ஶ்லோக:
தத³னு நந்த³மமந்த³ஶுபா⁴ஸ்பத³ம் ந்ருபபுரீம் கரதா³னக்ருதே க³தம்।
ஸமவலோக்ய ஜகா³த³ ப⁴வத்பிதா விதி³தகம்ஸஸஹாயஜனோத்³யம: ॥1॥
Meaning
தத³னு நந்த³ம்- - after that to Nanda; அமந்த-³ஶுப-⁴ஆஸ்பத³ம் - (who is) of non dimmed virtues the abode; ந்ருப-புரீம் - to the king's city; கர-தா³ன-க்ருதே க³தம் - to pay his tributes (taxes), who had gone; ஸமவலோக்ய - seeing (meeting); ஜகா³த³ ப⁴வத்-பிதா - said (to Nanda), Thy father (Vasudeva); விதி³த-கம்ஸ- - who knew of Kansa's; ஸஹாயஜன-உத்³யம: - and Kansa's supporters' activities;
Translation
Thereafter, Nanda (who is the abode of undiminished virtues), went to the king's city to pay his tributes (taxes). On meeting him, Thy father Vasudeva who knew of the activities of Kansa and his supporters, told him that.
ஶ்லோக:
அயி ஸகே² தவ பா³லகஜன்ம மாம் ஸுக²யதேத்³ய நிஜாத்மஜஜன்மவத் ।
இதி ப⁴வத்பித்ருதாம் வ்ரஜனாயகே ஸமதி⁴ரோப்ய ஶஶம்ஸ தமாத³ராத் ॥2॥
Meaning
அயி ஸகே² - O friend!; தவ பா³லக ஜன்ம - to you a son's birth; மாம்-ஸுக²யதே-அத்³ய - gives me pleasure now; நிஜ-ஆத்மஜ-ஜன்மவத் - my own son's birth like; இதி ப⁴வத்-பித்ருதாம் - thus Thy fatherhood; வ்ரஜனாயகே ஸமதி⁴ரோப்ய - to the cowherd chief, (he cleverly) attributed; ஶஶம்ஸ தம்-ஆத³ராத் - and praised him with affection;
Translation
"O Friend! The birth of a son to you gives me pleasure as if a son were born to myself." Thus he cleverly attributed Thy fatherhood on Nanda, and praised him with affection.
ஶ்லோக:
இஹ ச ஸந்த்யனிமித்தஶதானி தே கடகஸீம்னி ததோ லகு⁴ க³ம்யதாம் ।
இதி ச தத்³வசஸா வ்ரஜனாயகோ ப⁴வத³பாயபி⁴யா த்³ருதமாயயௌ ॥3॥
Meaning
இஹ ச ஸந்தி- - and here there are; அனிமித்த-ஶதானி - bad omens in hundreds; தே கடக-ஸீம்னி - at your residence; தத: லகு⁴ க³ம்யதாம் - therefore soon (you) should go; இதி ச தத்-வசஸா - and thus, by his (Vaudeva's) words; வ்ரஜனாயக: - the cowherd chieftain (Nandagopa); ப⁴வத்-அபாய-பி⁴யா - to Thee danger apprehending; த்³ருதம்-ஆயயௌ - quickly returned;
Translation
"Here there are bad omens in hundreds and soon at your residence also it will not be safe, so you should return soon". Thus by Vasudeva's words, apprehending danger to Thee, Nanda quickly returned.
ஶ்லோக:
அவஸரே க²லு தத்ர ச காசன வ்ரஜபதே³ மது⁴ராக்ருதிரங்க³னா ।
தரலஷட்பத³லாலிதகுந்தலா கபடபோதக தே நிகடம் க³தா ॥4॥
Meaning
அவஸரே க²லு தத்ர ச - at that time, indeed, and there; காசன வ்ரஜபதே³ - some (female) in Gokula; மது⁴ர-ஆக்ருதி:-அங்க³னா - beautiful looking woman; தரல-ஷட்பத-³ - (with) hovering bees; லாலித-குந்தலா - around (her) locks of hair (due to the sweet smell); கபட-போதக - (O Thou) in the guise of a child!; தே நிகடம் க³தா - went near Thee;
Translation
Just then there in Gokula, some beautiful looking woman with honey bees hovering around the sweet smelling flowers in her hair locks, entered. O Thou! In the guise of a child, she approached Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸபதி³ ஸா ஹ்ருதபா³லகசேதனா நிஶிசரான்வயஜா கில பூதனா ।
வ்ரஜவதூ⁴ஷ்விஹ கேயமிதி க்ஷணம் விம்ருஶதீஷு ப⁴வந்தமுபாத³தே³ ॥5॥
Meaning
ஸபதி³ ஸா - quickly she; ஹ்ருத-பா³லக-சேதனா - who had taken the children' lives; நிஶிசர-அன்வய-ஜா - of demon clan born; கில பூதனா - indeed Pootanaa; வ்ரஜ-வதூ⁴ஷு-இஹ - among the Vraja women here; கா-இயம்-இதி - who is this, thus; க்ஷணம் விம்ருஶதீஷு - for a moment wondering; ப⁴வந்தம்-உபாத³தே³ - Thee lifted up (in her arms);
Translation
Quickly she, Pootanaa, born in the clan of demons, who had taken the lives of many children, lifted Thee up, even as the Vraja women were for a second wondering as to who she was.
ஶ்லோக:
லலிதபா⁴வவிலாஸஹ்ருதாத்மபி⁴ர்யுவதிபி⁴: ப்ரதிரோத்³து⁴மபாரிதா ।
ஸ்தனமஸௌ ப⁴வனாந்தனிஷேது³ஷீ ப்ரத³து³ஷீ ப⁴வதே கபடாத்மனே ॥5॥
Meaning
லலித-பா⁴வ-விலாஸ- - by her charming appearance and graceful movements; ஹ்ருத-ஆத்மபி⁴:-யுவதிபி⁴: - with captivated minds, the young women; ப்ரதிரோத்³து⁴ம்-அபாரிதா - to deter (stop) not being able; ஸ்தனம்-அஸௌ - her breasts this (Pootanaa); ப⁴வன-அந்த-னிஷேது³ஷீ - inside the house sitting; ப்ரத³து³ஷீ ப⁴வதே - gave (her breasts) to Thee; கபட-ஆத்மனே - the illusive child;
Translation
Her charming appearance and graceful movements captivated the minds of the Gopis who were unable to stop her from making advances. So this Pootanaa took her seat inside the house as she applied Thee, the illusive child, to her breasts.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸமதி⁴ருஹ்ய தத³ங்கமஶங்கிதஸ்த்வமத² பா³லகலோபனரோஷித: ।
மஹதி³வாம்ரப²லம் குசமண்ட³லம் ப்ரதிசுசூஷித² து³ர்விஷதூ³ஷிதம் ॥7॥
Meaning
ஸமதி⁴ருஹ்ய தத்-அங்கம்- - climbing in her lap; அஶங்கித:-த்வம்-அத² - unhesitatingly Thou then; பா³லக-லோபன-ரோஷித: - by the children' killing angered; மஹத்-இவ-ஆம்ர-ப²லம் - huge, as if it were a mango fruit; குச-மண்ட³லம் ப்ரதி-சுசூஷித² - the breast, sucked well; து³ர்விஷ-தூ³ஷிதம் - with strong poison smeared;
Translation
Thou who were angered by her killing of the children, unhesitatingly climbed in her lap and sucked well her poison smeared breasts as if it were a huge mango fruit.
ஶ்லோக:
அஸுபி⁴ரேவ ஸமம் த⁴யதி த்வயி ஸ்தனமஸௌ ஸ்தனிதோபமனிஸ்வனா ।
நிரபதத்³ப⁴யதா³யி நிஜம் வபு: ப்ரதிக³தா ப்ரவிஸார்ய பு⁴ஜாவுபௌ⁴ ॥8॥
Meaning
அஸுபி⁴:-ஏவ ஸமம் - her life breath along with; த⁴யதி த்வயி ஸ்தனம்- - sucking (when) Thou were the breast; அஸௌ ஸ்தனித-உபம-னிஸ்வனா - this Pootanaa, with thunder like noise; நிரபதத்- - fell down; ப⁴யதா³யி நிஜம் வபு: - ferocious her own body; ப்ரதிக³தா - reverting to; ப்ரவிஸார்ய பு⁴ஜௌ-உபௌ⁴ - out stretching both the hands;
Translation
Thou sucked the breast along with her life force. This Pootanaa fell down with a thunder like noise reverting to her natural ferocious body with both hands stretching out.
ஶ்லோக:
ப⁴யத³கோ⁴ஷணபீ⁴ஷணவிக்³ரஹஶ்ரவணத³ர்ஶனமோஹிதவல்லவே ।
வ்ரஜபதே³ தது³ர:ஸ்த²லகே²லனம் நனு ப⁴வந்தமக்³ருஹ்ணத கோ³பிகா: ॥9॥
Meaning
ப⁴யத-³கோ⁴ஷண- - the terrifying sound; பீ⁴ஷண-விக்³ரஹ- - and the frightful form; ஶ்ரவண-த³ர்ஶன- - hearing and seeing; மோஹித-வல்லவே - (which) stunned the gopas; வ்ரஜபதே³ - and (the whole of) Gokul; தத்-உத³ர:-ஸ்த²ல- - on her chest; கே²லனம் நனு - playing indeed; ப⁴வந்தம்-அக்³ருஹ்ணத - Thee picked up; கோ³பிகா: - the Gopis;
Translation
The whole of Gokul stood stunned hearing the terrifying sound and seeing the frightful form. The Gopis picked Thee up even as Thou were playing on the chest of the dead demoness.
ஶ்லோக:
பு⁴வனமங்க³லனாமபி⁴ரேவ தே யுவதிபி⁴ர்ப³ஹுதா⁴ க்ருதரக்ஷண: ।
த்வமயி வாதனிகேதனநாத² மாமக³த³யன் குரு தாவகஸேவகம் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
பு⁴வன-மங்க³ல- - O Thou who confers auspiciousness on the world!; நாமபி⁴:-ஏவ தே - by Thy name alone; யுவதிபி⁴:-ப³ஹுதா⁴ - by the young women, in various ways; க்ருதரக்ஷண: த்வம்-அயி - Thou were protected, O Thou!; வாதனிகேதனநாத² - Lord of Guruvaayur!; மாம்-அக³த³யன் - making me devoid of ailments; குரு தாவக-ஸேவகம் - make me Thy devotee;
Translation
O Thou! Who confers auspiciousness on to the world, the young women protected Thee in various ways with chanting Thy names alone. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Making me devoid of my ailments, make me Thy devotee.
