ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਤਤਸ਼੍ਚ ਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਦਾਵਨਤੋ਽ਤਿਦੂਰਤੋ
ਵਨਂ ਗਤਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਂ ਖਲੁ ਗੋਪਗੋਕੁਲੈਃ ।
ਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਂਤਰੇ ਭਕ੍ਤਤਰਦ੍ਵਿਜਾਂਗਨਾ-
ਕਦਂਬਕਾਨੁਗ੍ਰਹਣਾਗ੍ਰਹਂ ਵਹਨ੍ ॥1॥

Meaning
ਤਤਃ-ਚ - and then; ਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਂਦਾਵਨਤਃ- - from Vrindaavana; ਅਤਿਦੂਰਤਃ - far away; ਵਨਂ ਗਤਃ-ਤ੍ਵਂ - (when) to the forest went Thou; ਖਲੁ ਗੋਪ-ਗੋਕੁਲੈਃ - indeed (with) the cowherds and cows; ਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਂਤਰੇ - in (Thy) heart; ਭਕ੍ਤਤਰ- - (to) the very devoted; ਦ੍ਵਿਜਾਂਗਨਾਃ- - Braahmin women; ਕਦਂਬਕ- - group; ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹਣ- - blessing; ਆਗ੍ਰਹਂ ਵਹਨ੍ - desire carrying;

Translation
Once Thou went into the forest far away from Vrindaavana, with the cows and the cowherds. In Thy heart Thou carried the desire of blessing the large group of the very devout Braahmin women.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਤਤੋ ਨਿਰੀਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਾਸ਼ਰਣੇ ਵਨਾਂਤਰੇ
ਕਿਸ਼ੋਰਲੋਕਂ ਕ੍ਸ਼ੁਧਿਤਂ ਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਾਕੁਲਮ੍ ।
ਅਦੂਰਤੋ ਯਜ੍ਞਪਰਾਨ੍ ਦ੍ਵਿਜਾਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ
ਵ੍ਯਸਰ੍ਜਯੋ ਦੀਦਿਵਿਯਾਚਨਾਯ ਤਾਨ੍ ॥2॥

Meaning
ਤਤਃ ਨਿਰੀਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯ- - then seeing; ਅਸ਼ਰਣੇ ਵਨਾਂਤਰੇ - without shelter, inside the forest; ਕਿਸ਼ੋਰ-ਲੋਕਂ - the boys; ਕ੍ਸ਼ੁਧਿਤਂ ਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਾ-ਆਕੁਲਂ - hungry (and) with thirst tormented; ਅਦੂਰਤਃ - not very far away; ਯਜ੍ਞਪਰਾਨ੍ - performing yagya; ਦ੍ਵਿਜਾਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ - Braahmins towards; ਵ੍ਯਸਰ੍ਜਯਃ - sent; ਦੀਦਿਵਿ-ਯਾਚਨਾਯ - boiled rice to beg; ਤਾਨ੍ - of them;

Translation
Then Thou saw that the boys were hungry and were tormented by thirst and the forest was without any dwellings where some food could be got. Not very far away some Braahmins were performing Yagya. Thou sent the boys to them to beg for some boiled rice (food).

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਗਤੇਸ਼੍ਵਥੋ ਤੇਸ਼੍ਵਭਿਧਾਯ ਤੇ਽ਭਿਧਾਂ
ਕੁਮਾਰਕੇਸ਼੍ਵੋਦਨਯਾਚਿਸ਼ੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੋ ।
ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤਿਸ੍ਥਿਰਾ ਅਪ੍ਯਭਿਨਿਨ੍ਯੁਰਸ਼੍ਰੁਤਿਂ
ਨ ਕਿਂਚਿਦੂਚੁਸ਼੍ਚ ਮਹੀਸੁਰੋਤ੍ਤਮਾਃ ॥3॥

Meaning
ਗਤੇਸ਼ੁ-ਅਥਃ ਤੇਸ਼ੁ- - they had gone ,then they; ਅਭਿਧਾਯ - mentioning; ਤੇ-ਅਭਿਧਾਂ - Thy name; ਕੁਮਾਰਕੇਸ਼ੁ- - the boys; ਓਦਨ-ਯਾਚਿਸ਼ੁ - for food had asked; ਪ੍ਰਭੋ - O Lord!; ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤਿ-ਸ੍ਥਿਰਾ ਅਪਿ- - (they) in Srutis firmly established even (though); ਅਭਿਨਿਨ੍ਯੁਃ-ਅਸ਼੍ਰੁਤਿਂ - took to not hearing; ਨ ਕਿਂਚਿਤ੍- - anything; ਊਚੁਃ-ਚ - said and; ਮਹੀਸੁਰ-ਉਤ੍ਤਮਾਃ - (they known to be) the Braahmins great;

Translation
O Lord! The boys then went to the Braahmins and they mentioned Thy name and asked for food. But the great Braahmins who were known to be well versed in Vedas (Shrutis) acted as if they had not heard anything and did not respond in any manner.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਨਾਦਰਾਤ੍ ਖਿਨ੍ਨਧਿਯੋ ਹਿ ਬਾਲਕਾਃ ।
ਸਮਾਯਯੁਰ੍ਯੁਕ੍ਤਮਿਦਂ ਹਿ ਯਜ੍ਵਸੁ ।
ਚਿਰਾਦਭਕ੍ਤਾਃ ਖਲੁ ਤੇ ਮਹੀਸੁਰਾਃ
ਕਥਂ ਹਿ ਭਕ੍ਤਂ ਤ੍ਵਯਿ ਤੈਃ ਸਮਰ੍ਪ੍ਯਤੇ ॥4॥

Meaning
ਅਨਾਦਰਾਤ੍ - ignored; ਖਿਨ੍ਨਧਿਯਃ - sad at heart; ਹਿ ਬਾਲਕਾਃ - indeed the boys; ਸਮਾਯਯੁਃ- - came back; ਯੁਕ੍ਤਮ੍-ਇਦਂ ਹਿ - befitting this (behaviour) indeed; ਯਜ੍ਵਸੁ - for ritualists; ਚਿਰਾਤ੍-ਅਭਕ੍ਤਾਃ - for long being undevoted; ਖਲੁ ਤੇ ਮਹੀਸੁਰਾਃ - indeed they the Braahmins; ਕਥਂ ਹਿ - how indeed; ਭਕ੍ਤਂ ਤ੍ਵਯਿ - food to Thee; ਤੈਃ ਸਮਰ੍ਪ੍ਯਤੇ - by them be offered;

Translation
The boys came back, saddened at heart at being ignored thus. But such an indifferent behaviour was quite expected of such ritualistic Braahmins. Indeed for long they were not devoted to Thee so how was it possible that they would offer food to Thee?

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਨਿਵੇਦਯਧ੍ਵਂ ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਿਣੀਜਨਾਯ ਮਾਂ
ਦਿਸ਼ੇਯੁਰਨ੍ਨਂ ਕਰੁਣਾਕੁਲਾ ਇਮਾਃ ।
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਮਿਤਾਰ੍ਦ੍ਰਂ ਭਵਤੇਰਿਤਾ ਗਤਾ-
ਸ੍ਤੇ ਦਾਰਕਾ ਦਾਰਜਨਂ ਯਯਾਚਿਰੇ ॥5॥

Meaning
ਨਿਵੇਦਯਧ੍ਵਂ - announce; ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਿਣੀਜਨਾਯ - to the housewives; ਮਾਮ੍ - me; ਦਿਸ਼ੇਯੁਃ-ਅਨ੍ਨਂ - will give food; ਕਰੁਣਾਕੁਲਾਃ-ਇਮਾਃ - compassion driven these (women); ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਮਿਤ-ਆਰ੍ਦ੍ਰਮ੍ - thus smiling softly; ਭਵਤਾ-ਈਰਿਤਾਃ - by Thee being said; ਗਤਾਃ-ਤੇ ਦਾਰਕਾਃ - went they (those) boys; ਦਾਰਜਨਂ ਯਯਾਚਿਰੇ - the wives requested;

Translation
Thou told the boys to go and announce Thy arrival to the housewives. Thou smilingly told them that those women were full of compassion and that they would give food. Thus being told the boys went to the housewives and requested them.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹੀਤਨਾਮ੍ਨਿ ਤ੍ਵਯਿ ਸਂਭ੍ਰਮਾਕੁਲਾ-
ਸ਼੍ਚਤੁਰ੍ਵਿਧਂ ਭੋਜ੍ਯਰਸਂ ਪ੍ਰਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹ੍ਯ ਤਾਃ ।
ਚਿਰਂਧ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਤ੍ਵਤ੍ਪ੍ਰਵਿਲੋਕਨਾਗ੍ਰਹਾਃ
ਸ੍ਵਕੈਰ੍ਨਿਰੁਦ੍ਧਾ ਅਪਿ ਤੂਰ੍ਣਮਾਯਯੁਃ ॥6॥

Meaning
ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹੀਤ-ਨਾਮ੍ਨਿ ਤ੍ਵਯਿ - (when) Thy name was taken; ਸਂਭ੍ਰਮ-ਆਕੁਲਾਃ- - in great excitement (and) who were eager (to see Thee); ਚਤੁਰ੍ਵਿਧਂ ਭੋਜ੍ਯ-ਰਸਂ - four types of food; ਪ੍ਰਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹ੍ਯ-ਤਾਃ - taking they; ਚਿਰਂ-ਧ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ-ਤ੍ਵਤ੍- - for long holding Thy; ਪ੍ਰਵਿਲੋਕਨ-ਆਗ੍ਰਹਾਃ - sight's desire; ਸ੍ਵਕੈਃ-ਨਿਰੁਦ੍ਧਾਃ ਅਪਿ - by kith and kin being prevented even; ਤੂਰ੍ਣਮ੍-ਆਯਯੁਃ - quickly came;

Translation
As Thy name was mentioned by the boys, the women who were eager to see Thee were very excited. They quickly came to Thee carrying with them four types food. For long they were holding a desire to see Thee, so in spite of being forbidden by their kith and kin, they came quickly.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਵਿਲੋਲਪਿਂਛਂ ਚਿਕੁਰੇ ਕਪੋਲਯੋਃ
ਸਮੁਲ੍ਲਸਤ੍ਕੁਂਡਲਮਾਰ੍ਦ੍ਰਮੀਕ੍ਸ਼ਿਤੇ ।
ਨਿਧਾਯ ਬਾਹੁਂ ਸੁਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਂਸਸੀਮਨਿ
ਸ੍ਥਿਤਂ ਭਵਂਤਂ ਸਮਲੋਕਯਂਤ ਤਾਃ ॥7॥

Meaning
ਵਿਲੋਲ-ਪਿਂਛਂ - quivering peacock feather; ਚਿਕੁਰੇ ਕਪੋਲਯੋਃ - in the hair, on the two cheeks; ਸਮੁਲ੍ਲਸਤ੍- - glowing; ਕੁਂਡਲਮ੍- - earrings; ਆਰ੍ਦ੍ਰਮ੍-ਈਕ੍ਸ਼ਿਤੇ - kindly glance; ਨਿਧਾਯ ਬਾਹੁਂ - placing hand; ਸੁਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ੍-ਅਂਸ-ਸੀਮਨਿ - on friend's shoulder; ਸ੍ਥਿਤਂ ਭਵਂਤਂ - standing (thus) Thee; ਸਮਲੋਕਯਂਤ ਤਾਃ - joyfully saw they (the women);

Translation
The peacock feather was quivering in the locks of Thy hair. Thy two cheeks were glowing with the reflection of the earrings. Thy hand was placed on the shoulder of Thy friend. The women joyfully saw Thee standing in this manner in front of them.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਤਦਾ ਚ ਕਾਚਿਤ੍ਤ੍ਵਦੁਪਾਗਮੋਦ੍ਯਤਾ
ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹੀਤਹਸ੍ਤਾ ਦਯਿਤੇਨ ਯਜ੍ਵਨਾ ।
ਤਦੈਵ ਸਂਚਿਂਤ੍ਯ ਭਵਂਤਮਂਜਸਾ
ਵਿਵੇਸ਼ ਕੈਵਲ੍ਯਮਹੋ ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਿਨ੍ਯਸੌ ॥8॥

Meaning
ਤਦਾ ਚ ਕਾਚਿਤ੍- - and then one of them; ਤ੍ਵਤ੍-ਉਪਾਗਮ- - Thee coming near to; ਉਦ੍ਯਤਾ ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹੀਤ-ਹਸ੍ਤਾ - eager, caught by the hand; ਦਯਿਤੇਨ ਯਜ੍ਵਨਾ - by (her) husband (who was) a ritualistic Braahmin; ਤਦਾ-ਏਵ - then only; ਸਂਚਿਂਤ੍ਯ - meditated deeply; ਭਵਂਤਮ੍-ਅਂਜਸਾ - on Thee, easily; ਵਿਵੇਸ਼ ਕੈਵਲ੍ਯਮ੍- - entered oneness (with Thee); ਅਹੋ - what a wonder; ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਿਨੀ-ਅਸੌ - very fortunate (was) this one;

Translation
And then, one of them who was eager to come near Thee, was held back by hand by her ritualistic husband. Thus being deterred, she meditated deeply on Thee. O What a wonder! This fortunate one easily entered oneness with Thee, there and then.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਆਦਾਯ ਭੋਜ੍ਯਾਨ੍ਯਨੁਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹ੍ਯ ਤਾਃ ਪੁਨ-
ਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਦਂਗਸਂਗਸ੍ਪ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਯੋਜ੍ਝਤੀਰ੍ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਮ੍ ।
ਵਿਲੋਕ੍ਯ ਯਜ੍ਞਾਯ ਵਿਸਰ੍ਜਯਨ੍ਨਿਮਾ-
ਸ਼੍ਚਕਰ੍ਥ ਭਰ੍ਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਨਪਿ ਤਾਸ੍ਵਗਰ੍ਹਣਾਨ੍ ॥9॥

Meaning
ਆਦਾਯ ਭੋਜ੍ਯਾਨਿ- - taking food offerings; ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹ੍ਯ ਤਾਃ - blessing them (the women); ਪੁਨਃ - again; ਤ੍ਵਤ੍-ਅਂਗ- - Thy physical; ਸਂਗ-ਸ੍ਪ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਯਾ- - contact desiring; ਉਜ੍ਝਤੀਃ ਗ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਹਮ੍ - (and so) abandoning the house; ਵਿਲੋਕ੍ਯ ਯਜ੍ਞਾਯ - seeing, for the rituals; ਵਿਸਰ੍ਜਯਨ੍- - sending back; ਇਮਾਃ-ਚਕਰ੍ਥ - these women, Thou did; ਭਰ੍ਤ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਨ-ਅਪਿ - the husbands also; ਤਾਸੁ-ਅਗਰ੍ਹਣਾਨ੍ - in them (for their wives) had no hard feelings;

Translation
Accepting their offerings for food, Thou blessed them. They were always desirous of having physical contact with Thee and so abandoned their houses. Seeing this, Thou sent them back to conduct the Yagya rituals properly. Thou also rendered their husbands free from any ill feelings towards them.

ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਨਿਰੂਪ੍ਯ ਦੋਸ਼ਂ ਨਿਜਮਂਗਨਾਜਨੇ
ਵਿਲੋਕ੍ਯ ਭਕ੍ਤਿਂ ਚ ਪੁਨਰ੍ਵਿਚਾਰਿਭਿਃ
ਪ੍ਰਬੁਦ੍ਧਤਤ੍ਤ੍ਵੈਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮਭਿਸ਼੍ਟੁਤੋ ਦ੍ਵਿਜੈ-
ਰ੍ਮਰੁਤ੍ਪੁਰਾਧੀਸ਼ ਨਿਰੁਂਧਿ ਮੇ ਗਦਾਨ੍ ॥10॥

Meaning
ਨਿਰੂਪ੍ਯ - realising; ਦੋਸ਼ਂ ਨਿਜਮ੍- - mistake (their) own; ਅਂਗਨਾਜਨੇ - (and) in the women folk; ਵਿਲੋਕ੍ਯ ਭਕ੍ਤਿਂ - seeing devotion; ਚ ਪੁਨਃ- - and again; ਵਿਚਾਰਿਭਿਃ - by the thinking ones; ਪ੍ਰਬੁਦ੍ਧ-ਤਤ੍ਤ੍ਵੈਃ- - who had understood the reality; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍-ਅਭਿਸ਼੍ਟੁਤਃ - Thou were praised; ਦ੍ਵਿਜੈਃ- - by the Braahmins; ਮਰੁਤ੍ਪੁਰਾਧੀਸ਼ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ਨਿਰੁਂਧਿ ਮੇ ਗਦਾਨ੍ - eradicate my sufferings;

Translation
The Braahmins realized their own mistake. They also recognized the great devotion of their wives. Those of them who reflected thus and then understood the Reality sang Thy praises. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Eradicate my sufferings.
