਅਨੁਗਤਾ - in the imposing vehicle, following; ਵਿਚੇਲੁਃ - proceeded;

Translation
Nanda and the others soon abandoned the Vrihadvana settlement and made it as a cowshed. They proceeded following the imposing vehicle which was carrying Thee and in which Thy mother was sitting.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਨੋਮਨੋਜ੍ਞਧ੍ਵਨਿਧੇਨੁਪਾਲੀਖੁਰਪ੍ਰਣਾਦਾਂਤਰਤੋ ਵਧੂਭਿਃ ।
ਭਵਦ੍ਵਿਨੋਦਾਲਪਿਤਾਕ੍ਸ਼ਰਾਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਪੀਯ ਨਾਜ੍ਞਾਯਤ ਮਾਰ੍ਗਦੈਰ੍ਘ੍ਯਮ੍ ॥4॥

Meaning
ਅਨਃ-ਮਨੋਜ੍ਞ-ਧ੍ਵਨਿ- - of the cart, the pleasant sound; ਧੇਨੁ-ਪਾਲੀ- - of the rows of the cows; ਖੁਰ-ਪ੍ਰਣਾਦ-ਅਂਤਰਤਃ - trampling of the hooves, interspersed,; ਵਧੂਭਿਃ - by the ladies; ਭਵਤ੍-ਵਿਨੋਦ- - Thy playfully; ਆਲਪਿਤ-ਅਕ੍ਸ਼ਰਾਣਿ - spoken words; ਪ੍ਰਪੀਯ ਨ-ਅਜ੍ਞਾਯਤ - drinking in, did not feel; ਮਾਰ੍ਗ-ਦੈਰ੍ਘ੍ਯਮ੍ - the path's distance;

Translation
The Gopikaas did not feel the distance of the path covered, as they were fully engrossed in Thy playful prattle. The pleasant sound of the cart was interspersed by the trampling sound of the hooves of the rows of the cows.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਨਿਰੀਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ ਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਦਾਵਨਮੀਸ਼ ਨਂਦਤ੍ਪ੍ਰਸੂਨਕੁਂਦਪ੍ਰਮੁਖਦ੍ਰੁਮੌਘਮ੍ ।
ਅਮੋਦਥਾਃ ਸ਼ਾਦ੍ਵਲਸਾਂਦ੍ਰਲਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਮ੍ਯਾ ਹਰਿਨ੍ਮਣੀਕੁਟ੍ਟਿਮਪੁਸ਼੍ਟਸ਼ੋਭਮ੍ ॥5॥

Meaning
ਨਿਰੀਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ ਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਦਾਵਨਮ੍- - on seeing Vrindaavana; ਈਸ਼ - O Lord!; ਨਂਦਤ੍-ਪ੍ਰਸੂਨ- - with flowers blossoming; ਕੁਂਦ-ਪ੍ਰਮੁਖ-ਦ੍ਰੁਮ-ਔਘਮ੍ - mainly Kunda and clusters of trees; ਅਮੋਦਥਾਃ - (Thou were) delighted; ਸ਼ਾਦ੍ਵਲ-ਸਾਂਦ੍ਰ-ਲਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਮ੍ਯਾ - the thick grass with its intense beauty; ਹਰਿਨ੍-ਮਣੀ-ਕੁਟ੍ਟਿਮ- - (as though) green emerald inlaid; ਪੁਸ਼੍ਟ-ਸ਼ੋਭਮ੍ - (hence) adding to the beauty;

Translation
O Lord! Thou were delighted to see Vrindaavana. The Kunda flowers were in full bloom and there were clusters of trees all around. Its expansive grass lands had the intense beauty as though green emerald was inlaid.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਨਵਾਕਨਿਰ੍ਵ੍ਯੂਢਨਿਵਾਸਭੇਦੇਸ਼੍ਵਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਗੋਪੇਸ਼ੁ ਸੁਖਾਸਿਤੇਸ਼ੁ ।
ਵਨਸ਼੍ਰਿਯਂ ਗੋਪਕਿਸ਼ੋਰਪਾਲੀਵਿਮਿਸ਼੍ਰਿਤਃ ਪਰ੍ਯਗਲੋਕਥਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ॥6॥

Meaning
ਨਵਾਕ-ਨਿਰ੍ਵ੍ਯੂਢ- - in the form of a half moon (semi circle), having built; ਨਿਵਾਸ-ਭੇਦੇਸ਼ੁ- - the houses differently; ਅਸ਼ੇਸ਼-ਗੋਪੇਸ਼ੁ - when all the Gopas; ਸੁਖ-ਆਸਿਤੇਸ਼ੁ - were sitting comfortably; ਵਨਸ਼੍ਰਿਯਂ - the beauty of the forest; ਗੋਪ-ਕਿਸ਼ੋਰ-ਪਾਲੀ- - with the group of the young boys of the Gopas; ਵਿਮਿਸ਼੍ਰਿਤਃ - (Thou) mingling with them; ਪਰ੍ਯਕ੍-ਅਲੋਕਥਾਃ-ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ - all around admiringly saw Thou;

Translation
The Gopas built their new houses forming a semi-circle, and settled down there and were sitting peacefully and comfortably. Along with the young boys of the Gopas, Thou went about the whole place looking around admiringly, and enjoying the beauty of the forest.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਰਾਲਮਾਰ੍ਗਾਗਤਨਿਰ੍ਮਲਾਪਾਂ ਮਰਾਲਕੂਜਾਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਨਰ੍ਮਲਾਪਾਮ੍ ।
ਨਿਰਂਤਰਸ੍ਮੇਰਸਰੋਜਵਕ੍ਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਕਲਿਂਦਕਨ੍ਯਾਂ ਸਮਲੋਕਯਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ॥7॥

Meaning
ਅਰਾਲ-ਮਾਰ੍ਗ- - in winding ways; ਆਗਤ੍-ਨਿਰ੍ਮਲ-ਆਪਾਂ - flowing with clear waters; ਮਰਾਲ-ਕੂਜ- - by the swans' cooings; ਆਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ-ਨਰ੍ਮ-ਲਾਪਾਮ੍ - making the river sound sweet; ਨਿਰਂਤਰ-ਸ੍ਮੇਰ- - ever smiling; ਸਰੋਜ-ਵਕ੍ਤ੍ਰਾਮ੍ - lotus faced; ਕਲਿਂਦ-ਕਨ੍ਯਾਮ੍ - the daughter of Kalinda; ਸਮਲੋਕਯਃ-ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ - Thou saw;

Translation
Thou saw the daughter of Kalinda, Kaalindi or Yamunaa river which was flowing with clear waters through winding ways. The echoes of the cooing of the swans enhanced the sweet sound of the river. The thick growth of the full blown lotuses was like her ever smiling face.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਮਯੂਰਕੇਕਾਸ਼ਤਲੋਭਨੀਯਂ ਮਯੂਖਮਾਲਾਸ਼ਬਲਂ ਮਣੀਨਾਮ੍ ।
ਵਿਰਿਂਚਲੋਕਸ੍ਪ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਮੁਚ੍ਚਸ਼੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਗੈਰ੍ਗਿਰਿਂ ਚ ਗੋਵਰ੍ਧਨਮੈਕ੍ਸ਼ਥਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ॥8॥

Meaning
ਮਯੂਰ-ਕੇਕਾ-ਸ਼ਤ- - with the peacocks' many calls; ਲੋਭਨੀਯਂ - (which was) resonant; ਮਯੂਖ-ਮਾਲਾ-ਸ਼ਬਲਮ੍ - by the rays of light's multi colored radiance; ਮਣੀਨਾਮ੍ - of the gems; ਵਿਰਿਂਚ-ਲੋਕ- - Brahma's abode; ਸ੍ਪ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਮ੍-ਉਚ੍ਚ-ਸ਼੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਗੈਃ - as though touching with its high peaks; ਗਿਰਿਂ ਚ ਗੋਵਰ੍ਧਨਮ੍- - and such a mountain Govardhana; ਐਕ੍ਸ਼ਥਾਃ-ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ - saw Thou;

Translation
Thou also saw the majestic Govardhana mountain. It was attractive by the resonant sound of the calls of the peacocks. It was radiant by the multi colored rays of the gems it contained. Its high peaks were as though touching the abode of Brahmaa.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਸਮਂ ਤਤੋ ਗੋਪਕੁਮਾਰਕੈਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਂ ਸਮਂਤਤੋ ਯਤ੍ਰ ਵਨਾਂਤਮਾਗਾਃ ।
ਤਤਸ੍ਤਤਸ੍ਤਾਂ ਕੁਟਿਲਾਮਪਸ਼੍ਯਃ ਕਲਿਂਦਜਾਂ ਰਾਗਵਤੀਮਿਵੈਕਾਮ੍ ॥9॥

Meaning
ਸਮਂ ਤਤਃ - with, then,; ਗੋਪਕੁਮਾਰਕੈਃ- - the Gopa boys; ਤ੍ਵਂ ਸਮਂਤਤਃ ਯਤ੍ਰ - Thou all around where ever; ਵਨਾਂਤਮ੍-ਆਗਾਃ - to the end of the forest went; ਤਤਃ-ਤਤਃ- - there, there; ਤਾਂ ਕੁਟਿਲਾਮ੍- - her winding; ਅਪਸ਼੍ਯਃ ਕਲਿਂਦਜਾਮ੍ - Thou saw the river Yamunaa; ਰਾਗਵਤੀਮ੍-ਇਵ-ਐਕਾਮ੍ - love-lorn like, in solitude;

Translation
Then with the Gopa boys where ever Thou went, even to the end of the forest, Thou came across the winding course of the Yamunaa river, as though she was a love-lorn damsel, waiting to meet Thee in solitude.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਤਥਾਵਿਧੇ਽ਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਵਿਪਿਨੇ ਪਸ਼ਵ੍ਯੇ ਸਮੁਤ੍ਸੁਕੋ ਵਤ੍ਸਗਣਪ੍ਰਚਾਰੇ ।
ਚਰਨ੍ ਸਰਾਮੋ਽ਥ ਕੁਮਾਰਕੈਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਂ ਸਮੀਰਗੇਹਾਧਿਪ ਪਾਹਿ ਰੋਗਾਤ੍ ॥10॥

Meaning
ਤਥਾ-ਵਿਧੇ- - in that kind of; ਅਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਵਿਪਿਨੇ - this forest; ਪਸ਼ਵ੍ਯੇ - suited for the cattle; ਸਮੁਤ੍ਸੁਕਃ - very excited; ਵਤ੍ਸਗਣ-ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰੇ - in the calves's tending; ਚਰਨ੍-ਸਰਾਮਃ-ਅਥ - moving about with Balaraama, then; ਕੁਮਾਰਕੈਃ-ਤ੍ਵਂ - and with the young boys, Thou; ਸਮੀਰਗੇਹਾਧਿਪ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ਪਾਹਿ ਰੋਗਾਤ੍ - protect me from illness;

Translation
Thou then with Balaraam and the other young boys with great excitement tended the calves in this forest which was well suited for the cattle. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Protect me from illness.
