ஶ்லோக:
ஏகதா³ த³தி⁴விமாத²காரிணீம் மாதரம் ஸமுபஸேதி³வான் ப⁴வான் ।
ஸ்தன்யலோலுபதயா நிவாரயன்னங்கமேத்ய பபிவான் பயோத⁴ரௌ ॥1॥
Meaning
ஏகதா³ - once; த³தி⁴-விமாத-²காரிணீம் - the curd churning as she was; மாதரம் - Thy mother; ஸமுபஸேதி³வான் ப⁴வான் - approached Thou; ஸ்தன்ய-லோலுபதயா - breast milk desiring; நிவாரயன்- - obstructing (the churning); அங்கம்-ஏத்ய - up (her) lap climbing; பபிவான் பயோத⁴ரௌ - (Thou) sucked her breasts;
Translation
Once when Thy mother was churning the curd, Thou approached her in the eagerness to be breast fed. Obstructing her churning Thou climbed up her lap and sucked at her breasts.
ஶ்லோக:
அர்த⁴பீதகுசகுட்³மலே த்வயி ஸ்னிக்³த⁴ஹாஸமது⁴ரானநாம்பு³ஜே ।
து³க்³த⁴மீஶ த³ஹனே பரிஸ்ருதம் த⁴ர்துமாஶு ஜனநீ ஜகா³ம தே ॥2॥
Meaning
அர்த⁴பீத- - having half drunk; குசகுட்³மலே - the breasts lotus bud like; த்வயி ஸ்னிக்³த-⁴ஹாஸ- - (when) Thee with a charming smile; மது⁴ர-ஆனந-அம்பு³ஜே - on the sweet face, lotus like; து³க்³த⁴ம்-ஈஶ - the milk, O Lord!; த³ஹனே பரிஸ்ருதம் - on the fire, having overflown; த⁴ர்தும்-ஆஶு - to hold it, fast; ஜனநீ ஜகா³ம தே - mother went away, Thy;
Translation
O Lord! Thou had half-way sucked her lotus bud like breasts, with a charming smile playing on the sweet lotus like face. Just then, Thy mother went away in a haste to quickly hold the milk which had overflown on the fire.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸாமிபீதரஸப⁴ங்க³ஸங்க³தக்ரோத⁴பா⁴ரபரிபூ⁴தசேதஸா।
மந்த²த³ண்ட³முபக்³ருஹ்ய பாடிதம் ஹந்த தே³வ த³தி⁴பா⁴ஜனம் த்வயா ॥3॥
Meaning
ஸாமி-பீத- - half drunk, (so); ரஸ-ப⁴ங்க-³ஸங்க³த- - the joy being interrupted, as a result; க்ரோத-⁴பா⁴ர- - angered greatly; பரிபூ⁴த-சேதஸா - with the mind overcome; மந்த-²த³ண்ட³ம்- - the churning rod; உபக்³ருஹ்ய பாடிதம் - taking up, was broken; ஹந்த தே³வ - Oh! O Lord!; த³தி⁴-பா⁴ஜனம் த்வயா - the curd pot by Thee;
Translation
O Lord! Having drunk half way, and as a result the joy being interrupted, Thy mind was overcome with great rage. Oh! Then taking up the churning rod, the curd pot was broken by Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
உச்சலத்³த்⁴வனிதமுச்சகைஸ்ததா³ ஸன்னிஶம்ய ஜனநீ ஸமாத்³ருதா ।
த்வத்³யஶோவிஸரவத்³த³த³ர்ஶ ஸா ஸத்³ய ஏவ த³தி⁴ விஸ்த்ருதம் க்ஷிதௌ ॥4॥
Meaning
உச்சலத்-த்⁴வனிதம்- - by the loud sound; உச்சகை:-ததா³ - rising high then; ஸன்னிஶம்ய - hearing; ஜனநீ ஸமாத்³ருதா - Thy mother hastily came running; த்வத்-யஶ:-விஸர:- - Thy fame spreading; வத்-த³த³ர்ஶ ஸா - as though, she saw; ஸத்³ய ஏவ த³தி⁴ - right then the curd; விஸ்த்ருதம் க்ஷிதௌ - spreading on the floor;
Translation
Thy mother came running when she heard the loud sound rising of the pot being broken. Right then she saw the curd spreading on the floor,even like Thy pure unblemished fame spreading in the universe.
ஶ்லோக:
வேத³மார்க³பரிமார்கி³தம் ருஷா த்வமவீக்ஷ்ய பரிமார்க³யந்த்யஸௌ ।
ஸந்த³த³ர்ஶ ஸுக்ருதின்யுலூக²லே தீ³யமானநவனீதமோதவே ॥5॥
Meaning
வேத³மார்க-³பரிமார்கி³தம் - through the path of the Vedas, sought after; ருஷா த்வாம்-அவீக்ஷ்ய - the angered (Yashodaa), Thee not seeing; பரிமார்க³யந்தீ- - searching (Thee); அஸௌ ஸந்த³த³ர்ஶ - she saw; ஸுக்ருதினீ- - the fortunate one (Yashodaa); உலூக²லே - (Thee) on the mortar; தீ³யமான-னவனீதம்- - giving butter; ஓதவே - to the cat;
Translation
Thou who are sought after through the path of the Vedas, were not seen anywhere by Thy angered mother. She, the fortunate one searched everywhere and saw Thee sitting on the mortar feeding butter to the cat.
ஶ்லோக:
த்வாம் ப்ரக்³ருஹ்ய ப³த பீ⁴திபா⁴வனாபா⁴ஸுரானநஸரோஜமாஶு ஸா ।
ரோஷரூஷிதமுகீ² ஸகீ²புரோ ப³ந்த⁴னாய ரஶனாமுபாத³தே³ ॥6॥
Meaning
த்வாம் ப்ரக்³ருஹ்ய பத³ - Thee getting hold of, Oh!; பீ⁴தி-பா⁴வனா- - by the expression of fear; பா⁴ஸுர-ஆனந-ஸரோஜம்- - the shining face which was lotus like; ஆஶு ஸா - hastily she; ரோஷ-ரூஷித-முகீ² - quivering with anger faced (she); ஸகீ²-புர: - in front of her friends; ப³ந்த⁴னாய - to tie up Thee; ரஶனாம்-உபாத³தே³ - a rope took;
Translation
Oh! Yashodaa with her face quivering due to anger, hastily caught hold of Thee whose lotus like face was looking very sweet with pretended fear. As her friends watched, she took a rope to tie Thee up.
ஶ்லோக:
ப³ந்து⁴மிச்ச²தி யமேவ ஸஜ்ஜனஸ்தம் ப⁴வந்தமயி ப³ந்து⁴மிச்ச²தீ ।
ஸா நியுஜ்ய ரஶனாகு³ணான் ப³ஹூன் த்³வ்யங்கு³லோனமகி²லம் கிலைக்ஷத ॥7॥
Meaning
ப³ந்து⁴ம்-இச்ச²தி - as a friend,(who is) desired; யம்-ஏவ ஸஜ்ஜன:- - him alone , good people; தம் ப⁴வந்தம்-அயி - That Thee O Lord!; ப³ந்து⁴ம்-இச்ச²தீ - to tie desiring; ஸா நியுஜ்ய - she using (tying together); ரஶனா-கு³ணான் ப³ஹூன் - pieces of rope, many; த்³வ்யங்கு³ல-ஊனம்- - by two fingers (long), short; அகி²லம் - the whole length; கில-ஐக்ஷத - indeed found;
Translation
All good men want to bind themselves to Thee alone in devotion. That Thou O Lord! Yashodaa desiring to tie, found the length of the rope short by two fingers, even though she attached many pieces of ropes to lengthen it.
ஶ்லோக:
விஸ்மிதோத்ஸ்மிதஸகீ²ஜனேக்ஷிதாம் ஸ்வின்னஸன்னவபுஷம் நிரீக்ஷ்ய தாம் ।
நித்யமுக்தவபுரப்யஹோ ஹரே ப³ந்த⁴மேவ க்ருபயான்வமன்யதா²: ॥8॥
Meaning
விஸ்மித்-உத்ஸ்மித- - wonderstruck and smiling; ஸகீ²ஜன-ஈக்ஷிதாம் - the friends (Gopis) watching; ஸ்வின்ன-ஸன்ன-வபுஷம் - (she, with) perspiring and exhausted body; நிரீக்ஷ்ய தாம் - seeing her (Yashodaa); நித்ய-முக்த-வபு:- - forever free bodied; அபி-அஹோ ஹரே - though O Hari! (Thou); ப³ந்த⁴ம்-ஏவ - bondage alone; க்ருபயா-அன்வமன்யதா²: - compassionately accepted;
Translation
As Thy mother's friends were smilingly watching with wonder, Thou saw her body perspiring and exhausted due to the effort. O Hari! Thou who are the ever-free Being, out of compassion accepted the bondage.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸ்தீ²யதாம் சிரமுலூக²லே க²லேத்யாக³தா ப⁴வனமேவ ஸா யதா³।
ப்ராகு³லூக²லபி³லாந்தரே ததா³ ஸர்பிரர்பிதமத³ன்னவாஸ்தி²தா²: ॥9॥
Meaning
ஸ்தீ²யதாம் - (may you) stay here; சிரம்-உலூக²லே - for long at the mortar; க²ல-இதி- - O rouge, thus (saying); ஆக³தா ப⁴வனம்-ஏவ - (when she) returned to the house only; ஸா யதா³ ப்ராக்- - she when, earlier; உலூக²ல-பி³லாந்தரே - in the mortar's cavity; ததா³ ஸர்பி:-அர்பிதம்- - then, the butter which was placed; அத³ன்-அவாஸ்தி²தா²: - eating Thou stayed;
Translation
As Yashodaa went back into the house, she said 'O Rogue! stay tied like this to the mortar for long.' Thou stayed there eating the butter which Thou had earlier placed in the cavity of the mortar.
ஶ்லோக:
யத்³யபாஶஸுக³மோ விபோ⁴ ப⁴வான் ஸம்யத: கிமு ஸபாஶயானயா ।
ஏவமாதி³ தி³விஜைரபி⁴ஷ்டுதோ வாதனாத² பரிபாஹி மாம் க³தா³த் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
யதி³-அபாஶ-ஸுக³ம: - if (Thou are) to the desire less easily attainable; விபோ⁴ ப⁴வான் - O All pervading Being! Thou; ஸம்யத: கிமு - were tied down, how come; ஸபாஶயா-அனயா - (who was) having a rope, by her (Yashodaa); ஏவம்-ஆதி³ - thus and so forth; தி³விஜை:-அபி⁴ஷ்டுத: - by the gods in heaven praised; வாதனாத² - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; பரிபாஹி மாம் க³தா³த் - save me from my ailments.;
Translation
O All Pervading Being! If Thou are easily attainable to the desire less (a-paash) people, who are not bound by desire, how was it that Yashodaa was able to secure Thee with a (paash) rope for binding. Thou whose glories were thus sung by the gods in the heaven, O Lord of Guruvaayur! May Thou save me from my ailments.
