பட²ந்தோ நாமானி ப்ரமத³ப⁴ரஸிந்தௌ⁴ நிபதிதா:
ஸ்மரந்தோ ரூபம் தே வரத³ கத²யந்தோ கு³ணகதா²: ।
சரந்தோ யே ப⁴க்தாஸ்த்வயி க²லு ரமந்தே பரமமூ-
நஹம் த⁴ன்யான் மன்யே ஸமதி⁴க³தஸர்வாபி⁴லஷிதான் ॥1॥
Meaning
பட²ந்த: - repeating; நாமானி - (Thy) names; ப்ரமத³ப⁴ர ஸிந்தௌ⁴ - in the ocean of Bliss; நிபதிதா: - submerged; ஸ்மரந்த: - meditating on; ரூபம் தே - Thy form; வரத³ - O Bestower of boons!; கத²யந்த: - narrating (to one another); கு³ணகதா²: - (Thy) deeds and excellences; சரந்த: - moving about freely; யே ப⁴க்தா: - those devotees (who); த்வயி க²லு ரமந்தே பரம் - in Thee, indeed, immersed in the Supreme Bliss; அமூன் அஹம் - such (devotees) I; த⁴ன்யான் மன்யே - consider to be really blessed; ஸமதி⁴க³த-ஸர்வ-அபி⁴லஷிதான் - (they who) have attained fulfilment of all desires (i.e. who have no other desire other than the Lord);
Translation
O Bestower of Boons! I consider those devotees of Thine most fortunate, who always chant Thy sacred names, and so revel in the ocean of Bliss. Contemplating on Thy divine form they are engaged in narrating Thy divine stories. Moving about freely, they are immersed in the joy of Thy thoughts. They, indeed, have fulfilled all their desires in life.
ஶ்லோக:
க³த³க்லிஷ்டம் கஷ்டம் தவ சரணஸேவாரஸப⁴ரே-
ப்யனாஸக்தம் சித்தம் ப⁴வதி ப³த விஷ்ணோ குரு த³யாம் ।
ப⁴வத்பாதா³ம்போ⁴ஜஸ்மரணரஸிகோ நாமனிவஹா-
நஹம் கா³யம் கா³யம் குஹசன விவத்ஸ்யாமி விஜனே ॥2॥
Meaning
க³த³ க்லிஷ்டம் - by diseases tormented; கஷ்டம் - what a pity; தவ சரண - Thy feet; ஸேவா-ரஸ-ப⁴ரே அபி - even for the intense joy of serving; அனாஸக்தம் சித்தம் ப⁴வதி - my mind does not feel interested; பத³ - alas; விஷ்ணோ - O All-pervading Being!; குரு த³யாம் - be merciful (to me); ப⁴வத்-பாத-³அம்போ⁴ஜ-ஸ்மரண-ரஸிக: - (I) becoming immersed in worshipping Thy lotus feet; நாம-னிவஹான்-அஹம் கா³யம் கா³யம் - I will keep singing Thy countless names; குஹசன விவத்ஸ்யாமி விஜனே - in some secluded place, (I) will dwell;
Translation
O Lord Vishnu! tormented by this painful disease, what a pity, my mind is not inclined to revel in the joy of worshipping at Thy lotus feet. Be merciful to me, so that I may retire to a secluded beautiful place and enjoy the bliss of meditating on Thy lotus feet immersed in chanting Thy innumerable names.
ஶ்லோக:
க்ருபா தே ஜாதா சேத்கிமிவ ந ஹி லப்⁴யம் தனுப்⁴ருதாம்
மதீ³யக்லேஶௌக⁴ப்ரஶமனத³ஶா நாம கியதீ ।
ந கே கே லோகேஸ்மின்னநிஶமயி ஶோகாபி⁴ரஹிதா
ப⁴வத்³ப⁴க்தா முக்தா: ஸுக²க³திமஸக்தா வித³த⁴தே ॥3॥
Meaning
க்ருபா தே ஜாதா சேத்- - if Thy grace is achieved; கிம்-இவ ந ஹி லப்⁴யம் - what is there that cannot be achieved?; தனுப்⁴ருதாம் - by all embodied beings; மதீ³ய க்லேஶ-ஔக-⁴ப்ரஶமன-த³ஶா - the task of eradicating my afflictions; நாம கியதீ - how insignificant it is; ந கே கே லோகே-அஸ்மின்- - are there not several (devotees) in this world; அனிஶம்-அயி ஶோக-அபி⁴ரஹிதா: - always, O Lord, who are free of sorrows; ப⁴வத் ப⁴க்தா: - Thy devotees; முக்தா: - who are liberated; ஸுக-²க³திம்-அஸக்தா - have pure bliss and are unattached; வித³த⁴தே - and also moving about freely;
Translation
O Lord! if Thy grace is present, is there anything in this world which man cannot attain? The curing of my disease is just a very insignificant matter for Thee. There are many devotees of Thine, in this world, who having been liberated from sufferings and are moving about freely without any attachment.
ஶ்லோக:
முனிப்ரௌடா⁴ ரூடா⁴ ஜக³தி க²லு கூ³டா⁴த்மக³தயோ
ப⁴வத்பாதா³ம்போ⁴ஜஸ்மரணவிருஜோ நாரத³முகா²: ।
சரந்தீஶ ஸ்வைரம் ஸததபரினிர்பா⁴தபரசி -
த்ஸதா³னந்தா³த்³வைதப்ரஸரபரிமக்³னா: கிமபரம் ॥4॥
Meaning
முனி ப்ரௌடா⁴ - great sages; ரூடா⁴: ஜக³தி க²லு - (who)are well known in the world, indeed; கூ³டா⁴த்மக³தய: - move about freely unnoticed; ப⁴வத்-பாத-³அம்போ⁴ஜ-ஸ்மரணவிருஜ: - by constant contemplation of Thy lotus feet have become free from all sorrows; நாரத-³முகா²: - Naarada leading; சரந்தி-ஈஶ ஸ்வைரம் - move about, O Lord, at will; ஸதத-பரினிர்பா⁴த- - being ever immersed; பரசித்-ஆனந்த்³-அத்³வைத-ப்ரஸர-பரிமக்³னா: - in the unabating and indivisible flow of Bliss-Consciousness; கிம் அபரம் - what more than this (is desirable in life?);
Translation
O Lord! Great sages like Naarada move about freely at will without being noticed. They are free of all sorrows because of their constant contemplation on Thy lotus feet. They have attained the eternal knowledge and are always immersed in Thy non-dual Self,which is of the nature of supreme Bliss-Consciousness. What more can one desire to attain in life?
ஶ்லோக:
ப⁴வத்³ப⁴க்தி: ஸ்பீ²தா ப⁴வது மம ஸைவ ப்ரஶமயே-
த³ஶேஷக்லேஶௌக⁴ம் ந க²லு ஹ்ருதி³ ஸந்தே³ஹகணிகா ।
ந சேத்³வ்யாஸஸ்யோக்திஸ்தவ ச வசனம் நைக³மவசோ

Meaning
ப⁴வத் ப⁴க்தி: - devotion to Thee; ஸ்பீ²தா ப⁴வது - may it reach perfection; மம - my (devotion to Thee); ஸ ஏவ ப்ரஶமயேத் - that alone will eradicate; அஶேஷ-க்லேஶ-ஔக⁴ம் - endless sorrows and sufferings; ந க²லு ஹ்ருதி³ - not, indeed, in my heart; ஸந்தே³ஹ கணிகா - is there the slightest doubt; ந சேத் - if it were not so; வ்யாஸஸ்ய-உக்தி - the words of Sage Vyaasa; தவ ச வசனம் - Thy own words; நைக³ம-வச: - (and) the statements of the Vedas; ப⁴வேத்-மித்²யா - would become untrue; ரத்²யா-புருஷ-வசன-ப்ராயம் - like the street urchins' casual utterings; அகி²லம் - all of them;
Translation
O Lord! May my devotion to Thee grow intense, so that all my sufferings may automatically subside. I do not have the slightest doubt in my heart that devotion to Thee will bear this fruit. For if it were not so, the words of sage Vyaasa, Thy own words and the declarations of the Vedaas would prove to be untrue, like the casual mutterings of street urchins.
ஶ்லோக:
ப⁴வத்³ப⁴க்திஸ்தாவத் ப்ரமுக²மது⁴ரா த்வத் கு³ணரஸாத்
கிமப்யாரூடா⁴ சேத³கி²லபரிதாபப்ரஶமனீ ।
புனஶ்சாந்தே ஸ்வாந்தே விமலபரிபோ³தோ⁴த³யமில-
ந்மஹானந்தா³த்³வைதம் தி³ஶதி கிமத: ப்ரார்த்²யமபரம் ॥6॥
Meaning
ப⁴வத்-ப⁴க்தி: - தாவத் - devotion to Thee, indeed; ப்ரமுக-²மது⁴ரா - in the beginning itself is sweet; த்வத்-கு³ண-ரஸாத் - because of Thy excellent attributes; கிம்-அபி-ஆரூடா⁴ சேத்- - even with a little progress; அகி²ல-பரிதாப-ப்ரஶமனீ - it destroys all sorrows completely; புன:-ச-அந்தே - and besides, at the end also; ஸ்வ-அந்தே - in the mind; விமல-பரிபோ³த-⁴உத³ய-மிலத் - arising from the pure knowledge of identity; மஹா-ஆனந்த-³அத்³வைதம் - (with Brahman),the non-dual supreme bliss; தி³ஶதி - (It i.e. devotion) confers; கிம்-அத: ப்ரார்த்²யம்-அபரம் - other than this what is there to seek;
Translation
O Lord! devotion to Thee is sweet right from the beginning because of Thy glorious attributes. When such devotion becomes intense, it removes all sorrows of the devotee. At the final stage of devotion, the devotee experiences pure absolute Bliss coupled with knowledge of the Self. What more is there for one to seek?
ஶ்லோக:
விதூ⁴ய க்லேஶான்மே குரு சரணயுக்³மம் த்⁴ருதரஸம்
ப⁴வத்க்ஷேத்ரப்ராப்தௌ கரமபி ச தே பூஜனவிதௌ⁴ ।
ப⁴வன்மூர்த்யாலோகே நயனமத² தே பாத³துலஸீ-
பரிக்⁴ராணே க்⁴ராணம் ஶ்ரவணமபி தே சாருசரிதே ॥7॥
Meaning
விதூ⁴ய க்லேஶான்-மே - removing all my sufferings; குரு - (please) conduct in such manner (that); சரண-யுக்³மம் - (my) pair of feet; த்⁴ருத-ரஸம் - (may) be delighted; ப⁴வத்-க்ஷேத்ர-ப்ராப்தௌ - in reaching Thy temple; கரம்-அபி ச - and my hands; தே பூஜன-விதௌ⁴ - in worshipping Thee with rituals; ப⁴வத்-மூர்தி-ஆலோகே - thy(auspicious) form, in seeing; நயனம்- - (my) eyes; அத² தே பாத³துலஸீ-பரிக்⁴ராணே - then, at Thy feet the offered tulsi fragrance, in smelling; க்⁴ராணம் - (my) nose; ஶ்ரவணம்-அபி - and also my ears; தே சாரு-சரிதே - (in hearing) Thy charming deeds and excellences;
Translation
O Lord! Be graceful to remove all my afflictions so that my two feet will take delight in reaching Thy temple, my hands in performing worship to Thee,my eyes in seeing Thy enchanting form, my nose in enjoying the fragrance of the Tulsi leaves offered at Thy feet and my ears in hearing the stories of Thy glories and great deeds.

ப்ரபூ⁴தாதி⁴வ்யாதி⁴ப்ரஸப⁴சலிதே மாமகஹ்ருதி³
த்வதீ³யம் தத்³ரூபம் பரமஸுக²சித்³ரூபமுதி³யாத் ।
உத³ஞ்சத்³ரோமாஞ்சோ க³லிதப³ஹுஹர்ஷாஶ்ருனிவஹோ
யதா² விஸ்மர்யாஸம் து³ருபஶமபீடா³பரிப⁴வான் ॥8॥
Meaning
ப்ரபூ⁴த-ஆதி⁴-வ்யாதி⁴-ப்ரஸப-⁴சலிதே - troubled by the incessant mental and physical sufferings; மாமக-ஹ்ருதி³ - in my mind; த்வதீ³யம் தத்-ரூபம் பரம-ஸுக-²சித்-ரூபம்- - Thy that form which is of the nature of Supreme Bliss Consciousness; உதி³யாத் - may it manifest itself; உத³ஞ்ச்த-ரோமாஞ்ச: - (with) exciting horripilation; க³லித-ப³ஹு-ஹர்ஷ-அஶ்ரு-னிவஹ: - with tears of joy (of ecstasy) flowing profusely; யதா² விஸ்மர்யாஸம் - so that I may forget completely (without effort); து³ருபஶம-பீடா³-பரிப⁴வான் - all (my) endless woes caused by incurable ailments;
Translation
O Lord! In my mind, which is now very agitated due to mental and physical afflictions, may Thy beautiful form manifest, which is of the nature of Knowledge-Bliss absolute. This will excite me with supreme devotion causing horripilation all over the body and tears flowing in ecstasy and in such a thrill, my endless sorrows will melt into insignificance.

மருத்³கே³ஹாதீ⁴ஶ த்வயி க²லு பராஞ்சோபி ஸுகி²னோ
ப⁴வத்ஸ்னேஹீ ஸோஹம் ஸுப³ஹு பரிதப்யே ச கிமித³ம் ।
அகீர்திஸ்தே மா பூ⁴த்³வரத³ க³த³பா⁴ரம் ப்ரஶமயன்
ப⁴வத் ப⁴க்தோத்தம்ஸம் ஜ²டிதி குரு மாம் கம்ஸத³மன ॥9॥
Meaning
மருத்-கே³ஹ-அதீ⁴ஶ - O Lord of Guruvayur; த்வயி க²லு பராஞ்ச:-அபி ஸுகி²ன: - in Thee, even those who are indifferent are (living) happily; ப⁴வத்-ஸ்னேஹீ ஸ:-அஹம் - (whereas) a devotee of Thine like me; ஸுப³ஹு பரிதப்யே ச - (am) suffering too much; கிம-இத³ம் - what is this! (how come); அகீர்தி:-தே மா பூ⁴த் - let no disrepute come to Thee (because of this anomaly); வரத³ - O Bestower of boons!; க³த³பா⁴ரம் ப்ரஶமயன் - eradicate (my) afflictions; ப⁴வத்-ப⁴க்த-உத்தம்ஸம் - (make me) the best of Thy devotees; ஜ²டிதி குரு மாம் - quickly make me; கம்ஸத³மன - O Slayer of Kamsa!;
Translation
O Lord of Guruvaayur! I find that even those who are indifferent to Thee are leading a happy life. O Bestower of boons! Even though I am an ardent devotee of Thine, I am undergoing various sufferings. Why is this so? O Lord! Will this not bring disrepute to Thee? Hence, O slayer of Kamsa! Kindly eradicate my diseases and soon make me one of your foremost devotees.

கிமுக்தைர்பூ⁴யோபி⁴ஸ்தவ ஹி கருணா யாவது³தி³யா-
த³ஹம் தாவத்³தே³வ ப்ரஹிதவிவிதா⁴ர்தப்ரலபித: ।
புர: க்ல்ருப்தே பாதே³ வரத³ தவ நேஷ்யாமி தி³வஸா-
ந்யதா²ஶக்தி வ்யக்தம் நதினுதினிஷேவா விரசயன் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
கிம்-உக்தை: - பூ⁴யோபி⁴:- - what is the use of mere talking again and again; தவ ஹி கருணா - Thy compassion, indeed; யாவத்-உதி³யாத்- - till (it) arises (descends); அஹம் தாவத்- - till then I; தே³வ - O Lord!; ப்ரஹித-விவித-⁴ஆர்த-ப்ரலபித: - (I will be) giving up lamentations of all kinds; புர: க்ல்ருப்தே பாதே³ - At (Thy) feet which are in front of me; வரத³ தவ - O Bestower of Boons! (at) Thy (feet); நேஷ்யாமி தி³வஸான்- - I shall spend my days; யதா²ஶக்தி - to the best of my ability; வ்யக்தம் - obviously (certainly); நதி-னுதி-னிஷேவா - prostrating, singing Thy praises and worshipping (Thee); விரசயன் - performing (Thy worship);
Translation
O Lord! What is the use of my mere prattling? O Bestower of boons! I have resolved that till Thy Grace descends on me, giving up all my lamentations, I shall do prostration at Thy holy feet which are in front of me, sing Thy glories and do service to Thee as best as I can. Thus worship Thee.
