ત્વયિ વિહરણલોલે બાલજાલૈઃ પ્રલંબ-
પ્રમથનસવિલંબે ધેનવઃ સ્વૈરચારાઃ ।
તૃણકુતુકનિવિષ્ટા દૂરદૂરં ચરંત્યઃ
કિમપિ વિપિનમૈષીકાખ્યમીષાંબભૂવુઃ ॥1॥
Meaning
ત્વયિ વિહરણ-લોલે - (when) Thou (were) engaged in playing; બાલ-જાલૈઃ - with the boys' group; પ્રલંબ-પ્રમથન- - in the Pralambaasura killing; સવિલંબે - (and) were delayed; ધેનવઃ સ્વૈર-ચારાઃ - the cows of their own will; તૃણ-કુતુક-નિવિષ્ટા - eager to eat grass; દૂર-દૂરં ચરંત્યઃ - far and far moving; કિમપિ વિપિનમ્- - (to) some forest; ઐષીક-આખ્યમ્- - Aishika (also a grass) named; ઈષાં બભૂવુઃ - came near;
Translation
As Thou were engaged in playing with the group of boys and were held up in the destruction of Pralambaasura, the cows moved far ahead in their eagerness to eat grass. They reached a nearby forest named Aishika.

અનધિગતનિદાઘક્રૌર્યવૃંદાવનાંતાત્
બહિરિદમુપયાતાઃ કાનનં ધેનવસ્તાઃ ।
તવ વિરહવિષણ્ણા ઊષ્મલગ્રીષ્મતાપ-
પ્રસરવિસરદંભસ્યાકુલાઃ સ્તંભમાપુઃ ॥2॥
Meaning
અનધિગત - (which was) not felt; નિદાઘ-ક્રૌર્યં- - the summer heat cruel (intensity); વૃંદાવન-અંતાત્ - at Vrindaavana's outer end; બહિઃ-ઇદમ્-ઉપયાતાઃ - outside this (who had) reached; કાનનં ધેનવઃ-તાઃ - the forest, those cows; તવ વિરહ-વિષણ્ણા - (by) Thy separation tormented; ઊષ્મલ-ગ્રીષ્મ-તાપ- - (and) the intensely hot the summer heat; પ્રસર-વિસરત્- - increasing and spreading; અંભસ્ય-આકુલાઃ - for want of water suffering; સ્તંભમ્-આપુઃ - motionless became;
Translation
The cruel summer heat was not felt in the Vrindaavana forest. But when the cows reached the outskirts of the forest, they were tormented by the intensely hot summer heat which was increasing and spreading. Exhausted by the heat and for the want of water and also out of grief at the separation from Thee, they stood stunned and motionless.

તદનુ સહ સહાયૈર્દૂરમન્વિષ્ય શૌરે
ગલિતસરણિમુંજારણ્યસંજાતખેદમ્ ।
પશુકુલમભિવીક્ષ્ય ક્ષિપ્રમાનેતુમારા-
ત્ત્વયિ ગતવતિ હી હી સર્વતોઽગ્નિર્જજૃંભે ॥3॥
Meaning
તદનુ સહ સહાયૈઃ- - then with Thy helpers; દૂરમ્-અન્વિષ્ય - till far searching; શૌરે - O Krishna; ગલિત-સરણિ- - loosing the way; મુંજ-અરણ્ય- - (reaching) the Munja forest; સઞાત-ખેદમ્ - overcome by exhaustion; પશુકુલમ્-અભિવીક્ષ્ય - the cattle seeing; ક્ષિપ્રમ્-આનેતુમ્- - quickly to bring; આરાત્-ત્વયિ ગતવતિ - near (when) Thou went; હી હી સર્વતઃ- - alas, alas, all around; અગ્નિ;-જજૃંભે - a fire broke out;
Translation
O Krishna! Along with Thy mates, Thou ventured far in search of the cattle and having lost the way, Thou reached the Munja forest. There Thou discovered the cows standing in distress and as Thou were nearing them to bring them back, alas a wild fire broke out and spread.

સકલહરિતિ દીપ્તે ઘોરભાંકારભીમે
શિખિનિ વિહતમાર્ગા અર્ધદગ્ધા ઇવાર્તાઃ ।
અહહ ભુવનબંધો પાહિ પાહીતિ સર્વે
શરણમુપગતાસ્ત્વાં તાપહર્તારમેકમ્ ॥4॥
Meaning
સકલ-હરિતિ દીપ્તે - (when) all the directions were blazing; ઘોર-ભાંકાર-ભીમે - (with) terrific roars frightening; શિખિનિ - the fire; વિહત-માર્ગા - obstructed the ways; અર્ધ-દગ્ધાઃ - half burnt; ઇવ-આર્તાઃ - like tormented; અહહ ભુવનબંધો - O Friend of all!; પાહિ પાહિ-ઇતિ - save, save us, thus; સર્વે શરણમ્-ઉપગતાઃ- - all of them took refuge; ત્વાં તાપ-હર્તારમ્-એકમ્ - in Thee, from all sorrows the saviour, the Only One;
Translation
All the directions were blazing with the outrageous fire and its terrific frightening roars. All the escape routes were obstructed and all the boys and cows were so tormented as if they were half burnt. They all took refuge in Thee who are a friend of all and called Thee saying, ' O The Only One saviour from all sorrows , save us, save us.'

અલમલમતિભીત્યા સર્વતો મીલયધ્વં
દૃશમિતિ તવ વાચા મીલિતાક્ષેષુ તેષુ ।
ક્વ નુ દવદહનોઽસૌ કુત્ર મુંજાટવી સા
સપદિ વવૃતિરે તે હંત ભાંડીરદેશે ॥5॥
Meaning
અલમ્-અલમ્- - enough enough; અતિ-ભીત્યા - of so much fright; સર્વતઃ મીલયધ્વં - all of you close; દૃશમ્-ઇતિ - the eyes, thus; તવ વાચા - by Thy words; મીલિત-અક્ષેષુ - (when they) had closed the eyes; તેષુ ક્વ નુ - when they, where indeed (was); દવ-દહનઃ-અસૌ - forest fire that; કુત્ર મુંજા-અટવી સા - where (was) Munja forest that; સપદિ વવૃતિરે તે - at once found themselves they; હંત ભાંડીર-દેશે - how wonderful, in Bhaandeera land;
Translation
Enough, enough of so much fright. Let all completely close their eyes.' Thus on Thy instruction when they had all closed their eyes, where indeed was the forest fire and where was the Munja forest? They instantly found themselves in the Bhaandeera area inside Vrindaavana. How wonderful!

જય જય તવ માયા કેયમીશેતિ તેષાં
નુતિભિરુદિતહાસો બદ્ધનાનાવિલાસઃ ।
પુનરપિ વિપિનાંતે પ્રાચરઃ પાટલાદિ-

Meaning
જય જય - hail hail; તવ માયા - Thy mysterious ways; કા-ઇયમ્ - what is it; ઈશ- - O Lord; ઇતિ તેષાં - thus by them (the cowherds); નુતિભિઃ-ઉદિતહાસઃ - being praised, smilingly; બદ્ધ-નાના-વિલાસઃ - in various ways sporting; પુનઃ-અપિ - again also; વિપિન-અંતે - in the forest's end; પ્રાચરઃ પાટલાદિ- - Thou roamed about, (where) the Paatala etc; પ્રસવ-નિકર- - (flowers) blooming in bunches; માત્ર-ગ્રાહ્ય- - (were the) only indication; ઘર્મ-અનુભાવે - summer season's presence;
Translation
Hail, hail, Thy mysterious ways, unfathomable, O Lord!' Thus Thou were smilingly praised by them. Thou continued to roam about and sport in various ways, where the Paatala flowers blooming in bunches, were the only indication of the presence of the summer season.

ત્વયિ વિમુખમિવોચ્ચૈસ્તાપભારં વહંતં
તવ ભજનવદંતઃ પંકમુચ્છોષયંતમ્ ।
તવ ભુજવદુદંચદ્ભૂરિતેજઃપ્રવાહં
તપસમયમનૈષીર્યામુનેષુ સ્થલેષુ ॥7॥
Meaning
ત્વયિ વિમુખમ્- - (when) unto Thee, (one is) indifferent; ઇવ-ઉચ્ચૈઃ- - like that, very intense; તાપભારં વહંતમ્ - the weight of heat, carrying; તવ ભજન-વદંતઃ - Thy praises speaking (worshipping); પંકમ્- - the mud/slush; ઉચ્છોષયંતમ્ - drying up; તવ ભુજ-વત્- - Thy two arms like; ઉદંચત્- - emitting; ભૂરિ-તેજ-પ્રવાહં - a great brilliance flow; તપ-સમયમ્- - the summer time; અનૈષીઃ - Thou spend; યામુનેષુ સ્થલેષુ - on the Yamunaa banks;
Translation
The intense heat of the summer time was like the weight of the heat of passion that people carry in their minds who are indifferent to Thee. It was like the heat which is created by worshipping Thee, which dries up all the mud and slush of Thy devotees. It was like the brilliance flowing from Thy two arms. Such a summer time Thou spent on the banks of the river Yamunaa.

Meaning
તદનુ જલદ-જાલૈઃ- - then with the cloud clusters; ત્વત્-વપુઃ- - Thy body; તુલ્ય-ભાભિઃ- - like splendorous; વિકસત્-અમલ- - shining pure; વિદ્યુત્-પીતવાસઃ- - lightening (like Thy) yellow garment; વિલાસૈઃ - beautifully; સકલ-ભુવન-ભાજાં - (to) all the world's inhabitants; હર્ષદાં વર્ષવેલાં - joy giving, the rainy season; ક્ષિતિધર-કુહરેષુ - (in) the mountain caves; સ્વૈરવાસી વ્યનૈષીઃ - at will residing Thou spend;
Translation
Then, the clusters of clouds in the rainy season were like the hue of Thy splendorous body, the lightening shining was like the luster of Thy beautiful yellow garment. It gave joy to all the inhabitants of the world. Such a rainy season Thou spent, sporting at will, in the caves of the mountain (Govardhana).

Meaning
કુહરતલ-નિવિષ્ટં - in the caves residing; ત્વાં ગરિષ્ઠં - to Thee, the highly honoured; ગિરીંદ્રઃ - the mountain; શિખિ-કુલ- - the peacocks'; નવ-કેકા- - pleasant cooings; કાકુભિઃ સ્તોત્રકારી - as hymns praising; સ્ફુટ-કુટજ-કદંબ- - blooming Kutaja and Kadamba; સ્તોમ-પુષ્પાંજલિં ચ - heaps and as flower offerings; પ્રવિદધત્-અનુભેજે - performing worship; દેવ - O Lord! (To Thee); ગોવર્ધનઃ-અસૌ - Govardhana this, (the mountain);
Translation
O Lord! To Thee, the highly honoured One, living in its caves, the mountain king (Govardhana) extended its hospitality. It sang hymns of Thy praise in the form of the pleasant cooings of the peacocks. It worshipped Thee in the form of offering heaps of fully bloomed Kutaja and Kadamba flowers falling from the branches at Thy feet.

અથ શરદમુપેતાં તાં ભવદ્ભક્તચેતો-
વિમલસલિલપૂરાં માનયન્ કાનનેષુ ।
તૃણમમલવનાંતે ચારુ સંચારયન્ ગાઃ
પવનપુરપતે ત્વં દેહિ મે દેહસૌખ્યમ્ ॥10॥
Meaning
અથ શરદમ્-ઉપેતાં - then spring season approaching; તાં ભવત્-ભક્ત-ચેતઃ- - that (season) (like) Thy devotees' mind; વિમલ-સલિલ-પૂરાં - with pure water full; માનયન્ કાનનેષુ - enjoying in the forests; તૃણમ્-અમલ-વનાંતે - grass in the pleasant forest; ચારુ સંચારયન્ ગાઃ - happily grazing the cows; પવનપુરપતે - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ત્વં દેહિ - Thou bestow; મે દેહ-સૌખ્યમ્ - unto me good health;
Translation
Then the spring season approached. In that season the streams were full of pure water, like the pure minds of Thy devotees. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Thou spent such a season enjoying in the forests and happily grazing grass to the cattle in the pleasant forests. O Thou! bestow unto me good health.
