ਤ੍ਰਿਦਿਵਵਰ੍ਧਕਿਵਰ੍ਧਿਤਕੌਸ਼ਲਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਦਸ਼ਦਤ੍ਤਸਮਸ੍ਤਵਿਭੂਤਿਮਤ੍ ।
ਜਲਧਿਮਧ੍ਯਗਤਂ ਤ੍ਵਮਭੂਸ਼ਯੋ ਨਵਪੁਰਂ ਵਪੁਰਂਚਿਤਰੋਚਿਸ਼ਾ ॥1॥
Meaning
ਤ੍ਰਿਦਿਵ-ਵਰ੍ਧਕਿ- - heaven's architect; ਵਰ੍ਧਿਤ-ਕੌਸ਼ਲਂ - excelling the skill; ਤ੍ਰਿਦਸ਼-ਦਤ੍ਤ- - by the gods given; ਸਮਸ੍ਤ-ਵਿਭੂਤਿਮਤ੍ - all the majesties; ਜਲਧਿ-ਮਧ੍ਯਗਤਂ - in the ocean's middle situated; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍-ਅਭੂਸ਼ਯਃ - Thou adorned; ਨਵ-ਪੁਰਂ - the new city; ਵਪੁਃ-ਅਂਚਿਤ- - by Thy form's marked; ਰੋਚਿਸ਼ਾ - resplendence;
Translation
Even though Vishwakarmaa, the divine architect had employed all his excellent skills in building it and the gods had lavished all their divine embellishments on the city, which was situated in the middle of the ocean, it was adorned by the marked resplendence of Thy form.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਦਦੁਸ਼ਿ ਰੇਵਤਭੂਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਿ ਰੇਵਤੀਂ ਹਲਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤੇ ਤਨਯਾਂ ਵਿਧਿਸ਼ਾਸਨਾਤ੍ ।
ਮਹਿਤਮੁਤ੍ਸਵਘੋਸ਼ਮਪੂਪੁਸ਼ਃ ਸਮੁਦਿਤੈਰ੍ਮੁਦਿਤੈਃ ਸਹ ਯਾਦਵੈਃ ॥2॥

ਦਦੁਸ਼ਿ - (when) was given; ਰੇਵਤ-ਭੂਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਿ - by the Revata king; ਰੇਵਤੀਂ ਹਲਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤੇ - Revatee for Balaraam; ਤਨਯਾਂ - the daughter; ਵਿਧਿ-ਸ਼ਾਸਨਾਤ੍ - by Brahmaa's instructions; ਮਹਿਤਮ੍-ਉਤ੍ਸਵ- - great festive; ਘੋਸ਼ਮ੍-ਅਪੂਪੁਸ਼ਃ - celebration was performed by Thee; ਸਮੁਦਿਤੈਃ-ਮੁਦਿਤੈਃ - who had gathered happily; ਸਹ ਯਾਦਵੈਃ - with the Yaadavas;
Translation
At the instructions of Brahmaa, the king of Revata gave his daughter Revatee in marriage to Balaraam. On this event with all the Yaadavaas, who had assembled, Thou happily performed a great festive celebration.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਥ ਵਿਦਰ੍ਭਸੁਤਾਂ ਖਲੁ ਰੁਕ੍ਮਿਣੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਣਯਿਨੀਂ ਤ੍ਵਯਿ ਦੇਵ ਸਹੋਦਰਃ ।
ਸ੍ਵਯਮਦਿਤ੍ਸਤ ਚੇਦਿਮਹੀਭੁਜੇ ਸ੍ਵਤਮਸਾ ਤਮਸਾਧੁਮੁਪਾਸ਼੍ਰਯਨ੍ ॥3॥
Meaning
ਅਥ ਵਿਦਰ੍ਭ-ਸੁਤਾਂ - then, king of Vidarbh's (Bheeshmaka's) daughter; ਖਲੁ ਰੁਕ੍ਮਿਣੀਂ - indeed Rukmini; ਪ੍ਰਣਯਿਨੀਂ ਤ੍ਵਯਿ - in love with Thee; ਦੇਵ ਸਹੋਦਰਃ - O Lord! Her brother; ਸ੍ਵਯਮ੍-ਅਦਿਤ੍ਸਤ - of his own will decided to give; ਚੇਦਿ-ਮਹੀਭੁਜੇ - to the Chedi king (Shishupaal); ਸ੍ਵ-ਤਮਸਾ - because of his Tamas guna, ignorance; ਤਮ੍-ਅਸਾਧੁਮ੍- - him the non virtuous; ਉਪਾਸ਼੍ਰਯਨ੍ - having made him a friend;
Translation
The daughter of the king of Vidarbh (Bheeshmaka), Rukmini was indeed in love with Thee. O Lord! Her brother,Rukmi, due to his ignorance caused by his Tamas guna, of his own will resolved to give her to the Chedi king Shishupaal. Rukmi had made friends with Shishupaal who was totally non virtuous.

ਚਿਰਧ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਪ੍ਰਣਯਾ ਤ੍ਵਯਿ ਬਾਲਿਕਾ ਸਪਦਿ ਕਾਂਕ੍ਸ਼ਿਤਭਂਗਸਮਾਕੁਲਾ ।
ਤਵ ਨਿਵੇਦਯਿਤੁਂ ਦ੍ਵਿਜਮਾਦਿਸ਼ਤ੍ ਸ੍ਵਕਦਨਂ ਕਦਨਂਗਵਿਨਿਰ੍ਮਿਤਮ੍ ॥4॥
Meaning
ਚਿਰ-ਧ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ-ਪ੍ਰਣਯਾ - for long holding love; ਤ੍ਵਯਿ ਬਾਲਿਕਾ - for Thee, the girl; ਸਪਦਿ - at once; ਕਾਂਕ੍ਸ਼ਿਤ-ਭਂਗ- - (her) desire being broken; ਸਮਾਕੁਲਾ - (foreseeing) and distressed; ਤਵ ਨਿਵੇਦਯਿਤੁਮ੍ - to Thee, to communicate; ਦ੍ਵਿਜਮ੍-ਆਦਿਸ਼ਤ੍ - a Braahmin instructed; ਸ੍ਵ-ਕਦਨਂ - her distress; ਕਦਨ-ਅਂਗ- - the cruel Cupid; ਵਿਨਿਰ੍ਮਿਤਮ੍ - caused by;
Translation
For a long time holding love for Thee, which was brought about by the cruel Cupid, the girl at once instructed a Brahmin to acquaint Thee of her distress by the immanent threat to the fulfillment of her desire,
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਦ੍ਵਿਜਸੁਤੋਪਿ ਚ ਤੂਰ੍ਣਮੁਪਾਯਯੌ ਤਵ ਪੁਰਂ ਹਿ ਦੁਰਾਸ਼ਦੁਰਾਸਦਮ੍ ।
ਮੁਦਮਵਾਪ ਚ ਸਾਦਰਪੂਜਿਤਃ ਸ ਭਵਤਾ ਭਵਤਾਪਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਾ ਸ੍ਵਯਮ੍ ॥5॥
Meaning
ਦ੍ਵਿਜ-ਸੁਤਃ-ਅਪਿ - the Brahmin boy also; ਚ ਤੂਰ੍ਣਮ੍-ਉਪਾਯਯੌ - and soon reached; ਤਵ ਪੁਰਂ ਹਿ - Thy city indeed; ਦੁਰਾਸ਼-ਦੁਰਾਸਦਂ - for the wicked inaccessible; ਮੁਦਮ੍-ਅਵਾਪ ਚ - and great joy attained; ਸਾਦਰ-ਪੂਜਿਤਃ - with the honour received; ਸ ਭਵਤਾ - he (was) by Thee; ਭਵ-ਤਾਪ-ਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਾ - (who are) from worldly afflictions, the remover; ਸ੍ਵਯਮ੍ - Thyself;
Translation
The Brahmin boy soon reached Thy city which is inaccessible to wicked minded people. He was highly delighted and attained great joy on being received with honour by Thyself the remover of the worldly travails and afflictions of men.

ਸ ਚ ਭਵਂਤਮਵੋਚਤ ਕੁਂਡਿਨੇ ਨ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪਸੁਤਾ ਖਲੁ ਰਾਜਤਿ ਰੁਕ੍ਮਿਣੀ ।
ਤ੍ਵਯਿ ਸਮੁਤ੍ਸੁਕਯਾ ਨਿਜਧੀਰਤਾਰਹਿਤਯਾ ਹਿ ਤਯਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਤੋਸ੍ਮ੍ਯਹਮ੍ ॥6॥

ਸ ਚ - he and; ਭਵਂਤਮ੍-ਅਵੋਚਤ - to Thee said; ਕੁਂਡਿਨੇ - in Kundina; ਨ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪ-ਸੁਤਾ ਖਲੁ - the king's daughter indeed; ਰਾਜਤਿ ਰੁਕ੍ਮਿਣੀ - shines Rukmini; ਤ੍ਵਯਿ ਸਮੁਤ੍ਸੁਕਯਾ - in Thee deeply in love; ਨਿਜ-ਧੀਰਤਾ-ਰਹਿਤਯਾ - her own restrain loosing; ਹਿ ਤਯਾ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਤਃ- - indeed by her sent; ਅਸ੍ਮਿ-ਅਹਮ੍ - am I;
Translation
And he said to Thee 'In Kundinaa (capital of Vidarbha) lives the noble princess Rukmini. She is deeply in love with Thee. She who has lost her own restrain has indeed sent me here.'

ਤਵ ਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਾਸ੍ਮਿ ਪੁਰੈਵ ਗੁਣੈਰਹਂ ਹਰਤਿ ਮਾਂ ਕਿਲ ਚੇਦਿਨ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪੋਧੁਨਾ ।
ਅਯਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪਾਲਯ ਪਾਲਯ ਮਾਮਿਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਜਗਦੇ ਜਗਦੇਕਪਤੇ ਤਯਾ ॥7॥
Meaning
ਤਵ ਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤਾ-ਅਸ੍ਮਿ - by Thee captivated am I; ਪੁਰਾ-ਏਵ - since long even; ਗੁਣੈਃ-ਅਹਂ - by (Thy) excellences, I; ਹਰਤਿ ਮਾਂ ਕਿਲ - capturing me indeed is; ਚੇਦਿ-ਨ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪਃ-ਅਧੁਨਾ - the Chedi king now; ਅਯਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪਾਲਯ (ਕ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪਾ-ਆਲਯ) - O Abode of Compassion!; ਪਾਲਯ ਮਾਮ੍-ਇਤਿ - save me, thus; ਪ੍ਰਜਗਦੇ - was prayed; ਜਗਦੇਕਪਤੇ (ਜਗਤ੍-ਏਕ-ਪਤੇ) - O Lord of the worlds!; ਤਯਾ - by her;
Translation
From long since I am a captive of Thy excellences. Now the king of Chedi (Shishupaal) is going to captivate me. O Abode of Compassion! Save me.' O Lord of the worlds! Thus she prayed to Thee.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਸ਼ਰਣਾਂ ਯਦਿ ਮਾਂ ਤ੍ਵਮੁਪੇਕ੍ਸ਼ਸੇ ਸਪਦਿ ਜੀਵਿਤਮੇਵ ਜਹਾਮ੍ਯਹਮ੍ ।
ਇਤਿ ਗਿਰਾ ਸੁਤਨੋਰਤਨੋਤ੍ ਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਂ ਸੁਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਯਂ ਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਯਂ ਤਵ ਕਾਤਰਮ੍ ॥8॥
Meaning
ਅਸ਼ਰਣਾਮ੍ - helpless; ਯਦਿ ਮਾਂ - if me; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍-ਉਪੇਕ੍ਸ਼ਸੇ - Thou forsake; ਸਪਦਿ ਜੀਵਿਤਮ੍-ਏਵ - soon life itself; ਜਹਾਮਿ-ਅਹਮ੍ - will kill I; ਇਤਿ ਗਿਰਾ ਸੁਤਨੋਃ- - these words of the fair one; ਅਤਨੋਤ੍ ਭ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਸ਼ਂ - brought about deep; ਸੁਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਤ੍-ਅਯਂ - by this good hearted (Braahmin); ਹ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਦਯਂ ਤਵ ਕਾਤਰਮ੍ - (in) heart Thy agitation;
Translation
If Thou will forsake me, the helpless one, I will certainly end my life soon.' This massage of the fair Rukmini from the good hearted Braahmin, brought about deep agitation in Thy heart.
ਸ਼੍ਲੋਕਃ
ਅਕਥਯਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮਥੈਨਮਯੇ ਸਖੇ ਤਦਧਿਕਾ ਮਮ ਮਨ੍ਮਥਵੇਦਨਾ ।
ਨ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪਸਮਕ੍ਸ਼ਮੁਪੇਤ੍ਯ ਹਰਾਮ੍ਯਹਂ ਤਦਯਿ ਤਾਂ ਦਯਿਤਾਮਸਿਤੇਕ੍ਸ਼ਣਾਮ੍ ॥9॥
Meaning
ਅਕਥਯਃ- - told; ਤ੍ਵਮ੍-ਅਥ-ਏਨਮ੍- - Thou then to him; ਅਯੇ ਸਖੇ - O friend!; ਤਤ੍-ਅਧਿਕਾ - more than her; ਮਮ ਮਨ੍ਮਥ-ਵੇਦਨਾ - (are) my love pangs; ਨ੍ਰੁਰੁਇਪ ਸਮਕ੍ਸ਼ਮ੍- - in the front of the kings; ਉਪੇਤ੍ਯ ਹਰਾਮਿ-ਅਹਂ - coming there will take away I; ਤਤ੍-ਅਯਿ ਤਾਂ - so it is, O (friend), that; ਦਯਿਤਾਮ੍-ਅਸਿਤ-ਈਕ੍ਸ਼ਣਾਮ੍ - dear dark eyed one;
Translation
Thou then told him, 'O friend! My love pangs are more intense than hers. Therefore, I will come, and in presence of the kings, take away the dear dark eyed one.'

ਪ੍ਰਮੁਦਿਤੇਨ ਚ ਤੇਨ ਸਮਂ ਤਦਾ ਰਥਗਤੋ ਲਘੁ ਕੁਂਡਿਨਮੇਯਿਵਾਨ੍ ।
ਗੁਰੁਮਰੁਤ੍ਪੁਰਨਾਯਕ ਮੇ ਭਵਾਨ੍ ਵਿਤਨੁਤਾਂ ਤਨੁਤਾਂ ਨਿਖਿਲਾਪਦਾਮ੍ ॥10॥
Meaning
ਪ੍ਰਮੁਦਿਤੇਨ ਚ - and with the delighted; ਤੇਨ ਸਮਂ ਤਦਾ - with him then; ਰਥ-ਗਤਃ ਲਘੁ - getting into the chariot immediately; ਕੁਂਡਿਨਮ੍-ਏਯਿਵਾਨ੍ - to Kundina (Thou) reached; ਗੁਰੁਮਰੁਤ੍ਪੁਰਨਾਯਕ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ਮੇ ਭਵਾਨ੍ - of me, Thou; ਵਿਤਨੁਤਾਂ ਤਨੁਤਾਂ - deign to bring about relief; ਨਿਖਿਲ-ਆਪਦਾਮ੍ - from all my afflictions;
Translation
O Lord of Guruvaayur! Along with the highly delighted Braahmin, Thou immediately got into the chariot and soon reached Kundina. May Thou deign to bring about relief for me from all my afflictions.
