ஶ்லோக:
நிஶமய்ய தவாத² யானவார்தாம் ப்⁴ருஶமார்தா: பஶுபாலபா³லிகாஸ்தா: ।
கிமித³ம் கிமித³ம் கத²ம் ந்விதீமா: ஸமவேதா: பரிதே³விதான்யகுர்வன் ॥1॥
Meaning
நிஶமய்ய - hearing; தவ-அத² - (of) Thy, then; யான-வார்தாம் - departure news; ப்⁴ருஶம்-ஆர்தா: - very much saddened; பஶுபால-பா³லிகா:-தா: - the cowherd girls, they; கிம்-இத³ம் கிம்-இத³ம் - what is this, what is this; கத²ம் நு-இதி- - how is this, thus; இமா: ஸமவேதா: - these (girls) gathered; பரிதே³விதானி- - lamentations; அகுர்வன் - doing;
Translation
Then hearing the news of Thy impending departure the cowherd girls were very much saddened. They gathered together and lamented saying -'What is this? How and why is this happening?'
ஶ்லோக:
கருணானிதி⁴ரேஷ நந்த³ஸூனு: கத²மஸ்மான் விஸ்ருஜேத³னந்யனாதா²: ।
ப³த ந: கிமு தை³வமேவமாஸீதி³தி தாஸ்த்வத்³க³தமானஸா விலேபு: ॥2॥
Meaning
கருணா-னிதி⁴:- - the compassion repository; ஏஷ நந்த-³ஸூனு: - this Nanda's son; கத²ம்-அஸ்மான்- - how come us; விஸ்ருஜேத்-அனந்யனாதா²: - forsake, who do not have any other support; ப³த ந: கிமு - Alas our what; தை³வம்-ஏவம்-ஆஸீத்- - fate of this kind was; இதி தா:- - thus they; த்வத்-க³த-மானஸா - in Thee fixed hearted; விலேபு: - bemoaned;
Translation
The abode of compassion, Nanda's son, Krishna, how can he forsake us, who have no other support, except him. Alas what kind of fate do we have.' The girls with their hearts fixed on Thee bemoaned.
ஶ்லோக:
சரமப்ரஹரே ப்ரதிஷ்ட²மான: ஸஹ பித்ரா நிஜமித்ரமண்ட³லைஶ்ச ।
பரிதாபப⁴ரம் நிதம்பி³னீனாம் ஶமயிஷ்யன் வ்யமுச: ஸகா²யமேகம் ॥3॥
Meaning
சரம-ப்ரஹரே - in the last part (of night); ப்ரதிஷ்ட²மான: - leaving; ஸஹ பித்ரா - with (Thy) father; நிஜ-மித்ர-மண்ட³லை:-ச - and with his friends' groups; பரிதாப-ப⁴ரம் - of the sorrowful; நிதம்பி³னீனாம் - beauties (Gopikas); ஶமயிஷ்யன் - to assuage; வ்யமுச: - sent; ஸகா²யம்-ஏகம் - one friend;
Translation
Thou were to leave with Thy father and a group of his friends in the last lap of the night. Thou sent one of Thy companions to the beautiful Gopikas who were very sorrowful, to assuage their grief.
ஶ்லோக:
அசிராது³பயாமி ஸன்னிதி⁴ம் வோ ப⁴விதா ஸாது⁴ மயைவ ஸங்க³மஶ்ரீ: ।
அம்ருதாம்பு³னிதௌ⁴ நிமஜ்ஜயிஷ்யே த்³ருதமித்யாஶ்வஸிதா வதூ⁴ரகார்ஷீ: ॥4॥
Meaning
அசிராத்-உபயாமி - very soon (I) will come back; ஸன்னிதி⁴ம் வ: - near you all; ப⁴விதா ஸாது⁴ - (and) will be good (many); மயா-ஏவ - with me only; ஸங்க³ம-ஶ்ரீ: - meetings happy; அம்ருத-அம்பு³னிதௌ⁴ - in the nectar ocean; நிமஜ்ஜயிஷ்யே - I shall immerse you; த்³ருதம்-இதி-ஆஶ்வாஸிதா: - soon, thus consolations; வதூ⁴:-அகார்ஷீ: - to the girls did give;
Translation
I shall come back near you very soon. You will have many good and happy meetings with me. I will soon immerse you in the nectar of bliss ocean.' Thus Thou gave consolations to the girls.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸவிஷாத³ப⁴ரம் ஸயாச்ஞமுச்சை: அதிதூ³ரம் வனிதாபி⁴ரீக்ஷ்யமாண: ।
ம்ருது³ தத்³தி³ஶி பாதயன்னபாங்கா³ன் ஸப³லோக்ரூரரதே²ன நிர்க³தோபூ⁴: ॥5॥
Meaning
ஸவிஷாத³ப⁴ரம் - with great sorrow; ஸயாச்ஞம்- - begging; உச்சை:-அதிதூ³ரம் - loudly till far; வனிதாபி⁴:- - by the women's; ஈக்ஷ்யமாண: - following glances; ம்ருது³ தத்-தி³ஶி - gently in that direction; பாதயன்- - casting; அபாங்கா³ன் - sidelong glances; ஸப³ல:- - with Balaraama; அக்ரூர-ரதே²ன - in Akrura's chariot; நிர்க³த:-அபூ⁴: - departed;
Translation
The women followed Thee till far loudly and piteously begging and gazing with entreating eyes. Thou cast soft sidelong glances in that direction and departed with Balaraama in Akrura's chariot.
ஶ்லோக:
அனஸா ப³ஹுலேன வல்லவானாம் மனஸா சானுக³தோத² வல்லபா⁴னாம் ।
வனமார்தம்ருக³ம் விஷண்ணவ்ருக்ஷம் ஸமதீதோ யமுனாதடீமயாஸீ: ॥6॥
Meaning
அனஸா ப³ஹுலேன - by carts many; வல்லவானாம் மனஸா - (and) by the Gopikaa's minds; ச-அனுக³த:-அத² - being followed then; வல்லபா⁴னாம் - by the Gopas; வனம்-ஆர்தம்ருக³ம் - the forests with the sorrowful animals; விஷண்ண-வ்ருக்ஷம் - and the sad trees; ஸமதீத: - crossed; யமுனா-தடீம்- - and the banks of Yamunaa; அயாஸீ: - reached;
Translation
Many carts with Gopas followed Thee as also the minds and thoughts of the Gopikas. Thou crossed the forest with sorrowful animals and sad trees and reached the banks of the Yamunaa river.
ஶ்லோக:
நியமாய நிமஜ்ய வாரிணி த்வாமபி⁴வீக்ஷ்யாத² ரதே²பி கா³ந்தி³னேய: ।
விவஶோஜனி கிம் ந்வித³ம் விபோ⁴ஸ்தே நனு சித்ரம் த்வவலோகனம் ஸமந்தாத் ॥7॥
Meaning
நியமாய நிமஜ்ய - for (the daily) duties bathing; வாரிணி த்வாம் - in the waters (of Jamunaa), Thee; அபி⁴வீக்ஷ்ய-அத² - seeing then; ரதே²-அபி - on the chariot also; கா³ந்தி³னேய: - Gaandinee (Akrura); விவஶ:-அஜனி - helpless became; கிம் நு-இத³ம் - what indeed is this; விபோ⁴:-தே - O Lord Thy; நனு சித்ரம் து- - indeed wonder but; அவலோகனம் - being seen; ஸமந்தாத் - from everywhere;
Translation
Akrura, the son of Gaandini was bathing in the waters of the river to perform his daily duties. He saw Thee in the water and also saw Thee on the chariot. He was overwhelmed with wonder and became helpless as to what it all was. But is there any wonder in Thy being seen from everywhere as Thou are omnipresent!
ஶ்லோக:
புனரேஷ நிமஜ்ய புண்யஶாலீ புருஷம் த்வாம் பரமம் பு⁴ஜங்க³போ⁴கே³ ।
அரிகம்பு³க³தா³ம்பு³ஜை: ஸ்பு²ரந்தம் ஸுரஸித்³தௌ⁴க⁴பரீதமாலுலோகே ॥8॥
Meaning
புன:-ஏஷ - again this (Akrura); நிமஜ்ய - dipping (in the waters); புண்யஶாலீ - (this) meritorious one,; புருஷம் த்வாம் பரமம் - Being Thee Supreme,; பு⁴ஜங்க-³போ⁴கே³ - on the serpent's body; அரி-கம்பு³-க³தா³-அம்பு³ஜை: - with the discus, conch, mace and lotus; ஸ்பு²ரந்தம் - resplendent; ஸுர-ஸித்³த-⁴ஔக-⁴பரீதம் - by gods and siddhaas' groups surrounded; ஆலுலோகே - (he) saw;
Translation
Akrura again took a dip in the water. The meritorious and fortunate man that he was, he saw Thee The Supreme Being reclining on the Shesha serpent's body bed, resplendent and adorned with the discus, conch, mace and lotus. Thou were surrounded by groups of gods and various siddhaas.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸ ததா³ பரமாத்மஸௌக்²யஸிந்தௌ⁴ வினிமக்³ன: ப்ரணுவன் ப்ரகாரபே⁴தை³: ।
அவிலோக்ய புனஶ்ச ஹர்ஷஸிந்தோ⁴ரனுவ்ருத்த்யா புலகாவ்ருதோ யயௌ த்வாம் ॥9॥
Meaning
ஸ ததா³ - he then; பரமாத்ம-ஸௌக்²ய-ஸிந்தௌ⁴ - in the supreme bliss ocean; வினிமக்³ன: ப்ரணுவன் - immersed (and) praising; ப்ரகார-பே⁴தை³: - in different ways (of Saguna and Nirguna); அவிலோக்ய - not seeing Thee; புன:-ச - and again; ஹர்ஷ-ஸிந்தோ⁴:- - in the bliss ocean; அனுவ்ருத்த்யா - continuing to be; புலக-ஆவ்ருத: - with horripilation all over; யயௌ த்வாம் - went to Thee;
Translation
He was then immersed in the ocean of supreme bliss and sang the praises unto Thy Saguna and Nirguna forms. Even as Thy vision disappeared, he continued to experience the unlimited bliss and with horripilations all over his body, he went to Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
கிமு ஶீதலிமா மஹான் ஜலே யத் புலகோஸாவிதி சோதி³தேன தேன ।
அதிஹர்ஷனிருத்தரேண ஸார்த⁴ம் ரத²வாஸீ பவனேஶ பாஹி மாம் த்வம் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
கிமு ஶீதலிமா - is it cool; மஹான் ஜலே யத் - very much in the water so that; புலக:-அஸௌ- - horripilation this; இதி சோதி³தேன - thus asked; தேன அதி-ஹர்ஷ- - (with) him (because of) extreme bliss; நிருத்தரேண - speechless; ஸார்த⁴ம் ரத²வாஸீ - with (him, Akrura) seated on the chariot; பவனேஶ - O Lord of Guruvaayur; பாஹி மாம் த்வம் - save me Thou;
Translation
Thou asked him if the water was so cold that he had horripilation on his body, as if not knowing the cause. Akrura was speechless because he was immersed in extreme bliss. Thou sitting with him on the chariot, O Lord of Guruvaayur! Do save me.
