வைகுண்ட² வர்தி⁴தப³லோத² ப⁴வத்ப்ரஸாதா³-
த³ம்போ⁴ஜயோனிரஸ்ருஜத் கில ஜீவதே³ஹான் ।
ஸ்தா²ஸ்னூனி பூ⁴ருஹமயானி ததா² திரஶ்சாம்
ஜாதிம் மனுஷ்யனிவஹானபி தே³வபே⁴தா³ன் ॥1॥
Meaning
வைகுண்ட² - O Lord of Vaikuntha loka !; வர்தி⁴த-ப³ல: -அத² - (Brahmaa) whose strength had enhanced then; ப⁴வத்-ப்ரஸாதா³த்- - by Thy grace; அம்போ⁴ஜ்யோனி: - - the lotus born (Brahmaa); அஸ்ருஜத் கில - created it is said; ஜீவதே³ஹான் - bodies for jeevas; ஸ்தா²னூனி - the non-moving entities (trees etc.); பூ⁴ருஹமயானி - which grow on the earth; ததா² திரஶ்சாம் ஜாதிம் - and animals, birds etc.; மனுஷ்ய-னிவஹான்-அபி - and also human kind; தே³வபே⁴தா³ன் - and various divine beings;
Translation
O Lord of Vaikuntha! by Thy grace, with increased spiritual powers, Brahmaa started creation. He created varieties of beings, those that grow on earth and are non-moving like trees etc., as well as the moving, like animals birds etc., human beings and various divine beings. These serve as bodies for the jeevas to enter into.
ஶ்லோக:
மித்²யாக்³ரஹாஸ்மிமதிராக³விகோபபீ⁴தி-
ரஜ்ஞானவ்ருத்திமிதி பஞ்சவிதா⁴ம் ஸ ஸ்ருஷ்ட்வா ।
உத்³தா³மதாமஸபதா³ர்த²விதா⁴னதூ³ன -
ஸ்தேனே த்வதீ³யசரணஸ்மரணம் விஶுத்³த்⁴யை ॥2॥
Meaning
மித்²யா-ஆக்³ரஹ- - false apprehension; அஸ்மிமதி-ராக-³ - egoism, attachment; விகோப-பீ⁴தி:- - anger and fear; அஜ்ஞானவ்ருத்திம்-இதி - effects of ignorance, these; பஞ்சவிதா⁴ம் - of five kinds; ஸ ஸ்ருஷ்ட்வா - Brahmaa having created; உத்³தா³ம-தாமஸ-பதா³ர்த-²விதா⁴ன்-அதூ³ன:- - and repenting for having created these extremely taamasic qualities; தேனே - resorted to; த்வதீ³ய-சரண-ஸ்மரணம் - on Thy lotus feet contemplation; விஶுத்³த்⁴யை - for self purification;
Translation
Brahma then created the five-fold effects of ignorance,which are wrong apprehension, egoism, attachment, anger and fear. Having created these extremely negative qualities and repenting for doing so, he resorted to meditate on Thy lotus feet for self purification.
ஶ்லோக:
தாவத் ஸஸர்ஜ மனஸா ஸனகம் ஸனந்த³ம்
பூ⁴ய: ஸனாதனமுனிம் ச ஸனத்குமாரம் ।
தே ஸ்ருஷ்டிகர்மணி து தேன நியுஜ்யமானா-
ஸ்த்வத்பாத³ப⁴க்திரஸிகா ஜக்³ருஹுர்ன வாணீம் ॥3॥
Meaning
தாவத் ஸஸர்ஜ மனஸா - then he created from his mind; ஸனகம் ஸனந்த³ம் - (sages) Sanaka, Sananda; பூ⁴ய: ஸனாதனமுனிம் ச ஸனத்குமாரம் - also Sanaatana Muni and Sanat kumara; தே ஸ்ருஷ்டிகர்மணி து - they , in the job of creation; தேன நியுஜ்யமானா: - - by Brahmaa, though asked to engage; த்வத்-பாத-³ப⁴க்தி-ரஸிகா - (these sages) who were immersed in devotion to Thy feet; ஜக்³ருஹு: -ன வாணீம் - did not heed (his) words;
Translation
Brahmaa then from his mind created Sanaka, Sananda, Sanaatana Muni and Sanat Kumaras.Even though they were directed by Brahmaa to engage in the work of creation, they did not heed his words because they were highly devoted to Thy feet.
ஶ்லோக:
தாவத் ப்ரகோபமுதி³தம் ப்ரதிருந்த⁴தோஸ்ய
ப்⁴ரூமத்⁴யதோஜனி ம்ருடோ³ ப⁴வதே³கதே³ஶ: ।
நாமானி மே குரு பதா³னி ச ஹா விரிஞ்சே-
த்யாதௌ³ ருரோத³ கில தேன ஸ ருத்³ரனாமா ॥4॥
Meaning
தாவத் - then; ப்ரகோபம்-உதி³தம் - the anger which arose in him; ப்ரதிருந்த⁴த: - - and who was suppressing it; அஸ்ய ப்⁴ரூமத்⁴யத: - - from his (Brahmaa's) middle of the eyebrows; அஜனி ம்ருட:³ - was born Mrida; ப⁴வத்-ஏக-தே³ஶ: - who was a part incarnation of Thine; நாமானி மே குரு - provide me with names; பதா³னி ச - and abodes; ஹா விரிஞ்ச- - O Brahmaa; இதி-ஆதௌ³ ருரோத³ - thus at once he cried out; கில தேன ஸ ருத்³ரனாமா - because of that he came to be known as Rudra;
Translation
A great anger arose in Brahma, because he was refused his bidding by his mental sons, which he tried to suppress. This caused the birth of Mrida from between his eyebrows, who is a part incarnation of Thine. Mrida at once cried out and told Brahmaa to provide him with names and abodes. Thus Mrida came to be known as Rudra.
ஶ்லோக:
ஏகாத³ஶாஹ்வயதயா ச விபி⁴ன்னரூபம்
ருத்³ரம் விதா⁴ய த³யிதா வனிதாஶ்ச த³த்வா ।
தாவந்த்யத³த்த ச பதா³னி ப⁴வத்ப்ரணுன்ன:
ப்ராஹ ப்ரஜாவிரசனாய ச ஸாத³ரம் தம் ॥5॥
Meaning
ஏகாத³ஶ-ஆஹ்வயதயா - with eleven names; ச விபி⁴ன்ன-ரூபம் - and different forms; ருத்³ரம் விதா⁴ய - to Rudra giving; த³யிதா: வனிதா: -ச த³த்வா - and also giving eleven dear wives; தாவந்தி-அத³த்த ச பதா³னி - and as many abodes were also given; ப⁴வத்-ப்ரணுன்ன: - (then) impelled by Thee; ப்ராஹ ப்ரஜா-விரசனாய - (Brahmaa) requested for the creation of beings; ச ஸாத³ரம் தம் - to him (Rudra) humbly;
Translation
Brahmaa then prompted by Thee, gave Rudra eleven names, forms, abodes and as many wives and humbly requested him to help in the creative process.
ஶ்லோக:
ருத்³ராபி⁴ஸ்ருஷ்டப⁴யதா³க்ருதிருத்³ரஸங்க-⁴
ஸம்பூர்யமாணபு⁴வனத்ரயபீ⁴தசேதா: ।
மா மா ப்ரஜா: ஸ்ருஜ தபஶ்சர மங்க³லாயே-
த்யாசஷ்ட தம் கமலபூ⁴ர்ப⁴வதீ³ரிதாத்மா ॥6॥
Meaning
ருத்³ர-அபி⁴ஸ்ருஷ்ட- - Rudra's creation; ப⁴யத-³ஆக்ருதி-ருத்³ரஸங்க-⁴ - (consisting) of fierce looking hosts of Rudraas; ஸம்பூர்யமாண-பு⁴வனத்ரய- - filling up the three worlds; பீ⁴த-சேதா: - and getting frightened by them; மா மா ப்ரஜா: ஸ்ருஜ - (Brahmaa said) do not, do not procreate any more beings; தப: -சர - do penance; மங்க்³லாய- - for the welfare (of the world); இதி-ஆசஷ்ட தம் கமலபூ⁴: - - thus said the lotus born Brahmaa to him; ப⁴வத-ஈரிதாத்மா - by Thee being prompted from within;
Translation
Rudraa's creation consisted of fierce looking Rudras,which were filling up the three worlds. Brahmaa was frightened by them, and from within being prompted by Thee, told Rudra not to create any more beings, and asked him to do penance for the benefit of the world.

தஸ்யாத² ஸர்க³ரஸிகஸ்ய மரீசிரத்ரி-
ஸ்தத்ராஙிக³ரா: க்ரதுமுனி: புலஹ: புலஸ்த்ய: ।
அங்கா³தஜ³ாயத ப்⁴ருகு³ஶ்ச வஸிஷ்ட²த³க்ஷௌ
ஶ்ரீனாரத³ஶ்ச ப⁴க³வன் ப⁴வத³ங்க்⁴ரிதா³ஸ: ॥7॥
Meaning
தஸ்ய-அத² - thereafter, from him (Brahmaa); ஸர்க-³ரஸிகஸ்ய - who was intent on creation; மரீசி: -அத்ரி: - - Mareechi, Atri; தத்ர-அஙிக³ரா: - and also Angiraas; க்ரதுமுனி: புலஹ: புலஸ்த்ய: - Kratumuni, Pulaha, Pulastya; அங்கா³த்-அஜாயத - from his body were born; ப்⁴ருகு³:-ச வஸிஷ்ட-²த³க்ஷௌ - also Bhrigu, Vasishtha and Dakshas; ஶ்ரீ-னாரத:³ -ச - and Shri Naarada; ப⁴க³வன் - O Lord!; ப⁴வத்-அங்க்⁴ரி-தா³ஸ: - who is devoted to Thy lotus feet;
Translation
Brahmaa, who was intent on creation, from his own body created (the sages) Mareechi, Atri, Angiraas, Kratumuni, Pulaha, Pulastya, Bhrigu, Vasishtha, the Dakshas and also Shri Naarada, who is a devotee of Thy lotus feet.

த⁴ர்மாதி³கானபி⁴ஸ்ருஜன்னத² கர்த³மம் ச

Meaning
த⁴ர்ம-ஆதி³கான்-அபி⁴ஸ்ருஜன்- - Dharmadevas and others having created; அத² கர்த³மம் ச - and also Kardama; வாணீம் விதா⁴ய - then after creating Saraswati; விதி⁴: - - Brahmaa; அங்கஜ³-ஸங்குல: -அபூ⁴த் - was afflicted by desire; த்வத்-போ³தி⁴தை: - - (then) prompted by Thee; ஸனக-த³க்ஷ-முகை²: - - by Sanaka, Daksha and others; தனூஜை:-உத்³போ³தி⁴த: -ச - by his own sons enlightened; விரராம - refrained; தம: விமுஞ்சன் - and gave up ignorance;
Translation
Brahmaa further created Dharmadeva, sage Kardama and then Saraswati. He was then overcome with desire for her, his own creation. However, prompted by Thee, Sanaka Daksha and his other sons enlightened him and he gave up desire, being disillusioned.
ஶ்லோக:
வேதா³ன் புராணனிவஹானபி ஸர்வவித்³யா:
குர்வன் நிஜானநக³ணாச்சதுரானநோஸௌ ।
புத்ரேஷு தேஷு வினிதா⁴ய ஸ ஸர்க³வ்ருத்³தி⁴-
மப்ராப்னுவம்ஸ்தவ பதா³ம்பு³ஜமாஶ்ரிதோபூ⁴த் ॥9॥
Meaning
வேதா³ன் புராண-னிவஹான்- - the Vedas and all the Puraanas; அபி ஸர்வ-வித்³யா: - also all the other branches of learning; குர்வன் நிஜ-ஆனந-க³ணாத்- - bringing out from all his faces; சது:-ஆனந-அஸௌ - that four faced (Brahmaa); புத்ரேஷு தேஷு வினிதா⁴ய - to his those sons having imparted; ஸ ஸர்க-³வ்ருத்³தி⁴ம்-அப்ராப்னுவன்- - and he unable to further the creation; தவ பதா³ம்பு³ஜம்-ஆஶ்ரித: - அபூ⁴த் - at Thy lotus feet took refuge;
Translation
Brahmaa then brought out the Vedas and all the Puraanas and all the other branches of learning, from his four faces and taught them to his sons. He then found himself unable to further the process of creation and so he took refuge at Thy lotus feet.

ஜானந்னுபாயமத² தே³ஹமஜோ விபஜ⁴்ய
ஸ்ரீபும்ஸபா⁴வமபஜ⁴ன்மனுதத்³வதூ⁴ப்⁴யாம் ।
தாப்⁴யாம் ச மானுஷகுலானி விவர்த⁴யம்ஸ்த்வம்
கோ³விந்த³ மாருதபுரேஶ நிருந்தி⁴ ரோகா³ன் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
ஜானந்-உபாயம்-அத² - knowing the technique then; தே³ஹம்-அஜ: விபஜ⁴்ய - Brahmaa, dividing his body into two; ஸ்த்ரீ-பும்ஸ-பா⁴வம்-அபஜ⁴த்- - assumed the forms of female and male; மனு-தத்-வதூ⁴ப்⁴யாம் - as Manu and his wife (Shataroopaa); தாப்⁴யாம் ச - through them; மானுஷ-குலானி விவர்த⁴யன்- - then multiplying the human race; த்வம் கோ³விந்த்³ மாருதபுரேஶ - Thou O Govind! Lord of Guruvaayur!; நிருந்தி⁴ ரோகா³ன் - (kindly) eradicate my ailments;
Translation
Then prompted by Thee and knowing the technique Brahmaa, from the two sides of his body created the male and the female, named Manu and his wife Shataroopa. Through them he then multiplied the human race. Thou O Govinda! Lord of Guruvaayur! kindly eradicate my ailments.
