ஶ்லோக:
ததஶ்ச வ்ருந்தா³வனதோதிதூ³ரதோ
வனம் க³தஸ்த்வம் க²லு கோ³பகோ³குலை: ।
ஹ்ருத³ந்தரே ப⁴க்ததரத்³விஜாங்க³னா-
கத³ம்ப³கானுக்³ரஹணாக்³ரஹம் வஹன் ॥1॥
Meaning
தத:-ச - and then; வ்ருந்தா³வனத:- - from Vrindaavana; அதிதூ³ரத: - far away; வனம் க³த:-த்வம் - (when) to the forest went Thou; க²லு கோ³ப-கோ³குலை: - indeed (with) the cowherds and cows; ஹ்ருத³ந்தரே - in (Thy) heart; ப⁴க்ததர- - (to) the very devoted; த்³விஜாங்க³னா:- - Braahmin women; கத³ம்ப³க- - group; அனுக்³ரஹண- - blessing; ஆக்³ரஹம் வஹன் - desire carrying;
Translation
Once Thou went into the forest far away from Vrindaavana, with the cows and the cowherds. In Thy heart Thou carried the desire of blessing the large group of the very devout Braahmin women.
ஶ்லோக:
ததோ நிரீக்ஷ்யாஶரணே வனாந்தரே
கிஶோரலோகம் க்ஷுதி⁴தம் த்ருஷாகுலம் ।
அதூ³ரதோ யஜ்ஞபரான் த்³விஜான் ப்ரதி
வ்யஸர்ஜயோ தீ³தி³வியாசனாய தான் ॥2॥
Meaning
தத: நிரீக்ஷ்ய- - then seeing; அஶரணே வனாந்தரே - without shelter, inside the forest; கிஶோர-லோகம் - the boys; க்ஷுதி⁴தம் த்ருஷா-ஆகுலம் - hungry (and) with thirst tormented; அதூ³ரத: - not very far away; யஜ்ஞபரான் - performing yagya; த்³விஜான் ப்ரதி - Braahmins towards; வ்யஸர்ஜய: - sent; தீ³தி³வி-யாசனாய - boiled rice to beg; தான் - of them;
Translation
Then Thou saw that the boys were hungry and were tormented by thirst and the forest was without any dwellings where some food could be got. Not very far away some Braahmins were performing Yagya. Thou sent the boys to them to beg for some boiled rice (food).
ஶ்லோக:
க³தேஷ்வதோ² தேஷ்வபி⁴தா⁴ய தேபி⁴தா⁴ம்
குமாரகேஷ்வோத³னயாசிஷு ப்ரபோ⁴ ।
ஶ்ருதிஸ்தி²ரா அப்யபி⁴னின்யுரஶ்ருதிம்
ந கிஞ்சிதூ³சுஶ்ச மஹீஸுரோத்தமா: ॥3॥
Meaning
க³தேஷு-அத:² தேஷு- - they had gone ,then they; அபி⁴தா⁴ய - mentioning; தே-அபி⁴தா⁴ம் - Thy name; குமாரகேஷு- - the boys; ஓத³ன-யாசிஷு - for food had asked; ப்ரபோ⁴ - O Lord!; ஶ்ருதி-ஸ்தி²ரா அபி- - (they) in Srutis firmly established even (though); அபி⁴னின்யு:-அஶ்ருதிம் - took to not hearing; ந கிஞ்சித்- - anything; ஊசு:-ச - said and; மஹீஸுர-உத்தமா: - (they known to be) the Braahmins great;
Translation
O Lord! The boys then went to the Braahmins and they mentioned Thy name and asked for food. But the great Braahmins who were known to be well versed in Vedas (Shrutis) acted as if they had not heard anything and did not respond in any manner.
ஶ்லோக:
அனாத³ராத் கி²ன்னதி⁴யோ ஹி பா³லகா: ।
ஸமாயயுர்யுக்தமித³ம் ஹி யஜ்வஸு ।
சிராத³ப⁴க்தா: க²லு தே மஹீஸுரா:
கத²ம் ஹி ப⁴க்தம் த்வயி தை: ஸமர்ப்யதே ॥4॥
Meaning
அனாத³ராத் - ignored; கி²ன்னதி⁴ய: - sad at heart; ஹி பா³லகா: - indeed the boys; ஸமாயயு:- - came back; யுக்தம்-இத³ம் ஹி - befitting this (behaviour) indeed; யஜ்வஸு - for ritualists; சிராத்-அப⁴க்தா: - for long being undevoted; க²லு தே மஹீஸுரா: - indeed they the Braahmins; கத²ம் ஹி - how indeed; ப⁴க்தம் த்வயி - food to Thee; தை: ஸமர்ப்யதே - by them be offered;
Translation
The boys came back, saddened at heart at being ignored thus. But such an indifferent behaviour was quite expected of such ritualistic Braahmins. Indeed for long they were not devoted to Thee so how was it possible that they would offer food to Thee?
ஶ்லோக:
நிவேத³யத்⁴வம் க்³ருஹிணீஜனாய மாம்
தி³ஶேயுரன்னம் கருணாகுலா இமா: ।
இதி ஸ்மிதார்த்³ரம் ப⁴வதேரிதா க³தா-
ஸ்தே தா³ரகா தா³ரஜனம் யயாசிரே ॥5॥
Meaning
நிவேத³யத்⁴வம் - announce; க்³ருஹிணீஜனாய - to the housewives; மாம் - me; தி³ஶேயு:-அன்னம் - will give food; கருணாகுலா:-இமா: - compassion driven these (women); இதி ஸ்மித-ஆர்த்³ரம் - thus smiling softly; ப⁴வதா-ஈரிதா: - by Thee being said; க³தா:-தே தா³ரகா: - went they (those) boys; தா³ரஜனம் யயாசிரே - the wives requested;
Translation
Thou told the boys to go and announce Thy arrival to the housewives. Thou smilingly told them that those women were full of compassion and that they would give food. Thus being told the boys went to the housewives and requested them.
ஶ்லோக:
க்³ருஹீதனாம்னி த்வயி ஸம்ப்⁴ரமாகுலா-
ஶ்சதுர்வித⁴ம் போ⁴ஜ்யரஸம் ப்ரக்³ருஹ்ய தா: ।
சிரந்த்⁴ருதத்வத்ப்ரவிலோகனாக்³ரஹா:
ஸ்வகைர்னிருத்³தா⁴ அபி தூர்ணமாயயு: ॥6॥
Meaning
க்³ருஹீத-னாம்னி த்வயி - (when) Thy name was taken; ஸம்ப்⁴ரம-ஆகுலா:- - in great excitement (and) who were eager (to see Thee); சதுர்வித⁴ம் போ⁴ஜ்ய-ரஸம் - four types of food; ப்ரக்³ருஹ்ய-தா: - taking they; சிரம்-த்⁴ருத-த்வத்- - for long holding Thy; ப்ரவிலோகன-ஆக்³ரஹா: - sight's desire; ஸ்வகை:-னிருத்³தா⁴: அபி - by kith and kin being prevented even; தூர்ணம்-ஆயயு: - quickly came;
Translation
As Thy name was mentioned by the boys, the women who were eager to see Thee were very excited. They quickly came to Thee carrying with them four types food. For long they were holding a desire to see Thee, so in spite of being forbidden by their kith and kin, they came quickly.
ஶ்லோக:
விலோலபிஞ்ச²ம் சிகுரே கபோலயோ:
ஸமுல்லஸத்குண்ட³லமார்த்³ரமீக்ஷிதே ।
நிதா⁴ய பா³ஹும் ஸுஹ்ருத³ம்ஸஸீமனி
ஸ்தி²தம் ப⁴வந்தம் ஸமலோகயந்த தா: ॥7॥
Meaning
விலோல-பிஞ்ச²ம் - quivering peacock feather; சிகுரே கபோலயோ: - in the hair, on the two cheeks; ஸமுல்லஸத்- - glowing; குண்ட³லம்- - earrings; ஆர்த்³ரம்-ஈக்ஷிதே - kindly glance; நிதா⁴ய பா³ஹும் - placing hand; ஸுஹ்ருத்-அம்ஸ-ஸீமனி - on friend's shoulder; ஸ்தி²தம் ப⁴வந்தம் - standing (thus) Thee; ஸமலோகயந்த தா: - joyfully saw they (the women);
Translation
The peacock feather was quivering in the locks of Thy hair. Thy two cheeks were glowing with the reflection of the earrings. Thy hand was placed on the shoulder of Thy friend. The women joyfully saw Thee standing in this manner in front of them.
ஶ்லோக:
ததா³ ச காசித்த்வது³பாக³மோத்³யதா
க்³ருஹீதஹஸ்தா த³யிதேன யஜ்வனா ।
ததை³வ ஸஞ்சிந்த்ய ப⁴வந்தமஞ்ஜஸா
விவேஶ கைவல்யமஹோ க்ருதின்யஸௌ ॥8॥
Meaning
ததா³ ச காசித்- - and then one of them; த்வத்-உபாக³ம- - Thee coming near to; உத்³யதா க்³ருஹீத-ஹஸ்தா - eager, caught by the hand; த³யிதேன யஜ்வனா - by (her) husband (who was) a ritualistic Braahmin; ததா³-ஏவ - then only; ஸஞ்சிந்த்ய - meditated deeply; ப⁴வந்தம்-அஞ்ஜஸா - on Thee, easily; விவேஶ கைவல்யம்- - entered oneness (with Thee); அஹோ - what a wonder; க்ருதினீ-அஸௌ - very fortunate (was) this one;
Translation
And then, one of them who was eager to come near Thee, was held back by hand by her ritualistic husband. Thus being deterred, she meditated deeply on Thee. O What a wonder! This fortunate one easily entered oneness with Thee, there and then.
ஶ்லோக:
ஆதா³ய போ⁴ஜ்யான்யனுக்³ருஹ்ய தா: புன-
ஸ்த்வத³ங்க³ஸங்க³ஸ்ப்ருஹயோஜ்ஜ²தீர்க்³ருஹம் ।
விலோக்ய யஜ்ஞாய விஸர்ஜயன்னிமா-
ஶ்சகர்த² ப⁴ர்த்ருனபி தாஸ்வக³ர்ஹணான் ॥9॥
Meaning
ஆதா³ய போ⁴ஜ்யானி- - taking food offerings; அனுக்³ருஹ்ய தா: - blessing them (the women); புன: - again; த்வத்-அங்க-³ - Thy physical; ஸங்க-³ஸ்ப்ருஹயா- - contact desiring; உஜ்ஜ²தீ: க்³ருஹம் - (and so) abandoning the house; விலோக்ய யஜ்ஞாய - seeing, for the rituals; விஸர்ஜயன்- - sending back; இமா:-சகர்த² - these women, Thou did; ப⁴ர்த்ருன-அபி - the husbands also; தாஸு-அக³ர்ஹணான் - in them (for their wives) had no hard feelings;
Translation
Accepting their offerings for food, Thou blessed them. They were always desirous of having physical contact with Thee and so abandoned their houses. Seeing this, Thou sent them back to conduct the Yagya rituals properly. Thou also rendered their husbands free from any ill feelings towards them.
ஶ்லோக:
நிரூப்ய தோ³ஷம் நிஜமங்க³னாஜனே
விலோக்ய ப⁴க்திம் ச புனர்விசாரிபி⁴:
ப்ரபு³த்³த⁴தத்த்வைஸ்த்வமபி⁴ஷ்டுதோ த்³விஜை-
ர்மருத்புராதீ⁴ஶ நிருந்தி⁴ மே க³தா³ன் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
நிரூப்ய - realising; தோ³ஷம் நிஜம்- - mistake (their) own; அங்க³னாஜனே - (and) in the women folk; விலோக்ய ப⁴க்திம் - seeing devotion; ச புன:- - and again; விசாரிபி⁴: - by the thinking ones; ப்ரபு³த்³த-⁴தத்த்வை:- - who had understood the reality; த்வம்-அபி⁴ஷ்டுத: - Thou were praised; த்³விஜை:- - by the Braahmins; மருத்புராதீ⁴ஶ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; நிருந்தி⁴ மே க³தா³ன் - eradicate my sufferings;
Translation
The Braahmins realized their own mistake. They also recognized the great devotion of their wives. Those of them who reflected thus and then understood the Reality sang Thy praises. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Eradicate my sufferings.
