ஶ்லோக:
உத்³க³ச்ச²தஸ்தவ கராத³ம்ருதம் ஹரத்ஸு
தை³த்யேஷு தானஶரணானநுனீய தே³வான் ।
ஸத்³யஸ்திரோத³தி⁴த² தே³வ ப⁴வத்ப்ரபா⁴வா-
து³த்³யத்ஸ்வயூத்²யகலஹா தி³திஜா ப³பூ⁴வு: ॥1॥
Meaning
உத்³க³ச்ச²த:-தவ - from Thy (hands) when emerging from the ocean; கராத்-அம்ருதம் ஹரத்ஸு - from the hands, snatching the nectar; தை³த்யேஷு - the Asuras,; தான்-அஶரணான்-அனுனீய தே³வான் - to those helpless Devas giving solace; ஸத்³ய:-திரோத³தி⁴த² தே³வ - immediately Thou disappeared O Lord!; ப⁴வத்-ப்ரபா⁴வாத்- - (and) by Thy prompting; உத்³யத்-ஸ்வ-யூத்²ய-கலஹா - (there) arose among their own group of (the Asuras) a quarrel; தி³திஜா ப³பூ⁴வு: - the Asuras became thus;
Translation
Thou emerged from the ocean as Dhanvantari holding the pot of nectar which the Asuras snatched from Thy hands. The devas became helpless. After consoling them, Thou immediately disappeared. O Lord! Then prompted by Thy Maayaa the Asuras started to quarrel amongst themselves.
ஶ்லோக:
ஶ்யாமாம் ருசாபி வயஸாபி தனும் ததா³னீம்
ப்ராப்தோஸி துங்க³குசமண்ட³லப⁴ங்கு³ராம் த்வம் ।
பீயூஷகும்ப⁴கலஹம் பரிமுச்ய ஸர்வே
த்ருஷ்ணாகுலா: ப்ரதியயுஸ்த்வது³ரோஜகும்பே⁴ ॥2॥
Meaning
ஶ்யாமாம் - beautiful and youthful; ருசா-அபி வயஸா-அபி - by complexion and by age; தனும் ததா³னீம் ப்ராப்த:-அஸி - (Thou) took the form then; துங்க-³குச-மண்ட³ல-ப⁴ங்கு³ராம் - due to the weight of the high breasts which was bent; த்வம் - Thee; பீயூஷ-கும்ப-⁴கலஹம் - for the nectar pot the fight; பரிமுச்ய ஸர்வே - abandoning everyone; த்ருஷ்ணா-ஆகுலா: - thirsting (infatuated); ப்ரதியயு:- - approached; த்வத்-உரோஜ-கும்பே⁴ - Thy pot-like breasts;
Translation
Thou then took the form of a beautiful young maiden - beautiful by complexion, young by age, whose frame was bent due to the weight of her high heavy breasts. All the Asuras abandoned their quarrel about the pot of nectar, and thirstily approached Thee infatuated by the sight of Thy pot-like breasts.
ஶ்லோக:
கா த்வம் ம்ருகா³க்ஷி விபஜ⁴ஸ்வ ஸுதா⁴மிமாமி-
த்யாரூட⁴ராக³விவஶானபி⁴யாசதோமூன் ।
விஶ்வஸ்யதே மயி கத²ம் குலடாஸ்மி தை³த்யா
இத்யாலபன்னபி ஸுவிஶ்வஸிதானதானீ: ॥3॥
Meaning
கா த்வம் ம்ருகா³க்ஷி - Who are you, O doe-eyed one?; விபஜ⁴ஸ்வ ஸுதா⁴ம்-இமாம்- - distribute this nectar'; இதி-ஆரூட-⁴ராக-³விவஶான்- - thus, helpless and overcome with passion; அபி⁴யாசித:-அமூன் - they begged thus to her; விஶ்வஸ்யதே மயி கத²ம் - trust me, how can you?; குலடா-அஸ்மி தை³த்யா - I am a whore, O Asuras!'; இதி-ஆலபன்-அபி - even when saying thus,; ஸுவிஶ்வஸிதான்-அதானீ: - Thou made them trust Thee;
Translation
O doe-eyed lady, who are you? Distribute this nectar', entreated the Asuras, helplessly being overcome by passion. 'How do you trust me? O Asuras, as I am a whore.' Even though Thou said so, Thou commanded their trust.
ஶ்லோக:
மோதா³த் ஸுதா⁴கலஶமேஷு த³த³த்ஸு ஸா த்வம்
து³ஶ்சேஷ்டிதம் மம ஸஹத்⁴வமிதி ப்³ருவாணா ।
பங்க்திப்ரபே⁴த³வினிவேஶிததே³வதை³த்யா
லீலாவிலாஸக³திபி⁴: ஸமதா³: ஸுதா⁴ம் தாம் ॥4॥
Meaning
மோதா³த் ஸுதா⁴-கலஶம்- - with joy when the nectar pot; ஏஷு த³த³த்ஸு - was given by them; ஸா த்வம் - Thee (in the form of) her (Mohini); து³ஶ்சேஷ்டிதம் மம ஸஹத்⁴வம்- - (please) bear with my wrong deeds; இதி ப்³ருவாணா - saying so; பங்க்தி-ப்ரபே⁴த-³ - in separated rows; வினிவேஶித-தே³வ-தை³த்யா - were made to sit the Devas and The Asuras; லீலா-விலாஸ-க³திபி⁴: - with sportive and charming gait; ஸமதா³: ஸுதா⁴ தாம் - distributed that nectar;
Translation
Readily and joyfully the pot of nectar was handed over to Thee, as Mohini. Asking them to bear with Thee, Thy wrong deed, Thou made the Devas and Asuras sit in separate rows. Holding the Asuras infatuated and spellbound by the charming and sportive gait, Thou served the nectar.
ஶ்லோக:
அஸ்மாஸ்வியம் ப்ரணயிணீத்யஸுரேஷு தேஷு
ஜோஷம் ஸ்தி²தேஷ்வத² ஸமாப்ய ஸுதா⁴ம் ஸுரேஷு ।
த்வம் ப⁴க்தலோகவஶகோ³ நிஜரூபமேத்ய
ஸ்வர்பா⁴னுமர்த⁴பரிபீதஸுத⁴ம் வ்யலாவீ: ॥5॥
Meaning
அஸ்மாஸு-இயம் ப்ரணயினீ- - us she is fond of; இதி-அஸுரேஷு தேஷு - when the Asuras were (wrongfully contemplating); ஜோஷம் ஸ்தி²தேஷு-அத² - and so were waiting silently, then; ஸமாப்ய ஸுதா⁴ம் ஸுரேஷு - Thou finished the nectar among the Devas; த்வம் ப⁴க்தலோக-வஶக:³ - Thee, who are ever favourable to Thy devotees; நிஜ-ரூபம்-ஏத்ய - assuming Thy own form (then); ஸ்வர்பா⁴னும்-அர்த⁴பீத-ஸுத⁴ம் - the Asura Raahu, who had drunk half of the nectar; வ்யலாவீ: - beheaded;
Translation
When the Asuras were wrongfully contemplating that Thou as Mohini were fond of them, and so were waiting silently, Thou finished the nectar among the Devas, as Thou always favour Thy devotees. Then Thou took Thy own form, and beheaded the Asura Raahu who had drunk half of the nectar served to him which he cunningly got by sitting in the row of the Devas.
ஶ்லோக:
த்வத்த: ஸுதா⁴ஹரணயோக்³யப²லம் பரேஷு
த³த்வா க³தே த்வயி ஸுரை: க²லு தே வ்யக்³ருஹ்ணன் ।
கோ⁴ரேத² மூர்ச²தி ரணே ப³லிதை³த்யமாயா-
வ்யாமோஹிதே ஸுரக³ணே த்வமிஹாவிராஸீ: ॥6॥
Meaning
த்வத்த: ஸுதா⁴-ஹரண- - from Thee for snatching the nectar; யோக்³ய-ப²லம் பரேஷு த³த்வா - and giving them the appropriate result; க³தே த்வயி - when Thou had departed; ஸுரை: க²லு தே வ்யக்³ருஹ்ணன் - indeed with the Devas they started a fight; கோ⁴ரே-அத² மூர்ச²தி ரணே - in the thick of the battle, when they ( the Devas) fainted; ப³லி-தை³த்ய-மாயா-வ்யாமோஹிதே - by the magical arts of the Asura Bali,; ஸுரக³ணே - the Devas; த்வம்-இஹ-ஆவிராஸீ: - Thee in the midst reappeared;
Translation
Having meted out to the Asuras the punishment for snatching away the pot of nectar from thy hands, Thou departed.The Asuras again started a fight with the devas. In the thick of the fierce battle, the Devas were reduced to a state of swoon by the Asura Bali's magical arts.Thou then reappeared in the battle field.
ஶ்லோக:
த்வம் காலனேமிமத² மாலிமுகா²ஞ்ஜக⁴ந்த²
ஶக்ரோ ஜகா⁴ன ப³லிஜம்ப⁴வலான் ஸபாகான் ।
ஶுஷ்கார்த்³ரது³ஷ்கரவதே⁴ நமுசௌ ச லூனே
பே²னேன நாரத³கி³ரா ந்யருணோ ரணம் த்வம் ॥7॥
Meaning
த்வம் காலனேமிம்- - Thou (killed) Kaalanemi,; அத² மாலிமுகா²ன்-ஜக⁴ந்த² - then (Thou) Maali and others killed; ஶக்ரோ ஜகா⁴ன - Indra killed; ப³லி-ஜம்ப-⁴வலான் ஸபாகான் - Bali, Jaambvaan, Vaali, Paaka, along with others; ஶுஷ்க-ஆர்த்³ர-து³ஷ்கர-வதே⁴ - by dry (solid) or wet (liquid) (weapons) could not be killed; நமுசௌ ச - and (such a) Naamuchi; லூனே பே²னேன - was destroyed by a (weapon made of ) foam; நாரத-³கி³ரா - then by the advice of Naarada; ந்யருண: ரணம் த்வம் - Thou stopped the battle;
Translation
In the battle Thou killed Kaalnemi, Maali and other Asuras. Indra killed Bali, Jaambvaan, Vaali, along with Paakaasura. Naamuchi who could not be killed by either dry or wet weapons was cut off by a weapon made of foam. Thou then stopped the battle on the advice of Naarada.

யோஷாவபுர்த³னுஜமோஹனமாஹிதம் தே
ஶ்ருத்வா விலோகனகுதூஹலவான் மஹேஶ: ।
பூ⁴தைஸ்ஸமம் கி³ரிஜயா ச க³த: பத³ம் தே
ஸ்துத்வாப்³ரவீத³பி⁴மதம் த்வமதோ² திரோதா⁴: ॥8॥
Meaning
யோஷா-வபு:- - the female form; த³னுஜ-மோஹனம்- - to delude the Asuras; ஆஹிதம் தே - assumed by Thee; ஶ்ருத்வா - hearing about it; விலோகன-குதூஹலவான் மஹேஶ: - to see it, Shiva became eager; பூ⁴தை:-ஸமம் - with his attendants; கி³ரிஜயா ச - and with Umaa; க³த: பத³ம் தே - (Shiva) went to Thy abode; ஸ்துத்வா-அப்³ரவீத் - praying Thee, he said; அபி⁴மதம் - his desire; த்வம்-அத² திரோதா⁴: - Thou then disappeared;
Translation
Shiva heard of Thy female form which Thou had taken to delude the Asuras and was eager to see it. He therefore went to Thy abode along with Umaa and the Bhootas. He beseeched Thee with hymns and praises and stated his purpose of visit. Thou then immediately disappeared.
ஶ்லோக:
ஆராமஸீமனி ச கந்து³ககா⁴தலீலா-
லோலாயமானநயனாம் கமனீம் மனோஜ்ஞாம் ।
த்வாமேஷ வீக்ஷ்ய விக³லத்³வஸனாம் மனோபூ⁴-
வேகா³த³னங்க³ரிபுரங்க³ ஸமாலிலிங்க³ ॥9॥
Meaning
ஆராம-ஸீமனி - in a portion of the garden; ச கந்து³க-கா⁴த-லீலா- - and playing by hitting the ball; லோலாயமான-னயனாம் - with eyes moving about; கமனீம் மனோஜ்ஞாம் - a female form which was very captivating; த்வாம்-ஏஷ வீக்ஷ்ய - He (Shiva) seeing Thee; விக³லத்-வஸனாம் - whose clothes were slipping away; மனோபூ⁴-வேகா³த்- - by the force of infatuation; அன்ங்க³ரிபு:- - the conqueror of Kaamdeva (Shiva); அங்க³ - O Lord!; ஸமாலிலிங்க³ - embraced (Thee);
Translation
In the far portion of the garden, Shiva saw Thee in the form of a most beautiful damsel, whose eyes roamed about as she played with a ball. Her robes were slipping down in the course of the movements. The conqueror of Kaamdeva, Shiva, was so overcome by desire that he embraced Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
பூ⁴யோபி வித்³ருதவதீமுபதா⁴வ்ய தே³வோ
வீர்யப்ரமோக்ஷவிகஸத்பரமார்த²போ³த:⁴ ।
த்வன்மானிதஸ்தவ மஹத்த்வமுவாச தே³வ்யை
தத்தாத்³ருஶஸ்த்வமவ வாதனிகேதனாத² ॥1௦॥
Meaning
பூ⁴ய:-அபி - even again; வித்³ருதவதீம்-உபதா⁴வ்ய - following her who was running away; தே³வ: - Shiva; வீர்ய-ப்ரமோக்ஷ- - having released his seed; விகஸத்-பரம்-அர்த-²போ³த:⁴ - gained the knowledge of truth; த்வத்-மானித:- - honoured by Thee; தவ மஹத்த்வம்- - Thy greatness; உவாச தே³வ்யை - he told to Devi (Umaa); தத்-தாத்³ருஶ:-த்வம்- - Thou who are like that; அவ - protect me; வாதனிகேதனாத² - O Lord Of Guruvaayur!;
Translation
Shiva pursued Mohini who was running away. He obtained knowledge of the pure self, only as his seed escaped. After being honoured by Thee, he narrated Thy greatness to Umaa. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Of such greatness, protect me.
