ஸம்ப்ராப்தோ மது²ராம் தி³னார்த⁴விக³மே தத்ராந்தரஸ்மின் வஸ-
ந்னாராமே விஹிதாஶன: ஸகி²ஜனைர்யாத: புரீமீக்ஷிதும் ।
ப்ராபோ ராஜபத²ம் சிரஶ்ருதித்⁴ருதவ்யாலோககௌதூஹல-
ஸ்த்ரீபும்ஸோத்³யத³க³ண்யபுண்யனிக³லைராக்ருஷ்யமாணோ நு கிம் ॥1॥
Meaning
ஸம்ப்ராப்த: மது²ராம் - reaching Mathura; தி³ன-அர்த-⁴விக³மே - at the day's half end (noon); தத்ர-அந்தரஸ்மின் - there, just outside (the city); வஸன்-ஆராமே - halting in a garden; விஹித-ஆஶன: - having finished eating food; ஸகி²-ஜனை:-யாத: - with friend folks (Thou) went to; புரீம்-ஈக்ஷிதும் - the city to see (around); ப்ராப: ராஜபத²ம் - (Thou) reached the main road; சிர-ஶ்ருதி-த்⁴ருத- - for long hearing (about Thee, and so) holding; வ்யாலோக-கௌதூஹல- - to see (Thee) the eagerness; ஸ்த்ரீ-பும்ஸ- - women and men; உத்³யத்-அக³ண்ய-புண்ய-னிக³லை:- - (whose) arising innumerable merits (in a) chain (like); ஆக்ருஷ்யமாண: - drawn (towards them); நு கிம் - as if;
Translation
Thou reached Mathura by noon. Having taken Thy lunch in a garden on the outskirts of Mathura, Thou proceeded to see the city with Thy friends, and reached the main road. Thou were drawn as though by a chain formed by the meritorious people of Mathura who had long heard about Thee and were very eager to see Thee in person.

த்வத்பாத³த்³யுதிவத் ஸராக³ஸுப⁴கா³: த்வன்மூர்திவத்³யோஷித:

Meaning
த்வத்-பாத்³-த்³யுதிவத் - Thy feet glow like; ஸராக-³ஸுப⁴கா³: - 1)with reddish tinge beautiful2)with intense love, radiant; த்வத்-மூர்திவத்-யோஷித: - Thy form like, the women; ஸம்ப்ராப்தா: - assembled; விலஸத்-பயோத⁴ர-ருச: - 1) sporting the rain bearing cloud lustre2)having breasts beautiful; லோலா - 1) moving about2) desirous (of seeing Thee); ப⁴வத்-த்³ருஷ்டிவத் - Thy eyes like; ஹாரிண்ய: - 1) wearing necklaces2) attractive; த்வத்-உர:ஸ்த²லீவத்- - Thy chest area like; அயி தே - O Thou! Thy; மந்த்³-ஸ்மித-ப்ரௌடி⁴வத் - mild smile's majesty like; நைர்மல்ய-உல்லஸிதா: - (because of) purity, shining; கசௌக-⁴ருசிவத்- - (Thy) cluster of hair beauty like; ராஜத்-கலாப-ஆஶ்ரிதா: - 1) adorned by peacock feather stuck in them2) adorned by ornaments wearing;
Translation
The women who came to see Thee were similar to Thee in various respects - Thy feet glow with a reddish tinge, they were radiant and glowed with the intense love for Thee. Thou have a lustre of rain bearing clouds, they had beautiful full breasts. Thy eyes always moved about, they had eyes which were always desirous to see Thee. Thy chest is attractive with many necklaces, they were also attractive.Thy mild smile has a majesty of innocence, they had a majesty and they shined due to their purity. Thy cluster of black hair is adorned by a peacock feather stuck in it, their tresses were adorned by wearing ornaments.

தாஸாமாகலயன்னபாங்க³வலனைர்மோத³ம் ப்ரஹர்ஷாத்³பு⁴த-
வ்யாலோலேஷு ஜனேஷு தத்ர ரஜகம் கஞ்சித் படீம் ப்ரார்த²யன் ।
கஸ்தே தா³ஸ்யதி ராஜகீயவஸனம் யாஹீதி தேனோதி³த:
ஸத்³யஸ்தஸ்ய கரேண ஶீர்ஷமஹ்ருதா²: ஸோப்யாப புண்யாம் க³திம் ॥3॥
Meaning
தாஸாம்-ஆகலயன்- - to them (the women) causing; அபாங்க-³வலனை:- - by sidelong glances; மோத³ம் - extreme delight; ப்ரஹர்ஷ-அத்³பு⁴த-வ்யாலோலேஷு - (when) with joy and wonder swaying; ஜனேஷு தத்ர - the people were there; ரஜகம் கஞ்சித் - a washerman some; படீம் ப்ரார்த²யன் - garments (Thou) asking for; க:-தே தா³ஸ்யதி - who to you is going to give; ராஜகீய-வஸனம் - royal robes; யாஹி-இதி - go away', thus; தேன-உதி³த: - by him being said; ஸத்³ய:-தஸ்ய - at once his (head); கரேண ஶீர்ஷம்-அஹ்ருதா²: - by hand head (Thou) cut off; ஸ:-அபி-ஆப - he also attained; புண்யாம் க³திம் - salvation;
Translation
Thy sidelong glances gave intense joy to the women and swayed the populace with joy and wonder. There among the people, Thou asked a washerman for clothes to which he retorted saying 'who is going to give you royal robes, go away.' Thou at once cut off his head with Thy hand, whereby he attained salvation.
ஶ்லோக:
பூ⁴யோ வாயகமேகமாயதமதிம் தோஷேண வேஷோசிதம்
தா³ஶ்வாம்ஸம் ஸ்வபத³ம் நினேத² ஸுக்ருதம் கோ வேத³ ஜீவாத்மனாம் ।
மாலாபி⁴: ஸ்தப³கை: ஸ்தவைரபி புனர்மாலாக்ருதா மானிதோ
ப⁴க்திம் தேன வ்ருதாம் தி³தே³ஶித² பராம் லக்ஷ்மீம் ச லக்ஷ்மீபதே ॥4॥
Meaning
பூ⁴ய: - then thereafter; வாயகம்-ஏகம்- - weaver, one; ஆயத-மதிம் - (who was) broad minded; தோஷேண வேஷ-உசிதம் - with satisfaction, dress suitable; தா³ஶ்வாம்ஸம் ஸ்வபத³ம் - gave, (him to) Thy abode; நினேத² ஸுக்ருதம் - (Thou) did lead, merits; க: வேத³ - who can fathom; ஜீவாத்மனாம் - of embodied souls; மாலாபி⁴: ஸ்தப³கை: - with garlands and bouquets; ஸ்தவை:-அபி - and hymns of praise also; புன:-மாலாக்ருதா - again by a garland maker; மானித: ப⁴க்திம் - honoured, Bhakti; தேன வ்ருதாம் - by him desired; தி³தே³ஶித² - (Thou) gave; பராம் லக்ஷ்மீம் ச - and immense wealth also; லக்ஷ்மீபதே - O Lord of Laxmi!;
Translation
One broad minded weaver gave to Thee suitable clothes and Thou conferred salvation to him. Who other than Thou can fathom the merits of the jivas. O Lord of Laxmi! Again a garland maker who gave Thee garlands and bouquets and also sung hymns of praises was given Bhakti as desired by him, and also immense wealth.

குப்³ஜாமப்³ஜவிலோசனாம் பதி²புனர்த்³ருஷ்ட்வாங்க³ராகே³ தயா
த³த்தே ஸாது⁴ கிலாங்க³ராக³மத³தா³ஸ்தஸ்யா மஹாந்தம் ஹ்ருதி³ ।
சித்தஸ்தா²ம்ருஜுதாமத² ப்ரத²யிதும் கா³த்ரேபி தஸ்யா: ஸ்பு²டம்
க்³ருஹ்ணன் மஞ்ஜு கரேண தாமுத³னயஸ்தாவஜ்ஜக³த்ஸுந்த³ரீம் ॥5॥
Meaning
குப்³ஜாம்-அப்³ஜ-விலோசனாம் - to the hunched backed woman who was lotus eyed; பதி²-புன:-த்³ருஷ்ட்வா- - on the way, then, seeing; அங்க³ராகே³ தயா த³த்தே - and being given unguents by her; ஸாது⁴ கில- - well indeed; அங்க³ - Dear Lord!; ராக³ம்-அத³தா³:- - love (thou) did give; தஸ்யா: மஹாந்தம் - to her intense (love); ஹ்ருதி³ சித்தஸ்தா²ம்- - in heart, which was there in her mind (also); ருஜுதாம்-அத² - that s traightness then; ப்ரத²யிதும் கா³த்ரே-அபி - to manifest in the body also; தஸ்யா: ஸ்பு²டம் க்³ருஹ்ணன் - for her clearly holding; மஞ்ஜு கரேண - with (Thy) beautiful hand; தாம்-உத³னய:-தாவத்- - uplifted her , then; ஜக³த்-ஸுந்த³ரீம் - to the most beautiful woman;
Translation
On the way Thou saw a beautiful woman with lotus eyes but with a hunch back. She presented to Thee sandal paste and other unguents and in return Thou created in her heart an intense love for Thee. Then, in order that her straight forward inner mind be reflected in her outer physical appearance also, Thou gave a gentle pull holding her chin by Thy beautiful hand and thus transformed her into one of the most beautiful women in the world.

தாவன்னிஶ்சிதவைப⁴வாஸ்தவ விபோ⁴ நாத்யந்தபாபா ஜனா
யத்கிஞ்சித்³த³த³தே ஸ்ம ஶக்த்யனுகு³ணம் தாம்பூ³லமால்யாதி³கம் ।
க்³ருஹ்ணான: குஸுமாதி³ கிஞ்சன ததா³ மார்கே³ நிப³த்³தா⁴ஞ்ஜலி-
ர்னாதிஷ்ட²ம் ப³த ஹா யதோத்³ய விபுலாமார்திம் வ்ரஜாமி ப்ரபோ⁴ ॥6॥
Meaning
தாவத் - then; நிஶ்சித-வைப⁴வா:-தவ - those who had acquired full faith in Thy greatness; விபோ⁴ - O Lord!; ந-அத்யந்த-பாபா-ஜனா - and who were not very sinful; யத்-கிஞ்சித்-த³த³தே-ஸ்ம - something or the other were giving (to Thee); ஶக்தி-அனுகு³ணம் - according to their capacity; தாம்பூ³ல-மால்ய-ஆதி³கம் - betel, garlands etc.,; க்³ருஹ்ணான: குஸும-ஆதி³ - carrying flowers etc; கிஞ்சன ததா³ மார்கே³ - some, at that time, in the path; நிப³த்³த-⁴அஞ்ஜலி: - with joined palms (in salutation); ந-அதிஷ்ட²ம் - did not stand (I); ப³த ஹா யத:-அத்³ய - because of which today; விபுலாம்-ஆர்திம் - great sorrow; வ்ரஜாமி ப்ரபோ⁴ - I am experiencing O Lord!;
Translation
O Lord! Then those who were not very sinful and so had acquired full faith in Thy greatness, offered to Thee something or the other according to their capacity, like betel, garlands etc., At that time, in the path, carrying some flowers, alas, I did not stand with joined palms in salutation, because of which, today, I am experiencing great sorrow.
ஶ்லோக:
ஏஷ்யாமீதி விமுக்தயாபி ப⁴க³வன்னாலேபதா³த்ர்யா தயா
தூ³ராத் காதரயா நிரீக்ஷிதக³திஸ்த்வம் ப்ராவிஶோ கோ³புரம் ।
ஆகோ⁴ஷானுமிதத்வதா³க³மமஹாஹர்ஷோல்லலத்³தே³வகீ-
வக்ஷோஜப்ரக³லத்பயோரஸமிஷாத்த்வத்கீர்திரந்தர்க³தா ॥7॥
Meaning
ஏஷ்யாமி-இதி - I shall come thus; விமுக்தயா-அபி - though sent away; ப⁴க³வன்- - O Lord!; ஆலேபதா³த்ர்யா - (by her) who gave Thee unguents; தயா தூ³ராத் - by her from far; காதரயா - disdainfully; நிரீக்ஷித-க³தி:-த்வம் - watching going Thee; ப்ராவிஶ: கோ³புரம் - entered the main gate of the city; ஆகோ⁴ஷ-அனுமித- - from jubilation inferred; த்வத்-ஆக³ம- - Thy coming; மஹா-ஹர்ஷ-உல்லலத்- - the great joy stimulating; தே³வகீ-வக்ஷோஜ- - from Devaki's breasts; ப்ரக³லத்-பயோரஸ- - flowing milk; மிஷாத்- - in the guise of; த்வத்-கீர்தி:- - Thy fame; அந்த:க³தா - went in (the city);
Translation
I will come again', saying so Thou dispersed the woman who had given unguents to Thee, whose gaze followed Thee till as far as Thou could be seen, going away. Then Thou prepared to enter the outer gate of the city (Mathura). Thy coming was preceded by Thy fame which was like Devaki's (Krishna's mother) breast milk stimulated by the jubilation of Thy arrival.

ஆவிஷ்டோ நக³ரீம் மஹோத்ஸவவதீம் கோத³ண்ட³ஶாலாம் வ்ரஜன்
மாது⁴ர்யேண நு தேஜஸா நு புருஷைர்தூ³ரேண த³த்தாந்தர: ।
ஸ்ரக்³பி⁴ர்பூ⁴ஷிதமர்சிதம் வரத⁴னுர்மா மேதி வாதா³த் புர:
ப்ராக்³ருஹ்ணா: ஸமரோபய: கில ஸமாக்ராக்ஷீரபா⁴ங்க்ஷீரபி ॥8॥
Meaning
ஆவிஷ்ட: - (Thou) having entered; நக³ரீம் மஹோத்ஸவவதீம் - the city ready for the festival; கோத³ண்ட³ஶாலாம் வ்ரஜன் - to the hall of the great bow going; மாது⁴ர்யேண நு - whether by charm; தேஜஸா நு - or by Thy majesty,; புருஷை:-தூ³ரேண - by the guards, standing at a distance; த³த்தாந்தர: - and allowing Thee to enter,; ஸ்ரக்³பி⁴:-பூ⁴ஷிதம்- - with garlands adorned; அர்சிதம் வர-த⁴னு:- - and worshipped the great bow; மா மா-இதி - do not do not thus; வாதா³த் புர: - saying, before (that),; ப்ராக்³ருஹ்ணா: - taking hold of and lifting; ஸமரோபய: கில - strung it, indeed; ஸமாக்ராக்ஷீ:- - and drew it; அபா⁴ங்க்ஷீ:-அபி - and broke it also;
Translation
Having entered the festive city Thou proceeded to the hall of the great bow. Charmed by Thy majesty, the people stood at a distance and the guards too gave way to Thee to enter. The great bow lay there decorated with flower garlands and worshipped. Before the guards or the caretakers admonished Thee saying 'No no" Thou took hold of the bow, lifted it up, strung it, drew it and also broke it.

ஶ்வ: கம்ஸக்ஷபணோத்ஸவஸ்ய புரத: ப்ராரம்ப⁴தூர்யோபம-
ஶ்சாபத்⁴வம்ஸமஹாத்⁴வனிஸ்தவ விபோ⁴ தே³வானரோமாஞ்சயத் ।
கம்ஸஸ்யாபி ச வேபது²ஸ்தது³தி³த: கோத³ண்ட³க²ண்ட³த்³வயீ-

Meaning
ஶ்வ: - tomorrow; கம்ஸ-க்ஷபண-உத்ஸவஸ்ய - of the Kansa's slaying festival's; புரத: ப்ராரம்ப-⁴தூர்ய-உபம:- - before, beginning with the initial drum beat like; சாப-த்⁴வம்ஸ-மஹா-த்⁴வனி:- - the bow's breaking terrific sound; தவ விபோ⁴ - by Thee O Lord!; தே³வான்-அரோமாஞ்சயத் - in the gods' produced horripilation; கம்ஸஸ்ய-அபி ச - and of Kansa also; வேபது²:-தத்-உதி³த: - trembling from that arose; கோத³ண்ட-³க²ண்ட-³த்³வயீ- - with the bow's two pieces; சண்ட-³அப்⁴யாஹத- - severely beaten; ரக்ஷி-பூருஷ-ரவை:- - the guard's cries; உத்கூலித:-அபூ⁴த் - (the sound) was made to overflow (or increased manifold); த்வயா - by Thee;
Translation
The breaking of the bow with a terrific sound was like the heralding drum beat to the festival of Kansa's destruction due the next day. O Lord! The sound caused horripilation in the gods. Even Kansa trembled by the sound which increased many fold and overflowed by the shrieks of the guards who were severely beaten by Thee with the two pieces of the bow.

ஶிஷ்டைர்து³ஷ்டஜனைஶ்ச த்³ருஷ்டமஹிமா ப்ரீத்யா ச பீ⁴த்யா தத:
ஸம்பஶ்யன் புரஸம்பத³ம் ப்ரவிசரன் ஸாயம் க³தோ வாடிகாம் ।
ஶ்ரீதா³ம்னா ஸஹ ராதி⁴காவிரஹஜம் கே²த³ம் வத³ன் ப்ரஸ்வப-
ந்னானந்த³ன்னவதாரகார்யக⁴டனாத்³வாதேஶ ஸம்ரக்ஷ மாம் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
ஶிஷ்டை:- - by the good people; து³ஷ்ட-ஜனை:-ச - and by the wicked people; த்³ருஷ்ட-மஹிமா - was realised the greatness; ப்ரீத்யா ச பீ⁴த்யா - with love and with fear; தத: ஸம்பஶ்யன் - then seeing; புர-ஸம்பத³ம் ப்ரவிசரன் - the city's prosperity, moving about; ஸாயம் க³த: வாடிகாம் - in the evening went to the garden; ஶ்ரீதா³ம்னா ஸஹ - with Shreedaamaa; ராதி⁴கா-விரஹ்ஜம் கே²த³ம் - Raadhaa's separation causing sorrow; வத³ன் ப்ரஸ்வபன்- - talking about and then sleeping; ஆனந்த³ன்- - and feeling happy; அவதார-கார்ய-க⁴டனாத்- - at the impending fulfilment of the purpose of Thy incarnation; வாதேஶ ஸம்ரக்ஷ மாம் - O Lord of Guruvaayur! Protect me;
Translation
Thy greatness was realised by the good people with love and by the wicked people with fear. Thou moved about the city viewing its prosperity and returned to Thy camp in the garden in the evening. Thou talked to Shreedaamaa about Thy sorrow because of the separation from Raadhaa. Thou then went to sleep feeling content and happy at the impending fulfilment of the purpose of Thy incarnation. O Lord of Guruvaayur! deign to protect me.
