ஶ்லோக:
அயி தே³வ புரா கில த்வயி ஸ்வயமுத்தானஶயே ஸ்தனந்த⁴யே ।
பரிஜ்ரும்ப⁴ணதோ வ்யபாவ்ருதே வத³னே விஶ்வமசஷ்ட வல்லவீ ॥1॥
Meaning
அயி தே³வ - O Lord!; புரா கில - long ago indeed; த்வயி ஸ்வயம்- - (when) Thou by Thyself; உத்தானஶயே - while lying on the back; ஸ்தனந்த⁴யே - and sucking at the breast (of Yashodaa); பரிஜ்ரும்ப⁴ணத: - by yawning; வ்யபாவ்ருதே வத³னே - in Thy open mouth; விஶ்வம்-அசஷ்ட - the universe, was seen; வல்லவீ - by the cowherdess (Yashodaa);
Translation
O Lord! Once long ago, as Thou were lying flat on the back, in the lap of Yashodaa and sucking at her breast, Thou yawned. As Thou did so, in Thy open mouth, Thou revealed to her the whole universe.
ஶ்லோக:
புனரப்யத² பா³லகை: ஸமம் த்வயி லீலானிரதே ஜக³த்பதே ।
ப²லஸஞ்சயவஞ்சனக்ருதா⁴ தவ ம்ருத்³போ⁴ஜனமூசுரர்ப⁴கா: ॥2॥
Meaning
புன:-அபி-அத² - again also; பா³லகை: ஸமம் - with the children; த்வயி லீலா-னிரதே - (when) Thou were engrossed in play; ஜக³த்பதே - O Lord of the Universe!; ப²ல-ஸஞ்சய- - in collecting the fruits; வஞ்சன-க்ருதா⁴ - being cheated and angered (the children); தவ ம்ருத்³-போ⁴ஜனம்- - Thy eating of sand; ஊசு:-அர்ப⁴கா: - reported the children;
Translation
O Lord of the Universe! Again once, as Thou were playing with other children, Thou cheated them in collecting fruits. Angered at this, they reported to Thy mother that Thou had eaten mud.
ஶ்லோக:
அயி தே ப்ரலயாவதௌ⁴ விபோ⁴ க்ஷிதிதோயாதி³ஸமஸ்தப⁴க்ஷிண: ।
ம்ருது³பாஶனதோ ருஜா ப⁴வேதி³தி பீ⁴தா ஜனநீ சுகோப ஸா ॥3॥
Meaning
அயி - O (Thou); தே ப்ரலய-அவதௌ⁴ - Thee at the time of deluge; விபோ⁴ - O Lord!; க்ஷிதி-தோய-ஆதி³- - earth water etc; ஸமஸ்த-ப⁴க்ஷிண: - everything consuming; ம்ருத்³-உபாஶனத: - by eating mud,; ருஜா ப⁴வேத்-இதி - sickness may be, thus; பீ⁴தா ஜனநீ - (Thy) frightened mother; சுகோப ஸா - she became angry;
Translation
O Lord! At the time of the deluge Thou do consume everything earth water etc. Yet Thy mother was frightened that Thou may fall sick by eating mud and so she became angry.
ஶ்லோக:
அயி து³ர்வினயாத்மக த்வயா கிமு ம்ருத்ஸா ப³த வத்ஸ ப⁴க்ஷிதா ।
இதி மாத்ருகி³ரம் சிரம் விபோ⁴ விததா²ம் த்வம் ப்ரதிஜஜ்ஞிஷே ஹஸன் ॥4॥
Meaning
அயி து³ர்வினயாத்மக - O naughty (one); த்வயா கிமு - by you was it; ம்ருத்ஸா பத³ - that mud indeed; வத்ஸ ப⁴க்ஷிதா - O son, was eaten; இதி மாத்ருகி³ரம் - such the words of Thy mother; சிரம் விபோ⁴ - for a long time O Lord; விததா²ம் த்வம் - as false, Thee; ப்ரதிஜஜ்ஞிஷே ஹஸன் - asserted laughingly;
Translation
O you naughty one! Is it that you have eaten mud O son!' O Lord! These words of Thy mother, for a long time, Thou kept on denying and laughingly asserted that Thou had not done so.
ஶ்லோக:
அயி தே ஸகலைர்வினிஶ்சிதே விமதிஶ்சேத்³வத³னம் விதா³ர்யதாம் ।
இதி மாத்ருவிப⁴ர்த்ஸிதோ முக²ம் விகஸத்பத்³மனிப⁴ம் வ்யதா³ரய: ॥5॥
Meaning
அயி தே - O Boy! Of you; ஸகலை:-வினிஶ்சிதே - by every one asserted; விமதி:-சேத்- - is, if disagreed; வத³னம் விதா³ர்யதாம் - mouth (please) open; இதி மாத்ரு-விப⁴ர்த்ஸித: - thus by mother reprimanded; முக²ம் விகஸத்-பத்³ம-னிப⁴ம் - the mouth opening, lotus like; வ்யதா³ரய: - (Thou) opened;
Translation
O Boy! If you deny what all the others are saying, please open your mouth.' Thus reprimanded by Thy mother, Thou opened Thy mouth as a lotus in full bloom.
ஶ்லோக:
அபி ம்ருல்லவத³ர்ஶனோத்ஸுகாம் ஜனநீம் தாம் ப³ஹு தர்பயன்னிவ ।
ப்ருதி²வீம் நிகி²லாம் ந கேவலம் பு⁴வனான்யப்யகி²லான்யதீ³த்³ருஶ: ॥6॥
Meaning
அபி ம்ருல்-லவ - even a mud trace; த³ர்ஶன-உத்ஸுகாம் - eager to see; ஜனநீம் தாம் - to mother that; ப³ஹு தர்பயன்-இவ - very much trying to please as though,; ப்ருதி²வீம் நிகி²லாம் - the earth whole; ந கேவலம் - not only; பு⁴வனான்-அபி- - the other worlds also; அகி²லான்-அதீ³த்³ருஶ: - entirely showed;
Translation
Thy mother was eager to see just a trace of mud in Thy mouth. As though to please her, and to give her abundant satisfaction Thou showed her in Thy mouth not only this whole earth but the entire universe.
ஶ்லோக:
குஹசித்³வனமம்பு³தி⁴: க்வசித் க்வசித³ப்⁴ரம் குஹசித்³ரஸாதலம் ।
மனுஜா த³னுஜா: க்வசித் ஸுரா த³த்³ருஶே கிம் ந ததா³ த்வதா³னநே ॥7॥
Meaning
குஹசித்-வனம்- - somewhere the forests; அம்பு³தி⁴: க்வசித் - the oceans somewhere; க்வசித்-அப்⁴ரம் - somewhere the sky; குஹசித்-ரஸாதலம் - somewhere the Rasaatala; மனுஜா: த³னுஜா: - human beings, demons; க்வசித் ஸுரா: - somewhere the devas; த³த்³ருஶே கிம் ந - seen what not was; ததா³ த்வத்-ஆனநே - at that time in Thy mouth;
Translation
At that time, in Thy mouth what not was seen by Yashodaa? Somewhere the forests and oceans, somewhere the skies and Rasaatala, human beings and demons, gods and devas!
ஶ்லோக:
கலஶாம்பு³தி⁴ஶாயினம் புன: பரவைகுண்ட²பதா³தி⁴வாஸினம் ।
ஸ்வபுரஶ்ச நிஜார்ப⁴காத்மகம் கதிதா⁴ த்வாம் ந த³த³ர்ஶ ஸா முகே² ॥8॥
Meaning
கலஶ-அம்பு³தி⁴-ஶாயினம் - in the milk ocean, the recliner; புன: பர-வைகுண்ட²பத-³ - as the Paramaatamaa, in the Vaikuntha abode; அதி⁴வாஸினம் - the resident; ஸ்வ-புர:-ச - in front of herself; நிஜ-அர்ப⁴க-ஆத்மகம் - as her own son; கதிதா⁴ - in how many ways; த்வாம் ந த³த³ர்ஶ - Thee did not see; ஸா முகே² - she in (Thy) mouth;
Translation
Yashodaa saw in Thy mouth the recliner in the milk ocean. Again she saw Paramaatamaa, the resident of the Vaikunth abode. Then she saw Thee as her son in front of her. In how many different ways did she not see Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
விகஸத்³பு⁴வனே முகோ²த³ரே நனு பூ⁴யோபி ததா²விதா⁴னந: ।
அனயா ஸ்பு²டமீக்ஷிதோ ப⁴வானநவஸ்தா²ம் ஜக³தாம் ப³தாதனோத் ॥9॥
Meaning
விகஸத்-பு⁴வனே - revealing the worlds; முக-²உத³ரே - in the inside of the mouth; நனு பூ⁴ய:-அபி - indeed then again also; ததா²-வித-⁴ஆனந: - that same type of face; அனயா ஸ்பு²டம்-ஈக்ஷித: - by her was clearly seen; ப⁴வான்-அனவஸ்தா²ம் - Thou as the infinitude; ஜக³தாம் - of the universe; ப³த்-ஆதனோத் - definitely expounded;
Translation
In the cavity of Thy mouth she saw all the worlds, where even Thou were present with Thy mouth open, once again, in which again all the worlds were seen; and so on endlessly. This definitely expounded Thou as the infinitude of the universe.
ஶ்லோக:
த்⁴ருததத்த்வதி⁴யம் ததா³ க்ஷணம் ஜனநீம் தாம் ப்ரணயேன மோஹயன் ।
ஸ்தனமம்ப³ தி³ஶேத்யுபாஸஜன் ப⁴க³வன்னத்³பு⁴தபா³ல பாஹி மாம் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
த்⁴ருத-தத்த்வ-தி⁴யம் - holding the reality in the mind; ததா³ க்ஷணம் - at that time for a moment; ஜனநீம் தாம் - to the mother; ப்ரணயேன மோஹயன் - by affection enchanting (deluding); ஸ்தனம்-அம்ப³ தி³ஶ- - breast milk O Mother give'; இதி-உபாஸஜன் - thus embracing; ப⁴க³வன்- - O Lord!; அத்³பு⁴த-பா³ல - O Wonderful Child!; பாஹி மாம் - protect me;
Translation
At that time for a moment, Yashodaa had a flash of illumination. Thou with affection deluded her and clung to her, calling her 'Mother' and demanded to be suckled. O Lord! Thou the Wondrous Child! Deign to protect me.
