கேஶ-பாஶ-த்⁴ருத- - the beautiful lock of hair fixed; பிஞ்சி²கா-விததி- - by a bunch of peacock feathers; ஸஞ்சலன்- - dangling; மகர-குண்ட³லம் - fish shaped earrings; ஹார-ஜால- - many beautiful necklaces and garlands; வன-மாலிகா-லலிதம்- - of flowers adorning (the neck); அங்க-³ராக-³க⁴ன-ஸௌரப⁴ம் - the body smeared with sandal paste and other unguents emitting strong fragrance; பீத-சேல - the yellow silk garment; த்⁴ருத-காஞ்சிகா-அஞ்சிதம்- - fastened by the golden girdle adorning (the waist); உத³ஞ்சத்-அம்ஶு- - flashing forth rays; மணி-னூபுரம் - gem studded anklets; ராஸ-கேலி- - the Raas Dance; பரிபூ⁴ஷிதம் - adornments; தவ ஹி - Thy indeed; ரூபம்-ஈஶ - the lustrous form, O Lord!; கலயாமஹே - (we) meditate upon;
Translation
A bunch of peacock feathers adorning the beautiful locks of hair; a pair of fish shaped earrings dangling from the ears; many necklaces intermingled with flower garlands adorning the neck; a golden girdle fastened to the yellow silk garment adorning the waist; sandal paste and other unguents smeared on the body emitting strong fragrance; gem studded anklets flashing forth a glow; on such a radiant form of Thee, with decorations appropriate for the Raasa, we meditate on.

தாவதே³வ க்ருதமண்ட³னே கலிதகஞ்சுலீககுசமண்ட³லே
க³ண்ட³லோலமணிகுண்ட³லே யுவதிமண்ட³லேத² பரிமண்ட³லே ।

தாவத்-ஏவ - then only; க்ருத-மண்ட³னே - having done the makeup; கலித-கஞ்சுலீக- - and put on the bodice; குச-மண்ட³லே - on the breasts; க³ண்ட-³லோல - dangling on the cheeks; மணி-குண்ட³லே - the begemmed earrings; யுவதி-மண்ட³லே- - the group of young women; அத² பரிமண்ட³லே - then forming a circle; அந்தரா - in between; ஸகல-ஸுந்த³ரீ- - all the beautiful women; யுக³லம்- - every two of them; இந்தி³ரா-ரமண - O Thou Consort of Laxmi!; ஸஞ்சரன் - moving about; மஞ்ஜுலாம் தத³னு - the beautiful, then; ராஸகேலிம்-அயி - the Raas Dance O Thou; கஞ்ஜனாப⁴ - Padmanaabha; ஸமுபாத³தா⁴: - performed;
Translation
Then only, having done the make up and putting on the bodice on the breasts, and begemmed earrings dangling on the cheeks, the group of young women formed a circle surrounding Thee. O Consort of Laxmi! O Padmanaabha! Thou moved about in between every two of the beautiful women and performed the very beautiful Raas Dance.

தூ³ரதோபி க²லு நாரதா³க³தி³தமாகலய்ய குதுகாகுலா ।

Meaning
வாஸுதே³வ தவ - O Vaasudeva Thy; பா⁴ஸமானம்-இஹ - resplendent here; ராஸ-கேலி-ரஸஸௌரப⁴ம் - Raasa Leelaa's resplendent and fragrant beauty; தூ³ரத:-அபி க²லு - from far also indeed; நாரத-³ஆக³தி³தம்- - as Naarada described; ஆகலய்ய - having heard; குதுக-ஆகுலா - (and so) filled with eagerness; வேஷ-பூ⁴ஷண-விலாஸ-பேஶல- - in dressing up with jewellery and in amorous display, experts; விலாஸினீ-ஶத-ஸமாவ்ருதா - beautiful women in hundreds surrounded; நாகத: - from the heaven; யுக³பத்-ஆக³தா - all together came; வியதி வேக³த:- - to the sky very fast; அத² ஸுர-மண்ட³லீ - then the gods in groups;
Translation
O Vaasudeva! Naarada described Thy resplendent, fragrant and beautiful Raas Leelaa. Hearing about it from far, groups of gods, full of eagerness came from the heaven and quickly gathered in the sky. They were accompanied by hundreds of beautiful women who were experts in dressing up and in adorning themselves with jewellery and also in amorous display.

வேணுனாத³க்ருததானதா³னகலகா³னராக³க³தியோஜனா-
லோப⁴னீயம்ருது³பாத³பாதக்ருததாலமேலனமனோஹரம் ।

Meaning
வேணு-னாத-³ - the flute's key note; க்ருத-தான- - setting the tune; தா³ன-கல- - giving the sweet; கா³ன-ராக-³ - song (and) raagas; க³தி-யோஜனா- - flow and rhythm; லோப⁴னீய- - the enchanting; ம்ருது³-பாத-³பாத-க்ருத- - soft foot beat making; தால-மேலன- - (the keeping of) the beats; மனோஹரம் - very pleasant; பாணி-ஸங்க்வணித- - hands clapping; கங்கணம் ச - and (mingled with the) sound of bangles; முஹு:-அம்ஸ-லம்பி³த- - again and again on the shoulders (of the Gopikaas) placed; கர-அம்பு³ஜம் - hands like lotuses; ஶ்ரோணி-பி³ம்ப-³ - on the waist; சலத்-அம்ப³ரம் - fluttering of clothing; பஜ⁴த ராஸகேலி- - meditate on the Raas Dance; ரஸ-ட³ம்ப³ரம் - (with its) enthralling majesty;
Translation
The key notes of the flute set the tune giving the sweet song and the raagas a flow and rhythm. The soft beat of the feet of the dancers kept time with the very pleasant beats of the music. The clapping of the hands mingled with the tingling sound of the bangles. During the dance, time and again Thou placed Thy lotus hands on the shoulders of the Gopikaas. As they danced about, the clothings on their waists fluttered. On such enthralling majesty of the Raas Dance let us meditate.

Meaning
ஸ்பர்த⁴யா விரசித- - (as if )in competition performing; அனுகா³ன-க்ருத- - the singing one after the other (and) producing; தார-தார- - very loud; மது⁴ர-ஸ்வரே - beautiful strains; நர்தனே-அத² - (and) while dancing, then; லலித-அங்க-³ஹார- - the beautiful limbs captivatingly (moving); லுலித-அங்க-³ஹார- - displacing on the neck and body the necklaces; மணி-பூ⁴ஷணே - and begemmed ornaments; ஸம்மதே³ன - with extreme joy; க்ருத-புஷ்ப-வர்ஷம்- - doing flower showering; அலம்-உன்மிஷத்- - not batting the eyes; தி³விஷதா³ம் குலம் - the gods in groups; சின்மயே த்வயி - in the Pure Consciousness, i.e., in Thee; நிலீயமானம்-இவ - completely submerged as if; ஸம்முமோஹ - and were entranced; ஸவதூ⁴குலம் - along with their women-folk;
Translation
As though in competition, the singers raised their voices in successive strains as the musical notes reached higher in pitch. The beautiful limbs of the dancers moved delightfully displacing their necklaces and the begemmed ornaments on their body. The groups of gods watched with extreme joy and showered rains of flowers. Along with their women-folk they watched entranced completely submerged in the Pure Consciousness i.e. in Thee.

Meaning
ஸ்வின்ன-ஸன்ன- - sweating (and) tired; தனு-வல்லரீ - with a body like a creeper; தத³னு காபி நாம - there after some(one) indeed; பஶுபாங்க³னா - Gopikaa; காந்தம்-அம்ஸம்- - on the beautiful shoulders (of Thee); அவலம்ப³தே ஸ்ம - supported herself; தவ தாந்தி-பா⁴ர- - of Thee, (because of) the exhaustion weight; முகுல-ஈக்ஷணா - (making) half closed (her) eyes; காசித்- - another woman; ஆசலித-குந்தலா - with dishevelled hair; நவ-படீர-ஸார-க⁴ன-ஸௌரப⁴ம் - the fresh sandal paste's intense fragrance; வஞ்சனேன தவ - slyly ( to smell) on Thy (arm); ஸஞ்சுசும்ப³ பு⁴ஜம்- - kissed the arm; அஞ்சித-உரு- - sprouting big; புலக-அங்குரா - ecstatic horripilation;
Translation
One Gopikaa, slender and delicate like a creeper, tired and sweating, with drooping eyes out of fatigue, supported herself on Thy beautiful shoulder. Another woman with dishevelled hair, to smell the fragrance of the fresh sandal paste on Thy arm, slyly kissed Thy arm, having horripilation over her body in the process.

Meaning
காபி க³ண்ட³பு⁴வி - another one on the cheek area (of Thee); ஸன்னிதா⁴ய நிஜ க³ண்ட³ம்- - placing her own cheek; ஆகுலித-குண்ட³லம்- - (with) dangling earrings; புண்ய-பூர நிதி⁴:- - (she who was) of merits a full repository; அன்வவாப - intook; தவ-பூக-³சர்வித- - Thy betel chewed; ரஸ-அம்ருதம் - juice nectar like; இந்தி³ரா-விஹ்ருதி-மந்தி³ரம் - Laxmi's sporting field; பு⁴வன-ஸுந்த³ரம் - the most beautiful in all the worlds; ஹி நடன-அந்தரே - indeed during the dance; த்வாம்-அவாப்ய - Thee achieving; த³து⁴:-அங்க³னா: - attained the Gopikaas; கிமு ந ஸம்மத-³ - what not joyous; உன்மத-³த³ஶாந்தரம் - intoxication states;
Translation
Another one, who was a repository of merits, placed her own cheek on Thy cheek, with earrings dangling on them. She enjoyed the thrill as she intook the nectar like juice from the betel chewed by Thee. The Gopikaas, during the dance, having achieved Laxmi's sport field, Thee, the most beautiful in all the worlds, what states of joyous intoxication did they not attain?

கா³னமீஶ விரதம் க்ரமேண கில வாத்³யமேலனமுபாரதம்
ப்³ரஹ்மஸம்மத³ரஸாகுலா: ஸத³ஸி கேவலம் நன்ருதுரங்க³னா: ।

ஜ்யோதிஷாமபி கத³ம்ப³கம் தி³வி விலம்பி³தம் கிமபரம் ப்³ருவே ॥8॥
Meaning
கா³னம்-ஈஶ - the song O Lord; விரதம் க்ரமேண - stopped gradually; கில வாத்³ய-மேலனம்- - indeed the musical instruments; உபாரதம் - ceased; ப்³ரஹ்ம-ஸம்மத-³ - (in) the Brahmic bliss; ரஸ-ஆகுலா: - (and) joy deeply immersed; ஸத³ஸி கேவலம் - in a circle only; நன்ருது:-அங்க³னா: - kept dancing the women; ந-அவித³ன்-அபி ச - and not knowing also; நீவிகாம் கிமபி - of the knot of the string (loosening) anything also; குந்தலீம்-அபி - of the hair (dishevelled); ச கஞ்சுலீம் - and of the bodice; ஜ்யோதிஷாம்-அபி - of the stars also; கத³ம்ப³கம் - in their courses; தி³வி விலம்பி³தம் - in the sky stood still; கிம்-அபரம் ப்³ருவே - what more than this should I say;
Translation
O Lord! The singing stopped gradually and the musical instruments also ceased. But immersed deeply in the joy of Brahmic Bliss the women kept dancing in a circle. They were not even aware of the knot of clothing strings loosening or of their bodice having slipped or of their hair being dishevelled. The stars in the sky stood still in their courses, to enjoy all this. What more can I say?

Meaning
மோத³ஸீம்னி - in the highest bliss; பு⁴வனம் விலாப்ய - the world engulfing; விஹ்ருதிம் ஸமாப்ய ச - and the sport (dance) ending; தத: விபோ⁴ - then O Lord!; கேலி-ஸம்ம்ருதி³த- - the sport pressing (exerting); நிர்மல-அங்க-³ - the clean limbs; நவ-க⁴ர்ம-லேஶ- - fresh perspiration drops; ஸுப⁴க-³ஆத்மனாம் - on the beautiful bodied women; மன்மத-²அஸஹன- - the Cupid's shafts not being able to bear; சேதஸாம் - (with) such minds; பஷுப-யோஷிதாம் - of the cowherd women; ஸுக்ருத-சோதி³த:- - prompted by their meritorious deeds; தாவத்-ஆகலித-மூர்தி:- - then assuming forms; அத³தி⁴த² - (Thou) performed; மாரவீர-பரம- - an amorously great; உத்ஸவான் - festivity;
Translation
The world was engulfed in the highest bliss as the Raas Dance ended. The pure bodies of these women glowed with fresh perspiration drops caused by the dance, and who were unable to bear the shafts of Cupid any longer. O Lord! Prompted by the meritorious deeds of the Gopikaas, Thou assumed as many forms as they were in number and performed an amorously great festivity.

கேலி-பே⁴த-³ - by sports varied; பரிலோலிதாபி⁴:- - (who were) exhausted; அதி-லாலிதாபி⁴:- - (and were) fondly caressed; அப³லாலிபி⁴: - with those women; ஸ்வைரம்-ஈஶ - at will O Lord!; நனு ஸூரஜா-பயஸி - indeed (Thou) in the Yamunaa waters; சாரு-னாம் - beautifully indeed; விஹ்ருதிம் வ்யதா⁴: - sports performed; கானநே-அபி ச - (and) in the forests also and; விஸாரி-ஶீதல- - (where) spreading cool,; கிஶோர-மாருத- - gentle breeze; மனோஹரே - (was) enchanting; ஸூன-ஸௌரப⁴மயே - (filled with) the flower fragrance; விலேஸித² - (Thou) went around; விலாஸினீ-ஶத- - (with) the women in large numbers; விமோஹனம் - dazing them;
Translation
O Lord! The women were exhausted by the varied sports and were fondly caressed. Thou performed sports with them at will in the waters of Yamunaa.Thou also went around in the forests where a cool gentle breeze was blowing filled with the fragrance of flowers, which dazed the large number of women with ecstatic joy.

காமினீரிதி ஹி யாமினீஷு க²லு காமனீயகனிதே⁴ ப⁴வான்
பூர்ணஸம்மத³ரஸார்ணவம் கமபி யோகி³க³ம்யமனுபா⁴வயன் ।

காமினீ:-இதி ஹி - the women in this manner; யாமினீஷு க²லு - in the nights indeed; காமனீயகனிதே⁴ - O repository of all virtues!; ப⁴வான் - Thou; பூர்ண-ஸம்மத-³ - the immense bliss; ரஸ-அர்ணவம் - nectar ocean; கமபி - who so ever; யோகி³-க³ம்யம்- - yogi (may) attain; அனுபா⁴வயன் - making (them, the women) experience; ப்³ரஹ்ம-ஶங்கர-முகா²ன்- - in Brahmaa Shiva and other gods; அபி-இஹ் - even, here; பஶுப-அங்க³னாஸு - in (these) Gopikaas; ப³ஹுமானயன் - placing respect; ப⁴க்த-லோக- - to the devout people; க³மனீய-ரூப - attainable, of such nature; கமனீய க்ருஷ்ண - O Attractive One! O Krishna!; பரிபாஹி மாம் - protect me;
Translation
O Repository of all virtues! In this manner, Thou made the women experience the immense bliss of the nectar ocean in the nights. Such an experience only yogis may attain. This created in Brahma Shiva and other gods a feeling of respect for the Gopikaas. O Thou attainable to the devout people, of such a nature, O Attractive One! O Krishna! protect me.
