ஶ்லோக:
மத³னாதுரசேதஸோன்வஹம் ப⁴வத³ங்க்⁴ரித்³வயதா³ஸ்யகாம்யயா ।
யமுனாதடஸீம்னி ஸைகதீம் தரலாக்ஷ்யோ கி³ரிஜாம் ஸமார்சிசன் ॥1॥
Meaning
மத³ன-ஆதுர-சேதஸ:- - with minds overcome by the god of love; அன்வஹம் - everyday; ப⁴வத்-அங்க்⁴ரி-த்³வய- - Thy two feet; தா³ஸ்ய-காம்யயா - to serve desiring; யமுனா-தட-ஸீம்னி - on the Yamunaa banks nearby; ஸைகதீம் - made of sand (an image); தரல-ஆக்ஷ்ய: - the beautiful eyed ones (girls); கி³ரிஜாம் - the goddess Kaatyaayini; ஸமார்சிசன் - worshipped;
Translation
The beautiful eyed girls of Vraja, overcome by Cupid and love for Thee were desirous of serving Thy two lotus feet. To achieve this, everyday, on the banks of Yamunaa, they made an image of sand of goddess Girijaa and worshipped it.
ஶ்லோக:
தவ நாமகதா²ரதா: ஸமம் ஸுத்³ருஶ: ப்ராதருபாக³தா நதீ³ம் ।
உபஹாரஶதைரபூஜயன் த³யிதோ நந்த³ஸுதோ ப⁴வேதி³தி ॥2॥
Meaning
தவ - Thy; நாம-கதா²-ரதா: - name and deeds always immersed in; ஸமம் ஸுத்³ருஶ: - (they) all beautiful eyed (girls); ப்ராத:-உபாக³தா - in the morning reaching; நதீ³ம் - the river; உபஹார்-ஶதை:- - with hundreds of offerings; அபூஜயன் - worshipping (prayed); த³யித: நந்த³ஸுத: - (that) husband, the son of Nanda; ப⁴வேத்-இதி - may become, thus;
Translation
All the beautiful girls were always immersed in chanting Thy name and narrating Thy deeds. In the morning they would go to the river and worship goddess Girijaa with hundreds of offerings and pray to her that Nanda's son, Krishna, may become their husband.
ஶ்லோக:
இதி மாஸமுபாஹிதவ்ரதாஸ்தரலாக்ஷீரபி⁴வீக்ஷ்ய தா ப⁴வான் ।
கருணாம்ருது³லோ நதீ³தடம் ஸமயாஸீத்தத³னுக்³ரஹேச்ச²யா ॥3॥
Meaning
இதி மாஸம்- - thus for one month; உபாஹித-வ்ரதா:- - having performed the vows; தரலாக்ஷீ:- - the beautiful eyed (girls); அபி⁴வீக்ஷ்ய தா: - seeing them; ப⁴வான் - Thou; கருணா-ம்ருது³ல: - by compassion moved; நதீ³தடம் ஸமயாஸீத்- - to the river bank went; தத்-அனுக்³ரஹ- - to bless them; இச்ச²யா - desiring;
Translation
Thou were moved by compassion when Thou saw that the beautiful eyed girls had performed the vows for a month. With a desire to bless them Thou went to the river bank.
ஶ்லோக:
நியமாவஸிதௌ நிஜாம்ப³ரம் தடஸீமன்யவமுச்ய தாஸ்ததா³ ।
யமுனாஜலகே²லனாகுலா: புரதஸ்த்வாமவலோக்ய லஜ்ஜிதா: ॥4॥
Meaning
நியம-அவஸிதௌ - vows/observances being completed; நிஜ-அம்ப³ரம் - their clothes; தட-ஸீமனி- - on the river bank; அவமுச்ய தா:- - leaving they; ததா³ யமுனா-ஜல- - then in the Yamunaa waters; கே²லன-ஆகுலா: - to sport eager; புரத:-த்வாம்- - in front Thee; அவலோக்ய - seeing; லஜ்ஜிதா: - felt ashamed;
Translation
The observances of the vows being completed, they eagerly went to sport in the Yamunaa waters, leaving their robes behind, on the bank. Seeing Thee in front, they felt very ashamed.
ஶ்லோக:
த்ரபயா நமிதானநாஸ்வதோ² வனிதாஸ்வம்ப³ரஜாலமந்திகே ।
நிஹிதம் பரிக்³ருஹ்ய பூ⁴ருஹோ விடபம் த்வம் தரஸாதி⁴ரூட⁴வான் ॥5॥
Meaning
த்ரபயா - out of shame; நமித-ஆனநாஸு- - with hung heads; அத:² வனிதாஸு- - then (when) the girls; அம்ப³ர-ஜாலம்- - the heap of clothes; அந்திகே நிஹிதம் - near by kept; பரிக்³ருஹ்ய - taking away; பூ⁴ருஹ: விடபம் - a tree's branch; த்வம் தரஸா- - Thou quickly; அதி⁴ரூட⁴வான் - climbed up;
Translation
The girls stood with their heads hung in shame. Thou took away the heap of their clothes lying near by and quickly climbed up the branch of a tree.
ஶ்லோக:
இஹ தாவது³பேத்ய நீயதாம் வஸனம் வ: ஸுத்³ருஶோ யதா²யத²ம் ।
இதி நர்மம்ருது³ஸ்மிதே த்வயி ப்³ருவதி வ்யாமுமுஹே வதூ⁴ஜனை: ॥6॥
Meaning
இஹ தாவத்- - here then; உபேத்ய நீயதாம் - coming take; வஸனம் வ: - clothes you people; ஸுத்³ருஶ: - O beautiful eyed ones; யதா²யத²ம் இதி - each her own, thus; நர்ம-ம்ருது³-ஸ்மிதே - (with) a soft sweet smile; த்வயி ப்³ருவதி - (when) Thou said; வ்யமுமுஹே - they were confused; வதூ⁴ஜனை: - the girls;
Translation
Come here, O beautiful eyed ones! Take each one of you your clothes,' Thou said with a soft sweet smile. The girls were confused when they were asked to do so.
ஶ்லோக:
அயி ஜீவ சிரம் கிஶோர நஸ்தவ தா³ஸீரவஶீகரோஷி கிம் ।
ப்ரதி³ஶாம்ப³ரமம்பு³ஜேக்ஷணேத்யுதி³தஸ்த்வம் ஸ்மிதமேவ த³த்தவான் ॥7॥
Meaning
அயி ஜீவ சிரம் - O may you live long; கிஶோர - dear boy; ந:-தவ தா³ஸீ:- - we (are) Thy servants; அவஶீ-கரோஷி கிம் - teasing us why; ப்ரதி³ஶ-அம்ப³ரம்- - give the clothes; அம்பு³ஜேக்ஷண- - O Lotus eyed one!; இதி-உதி³த:- - thus being told; த்வம் ஸ்மிதம்-ஏவ - Thou smile only; த³த்தவான் - gave;
Translation
O dear boy! May you live long. We are your hand maids. Why do you tease us thus? O Lotus eyed one! Give us our clothes.' Thus being told, Thou merely gave a smile.
ஶ்லோக:
அதி⁴ருஹ்ய தடம் க்ருதாஞ்ஜலீ: பரிஶுத்³தா⁴: ஸ்வக³தீர்னிரீக்ஷ்ய தா: ।
வஸனான்யகி²லான்யனுக்³ரஹம் புனரேவம் கி³ரமப்யதா³ முதா³ ॥8॥
Meaning
அதி⁴ருஹ்ய தடம் - climbing up the bank; க்ருதாஞ்ஜலீ: - with joined palms; பரிஶுத்³தா⁴: - purified (at heart); ஸ்வக³தீ:- - (in Thee) as the sole resort; நிரீக்ஷ்ய தா: - seeing, them (as such); வஸனானி- - clothes; அகி²லானி- - all; அனுக்³ரஹம் - blessings; புன:-ஏவம் - again also; கி³ரம்-அபி- - words (promise) also; அதா³ முதா³ - gave (to them) with joy;
Translation
Thou saw that the girls had come up the bank with joined palms, that they were purified at heart and that they had surrendered to Thee as their sole resort.Thou with joy gave them back all their clothes and also words of promise as blessings.
ஶ்லோக:
விதி³தம் நனு வோ மனீஷிதம் வதி³தாரஸ்த்விஹ யோக்³யமுத்தரம் ।
யமுனாபுலினே ஸசந்த்³ரிகா: க்ஷணதா³ இத்யப³லாஸ்த்வமூசிவான் ॥9॥
Meaning
விதி³தம் நனு - known indeed; வ: மனீஷிதம் - (is) your desire; வதி³தார:- - (I) will respond; து-இஹ - surely here; யோக்³யம்-உத்தரம் - proper (befitting) answer; யமுனா-புலினே - on the Yamunaa banks; ஸசந்த்³ரிகா: - (in) moon lit; க்ஷணதா³: இதி- - nights, thus; அப³லா:- - to the girls; த்வம்-ஊசிவான் - Thou said;
Translation
Known indeed is your desire to me. I will surely give a proper response, in the moon lit nights on the sand banks of Yamunaa.' Thus Thou said to the girls.
ஶ்லோக:
உபகர்ண்ய ப⁴வன்முக²ச்யுதம் மது⁴னிஷ்யந்தி³ வசோ ம்ருகீ³த்³ருஶ: ।
ப்ரணயாத³யி வீக்ஷ்ய வீக்ஷ்ய தே வத³னாப்³ஜம் ஶனகைர்க்³ருஹம் க³தா: ॥1௦॥
Meaning
உபகர்ண்ய - hearing; ப⁴வத்-முக-²ச்யுதம் - from Thy mouth flowing; மது⁴-னிஷ்யந்தி³ வச: - honey dripping words; ம்ருகீ³த்³ருஶ: - the doe-eyed (girls); ப்ரணயாத்-அயி - with love, O Lord!; வீக்ஷ்ய வீக்ஷ்ய - seeing again and again; தே வத³ன்-ஆப்³ஜம் - Thy lotus face; ஶனகை:-க்³ருஹம் க³தா: - slowly home went;
Translation
O Lord! The doe eyed girls heard Thy honey dripping words flowing from Thy mouth. Looking with love at Thy lotus face again and again they slowly went home.
ஶ்லோக:
இதி நன்வனுக்³ருஹ்ய வல்லவீர்விபினாந்தேஷு புரேவ ஸஞ்சரன் ।
கருணாஶிஶிரோ ஹரே ஹர த்வரயா மே ஸகலாமயாவலிம் ॥11॥
Meaning
இதி நனு- - thus indeed; அனுக்³ருஹ்ய - blessing; வல்லவீ:- - the Gopikaas; விபின-அந்தேஷு - in the forests; புரா-இவ ஸஞ்சரன் - before like moving about; கருணாஶிஶிர: - O Compassionate and cool; ஹரே - O Hari!; ஹர த்வரயா - put an end to, soon; மே ஸகல- - my all; ஆமயாவலிம் - host of ailments;
Translation
Thus Thou blessed the Gopikaas and continued to roam the woods as before. O Hari! With Thy such cooling compassion, quickly put an end to all my hosts of ailments.
