பூ⁴ய ஏவ மஹாபா³ஹோ ஶருணு மே பரமம் வச: ।
யத்தேஹம் ப்ரீயமாணாய வக்ஷ்யாமி ஹிதகாம்யயா ॥ 1 ॥
Meaning
ஶ்ரீ-ப⁴க³வான் உவாச — Bhagavan Sri Krishna said; பூ⁴ய: — again; ஏவ — certainly; மஹா-பா³ஹோ — O mighty-armed; ஶ்ருணு — just hear; மே — My; பரமம் — supreme; வச: — instruction; யத் — that which; தே — to you; அஹம் — I; ப்ரீயமாணாய — thinking you dear to Me; வக்ஷ்யாமி — say; ஹித-காம்யயா — for your benefit.
Translation
Bhagavan Sri Krishna said: Listen again, O mighty-armed Arjuna. Because you are My dear friend, for your benefit I shall speak to you further, giving knowledge that is better than what I have already explained.
ஶ்லோக:
ந மே விது³: ஸுரக³ணா: ப்ரப⁴வம் ந மஹர்ஷய: ।
அஹமாதி³ர்ஹி தே³வானாம் மஹர்ஷீணாம் ச ஸர்வஶ: ॥ 2 ॥
Meaning

Translation
Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin or opulences, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and sages.

யோ மாமஜமனாதி³ம் ச வேத்தி லோகமஹேஶ்வரம் ।
அஸம்மூட:⁴ ஸ மர்த்யேஷு ஸர்வபாபை: ப்ரமுச்யதே ॥ 3 ॥
Meaning
ய: — anyone who; மாம் — Me; அஜம் — unborn; அனாதி³ம் — without beginning; ச — also; வேத்தி — knows; லோக — of the planets; மஹா-ஈஶ்வரம் — the supreme master; அஸம்மூட:⁴ — undeluded; ஸ: — he; மர்த்யேஷு — among those subject to death; ஸர்வ-பாபை: — from all sinful reactions; ப்ரமுச்யதே — is delivered.
Translation
He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginningless, as the Supreme Lord of all the worlds – he only, undeluded among men, is freed from all sins.

பு³த்³தி⁴ர்ஜ்ஞானமஸம்மோஹ: க்ஷமா ஸத்யம் த³ம: ஶம: ।
ஸுக²ம் து³:க²ம் ப⁴வோபா⁴வோ ப⁴யம் சாப⁴யமேவ ச ॥ 4 ॥
அஹிம்ஸா ஸமதா துஷ்டிஸ்தபோ தா³னம் யஶோயஶ: ।

Translation
Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from doubt and delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, control of the senses, control of the mind, happiness and distress, birth, death, fear, fearlessness, nonviolence, equanimity, satisfaction, austerity, charity, fame and infamy – all these various qualities of living beings are created by Me alone.
ஶ்லோக:
மஹர்ஷய: ஸப்த பூர்வே சத்வாரோ மனவஸ்ததா² ।
மத்³ப⁴ஆவா மானஸா ஜாதா யேஷாம் லோக இமா: ப்ரஜா: ॥ 6 ॥
Meaning
மஹா-ருஷய: — the great sages; ஸப்த — seven; பூர்வே — before; சத்வார: — four; மனவ: — Manus; ததா² — also; மத்-பா⁴வா: — born of Me; மானஸா: — from the mind; ஜாதா: — born; யேஷாம் — of them; லோகே — in the world; இமா: — all this; ப்ரஜா: — population.
Translation
The seven great sages and before them the four other great sages and the Manus [progenitors of mankind] come from Me, born from My mind, and all the living beings populating the various planets descend from them.
ஶ்லோக:
ஏதாம் விபூ⁴திம் யோக³ம் ச மம யோ வேத்தி தத்த்வத: ।
ஸோவிகல்பேன யோகே³ன யுஜ்யதே நாத்ர ஸம்ஶய: ॥ 7 ॥
Meaning

Translation
One who is factually convinced of this opulence and mystic power of Mine engages in unalloyed devotional service; of this there is no doubt.

அஹம் ஸர்வஸ்ய ப்ரப⁴வோ மத்த: ஸர்வம் ப்ரவர்ததே ।
இதி மத்வா பஜ⁴ந்தே மாம் பு³தா⁴ பா⁴வஸமன்விதா: ॥ 8 ॥
Meaning
அஹம் — I; ஸர்வஸ்ய — of all; ப்ரப⁴வ: — the source of generation; மத்த: — from Me; ஸர்வம் — everything; ப்ரவர்ததே — emanates; இதி — thus; மத்வா — knowing; பஜ⁴ந்தே — become devoted; மாம் — unto Me; பு³தா⁴: — the learned; பா⁴வ-ஸமன்விதா: — with great attention.
Translation
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.

மச்சித்தா மத்³க³தப்ராணா போ³த⁴யந்த: பரஸ்பரம் ।
கத²யந்தஶ்ச மாம் நித்யம் துஷ்யந்தி ச ரமந்தி ச ॥ 9 ॥
Meaning
மத்-சித்தா: — their minds fully engaged in Me; மத்-க³த-ப்ராணா: — their lives devoted to Me; போ³த⁴யந்த: — preaching; பரஸ்பரம் — among themselves; கத²யந்த: — talking; ச — also; மாம் — about Me; நித்யம் — perpetually; துஷ்யந்தி — become pleased; ச — also; ரமந்தி — enjoy transcendental bliss; ச — also.
Translation
The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me.
ஶ்லோக:
தேஷாம் ஸததயுக்தானாம் பஜ⁴தாம் ப்ரீதிபூர்வகம் ।
த³தா³மி பு³த்³தி⁴யோக³ம் தம் யேன மாமுபயாந்தி தே ॥ 1௦ ॥
Meaning
தேஷாம் — unto them; ஸதத-யுக்தானாம் — always engaged; பஜ⁴தாம் — in rendering devotional service; ப்ரீதி-பூர்வகம் — in loving ecstasy; த³தா³மி — I give; பு³த்³தி⁴-யோக³ம் — real intelligence; தம் — that; யேன — by which; மாம் — unto Me; உபயாந்தி — come; தே — they.
Translation
To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.
ஶ்லோக:
தேஷாமேவானுகம்பார்த²மஹமஜ்ஞானஜம் தம: ।
நாஶயாம்யாத்மபா⁴வஸ்தோ² ஜ்ஞானதீ³பேன பா⁴ஸ்வதா ॥ 11 ॥
Meaning
தேஷாம் — for them; ஏவ — certainly; அனுகம்பா-அர்த²ம் — to show special mercy; அஹம் — I; அஜ்ஞான-ஜம் — due to ignorance; தம: — darkness; நாஶயாமி — dispel; ஆத்ம-பா⁴வ — within their hearts; ஸ்த:² — situated; ஜ்ஞான — of knowledge; தீ³பேன — with the lamp; பா⁴ஸ்வதா — glowing.
Translation
To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.

பரம் ப்³ரஹ்ம பரம் தா⁴ம பவித்ரம் பரமம் ப⁴வான் ।

Translation
Arjuna said: You are the ultimate abode, the purest, the Absolute Truth. You are the eternal, transcendental, original person, the unborn, the greatest. All the great sages such as Nārada, Asita, Devala and Vyāsa confirm this truth about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸர்வமேதத்³ருதம் மன்யே யன்மாம் வத³ஸி கேஶவ ।
ந ஹி தே ப⁴க³வன்வ்யக்திம் விது³ர்தே³வா ந தா³னவா: ॥ 14 ॥
Meaning

Translation
O Kriṣṇa, I totally accept as truth all that You have told me. Neither the demigods nor the demons, O Lord, can understand Your personality.

ஸ்வயமேவாத்மனாத்மானம் வேத்த² த்வம் புருஷோத்தம ।
பூ⁴தபா⁴வன பூ⁴தேஶ தே³வதே³வ ஜக³த்பதே ॥ 15 ॥
Meaning

Indeed, You alone know Yourself by Your own internal potency, O Supreme Person, origin of all, Lord of all beings, God of gods, Lord of the universe!

வக்துமர்ஹஸ்யஶேஷேண தி³வ்யா ஹ்யாத்மவிபூ⁴தய: ।
யாபி⁴ர்விபூ⁴திபி⁴ர்லோகானிமாம்ஸ்த்வம் வ்யாப்ய திஷ்ட²ஸி ॥ 16 ॥

Translation
Please tell me in detail of Your divine opulences by which You pervade all these worlds.

கத²ம் வித்³யாமஹம் யோகி³ம்ஸ்த்வாம் ஸதா³ பரிசிந்தயன் ।
கேஷு கேஷு ச பா⁴வேஷு சிந்த்யோஸி ப⁴க³வன்மயா ॥ 17 ॥

Translation
O Kriṣṇa, O supreme mystic, how shall I constantly think of You, and how shall I know You? In what various forms are You to be remembered, O Supreme Personality of Godhead?

விஸ்தரேணாத்மனோ யோக³ம் விபூ⁴திம் ச ஜனார்த³ன ।
பூ⁴ய: கத²ய த்ருப்திர்ஹி ஶருண்வதோ நாஸ்தி மேம்ருதம் ॥ 18 ॥

Translation
O Janārdana, again please describe in detail the mystic power of Your opulences. I am never satiated in hearing about You, for the more I hear the more I want to taste the nectar of Your words.

Bhagavan Sri Krishna said: Yes, I will tell you of My splendorous manifestations, but only of those which are prominent, O Arjuna, for My opulence is limitless.

இந்த்³ரியாணாம் மனஶ்சாஸ்மி பூ⁴தானாமஸ்மி சேதனா ॥ 22 ॥

புரோத⁴ஸாம் ச முக்²யம் மாம் வித்³தி⁴ பார்த² ப்³ருஹஸ்பதிம் ।
ஸேனானீனாமஹம் ஸ்கந்த:³ ஸரஸாமஸ்மி ஸாக³ர: ॥ 24 ॥

புரோத⁴ஸாம் — of all priests; ச — also; முக்²யம் — the chief; மாம் — Me; வித்³தி⁴ — understand; பார்த² — O son of Prithā; ப்³ருஹஸ்பதிம் — Brihaspati; ஸேனானீனாம் — of all commanders; அஹம் — I am; ஸ்கந்த:³ — Kārttikeya; ஸரஸாம் — of all reservoirs of water; அஸ்மி — I am; ஸாக³ர: — the ocean.
Translation
Of priests, O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Brihaspati. Of generals I am Kārttikeya, and of bodies of water I am the ocean.

மஹர்ஷீணாம் ப்⁴ருகு³ரஹம் கி³ராமஸ்ம்யேகமக்ஷரம் ।
யஜ்ஞானாம் ஜபயஜ்ஞோஸ்மி ஸ்தா²வராணாம் ஹிமாலய: ॥ 25 ॥

Of the great sages I am Bhrigu; of vibrations I am the transcendental oM. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa], and of immovable things I am the Himālayas.

அஶ்வத்த:² ஸர்வவ்ருக்ஷாணாம் தே³வர்ஷீணாம் ச நாரத:³ ।

Of all trees I am the banyan tree, and of the sages among the demigods I am Nārada. Of the Gandharvas I am Citraratha, and among perfected beings I am the sage Kapila.

உச்சை:ஶ்ரவஸமஶ்வானாம் வித்³தி⁴ மாமம்ருதோத்³ப⁴வம் ।
ஐராவதம் கஜ³ேந்த்³ராணாம் நராணாம் ச நராதி⁴பம் ॥ 27 ॥

உச்சை:ஶ்ரவஸம் — Uccaiḥśravā; அஶ்வானாம் — among horses; வித்³தி⁴ — know; மாம் — Me; அம்ருத-உத்³ப⁴வம் — produced from the churning of the ocean; ஐராவதம் — Airāvata; கஜ³-இந்த்³ராணாம் — of lordly elephants; நராணாம் — among human beings; ச — and; நர-அதி⁴பம் — the king.
Translation
Of horses know Me to be Uccaiḥśravā, produced during the churning of the ocean for nectar. Of lordly elephants I am Airāvata, and among men I am the monarch.

ஆயுதா⁴னாமஹம் வஜ்ரம் தே⁴னூனாமஸ்மி காமது⁴க் ।
ப்ரஜனஶ்சாஸ்மி கந்த³ர்ப: ஸர்பாணாமஸ்மி வாஸுகி: ॥ 28 ॥

Of weapons I am the thunderbolt; among cows I am the surabhi. Of causes for procreation I am Kandarpa, the god of love, and of serpents I am Vāsuki.

Translation
Of the many-hooded Nāgas I am Ananta, and among the aquatics I am the demigod Varuṇa. Of departed ancestors I am Aryamā, and among the dispensers of law I am Yama, the lord of death.

Translation
Among the Daitya demons I am the devoted Prahlāda, among subduers I am time, among beasts I am the lion, and among birds I am Garuḍa.

ஜ²ஷாணாம் மகரஶ்சாஸ்மி ஸ்ரோதஸாமஸ்மி ஜாஹ்னவீ ॥ 31 ॥

Translation
Of purifiers I am the wind, of the wielders of weapons I am Rāma, of fishes I am the shark, and of flowing rivers I am the Ganges.

Translation
Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the self, and among logicians I am the conclusive truth.

அக்ஷராணாமகாரோஸ்மி த்³வந்த்³வ: ஸாமாஸிகஸ்ய ச ।
அஹமேவாக்ஷய: காலோ தா⁴தாஹம் விஶ்வதோமுக:² ॥ 33 ॥

Translation
Of letters I am the letter A, and among compound words I am the dual compound. I am also inexhaustible time, and of creators I am Brahmā.

ம்ருத்யு: ஸர்வஹரஶ்சாஹமுத்³ப⁴வஶ்ச ப⁴விஷ்யதாம் ।
கீர்தி: ஶ்ரீர்வாக்ச நாரீணாம் ஸ்ம்ருதிர்மேதா⁴ த்⁴ருதி: க்ஷமா ॥ 34 ॥

Translation
I am all-devouring death, and I am the generating principle of all that is yet to be. Among women I am fame, fortune, fine speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and patience.

Translation
Of the hymns in the Sāma Veda I am the Brihat-sāma, and of poetry I am the Gāyatrī. Of months I am Mārgaśīrṣa [November-December], and of seasons I am flower-bearing spring.

I am also the gambling of cheats, and of the splendid I am the splendor. I am victory, I am adventure, and I am the strength of the strong.

Among all means of suppressing lawlessness I am punishment, and of those who seek victory I am morality. Of secret things I am silence, and of the wise I am the wisdom.

யச்சஆபி ஸர்வபூ⁴தானாம் பீ³ஜம் தத³ஹமர்ஜுன ।
ந தத³ஸ்தி வினா யத்ஸ்யான்மயா பூ⁴தம் சராசரம் ॥ 39 ॥

Translation
Furthermore, O Arjuna, I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being – moving or nonmoving – that can exist without Me.
ஶ்லோக:
நாந்தோஸ்தி மம தி³வ்யானாம் விபூ⁴தீனாம் பரந்தப ।
ஏஷ தூத்³தே³ஶத: ப்ரோக்தோ விபூ⁴தேர்விஸ்தரோ மயா ॥ 4௦ ॥

Translation
O mighty conqueror of enemies, there is no end to My divine manifestations. What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of My infinite opulences.

யத்³யத்³விபூ⁴திமத்ஸத்த்வம் ஶ்ரீமதூ³ர்ஜிதமேவ வா ।
தத்ததே³வாவக³ச்ச² த்வம் மம தேஜோஶஸம்ப⁴வம் ॥ 41 ॥

Translation
Know that all opulent, beautiful and glorious creations spring from but a spark of My splendor.

அத²வா ப³ஹுனைதேன கிம் ஜ்ஞாதேன தவார்ஜுன ।
விஷ்டப்⁴யாஹமித³ம் க்ருத்ஸ்னமேகாம்ஶேன ஸ்தி²தோ ஜக³த் ॥ 42 ॥

Translation
But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.
