ஶ்லோக:
கதா³பி ஜன்மர்க்ஷதி³னே தவ ப்ரபோ⁴ நிமந்த்ரிதஜ்ஞாதிவதூ⁴மஹீஸுரா ।
மஹானஸஸ்த்வாம் ஸவிதே⁴ நிதா⁴ய ஸா மஹானஸாதௌ³ வவ்ருதே வ்ரஜேஶ்வரீ ॥1॥
Meaning
கதா³பி ஜன்ம-ருக்ஷ-தி³னே - once, on the birth star day; தவ ப்ரபோ⁴ - of Thee, O Lord!; நிமந்த்ரித- - having invited; ஜ்ஞாதி-வதூ⁴-மஹீஸுரா: - relatives, their wives and Braahmins; மஹா-அனஸ:-த்வாம் ஸவிதே⁴ - a big cart, Thee near it; நிதா⁴ய ஸா - placing, she (Yashodaa); மஹான-ஸாதௌ³ - in the kitchen; வவ்ருதே வ்ரஜேஶ்வரீ - got busy Yashoda;
Translation
O Lord! Once on Thy birth star day, Yashoda, the queen of Vraja, who had invited the relatives and their wives and the Braahmins, for the occasion, placed Thee near a big cart and got busy in the kitchen organising the feast.
ஶ்லோக:
ததோ ப⁴வத்த்ராணனியுக்தபா³லகப்ரபீ⁴திஸங்க்ரந்த³னஸங்குலாரவை: ।
விமிஶ்ரமஶ்ராவி ப⁴வத்ஸமீபத: பரிஸ்பு²டத்³தா³ருசடச்சடாரவ: ॥2॥
Meaning
தத: ப⁴வத்- - then, for Thy; த்ராண-னியுக்த- - to protect appointed; பா³லக-ப்ரபீ⁴தி- - the boys; ஸங்க்ரந்த³ன- - fearfully crying; ஸங்குலா-ரவை: - the confused voices; விமிஶ்ரம்-அஶ்ராவி - which were mingled (with) , were heard; ப⁴வத்-ஸமீபத: - from near Thee; பரிஸ்பு²டத்-தா³ரு- - cracking and breaking of wood; சடத்-சடா-ரவ: - with the crackling sound;
Translation
Then from near Thee, was heard the fearful cries and confused voices of various boys who were appointed to protect Thee, which was mingled with the sound of the crackling and breaking sound of wood.
ஶ்லோக:
ததஸ்ததா³கர்ணனஸம்ப்⁴ரமஶ்ரமப்ரகம்பிவக்ஷோஜப⁴ரா வ்ரஜாங்க³னா: ।
ப⁴வந்தமந்தர்த³த்³ருஶுஸ்ஸமந்ததோ வினிஷ்பதத்³தா³ருணதா³ருமத்⁴யக³ம் ॥3॥
Meaning
தத:-தத்-ஆகர்ணன- - then that hearing; ஸம்ப்⁴ரம-ஶ்ரம- - (with) the fear and the effort; ப்ரகம்பி-வக்ஷோஜ-ப⁴ரா: - heaving with the heavy breasts; வ்ரஜாங்க³னா: - the Gopikas; ப⁴வந்தம்-அந்த:-த³த்³ருஶு:- - Thee saw amongst; ஸம்ந்தத: வினிஷ்பதத்- - all around strewn; தா³ருண-தா³ரு-மத்⁴யக³ம் - big pieces of wood, in the midst lying;
Translation
Then hearing the terrific sound, frightened, the Gopikas came running with their heavy breasts heaving because of the effort and anxiety. They saw Thee lying amongst the frightful big pieces of broken wood strewn all around.
ஶ்லோக:
ஶிஶோரஹோ கிம் கிமபூ⁴தி³தி த்³ருதம் ப்ரதா⁴வ்ய நந்த:³ பஶுபாஶ்ச பூ⁴ஸுரா: ।
ப⁴வந்தமாலோக்ய யஶோத³யா த்⁴ருதம் ஸமாஶ்வஸன்னஶ்ருஜலார்த்³ரலோசனா: ॥4॥
Meaning
ஶிஶோ:-அஹோ - to the child, Alas!; கிம் கிம்-அபூ⁴த்- - what! What has happened; இதி த்³ருதம் ப்ரதா⁴வ்ய - thus (saying),swiftly running; நந்த:³ பஶுபா:-ச - Nanda Gopa, the cowherds; பூ⁴ஸுரா: ப⁴வந்தம்-ஆலோக்ய - and the Braahmins, Thee seeing; யஶோத³யா த்⁴ருதம் - (who was) by Yashoda held; ஸமாஶ்வஸன்- - felt relieved; அஶ்ரு-ஜல-ஆர்த்³ர-லோசனா: - (with) eyes wet with tears (of joy);
Translation
Alas! What! What has happened to the child!' thus crying, Nanda, the Gopas and the assembled Braahmins rushed to the spot. Finding Thee in Yashoda's arms, they felt relieved and shed tears of joy seeing that the child was safe.
ஶ்லோக:
கஸ்கோ நு கௌதஸ்குத ஏஷ விஸ்மயோ விஶங்கடம் யச்ச²கடம் விபாடிதம் ।
ந காரணம் கிஞ்சிதி³ஹேதி தே ஸ்தி²தா: ஸ்வனாஸிகாத³த்தகராஸ்த்வதீ³க்ஷகா: ॥5॥
Meaning
க:-க: நு கௌத:-குத: - what! What, indeed how? Where? (did it happen); ஏஷ விஸ்மய: விஶங்கடம் - this is a wonder, this huge; யத்-ஶகடம் விபாடிதம் - that (this) cart is shattered to pieces; ந காரணம் - no reason; கிஞ்சித்-இஹ-இதி - at all is here, thus; தே ஸ்தி²தா: - they stood; ஸ்வ-னாஸிகா-த³த்த-கரா:- - on their noses placing their hands; த்வத்-ஈக்ஷகா: - at Thee looking;
Translation
What ! What happened and how! This is a wonder! This huge cart is shattered! There seems to be no explanation for this', thus exclaiming, they looked at Thee, awestricken, with their fingers placed on their noses.
ஶ்லோக:
குமாரகஸ்யாஸ்ய பயோத⁴ரார்தி²ன: ப்ரரோத³னே லோலபதா³ம்பு³ஜாஹதம் ।
மயா மயா த்³ருஷ்டமனோ விபர்யகா³தி³தீஶ தே பாலகபா³லகா ஜகு³: ॥6॥
Meaning
குமாரகஸ்ய-அஸ்ய - of this child; பயோத⁴ர-அர்தி²ன: - of being breast fed desirous; ப்ரரோத³னே - while crying; லோல-பத-³அம்பு³ஜ- - by the movement of the lotus like legs; ஆஹதம் - was hit (the cart); மயா மயா த்³ருஷ்டம்- - I saw, I saw; அன: விபர்யகா³த்- - the cart overturned; இதி-ஈஶ - thus O Lord; தே பாலக-பா³லகா: - the children who were guarding Thee; ஜகு³: - said;
Translation
O Lord! The children who were guarding Thee, declared 'This child who was desirous of being breast fed, moved his lotus like legs, and hit the cart which overturned. I saw, even I saw.'
ஶ்லோக:
பி⁴யா ததா³ கிஞ்சிதஜ³ானதாமித³ம் குமாரகாணாமதிது³ர்க⁴டம் வச: ।
ப⁴வத்ப்ரபா⁴வாவிது³ரைரிதீரிதம் மனாகி³வாஶங்க்யத த்³ருஷ்டபூதனை: ॥7॥
Meaning
பி⁴யா ததா³ - out of fright , then; கிஞ்சித்-அஜானதாம்- - anything those who did not know (to them); இத³ம் குமாரகாணாம்- - the children's; அதி-து³ர்க⁴டம் வச: - (this was) a very improbable statement; ப⁴வத்-ப்ரபா⁴வ-அவிது³ரை:- - Thy prowess' those not knowing; இதி-ஈரிதம் மனாக்-இவ- - this statement, a little bit; அஶங்க்யத த்³ருஷ்ட-பூதனை: - was feared (to be true), who had witnessed (the incident of) Pootanaa;
Translation
Then to the people who knew nothing of Thy prowess, the words of the frightened children were entirely baseless. But to those who knew of even a bit of Thy prowess and had witnessed the incident of Pootanaa, could not reject their statement altogether.
ஶ்லோக:
ப்ரவாலதாம்ரம் கிமித³ம் பத³ம் க்ஷதம் ஸரோஜரம்யௌ நு கரௌ விரோஜிதௌ।
இதி ப்ரஸர்பத்கருணாதரங்கி³தாஸ்த்வத³ங்க³மாபஸ்ப்ருஶுரங்க³னாஜனா: ॥8॥
Meaning
ப்ரவால-தாம்ரம் - tender leaves like pink; கிம்-இத³ம் பத³ம் க்ஷதம் - is this (little) foot hurt; ஸரோஜ-ரம்யௌ நு - lotuses like charming indeed; கரௌ விரோஜிதௌ - (these) hands, have (they) been hurt; இதி ப்ரஸர்பத்-கருணா- - thus with overflowing sympathy; தரங்கி³தா:-த்வத்-அங்க³ம்- - moved by (such concern), Thy body; ஆபஸ்ப்ருஶு:-அங்க³னாஜனா: - stroked gently, the women folk;
Translation
Pink like tender leaves, these legs, have they been hurt? These hands, charming like the lotuses, have they been injured?' Thus with overflowing sympathy and moved with such concern, the women folk stroked Thy body gently.
ஶ்லோக:
அயே ஸுதம் தே³ஹி ஜக³த்பதே: க்ருபாதரங்க³பாதாத்பரிபாதமத்³ய மே ।
இதி ஸ்ம ஸங்க்³ருஹ்ய பிதா த்வத³ங்க³கம் முஹுர்முஹு: ஶ்லிஷ்யதி ஜாதகண்டக: ॥9॥
Meaning
அயே ஸுதம் தே³ஹி - O (Yashoda) give (me) my son; ஜக³த்பதே: க்ருபாதரங்க-³பாதாத்- - by the Lord's showers of mercy; பரிபாதம்-அத்³ய மே - (was) saved , today, my son; இதி ஸ்ம ஸங்க்³ருஹ்ய - thus collecting; பிதா த்வத்-அங்க³கம் - (Thy) father , Thy body; முஹு:-முஹு: ஶ்லிஷ்யதி - again and again embraces; ஜாத-கண்டக: - with his body full of horripilation;
Translation
O Yashoda! Give me my son. By the Lord's showers of mercy today my son was saved!' Thus saying and collecting Thee in his arms, Thy father embraced Thee again and again, whose body was full of horripilation.
ஶ்லோக:
அனோனிலீன: கில ஹந்துமாக³த: ஸுராரிரேவம் ப⁴வதா விஹிம்ஸித: ।
ரஜோபி நோ த்³ருஷ்டமமுஷ்ய தத்கத²ம் ஸ ஶுத்³த⁴ஸத்த்வே த்வயி லீனவான் த்⁴ருவம் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
அன:-னிலீன: - as a cart, disguised; கில ஹந்தும்-ஆக³த: - indeed, to kill, had come; ஸுராரி:-ஏவம் - the Asura, was thus; ப⁴வதா விஹிம்ஸித: - by Thee was killed; ரஜ:-அபி ந: த்³ருஷ்டம்-அமுஷ்ய - even a speck of him (of Rajo Guna) was not seen; தத்-கத²ம் ஸ - how can it be that he; ஶுத்³த-⁴ஸத்வே த்வயி - who are pure Sattva, in Thee; லீனவான் த்⁴ருவம் - merged certainly;
Translation
The Asura who had come to kill Thee, disguised as a cart, was destroyed by Thee. But even a trace of his body or evil nature (Rajas) was not seen. How can that be? Certainly, he became pure (by coming in contact with Thee) and merged in Thy pure Sattvic Self.
ஶ்லோக:
ப்ரபூஜிதைஸ்தத்ர ததோ த்³விஜாதிபி⁴ர்விஶேஷதோ லம்பி⁴தமங்க³லாஶிஷ: ।
வ்ரஜம் நிஜைர்பா³ல்யரஸைர்விமோஹயன் மருத்புராதீ⁴ஶ ருஜாம் ஜஹீஹி மே ॥11॥
Meaning
ப்ரபூஜிதை:-தத்ர - well honoured there; தத: த்³விஜாதிபி⁴:- - then by the Braahamins; விஶேஷத: - specially; லம்பி⁴த-மங்க³ல-ஆஶிஷ: - conferred with auspicious blessings; வ்ரஜம் - Gokul; நிஜை:-பா³ல்ய-ரஸை:- - with Thy childish sweet ways; விமோஹயன் - captivating (delighting); மருத்புராதீ⁴ஶ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; ருஜாம் ஜஹீஹி மே - suffering, sheer away, mine;
Translation
The Braahmins who were invited and were well honoured specially conferred their auspicious blessings on Thee. With Thy captivating childish sweet ways, Thou delighted the whole of Vraja. O Lord of Guruvaayur! May Thou sheer away my sufferings.
