ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਸ੍ਵਾਯਂਭੁਵੋ ਮਨੁਰਥੋ ਜਨਸਰ੍ਗਸ਼ੀਲੋ
ਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ ਮਹੀਮਸਮਯੇ ਸਲਿਲੇ ਨਿਮਗ੍ਨਾਮ੍ ।
ਸ੍ਰਸ਼੍ਟਾਰਮਾਪ ਸ਼ਰਣਂ ਭਵਦਂਘ੍ਰਿਸੇਵਾ-
ਤੁਸ਼੍ਟਾਸ਼ਯਂ ਮੁਨਿਜਨੈਃ ਸਹ ਸਤ੍ਯਲੋਕੇ ॥1॥

Meaning
ਸ੍ਵਾਯਂਭੁਵਃ ਮਨੁਃ - Swaayambhuva Manu; ਅਥਃ ਜਨਸਰ੍ਗਸ਼ੀਲਃ - then, who was engaged in creation; ਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ ਮਹੀਮ੍- - seeing the earth,; ਅਸਮਯੇ ਸਲਿਲੇ ਨਿਮਗ੍ਨਾਮ੍ - at a wrong time, being immersed in water; ਸ੍ਰਸ਼੍ਟਾਰਮ੍-ਆਪ ਸ਼ਰਣਂ - in the creator, Brahmaa, sought refuge; ਭਵਤ੍-ਅਂਘ੍ਰਿ-ਸੇਵਾ - in the service of Thy lotus feet; ਤੁਸ਼੍ਟ-ਆਸ਼ਯਂ - whose heart delighted; ਮੁਨਿਜਨੈਃ ਸਹ - along with the other sages; ਸਤ੍ਯਲੋਕੇ - in Satyaaloka;

Translation
Then Swaayambhuva Manu who was engaged in the work of creation, saw the earth emerged in water, untimely (when there was no Pralaya). He went to Satyaloka, in supplication to Brahmaa, the creator, whose heart delighted in the service of Thy lotus feet, along with the other sages.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਕਸ਼੍ਟਂ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਃ ਸ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਜਤਿ ਮਯ੍ਯਵਨਿਰ੍ਨਿਮਗ੍ਨਾ
ਸ੍ਥਾਨਂ ਸਰੋਜਭਵ ਕਲ੍ਪਯ ਤਤ੍ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਨਾਮ੍ ।
ਇਤ੍ਯੇਵਮੇਸ਼ ਕਥਿਤੋ ਮਨੁਨਾ ਸ੍ਵਯਂਭੂਃ -
ਰਂਭੋਰੁਹਾਕ੍ਸ਼ ਤਵ ਪਾਦਯੁਗਂ ਵ੍ਯਚਿਂਤੀਤ੍ ॥ 2 ॥

Meaning
ਕਸ਼੍ਟਂ - alas!; ਪ੍ਰਜਾਃ ਸ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਜਤਿ ਮਯਿ- - while I am creating beings; ਅਵਨਿਃ -ਨਿਮਗ੍ਨਾ - the earth is immersed; ਸ੍ਥਾਨਂ - place; ਸਰੋਜਭਵ - O Lotus Born! (Brahmaa); ਕਲ੍ਪਯ ਤਤ੍-ਪ੍ਰਜਾਨਾਮ੍ - provide therefore for the beings; ਇਤਿ-ਏਵਮ੍-ਏਸ਼ - thus he (Brahmaa); ਕਥਿਤਃ ਮਨੁਨਾ ਸ੍ਵਯਂਭੂਃ - - being told by Manu Swaayambhu; ਅਂਭੋਰੁਹਾਕ੍ਸ਼ - O Lotus eyed Lord!; ਤਵ ਪਾਦਯੁਗਂ - Thy two feet; ਵ੍ਯਚਿਂਤੀਤ੍ - (he) contemplated on;

Translation
Swaayambhuva Manu told the lotus born Brahmaa that it was a pity that the earth was submerged as he was creating beings. He asked for a place to be created for the beings. Hearing this Brahmaa started to contemplate on Thy two lotus feet, for a solution to the problem.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਹਾ ਹਾ ਵਿਭੋ ਜਲਮਹਂ ਨ੍ਯਪਿਬਂ ਪੁਰਸ੍ਤਾ-
ਦਦ੍ਯਾਪਿ ਮਜ੍ਜਤਿ ਮਹੀ ਕਿਮਹਂ ਕਰੋਮਿ ।
ਇਤ੍ਥਂ ਤ੍ਵਦਂਘ੍ਰਿਯੁਗਲਂ ਸ਼ਰਣਂ ਯਤੋ਽ਸ੍ਯ
ਨਾਸਾਪੁਟਾਤ੍ ਸਮਭਵਃ ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ੁਕੋਲਰੂਪੀ ।3॥

Meaning
ਹਾ ਹਾ ਵਿਭੋ - Oh! Oh! Lord!; ਜਲਮ੍-ਅਹਂ ਨ੍ਯਪਿਬਂ - I drank the waters; ਪੁਰਸ੍ਤਾਤ੍- - previously also; ਅਦ੍ਯ-ਅਪਿ ਮਜ੍ਜਤਿ ਮਹੀ - (yet) the earth is submerging; ਕਿਮ੍-ਅਹਂ ਕਰੋਮਿ - what shall I do; ਇਤ੍ਥਂ - saying so; ਤ੍ਵਤ੍-ਅਂਘ੍ਰਿ-ਯੁਗਲਂ - at Thy pair of feet; ਸ਼ਰਣਂ ਯਤਃ - - who had taken refuge; ਅਸ੍ਯ ਨਾਸਾਪੁਟਾਤ੍ - from his (Brahmaa's) nostrils; ਸਮਭਵਃ - Thou emerged; ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ੁ-ਕੋਲ-ਰੂਪੀ - in a child boar's form;

Translation
Brahmaa took refuge at Thy pair of lotus feet saying that he had earlier also drunk the waters and that the earth was still submerging and he did not know what to do. From Brahmaa's nostrils, who was saying thus, Thou emerged in the form of a child boar.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਂਗੁਸ਼੍ਠਮਾਤ੍ਰਵਪੁਰੁਤ੍ਪਤਿਤਃ ਪੁਰਸ੍ਤਾਤ੍
ਭੋਯੋ਽ਥ ਕੁਂਭਿਸਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਃ ਸਮਜ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਭਥਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ।
ਅਭ੍ਰੇ ਤਥਾਵਿਧਮੁਦੀਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ ਭਵਂਤਮੁਚ੍ਚੈ -
ਰ੍ਵਿਸ੍ਮੇਰਤਾਂ ਵਿਧਿਰਗਾਤ੍ ਸਹ ਸੂਨੁਭਿਃ ਸ੍ਵੈਃ ॥4॥

Meaning
ਅਂਗੁਸ਼੍ਠ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ-ਵਪੁਃ- - with a body of the size of a thumb; ਉਤ੍ਪਤਿਤਃ - emerged; ਪੁਰਸ੍ਤਾਤ੍ - at first; ਭੂਯਃ -ਅਥ - gradually then; ਕੁਂਭਿ-ਸਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਃ - an elephant in size; ਸਮਜ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਭਥਾਃ - ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ - did Thou grow; ਅਭ੍ਰੇ - in the sky; ਤਥਾ-ਵਿਧਮ੍-ਉਦੀਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ - in that form seeing; ਭਵਂਤਮ੍-ਉਚ੍ਚੈਃ - Thou so big; ਵਿਸ੍ਮੇਰਤਾਂ ਵਿਧਿਃ -ਅਗਾਤ੍ - wonder struck Brahmaa was; ਸਹ ਸੂਨੁਭਿਃ ਸ੍ਵੈਃ - with his own sons;

Translation
At first Thy size was of a thumb, then it gradually grew to the size of an elephant. Brahmaa and his sons were wonder struck seeing Thy huge form in the sky.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਕੋ਽ਸਾਵਚਿਂਤ੍ਯਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਿਟਿਰੁਤ੍ਥਿਤੋ ਮੇ
ਨਾਸਾਪੁਟਾਤ੍ ਕਿਮੁ ਭਵੇਦਜਿਤਸ੍ਯ ਮਾਯਾ ।
ਇਤ੍ਥਂ ਵਿਚਿਂਤਯਤਿ ਧਾਤਰਿ ਸ਼ੈਲਮਾਤ੍ਰਃ
ਸਦ੍ਯੋ ਭਵਨ੍ ਕਿਲ ਜਗਰ੍ਜਿਥ ਘੋਰਘੋਰਮ੍ ॥5॥

Meaning
ਕਃ -ਅਸੌ- - who is this; ਅਚਿਂਤ੍ਯ-ਮਹਿਮਾ - of unconceivable glory; ਕਿਟਿਃ -ਉਤ੍ਥਿਤਃ- - this boar which has emerged; ਮੇ ਨਾਸਾਪੁਟਾਤ੍ - from my nostrils; ਕਿਮੁ ਭਵੇਤ੍- - or is it; ਅਜਿਤਸ੍ਯ ਮਾਯਾ - the Invincible Lord's Maaya; ਇਤ੍ਥਂ ਵਿਚਿਂਤਯਤਿ - thus (as Brahmaa was) contemplating; ਧਾਤਰਿ - Brahmaa,; ਸ਼ੈਲਮਾਤ੍ਰਃ - the size of a mountain; ਸਦ੍ਯਃ ਭਵਨ੍ - soon becoming (Thou); ਕਿਲ ਜਗਰ੍ਜਿਥ - indeed roared; ਘੋਰਘੋਰਂ - in a terrific manner;

Translation
Brahmaa was wondering as to who the glorious boar was which had come out from his nostrils. As he was trying to reflect if it was the work of the Invincible Lord's Maayaa, Thee in the form of the boar became the size of a mountain and roared fiercely.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਤਂ ਤੇ ਨਿਨਾਦਮੁਪਕਰ੍ਣ੍ਯ ਜਨਸ੍ਤਪਃਸ੍ਥਾਃ
ਸਤ੍ਯਸ੍ਥਿਤਾਸ਼੍ਚ ਮੁਨਯੋ ਨੁਨੁਵੁਰ੍ਭਵਂਤਮ੍ ।
ਤਤ੍ਸ੍ਤੋਤ੍ਰਹਰ੍ਸ਼ੁਲਮਨਾਃ ਪਰਿਣਦ੍ਯ ਭੂਯ-
ਸ੍ਤੋਯਾਸ਼ਯਂ ਵਿਪੁਲਮੂਰ੍ਤਿਰਵਾਤਰਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ॥6॥

Meaning
ਤਂ ਤੇ ਨਿਨਾਦਮ੍- - that Thine roar; ਉਪਕਰ੍ਣ੍ਯ - hearing; ਜਨਃ-ਤਪਃ-ਸ੍ਥਾਃ - the inhabitants of the Jana and Tapa lokas; ਸਤ੍ਯ-ਸ੍ਥਿਤਾਃ -ਚ - and those in the Satyaloka; ਮੁਨਯਃ - sages; ਨੁਨੁਵੁਃ -ਭਵਂਤਮ੍ - praised Thee; ਤਤ੍-ਸ੍ਤੋਤ੍ਰ-ਹਰ੍ਸ਼ੁਲ-ਮਨਾਃ - by their praises pleased; ਪਰਿਣਦ੍ਯ ਭੂਯਃ - roaring again; ਤੋਯਾਸ਼ਯਂ - in the ocean; ਵਿਪੁਲ-ਮੂਰ੍ਤਿਃ - - assuming a huge form; ਅਵਾਤਰਃ -ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ - Thou jumped;

Translation
Hearing that fierce roar of Thine, the resident sages of the Jana, Tapa and Satya loka praised Thee. Pleased by their praises, Thou assumed a huge form and roaring again jumped into the ocean.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਊਰ੍ਧ੍ਵਪ੍ਰਸਾਰਿਪਰਿਧੂਮ੍ਰਵਿਧੂਤਰੋਮਾ
ਪ੍ਰੋਤ੍ਕ੍ਸ਼ਿਪ੍ਤਵਾਲਧਿਰਵਾਙ੍ਮੁਖਘੋਰਘੋਣਃ ।
ਤੂਰ੍ਣਪ੍ਰਦੀਰ੍ਣਜਲਦਃ ਪਰਿਘੂਰ੍ਣਦਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਣਾ
ਸ੍ਤੋਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਨ੍ ਮੁਨੀਨ੍ ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਿਰਯਨ੍ਨਵਤੇਰਿਥ ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ॥7॥

Meaning
ਊਰ੍ਧ੍ਵ-ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰਿ- - (with) standing erect; ਪਰਿਧੂਮ੍ਰ-ਵਿਧੂਤ-ਰੋਮਾ - dark red colored shivering hair; ਪ੍ਰੋਤ੍ਕ੍ਸ਼ਿਪ੍ਤ-ਵਾਲਧਿਃ - lifted up tail; ਅਵਾਙ੍-ਮੁਖ-ਘੋਰ-ਘੋਣਃ - pointing downwards the fierce snout; ਤੂਰ੍ਣ-ਪ੍ਰਦੀਰ੍ਣ-ਜਲਦਃ - with ease breaking through the clouds; ਪਰਿਘੂਰ੍ਣਤ੍-ਅਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਣਾ - rolling eyes; ਸ੍ਤੋਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਨ੍ ਮੁਨੀਨ੍ - the praising sages; ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਿਰਯਨ੍- - delighting; ਅਵਤੇਰਿਥ ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ - jumped down Thou;

Translation
With Thy twitching and erect reddish hair, tail lifted up and the fierce snout pointing down and the eyes rolling, delighting the sages who were praising Thee, Thou easily broke through the clouds and jumped.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਂਤਰ੍ਜਲਂ ਤਦਨੁਸਂਕੁਲਨਕ੍ਰਚਕ੍ਰਂ
ਭ੍ਰਾਮ੍ਯਤ੍ਤਿਮਿਂਗਿਲਕੁਲਂ ਕਲੁਸ਼ੋਰ੍ਮਿਮਾਲਮ੍ ।
ਆਵਿਸ਼੍ਯ ਭੀਸ਼ਣਰਵੇਣ ਰਸਾਤਲਸ੍ਥਾ -
ਨਾਕਂਪਯਨ੍ ਵਸੁਮਤੀਮਗਵੇਸ਼ਯਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ॥8॥

Meaning
ਅਂਤਰ੍ਜਲਂ - the waters' insides; ਤਦਨੁ- - then; ਸਂਕੁਲ-ਨਕ੍ਰ-ਚਕ੍ਰਂ - with moving about crocodiles; ਭ੍ਰਾਮ੍ਯਤ੍-ਤਿਮਿਂਗਿਲ-ਕੁਲਂ - with whirling around whales; ਕਲੁਸ਼-ਉਰ੍ਮਿ-ਮਾਲਮ੍ - with turbulent waters; ਆਵਿਸ਼੍ਯ - entering; ਭੀਸ਼ਣ-ਰਵੇਣ - with a fierce roar; ਰਸਾਤਲਸ੍ਥਾਨ੍- - the inhabitants of the nether worlds; ਆਕਂਪਯਨ੍ - shaking; ਵਸੁਮਤੀਮ੍- - the earth; ਅਗਵੇਸ਼ਯਃ - - searched for; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ - Thou;

Translation
Thou entered the insides of the waters where the crocodiles were moving about, whales were whirling around and which was full of turbulent waves. The inhabitants of the nether worlds shook with fear as with a fierce roar Thou searched for the earth.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ਽ਥ ਦੈਤ੍ਯਹਤਕੇਨ ਰਸਾਤਲਾਂਤੇ
ਸਂਵੇਸ਼ਿਤਾਂ ਝਟਿਤਿ ਕੂਟਕਿਟਿਰ੍ਵਿਭੋ ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ।
ਆਪਾਤੁਕਾਨਵਿਗਣਯ੍ਯ ਸੁਰਾਰਿਖੇਟਾਨ੍
ਦਂਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਰਾਂਕੁਰੇਣ ਵਸੁਧਾਮਦਧਾਃ ਸਲੀਲਮ੍ ॥9॥

Meaning
ਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ-ਅਥ - seeing then (the earth); ਦੈਤ੍ਯ-ਹਤਕੇਨ - by the wicked Asura; ਰਸਾਤਲ-ਅਂਤੇ - at the bottom of the Rasaatala; ਸਂਵੇਸ਼ਿਤਾਂ - concealed; ਝਟਿਤਿ - in no time; ਕੂਟ-ਕਿਟਿਃ - - (Thou who had by Maaya) assumed the form of a boar; ਵਿਭੋ ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ - O Lord! Thou,; ਆਪਾਤੁਕਾਨ੍- - the rushing (Asuras); ਅਵਿਗਣ੍ਯ੍ਯ - neglecting; ਸੁਰਾਰਿ-ਖੇਟਾਨ੍ - the wretched Asuraas; ਦਂਸ਼੍ਟ੍ਰ-ਅਂਕੁਰੇਣ - with the tusk's tip; ਵਸੁਧਾਮ੍-ਅਦਧਾਃ - the earth lifted up; ਸਲੀਲਮ੍ - as if in sport;

Translation
O Lord! Then seeing the earth concealed at the bottom of the Rasaatal, by the wretched Asura, Thou hastily lifted it up with the tip of the tusk of the boar, a form which Thou had asummed by Maaya. Treating the Asura with disdain who was rushing at Thee. All this was a mere sport for Thee.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਭ੍ਯੁਦ੍ਧਰਨ੍ਨਥ ਧਰਾਂ ਦਸ਼ਨਾਗ੍ਰਲਗ੍ਨ
ਮੁਸ੍ਤਾਂਕੁਰਾਂਕਿਤ ਇਵਾਧਿਕਪੀਵਰਾਤ੍ਮਾ ।
ਉਦ੍ਧੂਤਘੋਰਸਲਿਲਾਜ੍ਜਲਧੇਰੁਦਂਚਨ੍
ਕ੍ਰੀਡਾਵਰਾਹਵਪੁਰੀਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਪਾਹਿ ਰੋਗਾਤ੍ ॥10॥

Meaning
ਅਭ੍ਯੁਦ੍ਧਰਨ੍-ਅਥ - lifting up, then; ਧਰਾਂ - the earth; ਦਸ਼ਨ-ਅਗ੍ਰ-ਲਗ੍ਨਂ - in the tooth front stuck; ਮੁਸ੍ਤ-ਅਂਕੁਰ-ਅਂਕਿਤ ਇਵ - a blade of grass as if; ਅਧਿਕ-ਪੀਵਰ-ਆਤ੍ਮਾ - with a gigantic body; ਉਦ੍ਧੂਤ-ਘੋਰ-ਸਲਿਲਾਤ੍-ਜਲਧੇਃ- - from the fiercely shaken up waters of the ocean,; ਉਦਂਚਨ੍ - emerging; ਕ੍ਰੀਡਾ-ਵਰਾਹ-ਵਪੁਃ -ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ - sportingly (taking the form) of a boar body, O Lord!; ਪਾਹਿ ਰੋਗਾਤ੍ - save me from disease;

Translation
Thou who had sportingly assumed the body of a boar, lifted the earth from the frightening turbulent waters of the ocean. On Thy gigantic body, the earth looked like a blade of grass stuck on the tip Thy tusk. O Lord! Save me from the disease.
