ஸ்தி²தஸ்ஸ கமலோத்³ப⁴வஸ்தவ ஹி நாபி⁴பங்கேருஹே
குத: ஸ்விதி³த³மம்பு³தா⁴வுதி³தமித்யனாலோகயன் ।
ததீ³க்ஷணகுதூஹலாத் ப்ரதிதி³ஶம் விவ்ருத்தானந-
ஶ்சதுர்வத³னதாமகா³த்³விகஸத³ஷ்டத்³ருஷ்ட்யம்பு³ஜாம் ॥1॥
Meaning
ஸ்தி²த: - - seated; ஸ கமலோத்³ப⁴வ: - - he, the lotus born (Brahmaa); தவ ஹி நாபி⁴பங்கேருஹே - in Thy navel lotus itself; குத: ஸ்வித்- - from where indeed; இத³ம்-அம்பு³தௌ⁴-உதி³தம்- - this (lotus) in the ocean has come up; இதி-அனாலோகயன் - this not comprehending; தத்-ஈக்ஷண-குதூஹலாத் - out of eagerness to find the source; ப்ரதிதி³ஶம் விவ்ருத்த-ஆனந: - - in all directions (he) turned his face; சது:-வத³னதாம்-அகா³த்- - (and thus) became endowed with four faces; விகஸத்-அஷ்ட-த்³ருஷ்டி-அம்பு³ஜாம் - with eight eyes (beautiful) like full blown lotuses;
Translation
Brahma sitting on the full blown lotus emerging from Thy lotus-like navel, and wondering about its origin looked all around by turning his face in all the directions. He was thus endowed with four faces and lotus-like eight beautiful eyes.
ஶ்லோக:
மஹார்ணவவிகூ⁴ர்ணிதம் கமலமேவ தத்கேவலம்
விலோக்ய தது³பாஶ்ரயம் தவ தனும் து நாலோகயன் ।
க ஏஷ கமலோத³ரே மஹதி நிஸ்ஸஹாயோ ஹ்யஹம்
குத: ஸ்விதி³த³ம்பு³ஜம் ஸமஜனீதி சிந்தாமகா³த் ॥2॥
Meaning
மஹார்ணவ-விகூ⁴ர்ணிதம் - tossing in the vast ocean; கமலம்-ஏவ தத்-கேவலம் - that lotus all alone; விலோக்ய தத்-உபாஶ்ரயம் - seeing its support (the stem); தவ தனும் து ந-ஆலோகயன் - and not seeing Thy body; க: ஏஷ - who is this (me); கமல-உத³ரே மஹதி - inside this huge lotus; நிஸ்ஸஹாய: ஹி-அஹம் - without any support (helpless) am I; குத: ஸ்வித்- - from where; இத³ம்-அம்பு³ஜம் ஸமஜனி- - did this lotus originate; இதி சிந்தாம்-அகா³த் - (he) was immersed in such thoughts;
Translation
Brahmaa found himself to be all alone in the huge lotus which was tossing about in the vast ocean of causal waters. He saw the stem supporting the lotus but was unable to see Thy body and wondered as to who he was helpless and all alone and also of the source of the lotus.
ஶ்லோக:
அமுஷ்ய ஹி ஸரோருஹ: கிமபி காரணம் ஸம்ப்⁴வே-
தி³தி ஸ்ம க்ருதனிஶ்சயஸ்ஸ க²லு நாலரந்த்⁴ராத்⁴வனா ।
ஸ்வயோக³ப³லவித்³யயா ஸமவரூட⁴வான் ப்ரௌட⁴தீ⁴ -
ஸ்த்வதீ³யமதிமோஹனம் ந து கலேவரம் த்³ருஷ்டவான் ॥3॥
Meaning
அமுஷ்ய ஹி ஸரோருஹ: - certainly for this lotus; கிம்-அபி காரணம் ஸம்ப⁴வேத்- - there must be some cause (place) of origin; இதி ஸ்ம க்ருதனிஶ்சய: - - thus having concluded; ஸ க²லு - he (Brahmaa) indeed; நால-ரந்த்⁴ர-அத்⁴வனா - through the hollow in the lotus stem; ஸ்வ-யோக-³ப³ல-வித்⁴யயா - with the power of his yogic knowledge; ஸ்மவரூட⁴வான் - descended; ப்ரௌட⁴தீ⁴: - - he of mighty intellect; த்வதீ³யம்-அதி-மோஹனம் - Thy this most enchanting; ந து கலேவரம் த்³ருஷ்டவான் - form but could not perceive;
Translation
Brahmaa who was of mighty intellect, decided that there must definitely be some source of this lotus. Using his yogic power he descended through the hollow of the lotus stem to look for the cause. He, however could not not see Thy most enchanting form.
ஶ்லோக:
தத: ஸகலனாலிகாவிவரமார்க³கோ³ மார்க³யன்
ப்ரயஸ்ய ஶதவத்ஸரம் கிமபி நைவ ஸந்த்³ருஷ்டவான் ।
நிவ்ருத்ய கமலோத³ரே ஸுக²னிஷண்ண ஏகாக்³ரதீ⁴:
ஸமாதி⁴ப³லமாத³தே⁴ ப⁴வத³னுக்³ரஹைகாக்³ரஹீ ॥4॥
Meaning
தத: - then; ஸகல-னாலிகா-விவர-மார்க³க:³ - going through all the orifices of the stem; மார்க³யன் - searching; ப்ரயஸ்ய ஶதவத்ஸரம் - striving for hundred divine years; கிம்-அபி ந-ஏவ ஸந்த்³ருஷ்டவான் - could not see anything at all; நிவ்ருத்ய கமல-உத³ரே - (he then) returned inside the lotus; ஸுக²னிஷண்ண ஏகாக்³ரதீ⁴: - sitting comfortably with one pointed intellect; ஸமாதி⁴-ப³லம்-ஆத³தே⁴ - resorted to deep samaadhi; ப⁴வத்-அனுக்³ரஹ-ஏக-ஆக்³ரஹீ - solely desirous of Thy grace;
Translation
Brahmaa spent a hundred divine years strenuously searching through all the orifices of the lotus stem but he could not see anything. He returned to the lotus and sat calmly with one pointed concentration and resorted to deep samaadhi solely desirous of Thy grace.

ஶதேன பரிவத்ஸரைர்த்³ருட⁴ஸமாதி⁴ப³ந்தோ⁴ல்லஸத்-
ப்ரபோ³த⁴விஶதீ³க்ருத: ஸ க²லு பத்³மினீஸம்ப⁴வ: ।
அத்³ருஷ்டசரமத்³பு⁴தம் தவ ஹி ரூபமந்தர்த்³ருஶா
வ்யசஷ்ட பரிதுஷ்டதீ⁴ர்பு⁴ஜக³போ⁴க³பா⁴கா³ஶ்ரயம் ॥5॥
Meaning
ஶதேன பரிவத்ஸரை: - - for a hundred (divine) years; த்³ருட-⁴ஸமாதி⁴-ப³ந்த-⁴உல்லஸத்- - of practising of undisturbed samaadhi, resulted; ப்ரபோ³த-⁴விஶதீ³க்ருத: - (and ) the knowledge dawned (in him); ஸ க²லு பத்³மினீஸம்ப⁴வ: - he, indeed, the lotus born (Brahmaa); அத்³ருஷ்டசரம்-அத்³பு⁴தம் - not seen by humans, the wonderful; தவ ஹி ரூபம்- - Thy divine form; அந்தர்த்³ருஶா வ்யசஷ்ட - in his inner vision saw; பரிதுஷ்டதீ⁴:- - (with) heart full of contentment; பு⁴ஜக-³போ⁴க³பா⁴க-³ஆஶ்ரயம் - on a part of the body of the great serpent, resting;
Translation
The lotus born Brahmaa was absorbed in undisturbed samaadhi for a hundred divine years.The knowledge of Reality then dawned on him. He then had the vision of Thy wonderful form which humans cannot easily see, resting on a part of Aadishesha's (the great serpent's), body. So he was full of happiness and contentment.

கிரீடமுகுடோல்லஸத்கடகஹாரகேயூரயுங்-
மணிஸ்பு²ரிதமேக²லம் ஸுபரிவீதபீதாம்ப³ரம் ।
கலாயகுஸுமப்ரப⁴ம் க³லதலோல்லஸத்கௌஸ்துப⁴ம்
வபுஸ்தத³யி பா⁴வயே கமலஜன்மே த³ர்ஶிதம் ॥6॥
Meaning
கிரீட-முகுட-உல்லஸத்- - a crown,with a diadem shining; கடக-ஹார-கேயூர-யுக்- - with bracelets, necklaces and shoulder ornaments; மணி-ஸ்பு²ரித-மேக²லம் - with gems studded waist band; ஸுபரிவீத-பீதாம்ப³ரம் - with beautifully worn yellow silk cloth; கலாய-குஸும-ப்ரப⁴ம் - like the Kalaaya flower (blue lily) brilliant (blue complexion); க³ல-தல-உல்லஸத்-கௌஸ்துப⁴ம் - (with) around the neck the shining Kaustubha jewel; வபு: -தத்-அயி பா⁴வயே - on that form of Thine, O Lord! I meditate; கமலஜன்மனே த³ர்ஶிதம் - to the lotus born (Brahmaa) which was revealed;
Translation
O Lord! That divine form of Thine with the golden crown, with a brilliant blue complexion like the beautiful Kalaaya flower (blue lily), with the shining Kaustubh jewel adorning Thy neck, with shoulder ornaments and bracelets , and with studded golden waistband and beautifully wearing a yellow silk garment (Peetaambara). This Thy form was revealed to the lotus born Brahmaa , on which I meditate.

ஶ்ருதிப்ரகரத³ர்ஶிதப்ரசுரவைப⁴வ ஶ்ரீபதே
ஹரே ஜய ஜய ப்ரபோ⁴ பத³முபைஷி தி³ஷ்ட்யா த்³ருஶோ: ।
குருஷ்வ தி⁴யமாஶு மே பு⁴வனநிர்மிதௌ கர்மடா²-
மிதி த்³ருஹிணவர்ணிதஸ்வகு³ணப³ம்ஹிமா பாஹி மாம் ॥7॥
Meaning
ஶ்ருதி-ப்ரகர- - in several Vedic texts; த³ர்ஶித-ப்ரசுர-வைபவ⁴ - declared, the abundant glory; ஶ்ரீபதே - O Consort of Laxmi!; ஹரே - O Destroyer of all sorrows; ஜய ஜய ப்ரபோ⁴ - Hail O Lord!; பத³ம்-உபைஷி தி³ஷ்ட்யா த்³ருஶோ: - Thou have appeared, by good fortune, before my eyes; குருஷ்வ - make; தி⁴யம்-ஆஶு மே - my intellect, soon; பு⁴வன-னிர்மிதௌ கர்மடா²ம்- - in the creation of the world, capable; இதி த்³ருஹிண-வர்ணித- - thus, described by Brahmaa; ஸ்வகு³ண-ப³ம்ஹிமா - (Thou possessing) countless excellences; பாஹி மாம் - please protect me;
Translation
"O Consort of Laxmi! Thy abundant glories have been sung of in the Vedaas. Hail O all-powerful Lord and remover of sorrows! It is my good fortune that Thou have revealed Thy sacred form to me. O Lord! Make my intelligence capable of creating the world." Thou, whose innumerable excellences were thus praised by Brahma, please be merciful to protect me.
ஶ்லோக:
லப⁴ஸ்வ பு⁴வனத்ரயீரசனத³க்ஷதாமக்ஷதாம்
க்³ருஹாண மத³னுக்³ரஹம் குரு தபஶ்ச பூ⁴யோ விதே⁴ ।
ப⁴வத்வகி²லஸாத⁴னீ மயி ச ப⁴க்திரத்யுத்கடே-
த்யுதீ³ர்ய கி³ரமாத³தா⁴ முதி³தசேதஸம் வேத⁴ஸம் ॥8॥
Meaning
லப⁴ஸ்வ - may you attain; பு⁴வனத்ரயீ-ரசன-த³க்ஷதாம்-அக்ஷதாம் - in creating the three worlds, expertise unending; க்³ருஹாண மத்-அனுக்³ரஹம் - receive My blessings; குரு தப: -ச பூ⁴ய: -விதே⁴ - and do Tapa (penance) again O Brahmaa; ப⁴வது-அகி²ல-ஸாத⁴னீ - may that accomplish everything; மயி ச ப⁴க்தி: -அதி-உத்கடா- - and intense devotion to me; இதி-உதீ³ர்ய கி³ரம்- - saying these words; ஆத³தா⁴ முதி³த-சேதஸம் வித⁴ஸம் - rendered a happy mind to Brahmaa;
Translation
O Brahmaa, may you be endowed with unending capability and expertise in the creation of the three worlds. May your devotion excel. Do penance again by which you will accomplish everything.' So saying Thou made Brahmaa's mind immensely happy.

ஶதம் க்ருததபாஸ்தத: ஸ க²லு தி³வ்யஸம்வத்ஸரா-
நவாப்ய ச தபோப³லம் மதிப³லம் ச பூர்வாதி⁴கம் ।
உதீ³க்ஷ்ய கில கம்பிதம் பயஸி பங்கஜம் வாயுனா
ப⁴வத்³ப³லவிஜ்ரும்பி⁴த: பவனபாத²ஸீ பீதவான் ॥9॥
Meaning
ஶதம் க்ருத-தபா:-தத: - for a hundred years having done penance, then; ஸ க²லு தி³வ்ய-ஸம்வத்ஸரான்- - he (Brahmaa) indeed for hundred divine years; அவாப்ய ச தபோப³லம் மதிப³லம் - attained spiritual powers and mental powers; ச பூர்வ-அதி⁴கம் - more than ever before; உதீ³க்ஷ்ய கில - and seeing indeed; கம்பிதம் பயஸி பங்கஜம் - the lotus swaying in the waters; வாயுனா - by the wind; ப⁴வத்-ப³ல விஜ்ரும்பி⁴த: - by Thy prowess strengthened; பவனபாத²ஸீ பீதவான் - the wind and the waters (he) drank up;
Translation
Brahmaa then did penance for another hundred divine years, by which he attained spiritual and mental powers even more than before. He saw the lotus on which he was seated, swaying in the causal waters. He, with the powers given by Thee, drank the wind and the waters.

தவைவ க்ருபயா புனஸ்ஸரஸிஜேன தேனைவ ஸ:
ப்ரகல்ப்ய பு⁴வனத்ரயீம் ப்ரவவ்ருதே ப்ரஜானிர்மிதௌ ।
ததா²வித⁴க்ருபாப⁴ரோ கு³ருமருத்புராதீ⁴ஶ்வர
த்வமாஶு பரிபாஹி மாம் கு³ருத³யோக்ஷிதைரீக்ஷிதை: ॥1௦॥
Meaning
தவ-ஏவ க்ருபயா - by Thy grace alone; புன: - - then; ஸரஸிஜேன தேன-ஏவ - out of that lotus itself; ஸ: - Brahmaa; ப்ரகல்ப்ய பு⁴வனத்ரயீம் - created the three worlds; ப்ரவவ்ருதே ப்ரஜானிர்மிதௌ - engaged himself in creating various species of beings; ததா²-வித-⁴க்ருபாப⁴ர: - (O Thou!) who abound in such compassion; கு³ருமருத்புராதீ⁴ஶ்வர - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; த்வம்-ஆஶு பரிபாஹி மாம் - Thou soon protect me; கு³ரு-த³யா-உக்ஷித: ஈக்ஷதை: - great mercy overflowing Thy glances;
Translation
Brahmaa, then, by Thy grace created the three worlds out of that lotus itself and got engaged in creating the various species of beings. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Full of such compassion please cast Thy glance overflowing with great mercy on me and protect me soon.
