શ્લોકઃ
તદનુ નંદમમંદશુભાસ્પદં નૃપપુરીં કરદાનકૃતે ગતમ્।
સમવલોક્ય જગાદ ભવત્પિતા વિદિતકંસસહાયજનોદ્યમઃ ॥1॥
Meaning
તદનુ નંદમ્- - after that to Nanda; અમંદ-શુભ-આસ્પદમ્ - (who is) of non dimmed virtues the abode; નૃપ-પુરીમ્ - to the king's city; કર-દાન-કૃતે ગતમ્ - to pay his tributes (taxes), who had gone; સમવલોક્ય - seeing (meeting); જગાદ ભવત્-પિતા - said (to Nanda), Thy father (Vasudeva); વિદિત-કંસ- - who knew of Kansa's; સહાયજન-ઉદ્યમઃ - and Kansa's supporters' activities;
Translation
Thereafter, Nanda (who is the abode of undiminished virtues), went to the king's city to pay his tributes (taxes). On meeting him, Thy father Vasudeva who knew of the activities of Kansa and his supporters, told him that.
શ્લોકઃ
અયિ સખે તવ બાલકજન્મ માં સુખયતેઽદ્ય નિજાત્મજજન્મવત્ ।
ઇતિ ભવત્પિતૃતાં વ્રજનાયકે સમધિરોપ્ય શશંસ તમાદરાત્ ॥2॥
Meaning
અયિ સખે - O friend!; તવ બાલક જન્મ - to you a son's birth; માં-સુખયતે-અદ્ય - gives me pleasure now; નિજ-આત્મજ-જન્મવત્ - my own son's birth like; ઇતિ ભવત્-પિતૃતાં - thus Thy fatherhood; વ્રજનાયકે સમધિરોપ્ય - to the cowherd chief, (he cleverly) attributed; શશંસ તમ્-આદરાત્ - and praised him with affection;
Translation
"O Friend! The birth of a son to you gives me pleasure as if a son were born to myself." Thus he cleverly attributed Thy fatherhood on Nanda, and praised him with affection.
શ્લોકઃ
ઇહ ચ સંત્યનિમિત્તશતાનિ તે કટકસીમ્નિ તતો લઘુ ગમ્યતામ્ ।
ઇતિ ચ તદ્વચસા વ્રજનાયકો ભવદપાયભિયા દ્રુતમાયયૌ ॥3॥
Meaning
ઇહ ચ સંતિ- - and here there are; અનિમિત્ત-શતાનિ - bad omens in hundreds; તે કટક-સીમ્નિ - at your residence; તતઃ લઘુ ગમ્યતામ્ - therefore soon (you) should go; ઇતિ ચ તત્-વચસા - and thus, by his (Vaudeva's) words; વ્રજનાયકઃ - the cowherd chieftain (Nandagopa); ભવત્-અપાય-ભિયા - to Thee danger apprehending; દ્રુતમ્-આયયૌ - quickly returned;
Translation
"Here there are bad omens in hundreds and soon at your residence also it will not be safe, so you should return soon". Thus by Vasudeva's words, apprehending danger to Thee, Nanda quickly returned.
શ્લોકઃ
અવસરે ખલુ તત્ર ચ કાચન વ્રજપદે મધુરાકૃતિરંગના ।
તરલષટ્પદલાલિતકુંતલા કપટપોતક તે નિકટં ગતા ॥4॥
Meaning
અવસરે ખલુ તત્ર ચ - at that time, indeed, and there; કાચન વ્રજપદે - some (female) in Gokula; મધુર-આકૃતિઃ-અંગના - beautiful looking woman; તરલ-ષટ્પદ- - (with) hovering bees; લાલિત-કુંતલા - around (her) locks of hair (due to the sweet smell); કપટ-પોતક - (O Thou) in the guise of a child!; તે નિકટં ગતા - went near Thee;
Translation
Just then there in Gokula, some beautiful looking woman with honey bees hovering around the sweet smelling flowers in her hair locks, entered. O Thou! In the guise of a child, she approached Thee.
શ્લોકઃ
સપદિ સા હૃતબાલકચેતના નિશિચરાન્વયજા કિલ પૂતના ।
વ્રજવધૂષ્વિહ કેયમિતિ ક્ષણં વિમૃશતીષુ ભવંતમુપાદદે ॥5॥
Meaning
સપદિ સા - quickly she; હૃત-બાલક-ચેતના - who had taken the children' lives; નિશિચર-અન્વય-જા - of demon clan born; કિલ પૂતના - indeed Pootanaa; વ્રજ-વધૂષુ-ઇહ - among the Vraja women here; કા-ઇયમ્-ઇતિ - who is this, thus; ક્ષણં વિમૃશતીષુ - for a moment wondering; ભવંતમ્-ઉપાદદે - Thee lifted up (in her arms);
Translation
Quickly she, Pootanaa, born in the clan of demons, who had taken the lives of many children, lifted Thee up, even as the Vraja women were for a second wondering as to who she was.
શ્લોકઃ
લલિતભાવવિલાસહૃતાત્મભિર્યુવતિભિઃ પ્રતિરોદ્ધુમપારિતા ।
સ્તનમસૌ ભવનાંતનિષેદુષી પ્રદદુષી ભવતે કપટાત્મને ॥5॥
Meaning
લલિત-ભાવ-વિલાસ- - by her charming appearance and graceful movements; હૃત-આત્મભિઃ-યુવતિભિઃ - with captivated minds, the young women; પ્રતિરોદ્ધુમ્-અપારિતા - to deter (stop) not being able; સ્તનમ્-અસૌ - her breasts this (Pootanaa); ભવન-અંત-નિષેદુષી - inside the house sitting; પ્રદદુષી ભવતે - gave (her breasts) to Thee; કપટ-આત્મને - the illusive child;
Translation
Her charming appearance and graceful movements captivated the minds of the Gopis who were unable to stop her from making advances. So this Pootanaa took her seat inside the house as she applied Thee, the illusive child, to her breasts.
શ્લોકઃ
સમધિરુહ્ય તદંકમશંકિતસ્ત્વમથ બાલકલોપનરોષિતઃ ।
મહદિવામ્રફલં કુચમંડલં પ્રતિચુચૂષિથ દુર્વિષદૂષિતમ્ ॥7॥
Meaning
સમધિરુહ્ય તત્-અંકમ્- - climbing in her lap; અશંકિતઃ-ત્વમ્-અથ - unhesitatingly Thou then; બાલક-લોપન-રોષિતઃ - by the children' killing angered; મહત્-ઇવ-આમ્ર-ફલમ્ - huge, as if it were a mango fruit; કુચ-મંડલં પ્રતિ-ચુચૂષિથ - the breast, sucked well; દુર્વિષ-દૂષિતમ્ - with strong poison smeared;
Translation
Thou who were angered by her killing of the children, unhesitatingly climbed in her lap and sucked well her poison smeared breasts as if it were a huge mango fruit.
શ્લોકઃ
અસુભિરેવ સમં ધયતિ ત્વયિ સ્તનમસૌ સ્તનિતોપમનિસ્વના ।
નિરપતદ્ભયદાયિ નિજં વપુઃ પ્રતિગતા પ્રવિસાર્ય ભુજાવુભૌ ॥8॥
Meaning
અસુભિઃ-એવ સમમ્ - her life breath along with; ધયતિ ત્વયિ સ્તનમ્- - sucking (when) Thou were the breast; અસૌ સ્તનિત-ઉપમ-નિસ્વના - this Pootanaa, with thunder like noise; નિરપતત્- - fell down; ભયદાયિ નિજં વપુઃ - ferocious her own body; પ્રતિગતા - reverting to; પ્રવિસાર્ય ભુજૌ-ઉભૌ - out stretching both the hands;
Translation
Thou sucked the breast along with her life force. This Pootanaa fell down with a thunder like noise reverting to her natural ferocious body with both hands stretching out.
શ્લોકઃ
ભયદઘોષણભીષણવિગ્રહશ્રવણદર્શનમોહિતવલ્લવે ।
વ્રજપદે તદુરઃસ્થલખેલનં નનુ ભવંતમગૃહ્ણત ગોપિકાઃ ॥9॥
Meaning
ભયદ-ઘોષણ- - the terrifying sound; ભીષણ-વિગ્રહ- - and the frightful form; શ્રવણ-દર્શન- - hearing and seeing; મોહિત-વલ્લવે - (which) stunned the gopas; વ્રજપદે - and (the whole of) Gokul; તત્-ઉદરઃ-સ્થલ- - on her chest; ખેલનં નનુ - playing indeed; ભવંતમ્-અગૃહ્ણત - Thee picked up; ગોપિકાઃ - the Gopis;
Translation
The whole of Gokul stood stunned hearing the terrifying sound and seeing the frightful form. The Gopis picked Thee up even as Thou were playing on the chest of the dead demoness.
શ્લોકઃ
ભુવનમંગલનામભિરેવ તે યુવતિભિર્બહુધા કૃતરક્ષણઃ ।
ત્વમયિ વાતનિકેતનનાથ મામગદયન્ કુરુ તાવકસેવકમ્ ॥10॥
Meaning
ભુવન-મંગલ- - O Thou who confers auspiciousness on the world!; નામભિઃ-એવ તે - by Thy name alone; યુવતિભિઃ-બહુધા - by the young women, in various ways; કૃતરક્ષણઃ ત્વમ્-અયિ - Thou were protected, O Thou!; વાતનિકેતનનાથ - Lord of Guruvaayur!; મામ્-અગદયન્ - making me devoid of ailments; કુરુ તાવક-સેવકમ્ - make me Thy devotee;
Translation
O Thou! Who confers auspiciousness on to the world, the young women protected Thee in various ways with chanting Thy names alone. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Making me devoid of my ailments, make me Thy devotee.
