க³த்வா ஸாந்தீ³பனிமத² சதுஷ்ஷஷ்டிமாத்ரைரஹோபி⁴:
ஸர்வஜ்ஞஸ்த்வம் ஸஹ முஸலினா ஸர்வவித்³யா க்³ருஹீத்வா ।
புத்ரம் நஷ்டம் யமனிலயனாதா³ஹ்ருதம் த³க்ஷிணார்த²ம்
த³த்வா தஸ்மை நிஜபுரமகா³ நாத³யன் பாஞ்சஜன்யம் ॥1॥
Meaning
க³த்வா ஸாந்தீ³பனிம்-அத² - going to the sage Saandipani, then; சது:-ஷஷ்டி-மாத்ரை:-அஹோபி⁴: - in 64 days only; ஸர்வஜ்ஞ:-த்வம் - Omniscient Thou; ஸஹ முஸலினா - along with Balaraama; ஸர்வ-வித்³யா க்³ருஹீத்வா - all knowledge mastering; புத்ரம் நஷ்டம் - the dead son; யம-னிலயனாத்-ஆஹ்ருதம் - from Yama's abode bringing; த³க்ஷிணா-அர்த²ம் - by way of dakshinaa (to the teacher Sandipini); த³த்வா தஸ்மை - giving him; நிஜ-புரம்-அகா³ - to Thy city went back; நாத³யன் பாஞ்சஜன்யம் - sounding the conch Paanchajanya;
Translation
Along with Balaraama Thou went to sage Sandipani's aashram and mastered all knowledge in just 64 days. Thou brought back Thy guru Sandipani's dead son from Yama's abode and gave him by way of Guru-dakshinaa. Thou then went back to Thy city sounding the conch Paanchajanya.

காருண்யேன த்வமபி விவஶ: ப்ராஹிணோருத்³த⁴வம் தம் ।

Meaning
ஸ்ம்ருத்வா ஸ்ம்ருத்வா - remembering again and again; பஶுப-ஸுத்³ருஶ: - the beautiful Gopikas; ப்ரேம-பா⁴ர-ப்ரணுன்னா: - who were overwhelmed with love for Thee; காருண்யேன - with compassion; த்வம்-அபி விவஶ: - Thou also were overcome; ப்ராஹிணோ:-உத்³த⁴வம் தம் - (Thou) sent that Uddhava; கிம்-ச-அமுஷ்மை - and besides to him; பரம-ஸுஹ்ருதே³ - (Thy) very dear friend; ப⁴க்தவர்யாய தாஸாம் - those great devotees; ப⁴க்தி-உத்³ரேகம் - intense devotion; ஸ்கல-பு⁴வனே து³ர்லப⁴ம் - rare in the whole world; த³ர்ஶயிஷ்யன் - wishing to show;
Translation
Again and again Thou remembered the overwhelming love of the beautiful Gopikas for Thee. Thou were also overpowered with compassion for them. Thou sent Thy very dear friend Uddhava to them with a message. Also with the desire to demonstrate to him the intense devotion of those great devotees which was rare in the whole world.

Meaning
த்வத்-மாஹாத்ம்ய- - Thy greatness (and); ப்ரதி²ம-பிஶுனம் - magnitude indicating; கோ³குலம் ப்ராப்ய ஸாயம் - to Gokula reaching in the evening; த்வத்-வார்தாபி⁴:-ப³ஹு - with Thy many news; ஸ ரமயாமாஸ - he (Uddhava) delighted; நந்த³ம் யஶோதா³ம் - Nanda and Yashodaa; ப்ராத:-த்³ருஷ்ட்வா - in the morning seeing; மணிமய-ரத²ம் - the bejewelled chariot; ஶங்கிதா: பங்கஜாக்ஷ்ய: - suspecting, the lotus eyed women; ஶ்ருத்வா ப்ராப்தம் - hearing (that) had come; ப⁴வத்-அனுசரம் - Thy emissary (follower); த்யக்த-கார்யா: - abandoning their work; ஸமீயு: - gathered;
Translation
Gokula's prosperity was an indication of the magnitude of Thy greatness. Reaching there in the evening, Uddhava delighted Nanda and Yashodaa with Thy many news. In the morning the lotus eyed women of Gokula saw the bejewelled chariot and suspected Thy arrival. They came to know that one of Thy emissaries had come. Abandoning their work, they gathered at the house of Nandagopa.

த்³ருஷ்ட்வா சைனம் த்வது³பமலஸத்³வேஷபூ⁴ஷாபி⁴ராமம்
ஸ்ம்ருத்வா ஸ்ம்ருத்வா தவ விலஸிதான்யுச்சகைஸ்தானி தானி ।
ருத்³தா⁴லாபா: கத²மபி புனர்க³த்³க³தா³ம் வாசமூசு:

த்³ருஷ்ட்வா ச-ஏனம் - and seeing him; த்வத்-உபம- - similar to Thee; லஸத்-வேஷ-பூ⁴ஷா-அபி⁴ராமம் - donning clothes and ornaments charming; ஸ்ம்ருத்வா ஸ்ம்ருத்வா - remembering again and again; தவ விலஸிதானி- - Thy various deeds; உச்சகை:-தானி தானி - thoroughly all of them; ருத்³த-⁴ஆலாபா: - choking for words; கத²ம்-அபி - somehow; புன:-க³த்³க³தா³ம் - again with faltering; வாசம்-ஊசு: - words spoke; ஸௌஜன்ய-ஆதீ³ன் - behaviour etc.,; நிஜ-பர-பி⁴தா³ம்- - self and others' difference; அபி-அலம் - also completely; விஸ்மரந்த்ய: - forgetting;
Translation
The Gopikas saw Uddhava donning charming clothes and ornaments similar to Thine. They remembered Thee again and again and Thy various deeds and sports very thoroughly. They were full of emotions and were choking for words, and somehow managed to speak to Uddhava with faltering words. They had forgotten to observe the norms of behaviour and courtesies, and the differences between themselves and others.

ஶ்ரீமான் கிம் த்வம் பித்ருஜனக்ருதே ப்ரேஷிதோ நிர்த³யேன
க்வாஸௌ காந்தோ நக³ரஸுத்³ருஶாம் ஹா ஹரே நாத² பாயா: ।
ஆஶ்லேஷாணாமம்ருதவபுஷோ ஹந்த தே சும்ப³னானா-
முன்மாதா³னாம் குஹகவசஸாம் விஸ்மரேத் காந்த கா வா ॥5॥
Meaning
ஶ்ரீமான் கிம் த்வம் - O Sir! Is it (that) you; பித்ருஜன-க்ருதே - for the sake of the parents; ப்ரேஷித: நிர்த³யேன - are sent by the heart-less one; க்வ-அஸௌ காந்த: - where is that (Krishna) beloved; நக³ர-ஸுத்³ருஶாம் - of the city beauties; ஹா ஹரே நாத² பாயா: - O Hari! O Lord! protect us; ஆஶ்லேஷாணாம்- - of the embraces; அம்ருத-வபுஷ: - of that nectarine form; ஹந்த தே - alas! Of Thee; சும்ப³னானாம் - the kisses; உன்மாதா³னாம் - the intense love; குஹக-வசஸாம் - and sly words; விஸ்மரேத் காந்த - will forget O beloved; கா வா - which one (woman);
Translation
O Sir! Is it that you are sent by the heartless Krishna for the sake of his parents? Where is the beloved one of the beauties of the city? O Lord! O Hari! Protect us. Alas which one of us women can forget the embrace of the nectarine form, the kisses of intense love and the frolicsome words of the beloved one?'

Meaning
ராஸ-க்ரீடா³ - during the Raasa dance; லுலித-லலிதம் - which was done up, the beautiful; விஶ்லத²த்-கேஶ-பாஶம் - dishevelled untied (loosened) hair; மந்த-³உத்³பி⁴ன்ன- - the slight appearance (of); ஶ்ரமஜல-கணம் - of the sweat drops due to exertion; லோப⁴னீயம் த்வத்-அங்க³ம் - enchanting Thy form; காருண்ய-அப்³தே⁴ - O Ocean of Compassion!; ஸக்ருத்-அபி - at least once; ஸமாலிங்கி³தும் த³ர்ஶய- - to embrace (kindly) show; இதி ப்ரேம-உன்மாதா³த்- - thus out of intense love; பு⁴வனமதன³ - O Enchanter of all the worlds!; த்வத்-ப்ரியா:- - Thy dear ones; த்வாம் விலேபு: - implored Thee;
Translation
During the Raasa dance the done up beautiful hair which were dishevelled and had loosened, and with the appearance of sweat drops, Thy form was rendered enchanting. O Ocean of Compassion! Reveal to us once that form, so that we may once more embrace that form of Thee! O Enchanter of all the worlds!', thus Thy dear ones implored Thee out of intense love.

ஏவம்ப்ராயைர்விவஶவசனைராகுலா கோ³பிகாஸ்தா-
ஸ்த்வத்ஸந்தே³ஶை: ப்ரக்ருதிமனயத் ஸோத² விஜ்ஞானக³ர்பை⁴: ।

Meaning
ஏவம்-ப்ராயை:- - of such kind; விவஶ-வசனை:- - of despairful words; ஆகுலா: கோ³பிகா:-தா:- - overwhelmed with grief, those Gopikaas; த்வத்-ஸந்தே³ஶை: - with Thy messages (of deep knowledge); ப்ரக்ருதிம்-அனயத் - came to their own selves (became normal); ஸ:-அத² - he (Uddhava) then; விஜ்ஞான-க³ர்பை⁴: - with knowledge of self full of; பூ⁴ய:- - thereafter; தாபி⁴:-முதி³தமதிபி⁴:- - with them who were delighted; த்வத்-மயீபி⁴:-வதூ⁴பி⁴:- - and who were absorbed in Thee, with (those) women; தத்-தத்-வார்தா- - all those tales; ஸரஸம்-அனயத் - happily narrating spent; கானிசித்-வாஸராணி - some days;
Translation
The Gopikas bemoaned their fate with such words of despair and were overwhelmed with grief. Uddhava comforted them with Thy message of deep spiritual import. They came to their normal selves and thereafter experienced Thy inner presence. Uddhava spent some days with the totally devoted Gopikas joyfully and happily narrating various incidents about Thee.

த்வத்ப்ரோத்³கா³னை: ஸஹிதமனிஶம் ஸர்வதோ கே³ஹக்ருத்யம்
த்வத்³வார்தைவ ப்ரஸரதி மித:² ஸைவ சோத்ஸ்வாபலாபா: ।

த்வத்-ப்ரோத்³கா³னை: ஸஹிதம்- - with songs about Thee; அனிஶம் ஸர்வத: - always everywhere; கே³ஹ-க்ருத்யம் - household chores; த்வத்-வார்தா-ஏவ - Thy tale alone; ப்ரஸரதி - goes on; மித:² ஸா-ஏவ - amongst them that alone; ச-உத்ஸ்வ-அபலாபா: - in dreams speaking; சேஷ்டா: ப்ராய:- - actions mostly; த்வத்-அனுக்ருதய:- - were Thy imitations; த்வத்-மயம் - Thyself personified; ஸர்வம்-ஏவம் - everything altogether; த்³ருஷ்ட்வா தத்ர - seeing there; வ்யமுஹத்-அதி⁴கம் - was stunned very greatly; விஸ்மயாத்-உத்³த⁴வ:-அயம் - with wonder.that Uddhava;
Translation
The Gopikas always sang songs about Thee. Everywhere while doing their household chores, they narrated Thine tales, amongst themselves. They even spoke about Thee in their dreams.Their actions were mostly imitations of Thy actions as they tried to personify Thee. Everything that there, was permeated by Thy presence. Observing all this that great devotee Uddhava was wonderstruck and left stunned.

ராதா⁴யா மே ப்ரியதமமித³ம் மத்ப்ரியைவம் ப்³ரவீதி
த்வம் கிம் மௌனம் கலயஸி ஸகே² மானினீமத்ப்ரியேவ।
இத்யாத்³யேவ ப்ரவத³தி ஸகி² த்வத்ப்ரியோ நிர்ஜனே மா-
மித்த²ம்வாதை³ரரமத³யம் த்வத்ப்ரியாமுத்பலாக்ஷீம் ॥9॥
Meaning
ராதா⁴யா: மே - for Raadhaa of Mine; ப்ரியதமம்-இத³ம் - this is the favourite; மத்-ப்ரியா-ஏவம் ப்³ரவீதி - my dear one speaks like this; த்வம் கிம் மௌனம் கலயஸி - you are why silence maintaining; ஸகே² - Oh! Friend; மானினீ-மத்-ப்ரியா-இவ - like my dear and proud one (Raadhaa); இதி-ஆதி³-ஏவ - in this way only; ப்ரவத³தி ஸகி² - says O friend (Raadhaa); த்வத்-ப்ரிய: - your beloved (Krishna); நிர்ஜனே மாம்- - when alone, to me; இத்த²ம்-வாதை³:- - with such words; அரமத்-அயம் - gladdened he (Uddhava); த்வத்-ப்ரியாம்- - Thy dear one (Raadhaa); உத்பல-ஆக்ஷீம் - the lotus eyed;
Translation
This is my Raadhaa's favourite. My dear one speaks like this. My dear friend! Why are you silent like my dear proud one (Raadhaa)?' 'In this way O dear friend (Raadhaa) your beloved (Krishna) speaks to me when we are alone.' With these words Uddhava gladdened Thy dear lotus eyed Raadhaa.

ஏஷ்யாமி த்³ராக³னுபக³மனம் கேவலம் கார்யபா⁴ரா-
த்³விஶ்லேஷேபி ஸ்மரணத்³ருட⁴தாஸம்ப⁴வான்மாஸ்து கே²த:³ ।
ப்³ரஹ்மானந்தே³ மிலதி நசிராத் ஸங்க³மோ வா வியோக-³
ஸ்துல்யோ வ: ஸ்யாதி³தி தவ கி³ரா ஸோகரோன்னிர்வ்யதா²ஸ்தா: ॥1௦॥
Meaning
ஏஷ்யாமி த்³ராக்- - I will come soon; அனுபக³மனம் - (my) not coming is; கேவலம் கார்யபா⁴ராத்- - only due to work pressure; விஶ்லேஷே-அபி - in separation also; ஸ்மரண-த்³ருட⁴தா-ஸம்ப⁴வாத்- - because of firm remembrance; மா-அஸ்து கே²த:³ - let there be no grief; ப்³ரஹ்மானந்தே³ மிலதி - when Brahmaananda is attained; ந-சிராத் - without long (soon); ஸங்க³ம: வா வியோக:³- - meeting or separation; துல்ய: வ: ஸ்யாத்- - same for you will be; இதி தவ கி³ரா - thus by Thy words; ஸ:-அகரோத்- - he made; நிர்வ்யதா²:-தா: - them free of sorrow;
Translation
I shall come soon. My not coming is only due to work pressure. When there is firm remembrance, in separation also there is no grief. Before long when Brahmaananda is attained, you will experience the separation and union equally blissful.' By such words of Thine Uddhava appeased them.

ஏவம் ப⁴க்தி ஸகலபு⁴வனே நேக்ஷிதா ந ஶ்ருதா வா
கிம் ஶாஸ்த்ரௌகை⁴: கிமிஹ தபஸா கோ³பிகாப்⁴யோ நமோஸ்து ।
இத்யானந்தா³குலமுபக³தம் கோ³குலாது³த்³த⁴வம் தம்
த்³ருஷ்ட்வா ஹ்ருஷ்டோ கு³ருபுரபதே பாஹி மாமாமயௌகா⁴த் ॥11॥
Meaning
ஏவம் ப⁴க்தி: - such devotion; ஸகல-பு⁴வனே - in the whole world; ந-ஈக்ஷிதா - is not seen; ந ஶ்ருதா வா - or is not heard of; கிம் ஶாஸ்த்ர-ஔகை⁴: - of what use are so many scriptures; கிம்-இஹ தபஸா - of what use here is penance; கோ³பிகாப்⁴ய: நம:-அஸ்து - for the Gopikaasa may there be salutations; இதி-ஆதி³- - thus and so; ஆனந்த-³ஆகுலம்- - overwhelmed with joy; உபக³தம் கோ³குலாத்- - who had returned from Gokula; உத்³த⁴வம் தம் - that Uddhava; த்³ருஷ்ட்வா ஹ்ருஷ்ட: - seeing, very happy (Thou); கு³ருபுரபதே பாஹி - O Lord of Guruvaayur! Save me; மாம்-ஆமய-ஔகா⁴த் - from my so many afflictions;
Translation
Such devotion is neither seen nor heard of in the whole world. Of what use is the study of so many scriptures and the practices there in. And what is the use here of all penances. May there be salutations to the Gopikaas.' Thus Uddhava joyfully exclaimed when he returned from Gokula and met Thee. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Who were happy to see Uddhava, save me from so many of my afflictions.
