ਯਤ੍ਤੇਹਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਯਮਾਣਾਯ ਵਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਾਮਿ ਹਿਤਕਾਮ੍ਯਯਾ ॥ 1 ॥

ਸ਼੍ਰੀ-ਭਗਵਾਨ੍ ਉਵਾਚ — Bhagavan Sri Krishna said; ਭੂਯਃ — again; ਏਵ — certainly; ਮਹਾ-ਬਾਹੋ — O mighty-armed; ਸ਼੍ਰੁਰੁਇਣੁ — just hear; ਮੇ — My; ਪਰਮਮ੍ — supreme; ਵਚਃ — instruction; ਯਤ੍ — that which; ਤੇ — to you; ਅਹਮ੍ — I; ਪ੍ਰੀਯਮਾਣਾਯ — thinking you dear to Me; ਵਕ੍ਸ਼੍ਯਾਮਿ — say; ਹਿਤ-ਕਾਮ੍ਯਯਾ — for your benefit.
Translation
Bhagavan Sri Krishna said: Listen again, O mighty-armed Arjuna. Because you are My dear friend, for your benefit I shall speak to you further, giving knowledge that is better than what I have already explained.

ਨ ਮੇ ਵਿਦੁਃ ਸੁਰਗਣਾਃ ਪ੍ਰਭਵਂ ਨ ਮਹਰ੍ਸ਼ਯਃ ।
ਅਹਮਾਦਿਰ੍ਹਿ ਦੇਵਾਨਾਂ ਮਹਰ੍ਸ਼ੀਣਾਂ ਚ ਸਰ੍ਵਸ਼ਃ ॥ 2 ॥

ਨ — never; ਮੇ — My; ਵਿਦੁਃ — know; ਸੁਰ-ਗਣਾਃ — the demigods; ਪ੍ਰਭਵਮ੍ — origin, opulences; ਨ — never; ਮਹਾ-ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਯਃ — great sages; ਅਹਮ੍ — I am; ਆਦਿਃ — the origin; ਹਿ — certainly; ਦੇਵਾਨਾਮ੍ — of the demigods; ਮਹਾ-ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ੀਣਾਮ੍ — of the great sages; ਚ — also; ਸਰ੍ਵਸ਼ਃ — in all respects.
Translation
Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin or opulences, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and sages.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਯੋ ਮਾਮਜਮਨਾਦਿਂ ਚ ਵੇਤ੍ਤਿ ਲੋਕਮਹੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਮ੍ ।
ਅਸਮ੍ਮੂਢਃ ਸ ਮਰ੍ਤ੍ਯੇਸ਼ੁ ਸਰ੍ਵਪਾਪੈਃ ਪ੍ਰਮੁਚ੍ਯਤੇ ॥ 3 ॥
Meaning
ਯਃ — anyone who; ਮਾਮ੍ — Me; ਅਜਮ੍ — unborn; ਅਨਾਦਿਮ੍ — without beginning; ਚ — also; ਵੇਤ੍ਤਿ — knows; ਲੋਕ — of the planets; ਮਹਾ-ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਮ੍ — the supreme master; ਅਸਮ੍ਮੂਢਃ — undeluded; ਸਃ — he; ਮਰ੍ਤ੍ਯੇਸ਼ੁ — among those subject to death; ਸਰ੍ਵ-ਪਾਪੈਃ — from all sinful reactions; ਪ੍ਰਮੁਚ੍ਯਤੇ — is delivered.
Translation
He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginningless, as the Supreme Lord of all the worlds – he only, undeluded among men, is freed from all sins.

ਬੁਦ੍ਧਿਰ੍ਜ੍ਞਾਨਮਸਮ੍ਮੋਹਃ ਕ੍ਸ਼ਮਾ ਸਤ੍ਯਂ ਦਮਃ ਸ਼ਮਃ ।
ਸੁਖਂ ਦੁਃਖਂ ਭਵੋਭਾਵੋ ਭਯਂ ਚਾਭਯਮੇਵ ਚ ॥ 4 ॥
ਅਹਿਂਸਾ ਸਮਤਾ ਤੁਸ਼੍ਟਿਸ੍ਤਪੋ ਦਾਨਂ ਯਸ਼ੋਯਸ਼ਃ ।
ਭਵਂਤਿ ਭਾਵਾ ਭੂਤਾਨਾਂ ਮਤ੍ਤ ਏਵ ਪ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਥਗ੍ਵਿਧਾਃ ॥ 5 ॥

Translation
Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from doubt and delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, control of the senses, control of the mind, happiness and distress, birth, death, fear, fearlessness, nonviolence, equanimity, satisfaction, austerity, charity, fame and infamy – all these various qualities of living beings are created by Me alone.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਮਹਰ੍ਸ਼ਯਃ ਸਪ੍ਤ ਪੂਰ੍ਵੇ ਚਤ੍ਵਾਰੋ ਮਨਵਸ੍ਤਥਾ ।
ਮਦ੍ਭਆਵਾ ਮਾਨਸਾ ਜਾਤਾ ਯੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਇਮਾਃ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਃ ॥ 6 ॥
Meaning
ਮਹਾ-ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਯਃ — the great sages; ਸਪ੍ਤ — seven; ਪੂਰ੍ਵੇ — before; ਚਤ੍ਵਾਰਃ — four; ਮਨਵਃ — Manus; ਤਥਾ — also; ਮਤ੍-ਭਾਵਾਃ — born of Me; ਮਾਨਸਾਃ — from the mind; ਜਾਤਾਃ — born; ਯੇਸ਼ਾਮ੍ — of them; ਲੋਕੇ — in the world; ਇਮਾਃ — all this; ਪ੍ਰਜਾਃ — population.
Translation
The seven great sages and before them the four other great sages and the Manus [progenitors of mankind] come from Me, born from My mind, and all the living beings populating the various planets descend from them.

ਏਤਾਂ ਵਿਭੂਤਿਂ ਯੋਗਂ ਚ ਮਮ ਯੋ ਵੇਤ੍ਤਿ ਤਤ੍ਤ੍ਵਤਃ ।
ਸੋਵਿਕਲ੍ਪੇਨ ਯੋਗੇਨ ਯੁਜ੍ਯਤੇ ਨਾਤ੍ਰ ਸਂਸ਼ਯਃ ॥ 7 ॥

ਏਤਾਮ੍ — all this; ਵਿਭੂਤਿਮ੍ — opulence; ਯੋਗਮ੍ — mystic power; ਚ — also; ਮਮ — of Mine; ਯਃ — anyone who; ਵੇਤ੍ਤਿ — knows; ਤਤ੍ਤ੍ਵਤਃ — factually; ਸਃ — he; ਅਵਿਕਲ੍ਪੇਨ — without division; ਯੋਗੇਨ — in devotional service; ਯੁਜ੍ਯਤੇ — is engaged; ਨ — never; ਅਤ੍ਰ — here; ਸਂਸ਼ਯਃ — doubt.
Translation
One who is factually convinced of this opulence and mystic power of Mine engages in unalloyed devotional service; of this there is no doubt.

ਅਹਂ ਸਰ੍ਵਸ੍ਯ ਪ੍ਰਭਵੋ ਮਤ੍ਤਃ ਸਰ੍ਵਂ ਪ੍ਰਵਰ੍ਤਤੇ ।
ਇਤਿ ਮਤ੍ਵਾ ਭਜਂਤੇ ਮਾਂ ਬੁਧਾ ਭਾਵਸਮਨ੍ਵਿਤਾਃ ॥ 8 ॥
Meaning
ਅਹਮ੍ — I; ਸਰ੍ਵਸ੍ਯ — of all; ਪ੍ਰਭਵਃ — the source of generation; ਮਤ੍ਤਃ — from Me; ਸਰ੍ਵਮ੍ — everything; ਪ੍ਰਵਰ੍ਤਤੇ — emanates; ਇਤਿ — thus; ਮਤ੍ਵਾ — knowing; ਭਜਂਤੇ — become devoted; ਮਾਮ੍ — unto Me; ਬੁਧਾਃ — the learned; ਭਾਵ-ਸਮਨ੍ਵਿਤਾਃ — with great attention.
Translation
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਮਚ੍ਚਿਤ੍ਤਾ ਮਦ੍ਗਤਪ੍ਰਾਣਾ ਬੋਧਯਂਤਃ ਪਰਸ੍ਪਰਮ੍ ।
ਕਥਯਂਤਸ਼੍ਚ ਮਾਂ ਨਿਤ੍ਯਂ ਤੁਸ਼੍ਯਂਤਿ ਚ ਰਮਂਤਿ ਚ ॥ 9 ॥
Meaning
ਮਤ੍-ਚਿਤ੍ਤਾਃ — their minds fully engaged in Me; ਮਤ੍-ਗਤ-ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਃ — their lives devoted to Me; ਬੋਧਯਂਤਃ — preaching; ਪਰਸ੍ਪਰਮ੍ — among themselves; ਕਥਯਂਤਃ — talking; ਚ — also; ਮਾਮ੍ — about Me; ਨਿਤ੍ਯਮ੍ — perpetually; ਤੁਸ਼੍ਯਂਤਿ — become pleased; ਚ — also; ਰਮਂਤਿ — enjoy transcendental bliss; ਚ — also.
Translation
The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me.

ਤੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਸਤਤਯੁਕ੍ਤਾਨਾਂ ਭਜਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਪੂਰ੍ਵਕਮ੍ ।
ਦਦਾਮਿ ਬੁਦ੍ਧਿਯੋਗਂ ਤਂ ਯੇਨ ਮਾਮੁਪਯਾਂਤਿ ਤੇ ॥ 10 ॥
Meaning
ਤੇਸ਼ਾਮ੍ — unto them; ਸਤਤ-ਯੁਕ੍ਤਾਨਾਮ੍ — always engaged; ਭਜਤਾਮ੍ — in rendering devotional service; ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ-ਪੂਰ੍ਵਕਮ੍ — in loving ecstasy; ਦਦਾਮਿ — I give; ਬੁਦ੍ਧਿ-ਯੋਗਮ੍ — real intelligence; ਤਮ੍ — that; ਯੇਨ — by which; ਮਾਮ੍ — unto Me; ਉਪਯਾਂਤਿ — come; ਤੇ — they.
Translation
To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.

ਤੇਸ਼ਾਮੇਵਾਨੁਕਂਪਾਰ੍ਥਮਹਮਜ੍ਞਾਨਜਂ ਤਮਃ ।
ਨਾਸ਼ਯਾਮ੍ਯਾਤ੍ਮਭਾਵਸ੍ਥੋ ਜ੍ਞਾਨਦੀਪੇਨ ਭਾਸ੍ਵਤਾ ॥ 11 ॥

ਤੇਸ਼ਾਮ੍ — for them; ਏਵ — certainly; ਅਨੁਕਂਪਾ-ਅਰ੍ਥਮ੍ — to show special mercy; ਅਹਮ੍ — I; ਅਜ੍ਞਾਨ-ਜਮ੍ — due to ignorance; ਤਮਃ — darkness; ਨਾਸ਼ਯਾਮਿ — dispel; ਆਤ੍ਮ-ਭਾਵ — within their hearts; ਸ੍ਥਃ — situated; ਜ੍ਞਾਨ — of knowledge; ਦੀਪੇਨ — with the lamp; ਭਾਸ੍ਵਤਾ — glowing.
Translation
To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.

ਅਸਿਤੋ ਦੇਵਲੋ ਵ੍ਯਾਸਃ ਸ੍ਵਯਂ ਚੈਵ ਬ੍ਰਵੀਸ਼ਿ ਮੇ ॥ 13 ॥

Translation
Arjuna said: You are the ultimate abode, the purest, the Absolute Truth. You are the eternal, transcendental, original person, the unborn, the greatest. All the great sages such as Nārada, Asita, Devala and Vyāsa confirm this truth about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਸਰ੍ਵਮੇਤਦ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਂ ਮਨ੍ਯੇ ਯਨ੍ਮਾਂ ਵਦਸਿ ਕੇਸ਼ਵ ।
ਨ ਹਿ ਤੇ ਭਗਵਨ੍ਵ੍ਯਕ੍ਤਿਂ ਵਿਦੁਰ੍ਦੇਵਾ ਨ ਦਾਨਵਾਃ ॥ 14 ॥

Translation
O Kriṣṇa, I totally accept as truth all that You have told me. Neither the demigods nor the demons, O Lord, can understand Your personality.

ਭੂਤਭਾਵਨ ਭੂਤੇਸ਼ ਦੇਵਦੇਵ ਜਗਤ੍ਪਤੇ ॥ 15 ॥

ਸ੍ਵਯਮ੍ — personally; ਏਵ — certainly; ਆਤ੍ਮਨਾ — by Yourself; ਆਤ੍ਮਾਨਮ੍ — Yourself; ਵੇਤ੍ਥ — know; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ — You; ਪੁਰੁਸ਼-ਉਤ੍ਤਮ — O greatest of all persons; ਭੂਤ-ਭਾਵਨ — O origin of everything; ਭੂਤ-ਈਸ਼ — O Lord of everything; ਦੇਵ-ਦੇਵ — O Lord of all demigods; ਜਗਤ੍-ਪਤੇ — O Lord of the entire universe.

Indeed, You alone know Yourself by Your own internal potency, O Supreme Person, origin of all, Lord of all beings, God of gods, Lord of the universe!

ਵਕ੍ਤੁਮਰ੍ਹਸ੍ਯਸ਼ੇਸ਼ੇਣ ਦਿਵ੍ਯਾ ਹ੍ਯਾਤ੍ਮਵਿਭੂਤਯਃ ।

O Kriṣṇa, O supreme mystic, how shall I constantly think of You, and how shall I know You? In what various forms are You to be remembered, O Supreme Personality of Godhead?

Translation
O Janārdana, again please describe in detail the mystic power of Your opulences. I am never satiated in hearing about You, for the more I hear the more I want to taste the nectar of Your words.

Translation
I am also the gambling of cheats, and of the splendid I am the splendor. I am victory, I am adventure, and I am the strength of the strong.

ਵ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼੍ਣੀਨਾਮ੍ — of the descendants of Vriṣṇi; ਵਾਸੁਦੇਵਃ — Kriṣṇa in Dvārakā; ਅਸ੍ਮਿ — I am; ਪਾਂਡਵਾਨਾਮ੍ — of the Pāṇḍavas; ਧਨਮ੍-ਜਯਃ — Arjuna; ਮੁਨੀਨਾਮ੍ — of the sages; ਅਪਿ — also; ਅਹਮ੍ — I am; ਵ੍ਯਾਸਃ — Vyāsa, the compiler of all Vedic literature; ਕਵੀਨਾਮ੍ — of all great thinkers; ਉਸ਼ਨਾ — Uśanā; ਕਵਿਃ — the thinker.
Translation
Of the descendants of Vriṣṇi I am Vāsudeva, and of the Pāṇḍavas I am Arjuna. Of the sages I am Vyāsa, and among great thinkers I am Uśanā.

ਦਂਡਃ — punishment; ਦਮਯਤਾਮ੍ — of all means of suppression; ਅਸ੍ਮਿ — I am; ਨੀਤਿਃ — morality; ਅਸ੍ਮਿ — I am; ਜਿਗੀਸ਼ਤਾਮ੍ — of those who seek victory; ਮੌਨਮ੍ — silence; ਚ — and; ਏਵ — also; ਅਸ੍ਮਿ — I am; ਗੁਹ੍ਯਾਨਾਮ੍ — of secrets; ਜ੍ਞਾਨਮ੍ — knowledge; ਜ੍ਞਾਨ-ਵਤਾਮ੍ — of the wise; ਅਹਮ੍ — I am.
Translation
Among all means of suppressing lawlessness I am punishment, and of those who seek victory I am morality. Of secret things I am silence, and of the wise I am the wisdom.

ਯਤ੍ — whatever; ਚ — also; ਅਪਿ — may be; ਸਰ੍ਵ-ਭੂਤਾਨਾਮ੍ — of all creations; ਬੀਜਮ੍ — seed; ਤਤ੍ — that; ਅਹਮ੍ — I am; ਅਰ੍ਜੁਨ — O Arjuna; ਨ — not; ਤਤ੍ — that; ਅਸ੍ਤਿ — there is; ਵਿਨਾ — without; ਯਤ੍ — which; ਸ੍ਯਾਤ੍ — exists; ਮਯਾ — Me; ਭੂਤਮ੍ — created being; ਚਰ-ਅਚਰਮ੍ — moving and nonmoving.
Translation
Furthermore, O Arjuna, I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being – moving or nonmoving – that can exist without Me.

ਨਾਂਤੋਸ੍ਤਿ ਮਮ ਦਿਵ੍ਯਾਨਾਂ ਵਿਭੂਤੀਨਾਂ ਪਰਂਤਪ ।
ਏਸ਼ ਤੂਦ੍ਦੇਸ਼ਤਃ ਪ੍ਰੋਕ੍ਤੋ ਵਿਭੂਤੇਰ੍ਵਿਸ੍ਤਰੋ ਮਯਾ ॥ 40 ॥

ਨ — nor; ਅਂਤਃ — a limit; ਅਸ੍ਤਿ — there is; ਮਮ — My; ਦਿਵ੍ਯਾਨਾਮ੍ — of the divine; ਵਿਭੂਤੀਨਾਮ੍ — opulences; ਪਰਮ੍-ਤਪ — O conqueror of the enemies; ਏਸ਼ਃ — all this; ਤੁ — but; ਉਦ੍ਦੇਸ਼ਤਃ — as examples; ਪ੍ਰੋਕ੍ਤਃ — spoken; ਵਿਭੂਤੇਃ — of opulences; ਵਿਸ੍ਤਰਃ — the expanse; ਮਯਾ — by Me.
Translation
O mighty conqueror of enemies, there is no end to My divine manifestations. What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of My infinite opulences.

ਯਦ੍ਯਦ੍ਵਿਭੂਤਿਮਤ੍ਸਤ੍ਤ੍ਵਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੀਮਦੂਰ੍ਜਿਤਮੇਵ ਵਾ ।
ਤਤ੍ਤਦੇਵਾਵਗਚ੍ਛ ਤ੍ਵਂ ਮਮ ਤੇਜੋਸ਼ਸਂਭਵਮ੍ ॥ 41 ॥

ਯਤ੍ ਯਤ੍ — whatever; ਵਿਭੂਤਿ — opulences; ਮਤ੍ — having; ਸਤ੍ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ — existence; ਸ਼੍ਰੀ-ਮਤ੍ — beautiful; ਊਰ੍ਜਿਤਮ੍ — glorious; ਏਵ — certainly; ਵਾ — or; ਤਤ੍ ਤਤ੍ — all those; ਏਵ — certainly; ਅਵਗਚ੍ਚ — must know; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍ — you; ਮਮ — My; ਤੇਜਃ — of the splendor; ਅਂਸ਼ — a part; ਸਂਭਵਮ੍ — born of.
Translation
Know that all opulent, beautiful and glorious creations spring from but a spark of My splendor.

ਅਥਵਾ ਬਹੁਨੈਤੇਨ ਕਿਂ ਜ੍ਞਾਤੇਨ ਤਵਾਰ੍ਜੁਨ ।

ਅਥ ਵਾ — or; ਬਹੁਨਾ — many; ਏਤੇਨ — by this kind; ਕਿਮ੍ — what; ਜ੍ਞਾਤੇਨ — by knowing; ਤਵ — your; ਅਰ੍ਜੁਨ — O Arjuna; ਵਿਸ਼੍ਟਭ੍ਯ — pervading; ਅਹਮ੍ — I; ਇਦਮ੍ — this; ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ੍ਸ੍ਨਮ੍ — entire; ਏਕ — by one; ਅਂਸ਼ੇਨ — part; ਸ੍ਥਿਤਃ — am situated; ਜਗਤ੍ — universe.
Translation
But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.
